  • Hello everyone, happy new year and welcome to 2024! I thought what better way to start the year then to talk about how my American original Stratocaster holds up after one year. How do you guys like the better lighting in this video? I'm trying to improve (:

Those american original are fantastic guitars. I had a 50's Telecaster. About the sticky neck, yes for me was an issue. There is just something about fender usa (not custom shop) nitro that is kind of sticky. Gibson doesnt happen the stickiness to me and Ive had multiple gibsons.
Still a fantastic guitar. If you are ok with that or you clean it often, then you are good. I dont like to worry constantly on that myself hehe.
I did have a strat original 60's as well. Didnt had many issues with that one though, so seems the stickiness in the fretboard area bothered me more than the back.

I love the story of how you got this guitar. You did the right thing getting this. I have the two color sunburst. Vintage tuners are the best tuners in my opinion.
    Strat vocabulary:
    truss “rod”
    “deck” the bridge

I had this guitar for 2 years, the nitro is pretty annoying. Apart from the stickyness, the nitro peels off under the back plate when you tighten the truss rod. I do not recomend nitro at all unless it is worn out.

On the sticky neck there is a middle ground, you dont have to sand it down to bare wood. I’ve had success using a Scotch Brite pad to just dull down that neck gloss a bit. Nothing extreme, just put it in your hand and move your hand up and down the neck in the playing position. It wont have that cheap sanded look and it feels great for a long time. You may have to do it again months later

the stickyness will stop when you wear down the finish a bit, thats why i love relics, it's already done and its so smooth and satin

Good to know! The stickyness isn't that big of a deal to me, but it's nice to know that it will soften up over time.

as others mentioned - sticky neck is just question of time it will pass.. nitro needs some time to get hardened.. I have the very same model and color (love the ash and see-thru blonde finish) and my guitar used to be sticky - not just the neck, also body. I alway got some soft cloth and started to wipe - especially the neck. like trying to polish it until it got pretty warm.. not the neck is like glass - nitro is still there but it is not soft anymore. and I'm not taking care of the lacquer at all. just playing it. and no sticky neck at all. same with my AO 60's tele

Or you can sand down the neck to get that lacquer off. I used to wash my hands constantly but I have sweaty hands so that didn't work very well. Then I tried a little baby or talcum powder on my left hand and that works pretty good. But I got tired of that too.
