Hi Joseph , very good to see the Suzuki Baleno , I had one 20 years ago now it was like that one , mine was 1998 4Dr GLX-SE in leaf green special edition . I Loved that car very much .
That's really strange. I thought it sounded like a two stroke. But clearly I was wrong, hence why we call these Slightly Shambolic Shuffles and apologise for all the mistakes that will inevitably happen at the beginning of each video. What is the difference between the Volkswagen and Wartburg engines?
VW got involved in the 80s to develop the 4 stroke car. From what I understand the original 1272cc Polo engine was to be built under licence with associated costs. Wartburg redesigned the engine with minor differences so it was no longer the same engine although very similar. This meant no licence fee to pay as it was now no longer the same.. as I say that's my understanding of it.
Nice to see a Cortina S. I was given one of these for free in 1992. It was awful, it used to be silver but all the lacquer had gone so it was grey. It had a vinyl roof but by the time it got to me the majority of it had escaped leaving surface rust before people used to like that sort of rat look. The spotlights were nothing more than rusty bowls and the interior had disgusting furry seat covers that I removed and refitted such was the diabolical state of the seats underneath. I had it for a handful of weeks before it got nicked, but the police recovered it. They called me to tell me I could collect it and so I jumped on the bus excited to get my future FOTU exhibit back. In hindsight I should have suspected all was not well at the amount of grinning coppers that were watching as I was led to it. They had found it in the sea, it was full of sand and litter, stank to high heaven and it’s windscreen was smashed and the back window had popped out and was placed on the back seat. Surrounded by sniggering Plod I told them they could keep it and went back home on the bus. I replaced it with another car in the concours ring, the desperado spec Metro for £110. Beat the seller down from £300 👍
Great commentary and walk around. Thank you for uploading. I’m the Corsa B owner and the last time you saw it was at Gilks Cafe. You were right to think that was probably the correct wheel trims. I finally found them - took a year! All the missing features from the Furious video to be authentic phase 1 LS are finally there. Such a great day out. Look forward to watching your other parts!
Well, Parts Two and Three are live on the channel now! I remember the Corsa very well, as I think I had uploaded the video of the Corsa Merit I drove last year just before Mr Richardson drove it, and I did also enjoy the event at Gilks' Garage (as always when I am there).
Welcome from Slovenia Sir. Exceptional selection of unexceptional cars Sir. My picks are, Sions’s base Metro & the Mk2 Astra Merit estate, both perfect for FOTU. Apparently Dad drove mum & I, home from the maternity hospital in his brand new Red Daf 33
Sir, we will find out who won in the final part... I liked the Mitsubishi Galant, Mr Bushby's Punto and the Baleno the best, but of course others may disagree... That DAF was pretty amazing.
23:48 Fiesta Popular Plus E603 BAL. I drove the next plate up E604 BAL, it was a Transit van and it was thrashed to within an inch of its life. It certainly would not have made the Concorse area.
Great video, Sir. This was a fantastic event and I will definitely be back next year. Just a note, that Peugeot 505 that belongs to Paul Cowland, is actually from Portugal, which has the P country identity. Poland is PL
Excellent presentation Joseph, some excellent vehicles in the Concourse! The Justy and Galant are my two favourites; the Galant is a five door which did not make it into the US, and I drove a Justy with a CVT well over thirty years ago. I cannot remember if the Justy was a 4WD, I do know they imported Justy 4WD.
Yes sir, the Galant is actually owned by one of my viewers! That and the Baleno were my favourites, although Mr Bushby's Punto is very nice. The Justys were sold all around the world, and they did have a 4WD one in America.
Splendid! It's funny how a car's colour and finish can affect my opinion: I usually don't like Ford's but the maroon Ford Fiesta (Meridian) at 16:39 looked "pretty" and somehow elegant. I felt a bit down when I saw the Rover 214i at 18:40. I bought a Rover 214 in 1995 but someone purloined it before I even drove it 😓. The one in the video looks good in that green colour. The Austin A35 van at the end has a British charm that suits Wallace and Gromit perfectly.
Good to see Last year's and local to me Sam and his Astra Merit. Nice to see a K11 Micra In the Concours area, going to hazard a guess maybe a L trim level. Love the comaraderie between you and Mr Richardson. I think the alloys on the blue K11 Micra as you say are a optional extra. My dad had a mark 2 fiesta Popular Plus so the poverty spec dash brings back many memories. There's my favourite car there the mark 6 Escort Mexico only thing that bugs me is the wheel trims are not the correct ones to the car but I can forgive it for that. The Swindon built Civic is very familiar either I know the car or the registration is very similar to one thst used to be in my area. A very enjoyable shuffle Sir, looking forward to part 2 already.
Sir, two poverty specification dash Fiestas and the ridiculous base Metro were quite something. The Mexico did look a bit wrong with those wheel trims, but never mind! The Swindon Civic is indeed familiar to you, it lived in Edinburgh for a long time. Mr Richardson and I do like to have a laugh and a joke at these events...
Interesting fact about the Skoda Estelle's engine. Never realised that same engine was used in both the rear engined and front engined models over 4 decades. What a fine collection of cars here. Nice to see the Proton Black Knight once again. Loved the Cavalier GLS, Fiat 128 and the Rover 213. I really wanted to come along to this event but I thought that my property purchase might scupper any plans. Hopefully next year (if I have any money left)!
Yes sir, there was a massive queue to get in, but we made it. The Cavalier was amazing, there were some other Mark Is around too. That Skoda OHV engine lasted for a really, really long time, and was noisy, but dependable.
Part 1 already, record uploading, Brilliant! Sadly I couldn't go this year but my brother brought along one of our cars, a 1989 Toyota Camry, hoping you caught it on camera....
Sir, we saw a couple of Camrys, but they will be appearing much later on in the video. Hopefully all these parts will satisfy your need to catch up on what you have missed!
@@lloydvehicleconsulting it did feel rather surreal driving down that road in the middle of the showground, with hundreds of classics on both sides, lol!
Ever since a neighbour owned a Wartburg Knight for many years in the 80s I have loved the shape. I used to get to school in a 1978 Chrysler Alpine 1300 GL and I regularly drove a well worn 1981 Talbot Solara 1300 and I can assure you that they are comfortable, reliable and economical. They also hang on pretty well in the corners. The Corsa B still looks like a very cute little car 30 years later. The Mk4 Cortina 2000 S is a forgotten performance saloon that was very quick indeed. The Mk4 Ford Escort was a big step up in quality and a far better drive than the Mk3. The Orion Mk2 in particular is a great car. Check out Mr Richardson's Mk2 Orion review. Such a shame that Fiat 128s all rusted away because they drove very well and on a shoestring too. If you have not driven a Citroën Xsara you really should and be very surprised Sir.
Sir, we have absolutely driven a Xsara on No Budget Reviews. You may remember the video from last October. We would very much like to try Talbot Solara or Alpine at some point too!
I'll have to try and get to this event at some point, these cars are so much more fascinating compared to the endless new variants of Ferrari and Lamborghini.
Some of these Concours D'Extrordinaire Cars are far too decadent for the title sir! I would suggest if they dont wreak of abject poverty or rarity like the Applause they shouldn't be allowed in!!!
@@lloydvehicleconsulting absolutely, just an opinion from a viewer and I may have already heard from a certain Welsh based channel short but I shall no doubt enjoy the remaining parts

Sir, we would very much like to have a go in one of these early Balenos! This one was highly exciting....
Hi, I was in the Wartburg in front of you. Its a later 4 stroke version with a VW derived 1.3 engine, similar to the Polo but not a Polo engine.
That's really strange. I thought it sounded like a two stroke. But clearly I was wrong, hence why we call these Slightly Shambolic Shuffles and apologise for all the mistakes that will inevitably happen at the beginning of each video. @@lloydvehicleconsulting the sound from the pair of 2 strokes in front of me would have been easy to hear.. the 4 stroke is very quiet in comparison.
