      It's not a NATO, it's a regimental strap. NATO's weren't invented until 1973, only in Admiralty Grey. It was used with both the Omega 300 and the Rolex 5517. The strap on the Rolex 6538 was probably used because it was supposedly Cubby Broccoli's personal watch with a leather strap and they needed something water proof. So no, the NATO isn't Omega's heritage, it's military. Bond in the novels wore a Rolex Explorer, most likely reference 6150. Flemming had this watch as his personal. Omega in Bond is purely product placement.

Now to be fair I admit I like Omega more than Rolex but it’s with good reason. I can go buy an Omega sea master brand new from a store for at the top dollar 8 grand, while with Rolex I can’t just buy one from the store and It’ll cost 10 grand and up (even if it’s a used one from another seller like yourself). While yes in the Bond Books Fleming notes Bond always wears a Rolex it was because at the time Rolex was a more affordable brand and since has become ridiculously expensive. The Omega for today is much closer to that of Rolex in the Bond Books, not to mention they have history supplying watches for the British Royale Navy (which if you don’t know is usually where James Started his training and life before joining MI6).

However, most importantly for me, they treat their customers with respect and care. I walked into a Rolex AD and drove up in a Porsche but was essentially laughed out of the store and not taken seriously at all when I asked for a black submariner. That day I went to the Omega dealer, and they didn’t have any clue to my income level (they are in a mall, so could not see my car) yet where extremely kind and helped me to understand exactly what I was looking for. They basically popularized the first proper automatic and waterproof wrist watches. They are the Fender for electric guitars and basses, simple and practical approach, overpriced and hyped today but with the most inconic designs and first popular products of the field.

      lol you said it, longer history than Rolex and yet they were struggling to survive in the past and forced into becoming subsidiary of Swatch. That explains a lot. They released a half hearted design by putting a watch into another water resistance case in 1932, to me that design was sorta a mockery to Rolex from Omega as a giant watch marker at the time, belittling Rolex’s effort to create a watch that works in water. Fast forward to modern day, Omega is struggling to overtake Rolex in the industry, karma is indeed a B.

    Nico clearly doesn't know the story of the strap on the Rolex. Firstly it isn't a NATO like you see on the Omega, it's an RAF strap. NATO straps didn't exist then. Secondly, that strap was actually too small for the watch at 16mm wide and not 20mm, it belonged to a member of the production team, Rolex didn't invent the NATO or the RAF strap, so no Omega didn't copy it. It's a military strap, they were developed by the UK Ministry of Defence.

      Bond wore a Rolex back in the day because it was the "everyperson's luxury", or the premium tool watch of the time. These days, Rolex has moved upmarket (and their quality is also higher, admittedly) and Omega fits that role more. In the modern day, it makes more sense for Bond to wear Omega.

    • @sylinmino
      @sylinmino 2 года назад

      @@freedmfe8934 I'm not even a Rolex fan, I own zero and I own one Omega, and that's just not true. Rolex has tighter accuracy window, makes thinner watches even with movements with higher beat rates and power reserves, way better bracelets, precious metal usage even on their SS watches, better unisex sizing options, and 100m chronographs that aren't sized super large (like the Seamaster Chrono). Master Chronometer is the one thing it has over Rolex, but it's fancy marketing terminology for something Rolex is already doing like 90% of anyway.

    • @sylinmino
      @sylinmino 2 года назад

      @@freedmfe8934 don't say completely and utterly untrue and then the first thing you mention is wrong. Co-axial's biggest strength is supposed to be its long service intervals, but even with that boost Omega's service interval is (don't get me wrong, an impressive) 8 years. Rolex's is 10. The accuracy is worse--Omega's rating is 0 to +5, a 5 second window. Rolex's is -2 to +2, a 4 second window. Same quality of case is dependent on what you're looking for--316L is harder but 904L has a brighter luster and is more corrosion resistant. Dial quality is debatable--ceramic with laser etching is great but Rolex lacquer is really nice and rich, even on their plain black dials (I've compared it to my Omega with a black dial, it's night and day). Bezel is just untrue--Omega is ceramic with enamel lettering, Rolex is ceramic with platinum lettering. Bracelets are not close--Rolex bracelets are proportioned at the lugs better (they get the 2 to 1 ratio better which results in a less wobbly wear), they're better finished on all components, and they more consistently come from quick adjustment systems across the models.
      Design being associated with those groups is subjective.
      And I already said I'm not a Rolex fanboy. I own a Speedy Pro and zero Rolexes, and my favorite brands are Cartier and Grand Seiko. No Rolex fanboyism here.

    Funny, my watchmaker (40 years in the business) who is certified Rolex told me to buy Rolex to impress your friends, buy an Omega if you want accurate time.

    Omega treats its customers better than Rolex treats its customers . Omega movements are on par if not, better than Rolex offerings .

    Ouuu! Weird! In the trailer I watched there was an omega advert! Q was presenting Bond with the watch, and James Bond was like, "How tough is it?!" and then there's explosives and close ups of the Omega, and then Q is like "pretty tough!".

    8:22 the strap on the Omega is not the same strap worn by Connery in one of the first Bond movies. Connery actually wore what we call a vintage Bond strap with the black, red and olive green color scheme. You can even see it in this footage, if you look closely that the strap isn’t just black and gray like the regular Bond strap. Due to the color correction done in post edit the vintage Bond strap looked black and gray in the movie, which gave birth to the Bond strap. In other words, the regular Bond strap has nothing to do with Rolex!

    Fun fact: James Bond movies feature a lot of product placement (watches, cars, wardrobe, etc.), to an extent, where they often finance the movie completely before it even hits theaters. However, because of the pandemic, the products that were featured, were already released while the movie was still delayed. This led to a lot of reshoots, just because of the product placement.

    You can bash on Omega All day long because it doesn't make any profit for you at the secondary market.. Stop thinking like profit all the time. Omega is an older brand they make fantastic watches for the money the current Seamaster > Submariner and most importantly.. Omega has become what Rolex was 20 years ago. A great watch for the PEOPLE

    Apart from the justified criticism already made by other commenters, the Timothy Dalton movie with the 16610 you guys showed isn't the Living Daylights but License to Kill. Bit of a blunder in your research there guys.
    Also i'd like to add that, when Ian Fleming wrote the novels in the 50s to the early 60s, a Rolex was a rugged toolwatch, not a pompous piece of precious metal adorned compensation for guys that are going bald. Adjusted for inflation, a Rolex cost about 1k$, so a Seiko diver or maybe a low-midtier swiss watch would probably be the best match for the character today.
