Back when I was first buying my Taco I originally went to a Toyota dealership in VA Beach. I had basically closed on a 2019 Off Road when they told me the rack and pinion was cracked. They offered to fix it and said it would be ready by that Tuesday. Tuesday rolls around and they tell me it’s gonna be Friday now. Friday turns into Monday. I walked away from the deal and found a 2018 Off Road in pristine condition the next day at a Chevy Dealership.

2014 FJ Cruiser with 33s and heavy bumpers would 4.56 work? For FJs 4.88 seems weak...Your recommendations?

Years ago, I used to own a complete stock 1990 Toyota 4Runner, V-6, 4 speed automatic, 32” tires. This series of 4runners came factory with 4.88 gear ratios. The manual ones came with 4.56’s

What was your mpg before and after the gear upgrade?

I would always recommend going one size more than what is recommended to get back to a factory setting i put 488s in my jeep when 456 was what was recommended and it totally improved performance especially on the highway but seemed to have more power at every rpm

What are the costs to do this and do you have a link for a 2013 tundra?

I know this response is way after the fact. But I was quoted 3000 some odd dollars on a 5.29 regear.

Over 3 grand to regear, I let go of the brake and mine rolls. If the gas mileage is not going to save 3 grand why bother.

It's expensive. Definitely something to think over. Its not a Prinsu rack, tires or wheels. This is one of if not the most expesive mods on a Tacoma except for a supercharger on a 2nd gen. Is it overpriced? Who knows. Havent called around.

It's not about saving mpg, it's about driveability. With all that weight he's carrying his truck with search for gears like crazy on the highway and even moreso going up hill. Saving some MPG is a side benefit.

@@chrisginoc I got ovtune on my trunk and It's okay. Right now I'm running 1.05 Gear lock octane 87. 6th gear is still completely unless especially going uphill. High speed still feels like stock but I do gotta say it does hold 5th gear a little longer where before it would automatically downshift to 4th gear. But while holding on to 5th gear you're gonna lose speed on a small hill and throttle respond sucks at high speed I would really have to gas it to get it moving and when it does move rpm will jump to almost 5500. Cruse control feel the same. Under 60mph is great! I did tried 91 octane on a full tank and it does feels alot better but gas was too expensive so I switched back. I'm plan on regearing someday to see the difference

one of those kinda jobs where it pays to pay and have the right people do it.
I'm no slouch and mechanically inclined, I've got a good garage shop with plenty of tools, but Engines, Transmissions, and diffs are the places I don't go because I just don't want to deal with the stress of oversights or not compensating correctly on the more expensive internals.
