This movie was fantastic! This is a testament to James Gunn's vision and his ability to tell a complete story. The High Evolutionary to me is the 2nd best villain in the MCU next to Thanos. I didn't expect the ending we got, but glad the door has been left open.
Peter and Gamora broke me man! Heart wrenching for Peter to have the love of his life back after dying but it’s not really her. They handled it perfectly. The closure was realistic and needed

I really didn’t think I could like Rocket more but this movie really solidified him as one of my favourites of the Guardians team. When Lylla stops him, man I was starting to really tear up.
Once peter's face started to bloat ,I was like star-lord was gonna die just for retrieving that bloody zune. Also that would have been such a star-lord way to go out.
I really did not expect this film to hit me the way it did. This film for me is the perfect example of how a final installment can elevate the prev work to damn near perfection. There’s so much to this film to mention that just gave me emotions of sadness/joy simultaneously that I can’t mention them all. Even the epic ending fight scene when all the Guardians fought the High Evolutionary was emotional for me. This film is also a great example of how to raise the stakes w/o having to kill off a main character. For me having each character go in on him was them fighting in retaliation to what he did to Rocket and others like him. There’s so much more I’d mention but I’ll end it by saying 3 things: “Lyllah, Teefs, Floor, Rocket,” “Sky,” & “Rocket THE RACCOON!”
Well, after seeing it yesterday with friends and family, we all loved it! The hype for once is correct - best Marvel movie since Endgame. I see some complaining about the ending, but I found it bold and brave, not having a totally happy ending. Very different film, and my favorite of the three.
Just watched it (last week its in theaters). Whenever tough guys get emotional (like Punisher ), it makes me tear up. Rocket's backstory is stuck in my head and I can't help feel depressed.
My favorite theme of the film was learning to accept what people can do and take what they do have to offer instead of focusing on things/characteristics they don't have. That scene where Mantis tells Nebula about why Drax matters or rocket saying high evolutionary just hated things the way they were.
Solid review. As for Warlock. In the comics and I know this may not matter but he started out as a unknowing child also called Him. So that really was similar in some ways to his origin.
I love this movie. Since this is a spoiler review, here are my spoiler thoughts: Even nobody dies in this movie, I cried like 4 or 5 times. Stakes are so high and You really believe anyone can die at any moment. I never hated villain so much like in this movie, I wanted him to suffer so bad, which is a great for villain of course. Score was a little bit dissapointing for me, but it has probably best sction sequence in all Marvel movies. This movie is also probably darkest MCU movie, especially because of the things that are done to poor animals. I am also glad when stakes are high and scenes are emotional, there is no humor to ruin it like in Thor 4. I can't wait to watch it again, I would give it 9/10 for now

Absolutely loved the movie. It tied everyone's story up so well and was just overall really satisfying. The High Evolutionary is without a doubt a top 3 MCU villain, he really chewed the scenery perfectly, it really just makes me more excited to see what Gunn does with Superman and the villains for that movie. Definitely the best MCU movie since No Way Home.
It was just the greatest Marvel experience ever. I cried 5 times I cheered 7 or more so. Love the Dolby seats and respectable audience I had. What a ride and cute Rocket Raccoon popcorn bins. Adam Warlock was def a powerful MVP. I felt for him more than I did the last 4 movies. Great Spoiler review Harloff.
Last thing I want to mention and I think they did it in this movie too, but it was the earth cultural (specifically the music) in Quill’s mix tape that unlocked Gamora’s humanity. Frequent and renewed exposure with the other tapes allowed her to become a different person. That kinda showed in this last movie she heard some earth music and started to change. Was really hoping that dropped iPod Qwill saved was gonna be for her. Would have guaranteed another movie. At this point they gave her and him and easy out, have to hope Gamora and Qwill get an alternative resolution.
I loved this movie so much. This wraps up what I think is the greatest trilogy in the MCU. My only issue is that I’m nervous about what they’re going to do with Star Lord without James Gunn attached. He just has such a deep understanding of that character.

I cried so many times!!! Not many movies can do that to me. I'm super impressed by this movie. I don't want the MCU to be Connected anymore. To Quote Syndro from The Incredibles " Everyone will have super powers everyone will be super. And with Everyone super...know one will be" Still rings true to this day for the MCU. James Gun has made alot of characters super but he also gives them great character development. He also sets up moments and pays them off later!!! This movie feels like there were actual stakes for our heros.
I also think it’s my favorite guardians movie. Gunn did a great job on balancing all of the emotions and characters in this one. I wish Adam Warlock was handled better tbh.
@@metallicnole4514 To me yes. No way home did not have the emotional impact that this movie had. Yes no way home had nostalgia but this one had deep emotions that I didn’t necessarily feel with no way home. I will rewatch this movie way more than no way home as part of the guardians trilogy.
I Love This Movie, Very Somber and Bittersweet they stepped up the action in a big way and the emotional beats hit, and the villain was completely unhinged and I Loved It and the Hallway scene was CRAZY what they did with Nebula Was Simply Amazing 👏🏽 I’m stuck between 1 and 3 as My Favorite
Really liked it. It's definitely my favorite of the 3 Guardians movies. Not as in love with the High Evolutionary as a lot of others seem to be. Adam Warlock should have been fleshed out more and made the main villain.
My wife and I saw it yesterday. I didn’t love the first half, but it came together in the 2nd. We had a nice time out together. Always nice to hear your thoughts Harloff.
Regarding new - groot being “groots” child. That was basically James Gunns way of trying to legitimize his death in the 1st movie without saying it was a “fake death” or a resurrection like the MCU has done countless times and his excuse is “well he did really die, it’s his son”. We all know it was a fake death and that’s okay.
I loved the movie! they way Gunn was able to give each character a moment in some way was awesome and satisfying. Rockets story was fantastic and hits you right in the feels, I'm even more exited for superman, it seems like Gunn is just getting better with his scripts and direction.
I watched the movie with three generations of my family including my 78 years old mother and we all loved the movie and my mother love it even more for the music.
I really liked the Movie. I was close to tears at times. My two gripes, I would have liked to know more about high evolutionary, yes I suppose I could read the comics but often the comics and movies Are different. Also I just did a guardians 1 rewatch and when Quill’s mom dies there Are many people in the hospital room. I assumed they were cousins, and other family. Yet here he only has a grandad. I did like that at the end his grandad is alive and it is not him finding an empty house and a gravestone.
Personally, I’ve not been emotionally invested in an MCU piece since Infinity War/Endgame. Phase Four just didn’t do it for me, so I was really hoping for this to, at the very least, be entertaining. Oh boy, did it exceed my hopes. This was amazing. I laughed, I cried and punched the air several times during the final battle. The frustrating thing is that it’s the last time we get any Marvel from James Gunn and I wonder how they maintain this standard going forward without him. It *does* justify my excitement at his running DC, though.
I’m glad people are enjoying the film. I went into it with a lacklustre attitude and low expectations but absolutely loved it. It was emotional, weird, deep. They are ended each characters arc perfectly. They didn’t overdue the comedy in the wrong moments. Got a sickening villain. The film took risks and I loved it. So much better than expected
The High Evolutionary's yelling made sense to me because when you think about everything be did, he seemed like an abuser. He even did things that could be taken as nice--like when he showed Rocket the sky. Abusers do nice things sometimes that you think are benefitting you, but they're really benefiting them. Then when the victim does something that's seemingly little, the abuser freaks out on everybody and starts yelling. They feel like the reason something didn't work out for them is because someone else (usually the victim) messed things up, not themselves. Then when something bothers the person, or people, they'e abusing, they mock and undermine that person's feelings--acting like the victim's the emotional one (when Rocket was sad about his friend). He definitely seemed like a true abuser to me. He acted calm enough for people to let their guards down and trust him, but angry enough for them all to be manipulated into giving him what he wanted, then broken and confused once finally realizing his true nature. He even needed a whole planet for people to put him on a pedestal (the statue/dolls), but because nothing he does is based on anything truly good for anyone else, only himself, he's never truly happy (hence exhibiting the uncontrolled anger). And his need to be THE Guy, his ego won't allow him to live peacefully with the idea that something, or someone, lower than him did something that he couldn't.
Loved it hard. So hard. As both a farewell to the Guardians and my farewell to the MCU. I really wanted to leave the franchise on a high, and I can't imagine a better one. I loved how Groot was the first to follow Rocket when he went to confront the high evolutionary. The teasing of Star-Lord and Nebula maybe having feelings for each other. The chemistry of Drax and Mantis and the whole guard scene. Hilarious. Cosmo being SO upset with being called a bad dog by Kragglin. Rocket accepting what he is. Peter and Gamora's scenes, all of them. Nathan Fillion's amazing cameo. The list goes on.
I loved this movie too!! I thought I would be more emotional over the Layla, Floor and Teefs scene and I was like wow I actually didn’t cry. But those last like 45 minutes. OMG. I was a hot mess.
When I heard this would have the first F-Bomb I was worried it would be for shock value alone, but when we got it in the car it caught me totally off guard and was really funny. I think the Adam Warlock scenes had enough to make sense and it sets him up within the guardian's world, but I feel it was done in such a way that also leaves him fairly untouched for another story and writer/director to shape into the character we are expecting, especially as we know that won't be Gunn. Excited to see what Poulter will do with this character.
What I find really encouraging going into Gunn’s Superman movie is that he knows how to write likable characters and he always puts a lot of heart into his movies. He knows how to balance tone really well, and can make a movie that may have some dark moments, but still finds a way to pull at your heart strings and make you feel good by the end. My only worry is that he makes Superman into too much of a comedy. Every James Gunn movie I’ve seen has had that signature James Gunn style that I feel could clash with Superman’s character. But I feel like he’s good enough of a writer and director to know what will work for Superman, and this could be a chance for him to really push himself and show how talented he is as a filmmaker. I really feel like he’s gonna nail the Clark Kent part of Superman, which I hope we see more of a focus on in his movie. That human element is always what has made Superman a much more likable character for me, and I feel like it’s been largely ignored in recent years. And that’s where I could really see Gunn’s comedic style flourishing- with how Clark’s coworkers interact with him, and how he experiences the world as Clark Kent. And then seeing that juxtaposed with his other life as Superman, where I’m hoping a lot of the heart in Gunn’s writing will shine through. I’m really curious to see how it turns out. I feel like Gunn wouldn’t have done it unless he had a really good idea for the story, so I have hope.
It’s the best Chris Pratt has been for a long time. He gets a lot of hate, and yeah he’s not the greatest actor of all-time! But he’s been really good as Quill and he nailed it with the emotion in this one.
Could’ve done without the screaming child behind me but other than that, it’s REALLY GOOD. The beastie boys stitched Oner was 🔥🔥🔥🔥. Also was reading through the cast list during the credits (because Gunn loves to throw cameos in the most obscure places). Cool to see Tiffany Smith in there, also one of the most unexpected cameos: Pete Davidson 🤣 (plays two characters one of which he was in a suit and had no lines).
I like the sounds of the movie in tne theater with the space crafts or ships making crash landings also buildings, the pulsating crunches and booms that you hear with the sound is incredible and satisfying in the theater
I've seen it a few times now, i agree about it being the best of the 3. A lot of it has to do with Gunns ability to flashback the story and build the Rocket story. Also my main issue with the first is Ronin was pretty much wasted. I think that can be attributed to have more time and less of a leash to story tell. I'm not as big of a fan as most of Gunns Suicide Squad, i do love peacemaker though.
It killed me when I realised all his batch 89 friends died. The trailers made it seem like he had reunited with Lyla, but then u realise that it was all just his memories and they all died. That had me ugly crying. But I loved the "good dog/bad dog" gag lol. That was hilarious that even as a higher level life form, cosmo would still take offense to that 😂.
Fantastic movie. I think one of my favorite parts of this movie was a part that I was the most worried out going in which was how they handled the Peter and Gamora relationship. I think the easy thing to do would have been to take the they fall in love again because they were always meant to be trope which is overdone. I like though that they really showed she’s a different Gamora and the original Gamora was a product of her experiences with the Guardians and that’s how they fell in love in the first movie.
I saw this movie twice and it gets better every time I watch it it's very emotional and has tons of heart and laughs with great action scenes, but the only thing I didn't like in this movie was the music choices I think vol 1 and vol 2 have the best songs and music in my opinion this movies songs and score didn't hit it for me that's the only thing I didn't like along with Adam Warlock I thought he was going to have more a big role in the movie, but he didn't and I feel like their just setting him up for future projects with the new Guardians team. The High Evolutionary is a great villain I would put him on my list as my #3 favorite villain of all 32 MCU movies. James Gunn did a great job doing the Guardians movies each movie had an arc and it worked. I was very surprised that they gave us the new Guardians team and that Quill is back on earth and that he's coming back I hope they explain why he's back. I put this movie as my # 4 favorite MCU movie of all 32 movies I liked it a little bit better than Infinity War.
Love the recap, if I had one question for James Gunn it would be is their a cutting room floor scene written for when HE(High Evolutionary) yells about Rocket being a nothing compared to him and Rocket maybe reidiertiing what Lila said about it being rockets story. And HE is not the replacement for God but only a character in Rockets story.
Perfect video opening. I feel like Gunn is one of those directors like Paul thomas Anderson where we can see them grow literally after each project. I think guardians was so enjoyable for me because of his recent dc work, changing up and evolving his writing and it shows on his work. He’s becoming a master.
I went in expecting/dreading to see excessive animal torture. According to some reviews it was almost unbearable. I thought it was done very tastefully. Just enough to make you hate the villain but not so much that you have to look away from the screen.
I saw this on a lazy Sunday and it was pretty good. I liked it, didn’t love it. I would definitely recommend it to friends but I think some have overhyped it a bit. This was a good send off to the Guardians we’ve come to know and love.
If there's one piece of music that absolutely threw me off, it's the Vocaloid song. I was laughing because I was like "Wait, is that Hatsune Miku???" then I saw Bandai-Namco on the credits.
How did nobody die?! All I heard promoting this movie was 1-3 of them die. Dave Bautista never returning; he’s dead. I feel like misinformation was put out their hype campaign and I’m am pleasantly surprised. Thank you.
I loved the movie I'm going to start off with that. But I do have a question...now I'm a big trailer person. Don't care what they show because I'm there regardless. But listening I know you have your prbs with trailers. When it comes to this movie, going back and looking at the trailers...they showed too much. And I was in the theater waiting for certain stuff...what makes certain trailers worth being talked about negativity opposed to others? Sorry for the long question.
My ranking of Guardians of the Galaxy Movie: -Vol 2. - 9/10 -Vol 3 - 8/10 -Vol 1 - 6/10 It's a really strong trilogy. I think Vol 2 is just almost perfect. Vol 3 didn't quite reach that, but it's really fantastic. The reason Vol 1 is so low ranked is because there's no MANTIS. MANTIS automatically gets you to at least a 7/10.
I let myself get caught up in the mixture of reviews of well this or that, this was ok, but that wasn't and so I put Guardians 3 on the back burner. I watched it this morning, and I hate myself for not seeing it sooner. I would of like to of scene more of Adam Warlock, didn't quite like the manchild they have made him into. However, I also see this could just the starting off point for him. Maybe he grows into something more. That intrigues me. Rocket's story is amazing, and when the guardians learn of it, what Nebula says it breaks your heart. I loved this film as I have all three, but like Kristian says the balance in it all, and closer the team seem to get really made me love this movie that much more.
Didn't like it at all. So disappointing. Overly sentimental. These stories don't work for me without something high stakes in parallel, like the Ronin/Thanos stuff in volume 1.
I actually liked these movies in reverse order. 3 is the best 2 is second best and I've always just been like warm on part one. Anyhow, this is this year's Maverick, you're invested start to finish and you'll cry every time you see it. Now I remember why we loved marvel movies to begin with.
I think the marvels might (hopefully) be the last movie with latter phase 4 vibes were humor is a priority over story and character, New world order is after that and hopefully they enough time to learn from this film
I guess I’ll be the negative one. I gave the movie a solid B. I liked it. Didn’t love it. Wanted to like 1&2 But you cannot ignore certain issues. First off of course I teared up with all the Rocket experimentation and fellow cell mates. I mean how could you not. But the story was a mixed bag. Rocket was hanging on by a thread they spend half the movie looking for a code. You then get manipulated into thinking he was gonna die then doesn’t and is 100% in 20 seconds. Storyline over. But now let’s go into battle where I could die. And watching Peter literally die and then in 10 secs not die was manipulation at its worst. It seems as if James Gunn wanted characters to die but marvel executives stepped in and said nope. Even Drax just shaking off massive shots to the chest which is fine if you didn’t have him look mortally wounded right before. Someone should have gone and I think the film would have been much better if any one or two of them did. Instead of being manipulated to a point where I said “Come on.” PS. Also his worst music choices of all three volumes.
For me, I didn’t like the happy ending on how everyone survived. I would’ve been super emotional towards the film if a couple of the guardians of galaxy members had die. For example, they should’ve kills off draxx the destoryer, mantis, and nebula or star-lord. But once again marvel played it safe. I still love the first guardians of the galaxy movie out of the whole trilogy series. Also I think guardians of galaxy vol. 2 was more emotional than vol.3 in my opinion.
This stand alone movie is in my all time MCU top 5. And GOTG is a solid contender for best MCU trilogy. They gave each Guardian space, time, and growth. My personal MVP was Nebula… no, Mantis… no, Drax… no, All Of Them! Five stars. But, in the end… Rocket! 😢😢😢
This movie was fantastic! This is a testament to James Gunn's vision and his ability to tell a complete story. The High Evolutionary to me is the 2nd best villain in the MCU next to Thanos. I didn't expect the ending we got, but glad the door has been left open.

The Zarg nuts bit is even better when you consider the holiday special
love drax. Thats why he so goofy.the way he is, because hes a dad. the kid bring balance to him
What a wonderful and thorough story from the first film through the credits of #3. Gunn’s touch with this franchise was a work of art.
I agree. This one was definitely better than the first one. Glad you said it. Everyone else is afraid to admit it.
Man I loved this movie so damn much!
Never thought in a million years I’d say this but rocket may be the third best marvel character behind cap and Tony
Adam’s “don’t be rash” got the biggest laugh from me
Agree 100%! I loved this movie. The guardians movies embody team and family to me. I hope X-men takes a few pages from them!
I dont think he was yelling as much as ppl have been saying. When he did yell, I could understand it.
Yeah, people said he was shreiky so I was expecting more than what he actually did lol
Saw it tonight! I havent cried like this in an MCU film since Endgame. Cant wait to see what Gunn brings to DC.
The woman Quill was trying to charm in that Orgosphere plot that was Ratcatcher from James Gunn's Suicide Squad right?
Also the Zobileezoo add in reference got me 😂
I saw this movie twice and it gets better every time I watch it it's very emotional and has tons of heart and laughs with great action scenes, but the only thing I didn't like in this movie was the music choices I think vol 1 and vol 2 have the best songs and music in my opinion this movies songs and score didn't hit it for me that's the only thing I didn't like along with Adam Warlock I thought he was going to have more a big role in the movie, but he didn't and I feel like their just setting him up for future projects with the new Guardians team.
I'm pretty sure Guardians 3 was written almost a full year before The Suicide Squad, and Peacemaker.
Marvel said were still going to use Gunn's script after he was fired back in 2018.
I gotta tell ya man. You’re right on. Didn’t disagree with one Take.
That Ship really did take a LONG TIME to blow up!
I think it might be the best of the 3. 2 is really good too though.
Yes I felt the same way, I feel that some of the Disney kids movies have some dark tone like this one in some ways.
Felt like toy story amped up to Pg-13
I saw this on a lazy Sunday and it was pretty good. I liked it, didn’t love it. I would definitely recommend it to friends but I think some have overhyped it a bit. This was a good send off to the Guardians we’ve come to know and love.
TIFFANY SMITH IS IN A GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 9yrs later, wild and good for her
My favorite since Endgame, maybe even since Infinity War!
Ha! Zoobiliee Zoo!! I loved that show as a kid!! That absolutely was the look of those animal people!!
Thank you.
It's also my favorite. And I love all the GOG movies.
My ranking of Guardians of the Galaxy Movie:
-Vol 2. - 9/10
-Vol 3 - 8/10
-Vol 1 - 6/10
It's a really strong trilogy. I think Vol 2 is just almost perfect. Vol 3 didn't quite reach that, but it's really fantastic. The reason Vol 1 is so low ranked is because there's no MANTIS. MANTIS automatically gets you to at least a 7/10.
Man my ranking is the exact opposite lol
@@jstone8402 the MANTIS disrespect…smh
I've seen this movie 3 times. Old school marvel goodness. CGI War old school fantastic
Great review and video, KH
Interesting, I think it was my least favorite of the Guardians. Goota rewatch Vol 2 though
I just got out of the theater and man I loved it so, so much.
The “We Are Groot!” Fake out from the trailer. It didn’t happen.
So no one noticed the disconnection with Rocket and Drax? Did I miss something? Are they not cool at all?
The Good Dog joke was the best.
hoping with Starlord... they introduce Kitty Pryde as the Captain of the Guardians like in the comics
Yes I’m simping but the like to view ratio is bonkers to me. If it’s a channel I know I like, I just hit like before I full screen it.
Didn't like it at all. So disappointing. Overly sentimental. These stories don't work for me without something high stakes in parallel, like the Ronin/Thanos stuff in volume 1.
I don’t get emotional easily, but the parts with the animals just wrecked me…..
Loved it!! Best Marvel movie in quite a while
Brilliant movie 8.5/10 maybe in my top 5 of MCU of all time.
Instead of being manipulated to a point where I said “Come on.”
PS. Also his worst music choices of all three volumes.
It’s just a testimony to him getting way better as a writer and story teller
For me, I didn’t like the happy ending on how everyone survived. I would’ve been super emotional towards the film if a couple of the guardians of galaxy members had die. For example, they should’ve kills off draxx the destoryer, mantis, and nebula or star-lord. But once again marvel played it safe.
I still love the first guardians of the galaxy movie out of the whole trilogy series. Also I think guardians of galaxy vol. 2 was more emotional than vol.3 in my opinion.
Guardians 3 is up there with infinity war and endgame for me
This stand alone movie is in my all time MCU top 5. And GOTG is a solid contender for best MCU trilogy. They gave each Guardian space, time, and growth. My personal MVP was Nebula… no, Mantis… no, Drax… no, All Of Them! Five stars. But, in the end… Rocket! 😢😢😢
Capt, spiderman, gotg. All have amazing trilogy
Unrelated but what brand is that hat I love it!
Awesome review Kristian!! Keep it up
I LOVED it. It’s the best MCU movie since EndGame.
I left the movie thinking I would be okay with the High Evolutionary taking over Kang's spot as the MCU big bad
