Great videos, man !! I wish they had been around when I first started my IT career. I had just left school and had no idea what to expect. It was a nightmare for the first 2 years as I knew very little and users made the job very stressful with their demands and pressure to find an immediate solution. I have to say that the school system is a mess and does not prepare young IT people properly for such jobs. Thank you for all you've done, it's really appreciated.
Thank you very much! Yeah, back in my day school didn't teach real life scenarios. I appreciate your support as well. Words like that are very motivating.
I’ve been in help desk for two years and I still need some of this. My company made us escalate anything so I never had to do a lot of this. Btw why did you do all of that and then write “user was mistyping password” when that wasn’t the issue 😂
Hi and thank you so much for these videos. I graduated with an AAS in IT Computer Networking recently, have an active Microsoft Azure Administrator certification, and just got my first job as a help desk technician!!! I am so excited and your videos are helping settle my nerves and give me some added confidence when I start working. Thanks so much for what you do!
Subscribed. Brilliant videos. These really helped me during interviews but also on increasing my general knowledge sometimes on simple things. I like how to relate it to real world office situations. Hope to see some 3rd line more advanced videos too. Thank you and all the best.
@ it’s going pretty good. There is/was/still is a lot of things I get humbled on but it’s exciting because I’m getting to learn new things. Im working a lot in AD, azure, and exchange. There is a guy on our team who is a tier 2 and I work with him. He’s taking me under his wing and I’m starting to get asked questions on how to do things by other techs. I think I got very lucky because the guy that I work with hes super knowledgeable and pushes me to be better, he teaches me and corrects me on my mistakes, which I don’t mind, since he’s been there for a while. He knows best. But so far so good. A lot of the tickets you see from this channel are super relatable now. My advice now that I’m in, if they ask if you have any questions during your interview, please ask them questions.
"Don't try to just immediately get a sysadmin job" Exactly what I did. Six months ago I got my first real IT job as a sysadmin at an MSP and I will quit next week. I'm like in blind flight, way beyond my level. Answering the phone not knowing what to say most of the times. My pulse is up and my stomach twists. They were expecting to reconfigure a switch and add firewall rules. I constantly have to ask others and because of that I loose so much time and then at the end of the day I have not enough billable hours etc. My advice: Only apply for jobs you know 80% of the stuff and be very UPFRONT about what you can do. I knew like 40% of it and 60% new. And Pro Tip: Try to aim for internal IT if you're new. This way you can put in the time you need to troubleshoot and not be so afraid of having too long. I had to stop working on some tickets because it was taking too much time. Not great in terms of learning/growing.
At the "failed to create a tray Icon1" issue. Can we use the event log to troubleshoot? If we check the system or app error logs, we could find the real problem. 41:00
Present. Im having a hard time getting a call back for a help desk job. I just graduated. Im studying for the Sec+ in the meantime. Im also thinking about getting the Microsoft 365 fundamentals Cert to learn more about M365.
Hello. When you apply for these jobs make sure you emphasize your computer skills on top of the resume and during interviews. They need to know that you are the guy for this job. Certs can help.
When lapotp does not turn ON Always check if there is any lights around the laptop if so, it may indicate and give you the error code. Next try > unplug all USB devices > press and hold power button for 1 min > wait few seconds > press power button ON. Sometimes laptop is running but the dysplay stays black. The another thing is to check if there is any noise coming from the laptop. Also try move the display up and down. If the battery is removable you can try take it out. It is worth the check if the laptop is connected to any docking station that may by faulty or it just needs restart.. ...YOu are welcome 😁😁👌👌
Also connect directly to power outlet and make sure they are using the laptops power supply, not the docks and vice versa if they are docked. Sometimes windows will stay black until you Ctrl Alt Del a couple of times
Thanks! Great question! There are a lot of different remote tools; like ControlUp, Beyond Trust, DameWare or you can simply ask user to share screen through Teams or Zoom. You can then take control of the computer.
Hi, Ervin Hope you are doing well! Well thank you for the awesome videos and a unique teaching style with live examples. Just had a doubt in my mind in terms of sharing screen. If user can't login to his/her system how can they be able to share screen😢. Well this could be a stupid question but I saw you in the start of the video you have said so😊
Hello. You are fine. There is no such thing as a stupid question. 😁You can have them login to that computer using a local Administrator account (this uses a LAPS password), after that they can just login to Teams, Zoom and etc. to share screen. Usually, LAPS password is found in AD for the computer name. So, the login id would most likely be Administrator, and password is whatever is under LAPS info.
Got it thank you man. I have an interview tomorrow for the service desk role, I m sure they gonna ask me about o365 exchange will you pls advise what type of qns. they can ask in exchange?
Dear Erwin hope you are doing great. I have GP for prohibiting the domain users to access internet sharing hotspots on their pcs. But when i restart the pc users are able to use the hotspot again.
Hello. There most be another GP that overrides the policy you have in place. Probably a top level policy that does that. Hard to say without looking at it.
Nice video Cobuman, im looking to get my first helpdesk job, should i get the ComptiA+ cert before applying for jobs? , i have decades of "unoffical" pc building/fixing and trouble shooting experience, and now familier with Active Directory and office 365?
Thanks! I'd say start applying right away and make sure you list your PC experience near the top of the resume. That counts as experience for sure. In the meantime you can study for A+, AD, O365 and make sure you emphasize any knowledge you have during the interview. Even if the first interview is with just an HR person, make it known that you can do this job.
