I always love the conversations with the owners at this festival, every car has a story !! Will you be showing the RUclipsr's chat that you guys did on stage ?
I'm all the way out in Australia but I really hope I can find a way to visit the Festival in my lifetime. In the meantime these videos will have to do. Thanks for doing another big video this year!
I had no idea it was you I spoke with! Sorry for being so busy with cleaning the car, I was quite furious (pun intended) about the rain spots from the night before. I would've loved to have had a longer chat with you! Maybe we'll meet again next year ❤
Thank you so much for the brilliant video. I couldn't make the show this year, but have been in the past, so it was great to watch such a fabulous and comprehensive film of this years event.
The true car lover, gets excited when sees cars like that, more than the latest Lambo or Ferrari (personal opinion, don't want to judge the passion anyone has). I see cars vanished from the roads or rarities like the beautiful 166 V6 Nuvola. Great video, always a pleasure to be "with you" at the Fotu
I’m from America and finding a nice GM “Dust Buster” van is very rare. I can imagine that’s possibly the only Oldsmobile Silhouette in the UK! This looks like such a great show!
27:18 Yes it was that one, K353 UKK one year ago, so great to see it again with all the restoration work that has gone into it over the past year as well, replacement alternator without broken bearings which caused the whining noise in the video, new LS spec wheel trims, phase one boot button surround (sticker rather than indented silver Vauxhall logo), phase one gear knob, replacement dash from a Vauxhall Tigra because heated seats as it turns out was not an option unfortunatly even though it seemed like it, the buttons did nothing, and a new replacement bonnet from a satin red phase 2 from 1999 as the original bonnet was full of stone chips and didn't look good at all.
Looks like a great turn out! That Uno you skipped past, being a 1.4 SX i.e., with only 3 remaining on the road, is rarer than the Turbo! (& that Nascar ducted roof on the Tempra SW was completely standard, they all have that feature!). Shame Jim didn't take his Panda. Would have loved to have seen the Alfa 6, I`ve not seen one in 35 years!
16:16 'Belmont' in this case is the name of the supplying dealer, part of the John Martin Group that was once dominant in the East Central Scotland area.
It was my first trip...was amazed how many cars were there. And so many I hadn't seen for 30 years. Glad to see a tiny glimpse in the background of my blue rover 25 😂
You've done all the jobs I hate doing. Your attention to detail and perseverance is beyond me. It will make a Rover enthusiast very happy when you eventually sell it.👍
No way! I saw the couple from Netherlands in much wenlock (Shropshire) I was behind them at a junction and thought to myself that's very brave driving that far, but then noticed it a Subaru was in nice condition 👌👍
That was us alright! We had an 8 day holiday in Shropshire before heading to FOTU, racked up a little over 1000 faultless miles total in the little Subaru 😊
Watching the second half of the video now! Here's a bunch of comments mashed together. Ah, I love a Hilux Surf! And that P100 is swish too! I'd never heard of a Carib either, but the Sprinter nameplate i suppose is a hint as it's related to the Corolla, and looking it up, we did get some them on our shores under the Corolla and Tercel names. Certainly the generation prior to that example would be recognisable, but the one you saw is a version unique to Japan. I love to see a JDM all-wheel-drive wagon! Love love LOVE the aubergine interior in the Rover 75 sedan! And that wagon is gorgeous too. Reminds me a lot of my 2003 Outback H6, in terms of the modern comfort and granddad's car factor. Great Video Matt and there was so much to see and also met many great people too! Thank you for the channel mention and great to catch up with you. Nice to see my friend Erickson in the video. That drive from Portugal was really worth it!
It’s an Audi A2. Not an A1. I run a diesel variant for my everyday car - it’s inherently suitable for the job being capable of up to 70mpg on long journeys and tax is £35.
Maybe i don’t understand correctly because im from greece but what kind of meet is this? Future classics or preserved old cars? Im asking because here in greece a bit rough sape cars like these can be found really really cheap. An A2 is about 3.500€ a Punto can be found from 500€ to 6k max and we also have a bucnh of Astras, Fiestas etc. Basically i see them all day on the road. We even sell an Integra Type R for 11.000€
These cars are typically very low specification, no electric windows etc. They are 20+ years old for the show and by this point are uncommon and rare on the roads in the UK. With our weather and use of salt on the roads in winter, it can be a tough life and rust finishes most - so always impressive to see survivors.
@@BrooksterMax for me its the same also because they are not many in good condition but there are examples that if you put some money in them they can be like that in the video. This event is going to be now like the goodwood? Or no?
At 1:03:50 there was one of those Convertible Fiat Stradas street parked in my home town Ipswich, until it was completely destroyed by a van in its parking space.
I've been to my fair share of classic cars shows over the years, but this one was the best - it was my first visit to Festival Of The Unexceptional but i'll be back next year. If i had to pick a 'car of the show' i would probably plump for the Orange Granada GL Coupe......absolutely stunning, but i enjoyed all the cars.
Thank you so much for this video, I’m so sad that I didn’t get to go, I must go next year. I’m happy to see the Daihatsu Applause get some love, such a lovely little car. The man with that Strada Convertible does not need to fill and paint that door ding, a good PDR guy can remove that dent so that you won’t see it and keep the paint original.
The light blue Volvo 144 and Maestro next to it are the scottish contingent, been lucky to have behind the Maestro on a drive at local meet near to Edinburgh. Nice to see Ade making the trip from Scotland in the Chrysler. Nice to see Ms Crabtree at the show as well. Remember 2024 is the year of the Streetwise. The first Alfa 145 in the UK and its edinburgh registered. The Rav4 belongs to a friend i met at the Practical Classics Show in March, he owns the green Mark 5 Escort Si Estate that was at the practical classics show the year before. I think the Skoda Favorit estate was Lily Crabtree's as its parked next to Sarah's Mazda 121 based on the mark 4 fiesta. A brilliant show report Matt, i really need to get down next year if i can find something unexceptional!
Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that black-plate Espero (I'm into black plates) and Motobieda (Motopoverty to be more accurate) who I've been watching 4-5 years ago
Didn't know this was a thing, to me this is 100x more interesting than lambo's or porsches, cars that used to be ordinary but are now exceptionally rare, in good and original condition! This is where my heart's at, if I were rich I'd have a garage full of things like these instead of a few rolls royces and ferraris
36:05. The Toyota where sold in the UK as the Toyota Corolla Wagon. A freind of he family had one. All i remember about it is the interior being very dull.
I've absolutely loved watching all the coverage of this and I think i have to try and get a ticket next year. Weird Car Twitter royalty at its finest. That little yellow Mazda 121 was a cracker
As someone who worked from 09 to 05 for as a metrology technician for a Rover foundry it's nice to see Montegos and maestro's . With my job I use to drive them regularly round the plant or to our sister foundry they were really abused from new with Foundry tooling. I once went on a training course at East Midlands airport. Personnel told me.i would have to take 1 of the cars. I was told check car over it was at the time probably 3 years old an M reg 2.0 diesel the car had been running around the foundry with no oil etc. Due to Rovers not having the best of reliability even with offers of upto 50% off not many bought any other than 75s and MG ZTs. No company cars other than the odd 1 was Rover. The Delorean is Rare it's 1 of 38 RHD factory built cars near the end. Strangely the ex Delorean factory is now an Automotive foundry.
Don’t be fooled by the small taillights, the Mini at 56:22 is a Mk III (or later Mk) as evidenced by the internal hinged doors, and the taller rear side windows that started with the Mk III. Somebody has fitted Mk I taillights to it. It looks great too!
I’d almost forgotten the Daihatusu Applause! But then I remembered looking at one when they were first launched. My dads mate always liked his even more forgotten Daihatsu Charmant but didn’t think the Applause was a suitable replacement.
It was only after our discussion about Bertie, my wife's Punto Cabrio that I realised it was you! He was a bit dwarfed by the Tatra next to him. Unlike some shows it was difficult to find owners as they were all off looking at the other cars. I did find yours.
until about a decade ago a guy on our street drove an Applause. He then had a Corsa B and now has 51 Plate Focus Ghia saloon. Really annoying thing about him is he buys them because he is tight and so can maintain them himself then when he gets bored he has them crushed. He won't sell on and is immune to pleas from enthusiasts to sell to them for more money than the scrap guy would give him. Mental - possibly on more than one level.
Had three Audi A2 over the last few year, never thought they were rare until I went to buy one and there were about 30 decent ones in the whole of the UK for sale.
Yep, you and I both definitely would run past a Porsche Boxster to see the Oldsmobile Silhouette. 😅😅 I yelled out loud once it came on screen. Don't see one of those every day.
I'm surprised at the W-reg Renault 12 - the 18 was built on the same floorpan and came out two years earlier - or was this one registered via some shenanigans? My father bought a new Renault 16 in '72 in Germany and brought it into the UK in '74, but it was still given an M-reg plate rather than K-reg. I always assumed it was just some hangover loophole from the UK having not yet joined the Common Market in '72.
Very good show. Not sure why the RS2000 showed up. Cars need to be spaced oit a bit more I envisage a few door dinged car doors...... And when was the last time you saw a Xantia on the road!
If there are loads of wasps at a public event, there could be a nest somewhere nearby, and the disturbance of car engines might be disturbing them and people holding sweet drinks attracting them. They don't gather round people for nothing and and in the height of summer they do make a beeline for people food and drinks.
I would have liked a bit on that silver Honda Accord i had one in the late 80s i part exed a mk2 escort. It was so much better that any ford of the day, the driving experience was amazing, ( relative to its competitors at the time)
Lovely selection of Fiat's, not one cinq or panda though 😭 I do like other cars and the mighty dacia is a great survivor. I don't usually watch hour long videos but this one was addictive 🤗👍🇮🇪 Well done Matt.
Due to the crazy queue to enter (over 1 hour) I missed you, and HubNut at the 10.30 stage session. My Alfa 156 broke down near the castle with a gear linkage fault, fixed in 30 seconds by the RAC patrol later in the afternoon. Great show but they need to sort out the access arrangements or I won't be going again.
Great to see all these cars I remember. Just as (constructive) feedback - try shooting at 60 frames per second and ‘walking footage’ is less prone to the motion sickness feeling..
Have only seen one at cars and coffee in dundalk (Ireland) a few times, quite rare. My first car was a ritmo/strada and my god would you want to be handy at tinkering 😂 as it needed plenty
Need to go to FOTU next year, look amazing. Such a line up of unexceptional vehicles. I’ll be taking my MK1 Citroën C5 which is base LX spec. A truly unexceptional car…not. 😎
hmmm. what would the general consensus being of a mk2 (2005) ford focus. 2.0 titanium spec 3 door. super common car, but only 343 registered on the road (of the type FOCUS TITANIUM, which doesnt take into account of body type and engine size) or how about something VERY rare: a 2009 Ford Focus CC3 2.0 automatic, 1 of only 148 registered on the road today
Nice spread of cars. Was the Mark III Vauxhall Cavalier that good of a car? I can guess the Mark II Cavalier would have been sort of rubbish based on my driving of the USA versions (Chevy Cavalier, Pontiac J2000/Sunbird, Buick Skyhawk, Oldsmobile Firenza and Cadillac Cimarron) Though I will admit that the 1988-1994 Chevy Cavalier Z24 with the manual trans was fun to drive and that I liked and still like the Cadillac Cimarron not only because GM had the audacity to tart up a Chevy Cavalier to turn it into a Cadillac but that they kept making them so long (7 model years). The thing about that oldsmobile van (called U van due to the platform name) or dustbuster van (named after a popular portable 1980's vacuum cleaner made by Black & Decker) was that you could have a 7 course meal on that dash. I had a 1997 (second generation) U Van which looked more conventional. That owner must be shelling out a lot of money on gas as these were not exactly fuel sippers. (Mine was a gas pig but as i value comfort more then gas costs, i was not bothered by it). I still think the Rover SD1 is one of the best looking cars made by the UK.
Mk2 was very good, one of the best in class when it was new. Vauxhall/Opel models were built in europe and (not to knock US cars) its often the case that Euro versions have better quality interior plastics and fit and finish, and 90% would have been manual - 1980s autos with a 4 cylinder are never a treat to drive!
One of my workmates has a 1.8 cavalier. It's unexceptional and boring but it's comfortable.. They were designed to be driven up and down motorways, by people in suits, who weren't high up enough in the company to get a BMW. They felt a lot more modern than a Sierra.. The SRI was quick enough and I think still looked modern when they replaced the Cavalier with the Vectra. Any 'redtop' 2.0 engined Vauxhall was pretty cool.. They did rot though. It was rare to see one without rusty wings/arches/around the windows/sunroof when they were still popular.
Id actually say that some of these cars are pretty decent, fantastic in fact, too many to mention, the xantia, laguna, mk1 punto, bravo and 1 or 2 others are decent
100% right about the colours. When you see a 70s/80s/90s classic nowadays they stand out so much. I miss pale blue Ford Escorts!
Not the ones with white doors I don't... 🤣 "Did you ever have a ride in a light blue car?" as Adam and the Ants sang....
Marvellous! Such variety. That these were sufficient for motoring needs not that long ago makes a joke of what modern cars have become.
I always love the conversations with the owners at this festival, every car has a story !!

41:21 - now, that was kinda unexpected. Mid-90's Moskvich 2141 or 21412 (aka Aleko) with no rust issues. Very few are left even in Russia.
That Jumbuck was actually a Skoda Fun. The cab bulkhead slip back into the loadbed to reveal 2 open air jump seats - the Jumbuck was a Proton
Such a great show, and made even better by getting to meet yourself, Ian Seabrook, Joseph Lloyd, Danny Hopkins, and Jon Bentley! 😃

Thank you for showing me around as I didn’t get there this year… always love your videos
Great video, and it was lovely to meet you and chat for a bit!
Absolutely mega day and great to see the Punto in person. I'm sure you are aware but all your videos are only loading upto 720p, Matt.
I am now, the last 4 have so Ive been talking to Google help this afternoon
@@furiousdriving - fingers crossed they fix it for you 🤞
Lovely to see a Daf 33 in the show as i served my time on Daf's.
Wonderful presentation, thanks.
I ❤ Adore All of These Old Cars / Vans / Trucks you name it
Given that Grimsthorpe Castle is quite local, I really ought to make the effort to go here. Not sure I'd call a DeLorean 'unexceptional' though.
The strada convertible was magnificent, never seen one in the wild.
Have only seen one at cars and coffee in dundalk (Ireland) a few times, quite rare. My first car was a ritmo/strada and my god would you want to be handy at tinkering 😂 as it needed plenty

The Daihatsu Applause deserves a round of applause for winning!
Need to go to FOTU next year, look amazing. Such a line up of unexceptional vehicles. I’ll be taking my MK1 Citroën C5 which is base LX spec. A truly unexceptional car…not. 😎
1:10:00 Looks like it's running MkII Capri rear springs.
hmmm. what would the general consensus being of a mk2 (2005) ford focus. 2.0 titanium spec 3 door. super common car, but only 343 registered on the road (of the type FOCUS TITANIUM, which doesnt take into account of body type and engine size)
or how about something VERY rare: a 2009 Ford Focus CC3 2.0 automatic, 1 of only 148 registered on the road today
A little new still, in a year or 2, although it’s a bit posh!
54:00 that's a polish youtuber MOTOBIEDA
Love the couple of BX's at the beginning.
brill vid Matt , sooo much there to see. of many years. and different cars too
Nice spread of cars.
I love the Punto
Great event and was fun to meet you in person
Oh the bloody wasps!
@30:20 she went blind so they put her in storage 😅 i mean, the car, not the old lady 😅😂
That Punto is probably the rarest car there now LOL
Id actually say that some of these cars are pretty decent, fantastic in fact, too many to mention, the xantia, laguna, mk1 punto, bravo and 1 or 2 others are decent
Great effort, thanks for posting Matt 😊👍
Capri 2.8 injection always steals the show
