Beryll O Mara suddenly declared war on me and crushed me on my first campaign playthrough. On my second playthrough, I buy all of her shares, which made me get up to 300K of income, then, when she declare war on me, I immediately buy all of her big islands. and left her with 1 small island to remind herself how not to mess with me. lol.
I consider myself pretty adept at Anno 1800 but still find myself watching all your guide videos in case I missed a detail. Love that you're so thorough and always think of new ways to provide a service to the community. Highly commendable!
Was running around with beryl behind my back for months now. I should have checked this video out sooner. Thank you, will start over with a fresh game which will help me build, manage, enjoy and relax while being at it.
Im pretty much a veteran player of the Anno 1800 games but I still struggle to make money in mid to late game (when electricity arrives) but going back to even this early stage is very useful. I may start on the easier settings again and re-build confidence. Very useful video :)
Thank you so much! I always learn something from you. These are the settings I use, only I turn off pirates. And I selected Willy. I didn’t know you could have less then 3 AI!
Thank you for another very helpful new person video. When I finally get this game I have an already written down check list of do’s and don’ts and wants for my basic learning game(s). I’ve also been following many of the European players and find their different styles very interesting. Particularly going back to the very beginning and watching as they learn the game from ‘beta’. Thank you for all the time you put in teaching of the nuances to this massive game.
You just described my beryl adventure in this video. I was new to anno and she was annoying. I got into a war with her cause of wibblesock. And she literally started destroying me. I was drowning in money and due to war. But an easy fix was i started blowing her trade cargo ships. Especially those carrying valuable material. For example new world trade or trade between her big island. That gave me bulbs, gold etc valuable items to sell and make a ton of money. I used those to buy her island out and get her under control. Further it is also advisable to keep an eye on Wibblesock who is fighting her. Loot any ships that drops items. Including Wibblesock and sell those items or store them and use it to buy her out. When buying her island out keep a ship nearby to pick up the drops and store them and them sell those to make ton of cash. And purchase shares Use her big island shares and other shares of AI to keep income around 20K and invest the money in more shares. I did that and thats how i controlled beryl Ching and wibblesock shares were life saver and boost to income. Another tip for money that atleast i found on my own was that keep check on items sold by other AI who you have trade agreement. For example fur coats. Buy those and sell to kahina. Kahina pays double triple the amount. It is pure profit. You can do this trick with items which are red for other trade AI like archie, kahina, pirates etc.
Yes but a lot of that stuff you just described takes a lot of time to learn and you have been playing for a little while now. My suggestions here are really directed at brand new players who are struggling to get anything under control and want to sit back with no stress or anxiety, what you already said you had, so they can learn the mechanics.
@@TakaRUclips yep I learnt them all on my own trial and error. Gave up a few times in between. Was really done with the game. I felt so bad. But i tried again and again then learnt.
I 100% did a Normal game as my first game, went in blind. I was oblivious to the AI difficulties, and Beryl annihilated the other two AIs but loved me.

It's a really awesome game. The first of the Anno franchise I've tried and I LOVE IT! I just hope and pray that they don't ruin it like what seems to happen to every game I fall in love with eventually.....
I can agree that 1800 seems more available for so many simply by looking at the difference in the number of mods! lol I have been trying 2205 too just in the last few days, and even the wiki is entirely barebones. Someone spent time to set up a wiki, but that was all they had the heart to do. re: the two AI's you mentioned not expanding without your permission, well . . . they do indeed by some wicket I don't know. Beryl got me on my first play through, but the second one I ended up just keeping all shares of her best island, bought the rest of her islands, and just blockading that last one so she wouldn’t touch my trade routes. That one island is giving me +$70k income and it’s very useful for building up my economy without going in red.
So I'm playing my campaign, and helplessy lost, then around hour 20 started watching your videos and begin making improvements. I messed up and picked normal. Honestly of you just make 6 gunboats and park them outside of the pirates island in the old world they will only send out a pirate ship or two at a time. And usually the hard AI loves when you destroy pirate ships. Plus you can get a lot of good goods and specialists early in the game that will really help you. Plus like I said the hard AI will love you. Pirates are great for farming specials... Rum... Gold... Advanced and regular weapons. And after you farm for a while you can make friends with them whenever you want with diplomacy.

I don't think high incidents change the frequency of the bad things happening. It changes the size of the incidents. Bigger fires and more houses that get sick. Thank you very much. Really appreciate this. Since you are more engaged with Ubisoft, do you know what's going on with the new settlers game? will you play that too when its out?
SOME PROBLEM WITH EASIER CHARACTERS: “they will never expand without your permission” like a year ago I made a game with those 3, worked as you mention, but after many hours of gameplay, Bente started to settle without asking, I just heard a notification like “a competitor just settled on an island” or something. I thought at first I missed something or the asking window, but started to happen 2 3 times and more… I read others happening the same so it’s not I missed something, I don’t know if it’s a glitch or works as intended, but what is going on? Since then I would like other player just to make it slightly more interesting but I hate AI expanding, so I don’t want to ruin my game after many many hours for this.
Just turn the AI off, either enemies as well as Pirates. I have 50h in game, I have bought it hmm I think just after the release and I am still noob and didn't discover even every basic. I have started a new game with no AI enemies and Pirates just to chill out and learn the game once for all and later I will master everything. The game is pure gold, one of the best purchases I have ever done.
It's actually better to have at least one AI, like Bente, because she will give you quests for quite a bit of money and some nice items as well as randomly giving you large amounts of cash. Very very helpful for new players that might be struggling with money.
Thank Covid for the success of home-games that require a longer attention-span than what a mouse has. After they burn through all the cheap "pay to play" or "free games"... They funnel into the games which those free game concepts were stolen from. Limiting the addition of DLC into the game, is just stupid. It's not about "ability", because they can obviously add it. They just said "Nah... we don't want you to, so you can't, later-on."
Those two AI's you suggest drive me nuts after trying various AI combos I have found Hunt, Smith and the Fat Baron a good combo. As they tend to fall out with each other and Smith tend to be good for trading and more on your side early on. Hunt also comes round once you get your title at Crown Falls leaving the Baron but he gradually weakens as he is picked on by Smith and Hunt.
The combination of AIs I suggest are the easiest AIs and are the simplest to get along with which is why I suggest them for brand new players. They won't expand without your permission, it's almost impossible to piss them off enough to go to war, and they give you money for everything.
I did report those when this game came out, but Ubisoft want proof, I showed to them, and why it's normal level beryl mara shouldn't be in normal, butBente Jorgensen should be in normal level, but I guess my report to error got ignored since they didn't answer back and didn't said why this designed it.
Just play expert for 1st in all the game. So the game will kick all shit to your face and you will learn fast. Playing in normal or easy is wasting your time. In Anno 1800, AI normal vs expert is huge change, make we change the meta.
Many people don't play to have a challenge versus AI or the game mechanics. There was a poll recently and out of a thousand or so votes... Like 3% said they played for a hard challenge. Most were focused on either building nice looking cities or interested in the mathematics of running an efficient city.
Beryl is so annoying with the "Beryl Take's a Slice" Qing actually started a war with me for newspaper propaganda, she gives major negative relations for propaganda my first play through. The war is pretty lacking to be nice about it. You basically have to crush your opponent before they will accept a cease fire. Then that AI will be picked on the rest of your game by the other two. Willi sky drops your cities with propaganda even with a non aggression pact , this has to be a permanent bug?
My issue is not the start but the end game. There are too many resources that need to be ship around the map. Connecting your cities via trade is not intuitive. It's too much. This game gives me anxiety. I wish once I had the island and the resource, it would just show up on my main island.
Looks like 2205 could be the game for you. All trades are automized there, controlled just by moving a slider. It's a good game too, though I prefer the stressful logistics monsters like 1800 or 2070.
@@TakaRUclips Not at all. Words have meanings and should be chosen and used so that their meaning reflects what we are trying to communicate accurately to avoid confusion in spoken or written conversation. One is simply correct and one is simply incorrect. The term "semantics" is generally used by one who has misspoken and is unwilling to admit it for some strange, unfathomable reason.

I will never understand why Beryl O'Mara (advanced difficulty) is in normal settings and Bente Jorgensen (normal) is in advanced settings
I did report those when this game came out, but Ubisoft want proof, I showed to them, and why it's normal level beryl mara shouldn't be in normal, butBente Jorgensen should be in normal level, but I guess my report to error got ignored since they didn't answer back and didn't said why this designed it.
@@2009Wanderer hm I think its more Normal has two easy and one advance ai. Advance has 1 easy ai and two advance Ais.
BRING BACK DISASTER SERIES
Just play expert for 1st in all the game. So the game will kick all shit to your face and you will learn fast. Playing in normal or easy is wasting your time. In Anno 1800, AI normal vs expert is huge change, make we change the meta.
Many people don't play to have a challenge versus AI or the game mechanics. There was a poll recently and out of a thousand or so votes... Like 3% said they played for a hard challenge. Most were focused on either building nice looking cities or interested in the mathematics of running an efficient city.
For novices i recommend the campaing ^^
You didn't play this GAME as a child. You played this SERIES as a child.
Semantics!!
I mean I know that of course... Yes I misspoke and I was joking around when I said semantics. Most people know what I meant. It's easy to misspeak when you're trying to talk a lot for an hour 😉
@@TakaRUclips Obviously I knew what you meant, and of course it's easy to misspeak. I never said otherwise.

Reason why i went to customs after beryl non stop attacked me because i allied with willie the weasel. Not a difficult choice.
