    My RC 3.5” lift arrived a couple of days ago and I’ll be installing it soon, but I also ordered a spacer kit to lower the carrier bearing just a smidge and most importantly an axel bushing for the drivers side to replace the needle bearing. Your full droop bind is most likely caused by the shorter axel and the “known weak” needle bearing. East coast gear and supply has the remedy. They claim a life of half a million miles. I’m gonna find out. Anyway thanks for the video and I hope your boxes that extend your Jack stands have some ribs installed internally.

      thanks for the comment and good luck on your install. I do plan on replacing the bearing in the T case when i regear in which i hope will be soon. The jack stand extenders are 4x6 solid blocks that are wrapped . i hope to get taller real jack stands or a lift. One day.

    I like kelly tires and get load range E for suv's and trucks. Do not get copper tires. I get fatter tires for lighter vehicles and skinny tires on the heavy wagoneer. The xj is light and floats the wagoneer sinks. I am in the snow, slush, ice, and spring melt mud. I don't like big gaps in tread on tires. Big gaps seem to pick up more road hazards in them like screws and sharp rocks. The wife got a screw in the side wall of new kelly tires. I plugged it and was a couple months before we got a new tire on it. The plug held even in the side wall. My old red zj jeep ate a set of coppers in one year.

      Thanks for responding. I knew I could count on you. :) Definitely E rating. So no Coopers. Was it just the wear speed on them? I am sure you saw in the video that it is January and it was in the 70s, not much snow down here but I do see myself in some mud.
      So coopers are still on the list but just dropped a lot of spots.

    The 3rd gen. Tacoma come from the factory with approximately 1" over the 2nd gen. you added 3.5" that is too much lift for the stock suspension. Watch your inner CV boots if you see any signs of the fins making contact you can start planning on replacing boots in a few months. It's amazing that RC makes a 3.5" lift, it's almost like their designer have no clue about these IFS suspension.
    Great video! Good luck with your wheels and tire selection. Drive it like you stole it!

      Thanks BT. I am happy with it so far and Yes I have been keeping an eye out for the boot failure. I have some on order already. :) With any mod like this, you create a domino affect. After the lift and some 285s. Re-Gear just went a lot higher on the list as well as stronger steering. But the list is long and will take them one by one. Keep tuning in for the first boot change. :) Thanks again.

      @@5LakesGarage before you re-gear try the pedal commander or a Tune. These trucks have more than enough power to move 33” tires no problem. I’m not sure what you are referring to about the steering? Have you had your alignment done? 285’s are barely larger than the stock tires, these trucks are more than capable of handling the size increase. Good luck!

    • @5LakesGarage

      Since I have a manual, it would be better to have some low end Torque. Which the Tacoma is lacking. If you have an Auto then the can get into the power better with a high torque converter. I have the OVtune on it right now. it helped a lot. I want to look at the pedal monster from banks. Will see which one I go with. The steering would be around that the stock tires were only around 41 lbs and the 285 that I went with are about 15 lbs heavier. I can feel it in the wheel. it should be fine but I like upgrades. :) Marlen Crawler has a kit that has a larger rack and tie rod ends. I still have to investigate more and also see what it can do off road. One day I will get out there.

      Nice. I went with the Duratrac. I like the aggressive look but I get a bit nervous in the wet. When I get new tires down the line I might get larger wheels as well. For two reasons. Less sidewall deflection and maybe I can put larger brakes. Since putting the on the lift and tires I feel that the brakes could use an upgrade. Just keep pushing that snowball down hill. :)

    Awesome vid, wish you made this before I put mine on. So far I like the setup way more than when I had spacers and blocks. Definitely feels more comfortable than the stiffness you get up front with spacers. I had small vibration from 19 to 22mph, put on carrier bearing drop but didn't help at all. I just went back and checked all the torque on the bolts after doing research for the right specs. So I guess toyotas spec for the u- bolts were around 35 ftlb but rough country's recommended 75 to 90ftlb, I chose 85 and no more vibes! It was the only thing that bugged me when I got to those speeds. I am still running on stock wheels/tires and took it to prairie city in California, couldn't do the extreme obstacles yet but it did great. Lol. Looking forward to your new tire selection as I myself don't know which ones to pick. I want 35s but that needs more work done. 33s would work but not as beefy as I'd like. SMH. Hope to see your new setup and updates on upgrades.

      I went with the same lift in the rear mostly due to loading the rear with gear and towing. The leveling does look better if you do not plan on putting a lot of weight in the rear. My leafs do squeak a bit. A lot of people say that the RC lift is worse then OEM. I say Na Na. I really did not like the stock setup. I still rock the 3.5" lift on 285s. Good Day Noah, I have not addressed the full droop bind yet. It only happens when it is stretched out. Since I would be doing some east coast wheeling with slower crawling trails, I do not have a problem wheeling it right now. If I was out in the West Coast jumping dunes then I would put on a limiting strap or change the CV axle with a high angle one. I am coming up to the 500 mile check. I recently installed the same lift kit and it's great other then one of the ball joint boots having a small pinhole leak which annoying but it's sits good.... I got it aligned and feel like I installed everything correctly. Mid 60s on the highway my steering wheel shake very minimally. nothing crazy, certainly no death wobble. What do u think Is causing it? Do u think maybe one of my wheels are unbalanced? The ride feels great other than that. I retighten everything after 50 so idk. Did u experience this?

    • @5LakesGarage

      The only thing that seems to mess with my ride was running spacers. Any unbalancing in the wheels you will feel it more since the wheels are out on a longer pivot. I am sure I will get some off set rims one day. Are you running spacers?
      Now the place where I got my alignment said that they could not align it due to the spacers. I had to take them off. One thing you can do is take it back to the shop and ask them to re-check the alignment. Most shops will not charge for a check.
      Other then the rear leafs squeak a lot, I love the way it rides. Way better then stock.

      That's got me all messed up lol. Wow um. I have never had to torque anything so like is there any other way of telling me. Like I just need to now. Specs for U Bolts and upper control ARMS that's it

      To be honest. I just did a muscle torque on everything. I only went back to torque the u bolts after you sent the first comment. :) They did not move much. But to help you out. This is what I am seeing from the part of the instructions that I missed the first time. You might want to double check me.
      Ubolts
      130 ftlbs
      upper control arms (if you can get a torque wrench on there.)
      95 ftlb
      Leaf spring bolts
      135 ftlb

      @@5LakesGarage how does the new suspension handle towing a trailer? I just installed the same kit on my tacoma and haven’t had the chance to tow with it yet.

    • @5LakesGarage
      @5LakesGarage  2 года назад

      For the heavy stuff, A tune is a must. With larger tires and not re-gearing, it needs more power. As far as the suspension. I had to adjust a few things.
      1. I put extra tire pressure in the rear. I am running 285/75 r16 and they have a large side wall now and it will have more deflection.
      2. This one depends on your trailer. I tried a few drop hitches and ended up with an adjustable hitch. I really prefer to have a level trailer when I tow.
      I towed a few weeks ago with an enclosed single axle for the scouts. It was only for about 2 hours one way with combination of high and backroads. The stiffer rear leafs helped a lot. The stock setup like to bounce.
      Hope this helps.

      I just put some 285/75 yesterday. So far we are good to go but I need to flex it out to see. I still may have to be the body chop. And I get to play with my new toy some more. :)

      @@5LakesGarage so how does it ride with the new lift kit

    • @5LakesGarage
      @5LakesGarage  2 года назад

      I would have to say so far I like a lot better then stock. I kept hitting the bump stops and it seemed to bounce all over the place. I put some Duratrax on it and compared to the pro comps I have on my CJ. it was Night and day on in the snow. Really please so far. I might look into removing the spacers and getting some off set rims. Will see. For now we have bumpers to build out. :)

    My Bolt on upper control arm is backward

    • @5LakesGarage
      @5LakesGarage  2 года назад

      Are you able to get it out. don't remember looking in that direction to see what would be in the way. If you can't get it out, it might be easier to order another one and cut the old one out. I think Toyota slipped up a bit when they designed these trucks. The frame was designed and built in one location, the engine was something they had sitting around and the body was designed in another. And nobody talked to each other. Let us know how it turns out.

      @@5LakesGarage ok thank you I eventually got it out bent the hell out the inner fender wall. And when i Installed new upper control arm I put bolt back on backwards. so if I have to remove again it will be easier. This video really made installation easy. That was pretty much the most difficult step.

  • @batbawls
    @batbawls 2 года назад +1

    I guess in their infinite genius Toyota expects us to remove the quarter panel to replace a UCA? Could cut the bolt to remove it, but then you'd still have a problem re-inserting the new one in the OEM orientation. Crazy

    • @5LakesGarage
      @5LakesGarage  2 года назад

      That was the only real issues I had with doing the install. once you bend the Sheetmetal out enough the bolt came out and was put back in again. but there are some wiring behind it so be careful. There are a few "WTF" moments with this truck. like AC drain line running on top of the frame.
