Yeah. Grodus had all the qualities that make up a good villain; he was cold, ruthless, cunning, and extremely manipulative. I also find his maniacal laughter to be hilarious. As for PM: SS, I agree. While I have warmed up to the game since a week or so ago, and ended up enjoying it to some degree, it's still, unfortunately, missing a lot of elements that the previous three games had; ranging from actual partners, deep, story-driven plots, original enemies and bosses, etc.
Spoiler alert on how to beat him. First stage: be sure to get at least 2 sticker blocks when doing the spinner. Step 2 use either a super power bounce or a super freeze hammer, thus damaging all enemies. Step 3 use 2 flashy slap hammers to knock over the thwomp and use scissors right after. Step 4. Use the refrigerator or Italian ice to freeze the podobos. Step 5. Make sure you have a flashy tail sticker and use it to rebound the chain chomp straight back at bowser thus knocking him offcliff
One of them is in a volcano with dangerous enemies there. I get it was just because a hard boss coming up, but there is no other Toad residence on the entire Island, if they just added a few towns(A single shop or single house does not count as a town) to explore would give more things to do and more opportunities for funny character. Like I said, the humor in this game is great, Kertsi calling Kemek a hipster a few times was really funny, but funny things don't happen often. (Cont.)
At Final Bowser, I don't know why people dont just use the Boombox and either Flashy Infinijump or Big Shiny Infinijump. Points like that MAY take you past the Kersti cutscene.
Man, the music and visuals are the ONLY thing I like about this game. In fact, this probably has the best visuals and best soundtrack out of any Paper Mario game! Too bad everything else about Sticker Star falls so flat (no pun intended) compared to the other 3 games in the series.
The world map really took away from the experience also(IMO). It was really fun traveling by foot to get to your next destination, but at any point Mario can just go back to the world map and walk to the main town. That's another thing, there is only one town in the whole game, and you do everything there except when your late in the game, you need to go to a different shop to buy more powerful stickers. It's not even like the other shops belong in the places they are. (Cont.)
True that. The 1st was just made to get you pumped, the 2nd fills you with dread with one of the hardest battles in Paper Mario history, the 3rd is just... so suspenseful. And the 4th... well is very upbeat. I love them all!
When I got this game, I wasn't expecting much because of the return to a turn-based system without levels or partners. I LOVED the first two Paper Mario games, but this return seemed bittersweet to me. I decided to look at the game from a less critical standpoint and to simply enjoy it for what it was. This game reminded me of the joy of playing games as a child and caring more about adventure and fun. For the first time in years, I felt like a kid again. Sorry for the long comment :3
Sticker Star has these epic final boss themes, the underground theme, and aside from that, they just reuse the same instruments over and over again. Super Paper Mario's standout tracks (in this case every single track) all sound completely different, use different instruments for the most part, and are WAY more memorable.
the only good thing about this game was the music and that's....pretty sad when you think about it.this isn't paper mario!! I call this STICKER MARIO!!
... then you wouldn't need to spend those coins to buy the stickers because you wouldn't have used the stickers up. The worlds(Not, levels, WORLDS) were uncreative also. In past games, you went into toy boxes, entered a wrestling arena, and jumped around in a pixelated world full of references. SS had the generic grass, desert, forest, snow, etc. There were a few fun levels like Sniffit-or-Whiffit and the Ski Lift, but otherwise its just "walk to this place and get the piece." (Cont.)
You're right, the final battle is very emotional. Your best friend, who has been travelling with you for the whole game, literally sacrifices herself to help you. If that's not emotional I don't know what is.
I dunno. In terms of allys: Paper Mario: I really liked them, especially Bombette. TTYD: I LOVED THEM ALL... especially Goombella. SPM: Timpani was a nice girl, and she really grew on me. Sticker Star: Kertsi is a bowl of fuck. I'm sorry, but I hated Kertsi so badly, I could wipe my bum with that arrogant, bossy, and just utterly unlikable piece of toilet paper.
You guys are crazy, it may not be as good as the others sure, but for what it did and what it was trying to do it accomplished it wonderfully. It was trying to make a Mario RPG game with the basic story of Mario. I love this game, as well as the others. Remember unlike a movie and book, the core of a game is the gameplay.
EXTREMELY under rated. I have no idea what people have against the story line, I think it's hands down the best story telling in the whole series mostly because it's faster paced and it actually made Bowser disturbing. I also love the fact that you don't need Kersti to beat Bowser so it makes you feel more sad when you do.
i just rented this game and i am impressed with it and i'm at boss 2 already and i JUST rented it today lol....of course i had a lot to do so i didn't play it that much yet...i'm impressed with how much hp the bosses have in this one!!
When I first got to that scene I tried fighting Bowser without Kirsti for about 10 turns until I pretty much had no choice to, It made me feel like I picked the worst choice but it also helped everything. Sure other RPG's had a character(s) sacrifice her/himself for you but in those RPG's I always was like "...cool" but in this game I was like "I AM NOT GONNA LET YOU DIE!".
Haha its fine, I beat the game now and can't wait to see what they do for the fifth game in each series. And even though its true he might have been the final boss in the game, they went about it very cleverly. Me honestly I hope we get the next Mario and Luigi before 2016 and Paper Mario Wii U.
It depends. If you can get an infinijump to do at least 3 base damage with an attack enhancer sticker, you can just use a single attack enhancer followed by two infinjump-type stickers. I wonder if their base attack can be raised that high, though.
I really liked the final battle, but I thought they might do this differently like have Bowser gone mad with power that he's not even in control, then there will be a Mario Clone made out of stickers! Now that would be EPIC!
My reviews: Storyline: Seems a lot like the first PM. 4/10 Music: Totally outstanding. 11/10 Gameplay. I'll be generous, but it was kinda "meh." 7/10 Bosses: No new characters, but they are epic and hard. 9/10 Difficulty: It's sort of a hard game when you don't know the puzzles and weaknesses. 9/10 Overall: 9/10
eeyup that's right. I don't know that I don't own it yet. I got so many other epic games i'm making boss beatdown videos for so yeah I'm not worried at all :)
Final third of the song: Is... that a star theme I hear in the battle with "giga" bowser? Is that the first time the star theme has been used for a mario game's final boss battle? Pretty epic....
IKR Miyomoto said himself that the game wasn't based as much on storyline and was mainly about the battles and puzzles. I really prefer a storyline. This games music though. Priceless. There are a few others who top it, though.
With SS, all stats are just generally higher (even coins, though that's not a stat) and in SPM leveling up brings you higher attack power if I'm not mistaken (not to mention it's easier), so only TTYD is a properly comparable game.
The power was multiplied by 2. Anyway, I made it by doing 400 attack points per turn. I never acquired Megaflash Infinijump. All it takes is two boss Flashy Infinijumps. :) The Boombox effect lasts two turns. (To note, this is not the regular Bowser, this is when he's huge.) As long as you don't go for his head, you won't get spiked in the foot and waste your Flashy Infinijump. Sure, you'll lose HP, but that won't matter if you have two Flashy Infinijumps and a Big Shiny Infinijump. Ha! :D
the bosses are hard yes but i can't complete it in two day because 1. i got a job babysitting my nieces and usually i don't have time to really play it.... 2. I got other jobs as well and 3. I'm busy with my Nintendo Boss Beatdown videos making a new intro and making them all into season. so you understand i got a lot to do. and i can only focus on one game at a time.
There's this thing in games called "Dominant Strategy". If you're given a better way of disposing of obstacles in a game without penalty, you're always going to use it. You shouldn't need to restrict some of the game to make it harder, that's like playing Kirby but not using his copy ability. It's very possible and makes it harder, but it's just artificial difficulty. The player shouldn't have to make up challenges for more difficulty.
Personally, I really think this game is lacking in everything compared to the first 3. I think the humor was the only thing that stood out along with a few good songs like this one. I didn't like the whole sticker aspect at all; not because it was different, but because it was bad. Since there is no exp. at all, there is no motivation to fight anyone. If you beat them, then you get coins to buy stickers, but If you never fought the enemies, (cont.)
Yes, I know. I've beaten him, but he annoyed me to all hell the 1st time around, because all I had left were Jump stickers & all I could target was his head.
Paper Mario also had the same plot line, along with meeting and talking to all kinds of people. Not only that, but this game came after Super Paper Mario, which had the best story among the Paper Mario games. I'm not saying this game needs to have the same tone or depth as Super Paper Mario, but at least some substance to the story, not the basic story of nearly every Mario Platformer.
You are right about Miyamoto saying that but it's interesting that with what they had, they made a pretty decent game. Might not be the best paper mario game, but at least they did better than the wii one. I do like that bowser is only used as the powerfull last boss and villain in name and kamek is the true antagonist , in some way I feel like he just used bowser..hmm.. looks like everybody is outsmarting him even the goombas with their upgrades and all.
There was SOME plot just not that much. From what I gather after completing the game Bowser crashes a festival and touches a mystical comet which breaks it apart and the pieces landed on him and certain minions across the world. The main piece landing on his head. He uses this to become invincible and you have to find the other Royal Stickers to defeat him and save the Mushroom World.
On the contrary, I feel that Grodus is the BEST antagonist in the Paper Mario games. He is just so cruel, but is so cool at the same time. Twas nice to hate a rival that's NOT bowser. I mean, seriously. Also, I think we can both agree that Sticker Star is the least appealing of the Papet Mario games so far.
There was some music that was better than SS's, but this game had the best music in the entire series OVERALL. There are 3 factors I use to rate music: How catchy it is, how fitting it is, and the vibes it gives you. Not only did the music seemed to fit all 3 of those categories well, it was very consistent with its high quality. (And some I can't get out my head at all!) While the others did get some amazing music themselves, some of the others were like, meh. For SS, bad music = endangered.

The game is really easy too. Like, REALLY easy. I know Nintendo isn't known for overly-challenging videogames, but the only challenge I ever had was when I forgot to bring the sponge to the world 3 boss. Paperizing was also a downside to the game. It was a great Idea, but I was just too slow. Like when you need to remove a piece of a wall just to turn it around and put it back facing the right way. When I pull it of, Mario goes back into gameplay mode, so you need to press Y again (Cont.)
Paper Mario: Never Played. TTYD: THEY ARE ALL LOVABLE....especially the Yoshi. Super: Never Played. Sticker Star: KILL KERSTI WITH FIRE! KERSTI IS A SASSY WHINY BITCH WITH NO LIKABLENESS AT ALL!
The first theme is really catchy, the second one is badass, and the third one gives me goosebumps like crazy.
Yeah. Grodus had all the qualities that make up a good villain; he was cold, ruthless, cunning, and extremely manipulative. I also find his maniacal laughter to be hilarious.

jazz + rock + dance beat = this... damn i would never have thought of a combination like that would bring such a masterpiece!

I could just imagine a sombrero guy with an electric guitar just rocking out in the background of the final boss fight.
this is the only mario game i regret buying and heck I bought them all

You can extend the Boom Box duration if you repeatedly tap A when it's playing. (Great - 3 turns; haven't gotten Excellent)

I really wish you hadn't told me that, I hadn't beat the game yet and I literally just got to what I believe to be the final level.
Yes, this is my favorite game on 3DS
At First i was excited :D this game rates 10/10 BEST STORYLINE EVER
This game was way too short.

This may me cry when kerfet left mario
It’s amazing!!!
That's 6......6......6....... magical words.....
I almost Cried when Kersti Sacrificed Herself to save The world :')
good point.
Yeah, it's really hard to kill Bowser without Kersti. You have to practically be a master at the Infinijump move to do it.
i completed the game 2 days ago THIS GAME ROCKS Bosses are hard but this game rocks
I have a full time job at a restaurant and I'm also busy with college classes but I just had to beat this game
If Iron Infinijump was unleashed into the game...
The Kersti cutscene was cut off, and Bowser died within two turns. The game crashed. ._."
LOVE IT
Colour splash... here we co- ... oh no... this just came to mind.
....good point.
hell yeah we did

Id say Sticker Star had pretty epic music :3
Wow, even regular Infinijumps were sufficient? That's neat.
it will be cool

Have you ever played it?
Have you ever beaten the game by yourself (without your big brother or sister)?
Your answer tells me all that I need to know.
Don't worry, I won't rage at you. You're entitled to your opinion.
fluttershy's return of the YYYYAAAAYYYY
will do. i gotta give it back because i rented it trying it out....now I want it! XD lol
On the contrary, I feel that Grodus is the BEST antagonist in the Paper Mario games. He is just so cruel, but is so cool at the same time. Twas nice to hate a rival that's NOT bowser. i guess your right tippi i miss her Blumiere :)
BROHOOVE!!!!! YAY

What about choose your own adventure books or trivia books?
Or those weird interactive board games that use movies?
i had to go up against this guy 3 times
1st i was really unprepared, only 75 hp and less stickers.
2nd i was at 95 hp and when Bowser was 4 hp i ran out of hammer stickers and stuck with jump stickers which cost me 5 in damage since he was wearing the crown.
3rd try i was lucky that i found the infinite shoe sticker. and use so many thing stickers.
third is the charm.
Kersti..
Final Boss King Bowser
I swear people treat this game as the FF13 of the Mario RPGs.
The story might have been bland in this game but imo the gameplay, music and general feel were amazing! ^^
Quality Wise:
Thousand Year Door 9/10
Original 8/10
Super 7/10
Sticker Star 5/10
Sticker Star was very different, but it was still good. Great music too. I'd give it a 7/10. I agree with your TYD rating though. That game's nearly perfect. lol
Reminded me of a rainbow road 5:31
only bowser theme I like even though I havent played the game
Even though this game have a un-interesting story like the other 3 paper mario games but the visual and the soundtrack was pretty AMAZING and that's why this game rocks but i wish it have better story :P
the game mechanics of having to use stickers and no level up system and also you're screwed if you run out of stickers and can't attack or defend yourself is dumb beyond words. also kersti is the most annoying partner in history!!! don't say navi is because navi wasn't an ignorant bi*** -_-
yeah i agreed
Super koopa finally someone does. and the ending didn't make me sad at all. kersti was that unlikable!!
yeah.... kersti is a two face b**ch
P.S always grind coins (that's what i always do in paper mario games especially paper mario sticker star so i never run out of stickers :D )
They were trying to make it more PAPER like it should have been in the first 3 games.
kerfet came back in the end though
Sticker Star: Average game, KICK ASS SOUNTRACK.
I think the 3rd phase of this final battle is better than the other 3. It's just my opinion, don't need to rage at me XD
Kersti said she's a lady in the game 4 times!
trumpets ftw
Yeah :D

he also listed other reasons.
