I will be getting a Seamaster in two weeks ( the only question is color and bracelet or rubber ). Some forty years ago, my dad came home with an Omega and since then I have been fascinated by the brand. I was never able to afford a higher end watch all these years settling for cheaper options. Having celebrated my 50th birthday last year in the midst of the pandemic and unable to celebrate it in any meaningful way, I finally decided this year to get my dream watch - The Seamaster. I am so excited and am sure that I will enjoy it for a lifetime. This watch represents for me a dream of a lifetime and an homage to my father. Thanks again Teddy for another great review.

I have owned 5 Seamasters since I got into the hobby. Two Planet Oceans and three 300Ms. Not a single one had the bracelet. It is a subjective opinion for sure, but I have never liked Omega's bracelets. On the other hand, their rubber and nato straps are absolutely amazing. Enjoy your watch!

Hi, I got the Seamaster 300 Diver in blue on a bracelet a few years ago and its stunning, from the dial to the caseback and the excellent movement it is perfect. I dont have a large wrist but it wears more like a 40mm, get it on the bracelet, which is also excellent especially with sliding adjuster, then you can add another strap later if you want. Go for it.

As many have said buy it with the bracelet then add the rubber band which is cheaper than doing it in the reverse. Allows you to dress it up or down as needed. I have the white dial and currently using the black rubber and it just looks amazing. Enjoy.

I have the black dial and wear it every single day. Omega is less expensive, actually available, more accurate with METAS, and Omega boutiques make you feel like a King when you're there. Its seriously a no-brainer. I love the He valve precisely because it's pointless. It's unique and acts like that set of headlights on a car that make you recognize exactly what you're driving past on the highway even at night. The haters are usually Rolex snobs which means their opinion means precisely Jack poo to me. I don't care about resale. I don't care about clout. I want the best possible technical diving tool available at the price point and there is no denying that the Diver 300M is just that. Omega for life.

I bought this exact same watch 8 months ago-- I bought a Rolex Sub almost four years ago at retail before the world and market lost their minds... my Omega gets worn 3 times more than my Sub does--- it just wear better, and frankly looks better in my opinion. Here's my take... 5,000 is a lot of money for 98% of the population to spend on a watch (yours included). So to call this an "entry" in the luxury watch market I think is inaccurate; for many, (yours included) this price point is the high end of what they can spend on a watch and often times is the pinnacle or "grail" of their collection. -- The entry brand into "luxury watches" in my opinion would be TAG.... So if my assessment has any validity the reason Omega is doing so well lately is that the average consumer who wants to buy one luxury watch once in their lifetime and has a budget of 5-7k, where do they spend it? It's not going to be on a Rolex; not the way the market has been the last several years--- and right there waiting in the wings for these consumers has been Omega... they have been killing it the last 3-4 years... (off topic, I think the swatch Collaboration is going to pay huge dividends over the next decade for this brand too). Finally, you are treated exactly how you should be treated in an Omega boutique when you are dropping 5-8k on a watch-- like a king-- night and day better experience than when I picked up my sub at the Rolex AD---

Like you say, it's effortless enough to look casual yet classy with jeans and a T and is also flashy enough to dress up with a nice button down. Durable too, after 2 years of being my main daily wear it's showing only one fine scratch.

As much as I wanted to buy this watch, at the last moment, I decided to go with the Speedmaster Professional 3861 Hesalite version. My love for Omega started when my Dad introduced me to his watch some 40 years ago as outlined in my post below. My brother who is four years older than me came to the US from India to study Aerospace Engineering, as he was a huge fan of NASA and the moon landings. I still recall us watching the challenger launch as teenagers and the eventual tragedy. As i looked toward him, I could see tears streaming down his cheeks as he knew it was the end of NASA and the US space program as we knew it. The Moonwatch is an homage to my dad who inspired in me the love of Omega and to my brother who instilled in me the love of space. My brother told me a couple of weeks ago that he has a $$ figure in mind that he will pay for a commercial fight with SPACEX. The price of that commercial flight he figures will reach his tolerance level in the next 5 years. On that flight, he said he wants to be wearing my Moonwatch. When you consider the escalating prices of even entry level luxury watches, the 300M diver (like it or not), may just represent the best value in all of horology at the moment. In a world where SW300 based models are hitting 3-4k from some brands, Omega offers a METAS certified movement, ceramic bezel, 300m of water resistance, open caseback, gorgeous wave dial, and brand cachet. All for under 5k with a typical discount. I have a gray dial on a blue rubber strap and it gets its fair share of compliments and wrist time.

Shrink it down, don't eliminate it. The real update I want to see is a presidential style bracelet option for the SMP line, which historically Omega has done. Their new Speedmaster presidential bracelet is honestly as good as it gets, IMHO.

The valve doesn’t get in the way or poor me, ever, and the top of the crystal may have the slightest bit of a mark where the coating was scuffed on the crystal in one spot. I have never really had a great watch, settling for cheaper options and currently wearing an Apple Watch. I have always wanted an Omega and since I celebrated my 50th birthday last year in the midst of the pandemic and was not really able to celebrate it in any meaningful way, I have finally decided to spoil myself and get this dream watch of mine. In my opinion, this is a clear winner! I've owned several SM's and Rolex subs and have to say the build quality of the SM vs Sub has always been superior, better bracelets, better bezels. This should be the price point of the sub in all reality for what it is as a watch. I'd love to see the new style 'beads of rice' bracelet in SS, the design is kinda timeless, don't mess with it....Well done Omega!

I presume you’re referring to the "No Time To Die" version as you mentioned the Milanese bracelet and being made of titanium. I love that watch! I COVET that watch!! I positively ACHE for that watch!!! But it’s clearly a sports watch. It might go with *some* suits but I certainly don’t own any suits of that type. But one thing is for sure; it would never go with evening wear (which I presume we're defining as after 6:00 pm formal wear). All that being said, if I actually OWNED that watch - like you do - I’d wear it with damn near everything! (But not a tuxedo.)

YES! I own a black dial SMP300, and also briefly owned the white dial. In black, I'd add that it's shockingly versatile (much more so than I expected), and while retaining a definite formidable presence can be surprisingly elegant and understated (for a dive watch, that is). As for the helium valve, personally, I love it, and along with the wave pattern dial on the current gen find those important design selections for a bit of sporty flare. They also significantly differentiate the SMP300 from the Sub, Superocean, GO, etc., etc. With those elements it's very much its own watch, whereas without them, in my mind it would be just kind of another standard diver. Of course, they're not for everyone, and for that reason I'd actually see the Seamaster 300 as having more potential to dress up a bit while leaving the sports to the SMP. As for the price-point, indeed, it's the king of $5k, and I find it interesting nobody else has really tried to make a go at $5k...

@@eyeheartsushi2212 Sure, I bought a brand new white dial SMP300 last year and enjoyed it for about three weeks until the date function began malfunctioning consistently at the same handful of dates (didn't clear up with full wind, cycling through a few times, etc). Ended up returning it. In some light settings the white dial pops like crazy in a good way, in other light settings it felt more like an unremarkable tool watch. I'm sure that a lot of people, like me, just cannot quite get on board with its 90s aesthetic. I want to like it but there's just something thats, 'off.' Its bracelet is especially strange: dated looking with no taper and an ugly clasp. It needs something more like a brushed Rolex Oyster bracelet, which is great. Subs and even their bracelets are just iconic, too, which is another reason to gravitate towards them. Having said this, I actually quite like the no date James Bond SeaMaster which has quite a number of small tweaks that improve it but unfortunately it's much too expensive for what it is.

As it has been previously commented here: The accuracy of the newest calibers of Omega is incredible. Worn on the wrist regularly, mine actually achieves +/- 0s per day, so I never have to re-adjust. I would love for Omega offer a version with a built in HEV or not at all. The 300 Heritage, is still my first choice, with an older 300M Pro, as well.(Looking online to pull the trigger at some point). I like a tapered bracelet, however, this bracelet is so striking and reviewers say its so comfortable and can live with it. I read a review of the 300MPro, and the reviewer said he did not like the Escape Value. He rationalized that he could pretend it was a remote detonator or a laser control. I would also.

Teddy is the James Bond of watch reviewers. This is a great watch, and worth saving up for. Watch collecting is a marathon, not a sprint.

Got mine back in April 2018 with 2500D movement inside. It was on transitions to the current newest movement, so I was offered pretty huge discounts. The black dial has deeper gloss compared to my Sub 41 No date. Perhaps due to its double AR coating.

Ive had my Seamaster 300 for 3 years now, and it is worn 100% of the time I am awake, in all conditions, and yet 7:18 is the first time i found out that the lume is actually a different colour on the minute hand. Now I know its there, its just about noticeable its a different colour, but outside of encasing the face entirely so the lume is the only light source, its pretty hard to tell in reality.
RE the helium escape valve - I got to use it once for its designed use case, while in a hypobaric decompression chamber. I have never used it while actually diving, there is absolutely no need for it for basically any diver. Beyond that one instance, i mostly just fiddle with it. Obviously its a staple of the watch's design, and to be honest having a staple like that is something that nearly all over dive watches lack, but functionally I don't think it needs it. This is even more true now than ever, as most divers going to any notable depth will replace an analogue watch is a wrist dive computer, meaning the only ones that would have needed it don't anymore. Aesthetically however, I absolutely do think it is important to keep.

Let’s be honest…… this thing beats the piss out of the Submariner (which is now grossly overpriced). The helium escapement valve doesn’t bother me, I prefer it with it actually, adds character to the watch.

I agree that the newer bond model feels more modern, as well as having a vintage appeal. The darker titanium case, the more minimal dial design and also no date combine to make it one hell of a design. Looks incredible on the nato too

Beautiful watch. Wears smaller than watch RUclips reviewers suggest. The colour change in different real life light conditions is wonderful and the hands & indices really catch the light.

You beat me to it as I was going to say exactly the same thing. I tried one on in London on Tuesday whilst wearing my Rolex Daytona and the size difference wasn’t huge. I’ve only got six inch wrists and the Seamaster fit perfectly.

The white dial on this watch is an absolute stunner 😮‍💨
Edit: Went with the blue dial on the bracelet yesterday, my first luxury watch! Was going white dial until I got an insane deal on the blue/bracelet.

Turned 49 and bought my Omega seamaster 300 in Black. Thought I would get the blue, but the black in person was fantastic. A local boutique offered no discount, bought mine from an AD, Jared Galleria in Columbus, OH with a 15% discount (ask for Enrique!). I love the bracelet with the micro-adjust.

Best dive watch for the price point.
For the last time, get over the helium escape valve. It's called a feature.

Agree completely with your comments on the rubber strap. Mine is on a black strap with blue accent down the center. Really complements the blue of the face while keeping the dive strap aspect of the piece. I love mine.

Great review. I actually just bought this exact watch (black dial version) because it’s so well-positioned in that price range. That said, I completely disagree with your take on the bracelet. It does look a bit 90s but I like how the center piece of the 5 piece design is a bit bigger, giving it a look somewhere in between a 5-piece and an oyster bracelet. I normally don’t like the 5-piece but it works on this watch. As for the 007 watch that Daniel Craig wears, total 🤮 on the bracelet. Absolutely hate the mesh bracelet and I think it totally ruins the watch. The clasp definitely has some presence but the micro adjustable slider is my favorite feature. It lets you get the perfect fit. I like my watch snug enough to not slide past my wrist bone but loose enough that it doesn’t cut off circulation or feel like it’s squeezing my wrist. This is the only watch I own that I’ve ever had the absolute perfect middle ground and it’s all thanks to that slider. If it’s hot outside and your wrist swells, just loosen it a notch or two. If you’re cold, do the opposite. It’s a very functional feature that I think far outweighs the negative aspect of the clasp being kind of big.

I have the Black version which I've purchased a little after it's launch and I'll never let it go. It's still my favorite watch in my collection. Although the bracelet is comfy especially with the quick adjust clasp, I just don't find aesthetically pleasing. It can be a bit too blingy and to me, it kind of takes the focal point away from the actual case. Purchased the OEM strap and it's been my perfect everyday watch since.

Nice. It’s funny I just got a black dial in bracelet (plus rubber strap) and am considering getting the blue one in the future which goes against my personal watch collecting philosophy of not owning two colors of the same watch LOL.

Bought this as my first luxury watch in January 2019. Exactly that model, blue. Will always keep it as it will always be my first. Love it, and I wear it with the bracelet, and ill switch it up with that blue rubber strap and the blue nato strap.

This was my first luxury watch purchase a few weeks ago (white face, black bezel) and the Omega salesman actually talked me into it over the Moonwatch. I couldn't be happier with my purchase and look forward to returning to the boutique in the future.

I had the first version of this which I bought in about 1995. I remember seeing it for the first time in a branch of Ernest Jones in London and falling in love with it. I still love the design although I've moved on from diver style watches. Personally I like the helium escape valve. It makes the watch stand out although, I prefer the earlier pre-toothpaste top version. I think and update could lose it completely though. Totally agree regarding the bracelet. I think something more simple, not as dressy and more sporty would be a step forward and make the piece look more modern. I much prefer the Omega to something like a Submariner which just looks like any generic dive watch. I had the bracelet and the original rubber strap which was a bit plain but the new rubber strap looks great. I've had Black Bay and it's not in the same league as the Omega. The finish was nowhere near as good and imho the co-axial movement is miles better.

The Black Bay is at a lower price point though, c.£1,800 less for the SS bracelet versions. I'd hope Omega makes a better watch for that kind of difference... Omega is really aiming to compete with Rolex and it's missing that mark by quite a wide margin. I quite like the most recent no-date James Bond SeaMaster and it has quite a number of little differences with the standard model but in general they're just a bit too 90s, particularly the odd bracelet. Just doesn't compete with Rolex's Oyster bracelet.

Just got one last month and I adore it. I originally was sure I wanted an Aqua Terra but when I tried the 300 on it just fit my wrist better.
