    My dad passed away on February 1st from covid, he left me his omega seamaster 300 with the 8800 movement, it’s bitter sweet having it because my dad loved this watch as much as I do too but I’d give it up if I could have him back, until then I’ll hold on to it until I see him again so I can give it back to him because it’s more his watch then it’ll ever be mine ❤️

      I agree! The best kept ‘secret’, as far as I’m concerned! Yes, Rolex invented many features that automatic wristwatches enjoy today: The first, effective, water-resistant case, arguably among the most relevant but Rolex is a bit mundane and their innovations are still there but their watches can only withstand, I believe, between 1000-5000 gauss. The Omega has a capability of 15,000, three+ times Rolex’ capabilities. Even the 8800 movement is a superior movement to the 4130 Rolex caliber. That cyclops eye just never did it for me! I’ll take the date at 6-O-Clock, thank you!

    I also pulled the trigger today.
    It took a long time for me to do this step. Reading about it, collecting experiences... reviews and and and...
    I finally had the opportunity to walk into an AD after today's work. (in the next bigger town near my home)
    I saw it in real life for the first time. touched it, put it on my wrist and well... I was not able to walk out of the store without it anymore 💕

    I went looking for my first omega a couple years ago thinking about getting a speedy but wound up getting a planet ocean (8500). I absolutely love it. I have been an omega fan boi for 35 years and finally own one for myself. I don't dislike rolex at all, but i think their prices are hyper inflated because they have a better marketing department that created an abnormal demand for their watches.

    One man's experience with both brands over a span of 15 years:
    Have owned two Rolex (Explorer 36mm and the old Sub No-Date). Have owned two Omega Seamasters, including my current watch, a 36.5mm Seamaster with black face. Loved all of them honestly. But the Omega have been more consistent as time keepers for me and the lume is much, much better, which is important to me as a mountain trekker who occasionally finds himself out after dark.

    • @MarquitoRH
      @MarquitoRH 3 года назад +2

      Good input. One thing I never get as a watch fan is the obsession with lume. I really don’t care at all. If I need to know the time in the dark I use my phone or if it’s going to be a night bike ride etc I wear one of my G Shocks with a backlight. For explorers/mountain fans there are a ton of great pieces of tech to use. Same as divers watches. I have a few including a Planet Ocean GMT, ( same thing with the GMT complication - completely unnecessary as I can use my phone anywhere in the world and it auto corrects and an app like Miranda will do the business for multiple time zones, or do the maths in my head but I just love the idea and look if it ) but my son who is a Dive Instructor points out serious divers will almost always use a sophisticated Dive Computer these days perhaps with a conventional dive watch as a backup. Anyway I love Omegas and this is just my personal point of view.

    Well with luxury brands like omega I like the fact that they are more dedicated in the actual product itself rather than focusing on marketing strategies like rolex beside I like the fact that it is more hidden to public nowadays when we talk about a luxury watch we all reminded of rolex so In this sense I belive omega is more exclusive and what I call it for people with more taste. If you are wearing an omega not only that tells that you are wealthy but also it indicates that you are also smart enough not to pay the crazy inflated price of a rolex.

    I have a few Rolexes, but I am sick of paying the waiting game for the new ones I want and no way am I paying more than retail on the grey market. I’ve also had issues with Rolex ADs with whom I have a solid buying history with, playing games by wanting me to purchase watches I don’t want, (and at higher price margins than the ones I want), for the privilege of being somewhere on the list to get the watches I do want. I find that to be fairly unethical.
    I wanted 2020 to end on a good note, so on December 31, I went out and bought an Omega Seamaster 300M. ...My first Omega. And I love it. And even better, I walked into the AD - a store I’d never been in before and with whom I have zero buying history - and I was able to look at the watch I was thinking about purchasing, along with several others. They treated me like a valued customer the very moment I walked in the door, and they had inventory! I left the store on my original visit to give myself a few days to decide if I really wanted to purchase the watch or not. Five days later, I went in and purchased it. It was the best purchase I made in 2020 and wearing it every day since has been a joy. I’m going to cancel the order I have had in with the Rolex AD for the last four months. I’m not even interested in purchasing another Rolex until the games they’re playing with supply changes. And I’m already considering purchasing a different Omega that I looked at when I went to purchase my Seamaster. Two Omegas for the price of one Rolex? Yes, please!
    Life is short. I don’t want to wait months, or even years, to get a Rolex when I’ve got the money to spend and want a new watch right now. The look, feel and quality of this Omega has impressed me; the AD treated me like a valued customer; and I know I’ll actually be able to look at and purchase the watch I want...when I want it, because they have stock available. Sold. I’m a fan.

      I agree with you fully Robert, and I think the fact Omega has gained so much traction in the last few years has been a testament to their vast improvement in quality, closing the gap with them and Rolex. Having owned both Rolex Submariner 11610 and the Omega Seamaster with 2500D movement it was no contest. The Rolex destroyed it. But when the new Omega Seamaster 2018 came and the 8800 movement, it was game over. Sold my Sub for 10k (box and papers) and mice a nice little profit.
    Owning the new Seamaster for almost 2 years, I've never looked back. Even with the new 2020 Submariner its was pretty Meh. Took Rolex awhile to catch up to Omega. With a huge increase in price and an automatic 2 year fantasy waitlist it's not even worth it any more.

      Now this is the kind of insight I wanted to hear, as someone who's never owned a submariner and in today's market probably won't pick one up seeing as how there's fierce competition. Espeically with Rolex's latest increasingly conservative changes to the lineup I'm feeling alot of lack of imagination that I see Omega working hard to close the gap in. Now I by no means think Rolex is bad, as an owner of one they're fantastic. It's just hard to justify taking a sub today and our opinions seem to match up perfectly regarding the contest between sub and smp. Thanks for the insight!

    Think about all the horror stories that luxury watch owners tell, and then imagine how many of those stories were because they said “I don’t need that much water resistance.” “What’s the point of so much anti-magnetism?” “Who even noticed chronometer accuracy?” Meanwhile, Seamaster owners have a stress-free, over-built, bada** watch; and if you think divers aren’t dressy, ask James Bond his opinion.

    Very nice video, crammed with terrific information. I have two Seamasters, one I've had for about 30 years, gold bezel with a black face but is only 36mm;. I a second one a little over a years ago, 41 mm with a blue bezel & face, both are quartz which I prefer to an automatic. Yes, I'm looking around for a another Seamaster but with a black bezel & face. When I got my first Omega, I asked the jeweler what was the difference with one selling for $1700 vs $800 or $900, the less expensive watches have plastic gears vs the more expensive metal gears. I do like the Seamaster over the Speedmaster since I don't like to have busy face on the watch besides, I really doubt I would take it off to time someone in a race. Overall, the Seamaster is made to IMPRESS.

    I totally agree with you! Rolex is ‘overhyped’, overpriced, 904L stainless steel is ‘not’ better than 316L. It’s a little more corrosion resistant and shiny but also a little softer and prone to scratches and the triple lock crown system is nice on the Rolex but ‘overkill’ and the gaskets in the Omega ‘more’ than protect the water resistance of the Seamaster! The Omega is also more accurate! I know a person who owns both a GMT Rolex and a Seamaster. He has a 3135 movement in the Rolex and an 8800 caliber in the Seamaster. He says the Seamaster is ‘more’ accurate. You may argue that the new, 3235 Rolex movement is better but I’ve read many threads online that say it isn’t. For what it’s worth, that’s what I hear! Personally, the designs of Rolex ‘hardly’ if ever really appealed to me! However, the Omega watches always stoked my interest. If you’re going by history, read up ‘carefully’ and if you’re a Rolex fan, you may be disappointed in what you find! Rolex has a ‘distinct’ design that many appreciate and love but ultimately, it is a ‘heavily’ marketed watch that ‘touts’ innovated designs! Some of those designs were ‘bought’ or ‘acquired’ and not ‘created’ by Rolex of it’s founders and Rolex was ‘not’ the first ‘serialized’, publicly offered ‘five’ watch! That honor belongs to Omega and not even BlancPain. The ‘Marine’ in 1932. Enough said!

    Just curious, is the new omega seamaster bezel have some fraction of a mm "play" on the bezel? its like the bezel have a bit of give movement...really tiny side to side movement..is it normal? its like tiny bit loose but i know its not actually loose...and have small metallic sound when you tap the bezel...some people said that's not flaw as long as there is perfect alignment, but i don't know, what do you think? i was quite panic when i first received the watch.

      To be honest I found this one way too tight, didn’t experience any loosening either. If anything I’ve heard the complaint very often that they’re just annoying to turn especially because the grip on the scalloped bezel isn’t great . They should be easy to adjust if you take it to a jeweller if you have that issue though, I’ve heard of people resetting them at home on the forums but personally I wouldn’t touch a watch this expensive myself 😅 Hope that helps!

    I actually sold my seamaster 300m white dial for the new 41mm sub date. Don’t get me wrong, I really loved the seamaster, but I really found it hard to see the date complication. Maybe my eyes need checking, but I really like the Cyclops on the sub for that reason.
    I also think the sub date looks more “timeless”. In 30 years i can hazard a guess that my submariner won’t look out of place compared to the latest version, however the seamaster changes a lot, and I can’t begin to imagine what it will look like.

    IMO, the Submariner is a classic watch. It looks beautiful and will endure. But, I prefer my Seamaster 300m. I find it more interesting to look at and I think the underlying technology is superior. The daniel's escapement was one of the reasons I bought mine. Definitely, although there's something to be said about the charm of owning an icon like the submariner, it's not like the smp is "un-iconic" and I do agree with you about the technology being superior. It really is horses for courses. I cannot see one really any better than the other. With reference to the watches, not the bracelets, there is not much in it other than determining which you like the look of. They both use premium materials, have similar power reserves, in-house movements (the Daniels escapement seems overhyped to me though) and prestige. The main reason I have never purchased an Omega is the bracelet, which compared to the Rolex, seems of lesser quality. I do like some Omegas and may get one anyway in the near future.

I know they've tooled a 43.5mm version in ceramic (no red highlights, no date, and 1.5x cost!) so why can't they do this model based on that case sizing? For now, I'll carry on wearing my 45.5mm Planet Ocean 600M chrono but I would like a non-chrono watch to wear for a change. I know some people comment hoping certain larger watches could be made for their smaller wrists, but it works both ways! There are a lot of watches I like that are just too small, especially 40mm and under which look like they're made for children!

    Completely agree. I own an SMP, a 1999 model, and I wear it daily. I also own a 2002 Rolex kermit and a 2009 white face daytona, out of which I wear the kermit rarely and the daytona never. Partly due to pricing as I live in London where watch theft is at an all time high, and partly due to condition. I put my SMP on a rubber strap so no concerns about scratches on the bracelet. The daytona bezel seems to get scratched just by looking at it too. I have been tempted by the new SMP as it looks great but I can't part with the one I have and don't need two

    • @WatchTWM
      @WatchTWM  4 года назад

      Ouf that's a very common dilemma between those two. Not gonna lie the black bay holds a special place in my heart, the burgundy ETA model is the one to go for for me personally. The in house is a chunky chunky thing. Also you're getting an aluminium bezel, which while yes it's more classical it doesn't offer the resistance of the ceramic. Dollar for dollar I think the seamaster wins hands down as far as what the best value is, but the Black Bay brings a different set of advantages to the table in terms of more classical and traditional characteristics

    • @cwuzii
      @cwuzii 4 года назад

      @@WatchTWM very true, also value held seems to differentiate, the black bay sells for not far off retail whereas the seamaster is a worth a grand less the second you walk out the shop. I think I do prefer the seamaster, just need to decide colour.

    Ok,my 2 cents. I'm the recent, proud owner ,of the Omega seamaster diver 300. Not this watch. More the Specter look,but not the Specter version. I could have bought a Rolex but,to be honest, i see a lot of them around the office, and I like to be a little different. Probably the deciding factor was,I just wanted something different. A few grand wasn't the deciding factor. I built mega yachts for 20 years,and am currently working as a consultant for a company that paints them. I also live abroad an antique Bluewater racing yacht. I was with my father in 1975,when he bought his Rolex GMT Pepsi bezel, in Atlanta, at Bailey, Banks,and Biddle, for $500. The watch he wore before the Rolex, was an Omega seamaster, he purchased in Germany, while he served in the US Air Force,so I figured, not being fond of Rolex Submariner, I'd go Omega. My 300 is a beast. It's not a bad watch, it's a excellent time piece, and,for the desk diver ,adequate for that purpose. I,on the other hand, dive a lot. I'm 60 years old,and find the helium escape valve superfluous, and I own a Tag Aqua-Racer quartz, that looks similar to the Omega in the video. I also own a Seiko 6309-7049, my wife bought new in 1984 ,that needs service,but still runs. Not fond of the Tag. Failed at 6ft scraping the bottom of my sailboat. The Seiko is more sentimental, but no gripes. Now about the Omega seamaster 300 diver. I got the stainless bracelet, grey market, for about half retail, with the box,1 card and the sellers 5 year warranty. Not bad. As a dive tool ? Not good. The lum sucks,and is non-existent on the bezel. At my age,I don't need the date complication,but I have to angle the watch, just right, so I can read the time. I don't dislike the watch. I'll probably buy something else,at some point, and give this one to my son. Until then, I'll service the Seiko, and use it as my dive watch. Been fine for 38 years,so why not ? Hope this comment helps you in some way. Just my opinion. Capt.Bob, SV 27th Chance, Tampa Fl.
