    The first Guardians came out at a time when I was going through a period of severe depression. I'd been ousted from my only social circle, I was feeling alone and unwanted, I'd gained weight... It was an all-around bad time for me. Then I saw Guardians in the theatre, and I laughed - I mean *really* laughed -for the first time in months. It helped me realize that yes: I can still be happy; I'm going to be okay.
    Now, nine years later I'm in a similar social situation to where I was in 2014, I'm once again struggling with my weight...but I'm also at a new juncture in my life, starting a new job and making plans to go back to school and pursue a new career. It's scary, and it's so very exciting.

    The first Guardians was the first MCU movie I saw in theaters back in 2014 and it made me a fan of the franchise and I’m actually in the camp who actually likes Vol 2 more. The Guardians, out of all the heroes in the MCU, are the ones I connect to the most being an outcast, hell even help develop my taste in music. And Rocket’s my favorite MCU character, so I already know this is gonna get me in the feels.
    I’m just so thankful to hear this movie is getting good word of mouth from majority of reviewers, because not only is this movie my most anticipated of the year but Marvel (and the superhero genre right now anyway) needed this. After Phase 4 was hit or miss and the disappointing aftermath of Quantumania, they needed a win. Hopefully this movie brings back that magic that has been missing in some of the recent films (Wakanda Forever, and I would even argue No Way Home and Shang Chi being the exceptions). I know people are gonna say, “MARVEL’S BACK!” because of this movie, but I would wait to see if the other entries coming out afterwards are consistently good, or at least hoping they are. I want Marvel to succeed and I’m not gonna give up on them, but I also want them to do better in the future, and hopefully if the movie is a success, they can take lessons from it. We need more directors like James Gunn and Ryan Coogler who actually bring a level of depth and passion to these movies. If you want people to stop saying “superhero fatigue”, then just put out better quality, because audiences have a higher standard on how good these movies can be and they ain’t gonna accept mediocrity or even if it’s fine. Started off rough with Quantumania and Shazam 2, but if Spiderverse, The Flash (If it’s as good as the early buzz say), and hopefully Blue Beetle & The Marvels are good, might have a pretty solid year for superhero movies.

    • @thedefinitionisthis
      @thedefinitionisthis Год назад +5

      In the specific case of Marvel, what they need with their movies is consistency. Because yeah by and large they've been hit or miss. The examples you provided with Wakanda Forever, No Way Home, and Shang Chi being exceptions, by and large are good examples of what Marvel can still pull off, but they're broken up by "lesser" entries like a Black Widow, Love & Thunder, and Quantumania. Like for every strong entry, there's a "mid" one. The people (fans) definitely want a RUN of back-to-back bangers that we got in Phase 3, as opposed to the hit-or-miss that were the first two phases. Definitely looking forward to Guardians 3 this week. Given that this kinda humor was never Korey's thing to begin with, I wasn't expecting him to like it as much. But hearing Martin & Julian's takes sound more my speed. We shall see...

      @@thedefinitionisthis I mean he still liked it tho and seems like he did get some laughs out of it, same can’t be said for Ant Man and Thor based on his reviews.
      I know there’s some people (even some I’ve seen in the comment section) who said that after this, with the exception of a few entries, are done with the MCU. Which is fine, I get maybe they don’t like where the direction is heading or they just aren’t latched onto these new characters like they did with the ones in the Infinity Saga, but like I said for all of Phase 4’s faults and disappointments, it’s still had it’s bright spots that show that there’s still life left in Marvel, I just hope going forward we get better results. Pretend this was just a dark period for the MCU.

    • @thedefinitionisthis
      @thedefinitionisthis Год назад +3

      @@gcolbyp I'm considering this the "experimental period" of Marvel. They really took to heart the criticisms that the Infinity Saga (as engaging as it was), through their individual movies all felt relatively the same. Phase 4 definitely attempted to take some real creative swings and let their creators have more fun, so I give them that. However, they do still need to steer the course a bit better and really nail down how to land these newer styles of storytelling, so that they're actually good. We've seen glimpses of it being possible, but we haven't seen stretches of it, by and large. I also still feel that fans need to be a biiiit more patient, as it took us ten years to get to Infinity War/Endgame.... We're still at the building stages again.

Other than Spiderman and XMen (because I've been a life long fan), I think Guardians has secured one of my top spots for super heroes. I should start reading the comics. Mantis is up there with Storm and Jean Grey for me, in terms of my favorite/inspiring women heroes. Martin is correct in the sense that there was a visual key that if you missed in part 2 you wouldn't have known, if you haven't seen the Christmas special the scene is at the end of the special. If there is dialogue referring to that scene, then it may be confusing you could probably look it up online. It's literally a 4- or 5-minute scene won't take long.

    I LOVED the first 2 Guardians of the galaxy movies. I used to even think that the second was a 10/10 and that the first was a 9/10, but after a few rewatches, I think the first is a 10/10 and the second is a 9/10.
    But this new one? Uh... well...
    My big problem is that the flash-backs to Rocket Raccoon's origin story was way too dark. Like, seriously, way too dark. It flet like a horror movie or a really dark dramatic oscar-bait movie dark.(Also, some of the creatures the villain made were too scary and ugly looking.) Some people will like that, but, while I'm okay with a movie having a few sad scenes, but I hate it when we have lots of them and this felt like a lot. Also, I usually hate scary scenes, which is why I hate horror. We get it, Rocket Raccoon's childhood was a living hell, can we PLEASE get back to the funny characters!? (Also, some of the visuals were just gross.)
    But the funny characters? Oh yeah, they're still funny, maybe even hilairious! People in my theatre/cinema laughed at a lot of the jokes, especially my dad, and even I laughed quite a few times. In particular, I thought Mantis, Drax and Nebula. In fact, I would say Nebula was the best she had ever been as a character in this movie! She's cold on the outside, but genuinely cares for some of her teammates, in particular Rocket Raccoon. Also, the ending was nice, (even if they did do something I'm kinda against) because it was an emotional conclusion to the series.
    Would I rewatch it? Well, maybe when it comes out for free with my Disney+ subscription. All in all, it was "a mixed bag", as the saying goes.
    Oh wanna know what the thing they did that I was against? Okay, SPOILER WARNING:
    The Guardians of the Galaxy split up. I was against that because I enjoy them being together and them splitting up was a bit of a sad idea to me.

      Hey everyone, I just finally re-watched this movie on Disney+ and I liked it quite a bit more. I'd say it's now a 7/10 or a 8/10. The dark stuff was less dark this time around.
