Very nice to see the endless mods for the 3rd Gen Tacoma. I am looking to purchase a 2023 TRD Sport or the off road model in the next two weeks. Thanks for sharing.
I installed a k & n drop in filter and it improved throttle response. This engine air starved especially at lower RPM. The Atkinson cycle engine shortens the intake cycle at lower speeds. Any intake improvement will help. A TRD intake accelerator And k & n intake tube may help as well. These mods are considerably cheaper than a cold air intake. The stock air box is a cold air intake. These mods will open the intake and eliminate the air resonance box. I like the Borla cat back system

Great video!! I just added the Rough Country 6 inch suspension Vertex coil over lift and 35's on my 2018 TRD Sport. What a difference the stance has, especially up here in Fairbanks Alaska where stock trucks are gobbled up in the snow and/or muskeg.
So I just bought a 21 Tacoma off road 4x4 access cab. My previous Tacoma was a ‘10, then a ‘15, then a ‘19, now this one. I’ve always had to have a seat pad to address the seating position and in my ‘19, i jacked the rear of the seat with a 2” steel square tube and seat jackers for the front. The power seat in the ‘21 fixed the seating position issue 100%. I also want to put a lift on it and after going to the motoroso site, I was unable to find the mentioned Skyjacker kit.

Dynamic tests have shown "cold air intakes" often provide no boost in power and often result in less power. Everything is computerized and tuned for factory equipment. Some systems on some vehicles provide a few more horse power.
I 100% need to get the custom tune mapping. I live in a mountainous area and the shifting points do the opposite of what you want. downshifts two gears and redlines just for a tiny bit of accelration. Then will shift to a lower gear way before it ever gets into powerband, so you apply for gas and it downshifts again TWO gears to redline. What in the HELL were they thinking? My 2000 F-150 V6 manual is a dream to drive in comparision, which is extremely depressing.
The truck comes from the factory with a cold air intake.. it pulls from the passenger wheel well.. just get the K&N if you're looking for that lol it'll be a lot cheaper. Snorkel I recommend dobinson 4x4 mine was 300 bucks.
Negative. The cold air intake replaces all the piping from filter to throttle body. Stock plastic has massive resonators, and the intake eliminates all of that and also eliminates turbulent airflow.
5:23, please don't suggest 20" wheels. You should not encourage those types of people to be driving Tacomas. Save that for for GM, Chrysler and Dodge products.

My pedal commander will sometimes cause malfunction reads on the dash, why is that? I'll have to unplug it from the pedal ports and let it reset and plug it in again?
I haven’t heard of that happening before. Could possibly be a bent pin in the plug? Or maybe not being seated fully and locked? I recommend calling pedal commanders support line to ask this question.
Ozzie, you’re correct. I switched to 4.88’s, wish I would have gone 5.29’s though. It holds top gear on the hwy much better. Gears would be first on my list even w/o bigger tires. I don’t have a single complaint about swapping. Warranty is out at 36k anyway. That’s 1.5-2 years for most people. It’s a mute point.
I pick up my 2021 cement color today. This video came just in time in my recommendations. Seat covers would be a good thing to add. Kryptek looks good. Keeps those seats perfect underneath haha.
Good Question Paul. We don't think it will. The TSS (Toyota Safety Sense) is an integrated camera and radar system that should function just fine as long as it's still pointed forward. www.toyota.com/safety-sense/animation/ahb. Also, Toyota is well aware the popularity of aftermarket modifications, especially with the Tacoma, so I imagine they will have designed the system to accommodate such changes. And lastly, if someone were to load enough weight into the bed of the truck, it would cause a change in the angle of the front-end, again, I believe Toyota will have designed TSS with these eventualities in mind.
It is possible. The sensor comes from the factory calibrated at a certain height. By adding a leveling kit, you're changing the height and that can cause the sensor to read incorrectly.
carlos martinez if that’s correct then adding load the bed of the truck, carrying 4 full size adults in the cab, or changing tires sizes would all have an affect on the ride height of the vehicle. I’d expect the system has been developed to operate within a range. Additionally, the objects it’s designed to be sensing will be at a significant enough distance that 2” of vertical height would be unlikely to have any tangible effect on accuracy/performance. If someone finds anything that explicitly states the system must be recalibrated anytime the ride height of the vehicle is changed more than 1”, we’d like to know that.
I changed the position of my TSS when I swapped grill inserts. Still works fine. You can add some washers to the bolts if you need to reorient it slightly.
Let's make this COMMERCIAL BETTER! Next time please show products before/after shots and larger product pictures. The host is great but I would rather see a bigger picture of the products installed. I also had to sit through FOUR yt commercials. Not worth it!
The only thing a Tacoma “needs” is OVTune. The factory tune is garbage for power delivery, efficiency, and drivability... can’t be remedied with a simple pedal control module. Also, dyno these cold air intakes and see that they don’t actually do anything on these trucks lol. Just some cool noise for $400
Girlfriend is buying a 2017 4cylinder with a 5speed manual tranny. She is excited... I drive a dodge challenger so when I got behind the wheel it felt like a power wheels with a dead battery to me. Would an ecm tune really do much for a 4 banger? Or just ruin the fuel economy?

Upgrade tires, 235/85/16 = 32inch no rubbing. 255\85/16=33 inch no rubbing. Ovtune is amazing. No need for cai. H11 to h9 halogen headlight mod ~$15 for almost twice the light.
My 1st mod on my '20 trd offroad was k&n chrome tube cold air intake. I don't know about any performance gains but when you get the throttle to between 3000 and 5000rpms it sounds wicked almost like a trophy truck. It's badass 😎
Hell yeah, pair that with an exhaust and the V6's on these Tacomas sound pretty damn good!
You got a parts number for that intake brother?
@@XBadluckchuckX which one? We mentioned a few. Also, what year is your Tacoma? The ‘21 had some minor changes to the AC lines that prevent the box style intakes from fitting.
@@Motoroso Nooo the chrome K&N intake Mike is referring to. I’m thinking it’s a 77-9039KP but I’m not 100%. And mines a 2018 TRD Off-Road, so I’m all good.
Too noisy.
Very nice to see the endless mods for the 3rd Gen Tacoma. I am looking to purchase a 2023 TRD Sport or the off road model in the next two weeks. Thanks for sharing.
Love my 2019 Tacoma 4×4 V6 off road
The 2023 Tacoma is going to be sick!
100% Getting more air into the system, always better! CAI systems are nice, but just the filter helps for sure, the K&N Filter for the V6 can be bought here: www.motoroso.com/p/45270-kn-replacement-panel-air-filter-for-toyota-2014-tundra-46l57l-2014-sequoia-57l-v8?lid=1731392

Right before doing a long term review video of my 2018 TRD OffRoad in silver, the dealer offered me a 2021 in Red and with more options. I wasn’t sure about it, but then they offered to give ME a check to do the deal...couldn’t pass it up.

I bought a 2016 4x4 limited and love it
Great video, super well done!
Thank you sir, deeply appreciated!
Great video!! I just added the Rough Country 6 inch suspension Vertex coil over lift and 35's on my 2018 TRD Sport. What a difference the stance has, especially up here in Fairbanks Alaska where stock trucks are gobbled up in the snow and/or muskeg.
After the 6 inch lift, did u need to d any trimming to run 35’s? Or a cab mount chop?
So I just bought a 21 Tacoma off road 4x4 access cab. My previous Tacoma was a ‘10, then a ‘15, then a ‘19, now this one. I’ve always had to have a seat pad to address the seating position and in my ‘19, i jacked the rear of the seat with a 2” steel square tube and seat jackers for the front. The power seat in the ‘21 fixed the seating position issue 100%. I also want to put a lift on it and after going to the motoroso site, I was unable to find the mentioned Skyjacker kit.
Congrats on the new Tacoma Gerard! We can order the Skyjacker Lift kit, it's a special order item and we don't have a listing on our website currently. If interested in a price quote and shipping time estimate, please reach out to us at support@motoroso.com, or call toll free at 1.833.MOTOROSO!
Great Video.
Totally agree!
You Tube is a POS platform anymore.
They put so many interruptions it ruins everything.
Dynamic tests have shown "cold air intakes" often provide no boost in power and often result in less power. Everything is computerized and tuned for factory equipment. Some systems on some vehicles provide a few more horse power.
I'm pretty sure dealer mechanics doing warranty work can still track aftermarket ecu/flashes even if you flash back to stock tune. Just fyi.
Yeah they dont know how it was changed, but it does tell them how many times it was remapped.
Did the k&n make a difference
Haha 😂 Agreed!
Driving skill is the number mod. One should keep learning and keep practicing to up their skill level especially going out wheeling.
Bro shut the hell up big ass nerd

surprised step sides or rock sliders were not on this list.
6:22 Uh, the factory Tacoma intake system is already a cold air system that draws air from the fender area.
If you want "10 ply" tires that won't leave you changing a tire on logging roads, the leveling kit is requisite. It's not vanity and it hardly changes the profile anyway. If you're an adult who wants to look like a 17 year old and doesn't care about road handling, get a lift. You're BA.
Mods are half the fun
I have 31.65-inch tires (265/75R16) on my Tacoma without leveling kit and NO issues... Not even close to rubbing anywhere.
Dirtbike in back of truck is also a great mod
One might also say it’s a “must-have”!
Thanks for making the vid. Lots of good information. Wish you could show some more examples of these mods on the truck, not just the equipment but an actual pic of what it looks like on the vehicle.

What about re-gearing the Tacoma for better performance? Isn't it a better option than the throttle modules?
Hey Ozzie, well "better" is definitely debatable, but here's a couple things to consider: The throttle module is a
Ozzie, you’re correct.

Wouldn’t the leveling kit throw off the TSS calibration?
If someone finds anything that explicitly states the system must be recalibrated anytime the ride height of the vehicle is changed more than 1”, we’d like to know that.
carlos martinez my 2019 tacoma is lifted 6in and the tss works just fine
I changed the position of my TSS when I swapped grill inserts. Still works fine. You can add some washers to the bolts if you need to reorient it slightly.

What LED lights for a 2022 Tacoma TRD Off Road? Thanks!
They’re coming out with 4th gen this September
nope not until 2023
The only thing a Tacoma “needs” is OVTune. The factory tune is garbage for power delivery, efficiency, and drivability... can’t be remedied with a simple pedal control module.
Also, dyno these cold air intakes and see that they don’t actually do anything on these trucks lol. Just some cool noise for $400
1st thing im going to do is install step sides to protect the truck from getting hit by a shopping cart or car door
get interior led lights too
