    Giving one of these for my nephews birthday in a few days. I put on OnionOS, 25 of the best games from GBA, SNES, SEGA, PS1, and loaded it up with cartoons like Pokemon, Spongebob, Spiderman, etc. Think hes gonna love this thing.

    Very nice video.
    My first chinese handheld was the Anbernic RG351p. Soon after I bought a Powkiddy v90, and now I use a Retroid Pocket 3+. Getting a Miyoo Mini+ is very tempting too.

    • @TXFDA
      @TXFDA 11 месяцев назад +1

      I only have a Retroid Pocket 2+. And, while I enjoy it, I'm not the biggest fan of using Android for the emulation. It feels less 'personal' to me. Like, it feels like I'm just running files, on an old low-end phone, with a controller attachment. As opposed to using a game console to run games. So, I'm considering getting a Miyoo. Though I do have a minor concern that it might be a tad too small.

    • @Retrofire-47
      @Retrofire-47 11 месяцев назад

      @@TXFDA Similar feelings! i was contemplating a Vita purchase bc of its superior engineering, R&D, control scheme layout, materials, etc. I mean peeps suggest jury rigging your phone but that is the lamest thing ever to me... as is using some hacked together Android OS. i would want a dedicated gaming frontend. the Miyoo Mini+ caught my eye because i get the distinct impression the engineers of this device actually _get_ portable gaming. i am thinking i might stray away from the Vita [despite loving it] bc the Miyoo Mini+ emphasizes accessibility [small, portable] over extraneous features and difficult controls [Vita's "nipples", lol]. i am just a little confused bc while the Miyoo Mini+ is impressive by all standards it is still relegated to 2D games as it does not have analogs. this cuts off a lot, and by a lot i mean _a_ _lot_ of games. but, then again, to be honest how often is the average person going to be playing an insanely deep 3D game like Sly Cooper on a portable handheld? probably not often... what are your thoughts?

    • @TXFDA
      @TXFDA 11 месяцев назад +3

      Funny enough, it being a vertical design is a huge reason I want to get it.
      Not a Miyoo, but if you really want a horizontal device, I suggest looking into the Retroid Pocket 2S when it releases. $99, same size screen the Miyoo Plus has, can run more than the Miyoo can (it can do Dreamcast and N64, for instance), and it has two sticks. Though, it uses Android instead of Linux. So, to me at least (I have the Pocket 2+), the Retroid feels a lot less personal and stuff. Like, it feels more like you're emulating on an old phone with a controller attachment, as opposed to using a game console. But if you don't mind it using Android, they're really nice. And the 2S is even better than my 2+, having slightly more power, Hall Effect sticks, Analogue triggers, and even moves the D-Pad to the top left instead of the bottom left like mine is, making it more comfortable than mine.

    I'm looking into buying one, maybe even tomorrow. But, I'm having a minor crisis over here. I have a Retroid Pocket 2+ already. Which is one thing giving me a bit of pause. The other, is that I can't decide if I want this, or the ever-so-slightly taller Anbernic RG35XX. I have a concern that the Miyoo's gonna be a little too small and cramp my thumbs. That's an issue I have on my Retroid, where the D-Pad is super low in the bottom left corner.
    So, my thoughts. I love the look of the Miyoo. Even back when the original Miyoo Mini and V2 were a thing, I always thought they looked neat, if a tad TOO small. I also really liked how the screen worked, where it was jutting out from the face of the console slightly.
    The RG35XX on the other hand....looks nearly identical to the Miyoo Mini Plus, but it has that extra length at the bottom. BUT, the shoulder buttons stick out, making it a little less "pocketable", and it lacks Wifi, which removes any chance of it having RetroAchievements or FTP.
    As for my Retroid Pocket 2+, I love it for the most part. But again, the D-Pad placement cramps my thumb pretty bad, the right stick is absolute garbage (tho mostly unused anyway outside of me using it for some hotkey stuff), and lastly, it's running Android. Android in and of itself isn't bad for this kind of thing. Everything works well, especially once you get a new frontend from the Play Store like Daijisho or Reset Collection. But, being on Android just kinda feels so "impersonal" to me. Like, it feels like I'm emulating on a super old low-end phone with a controller attachment, as opposed to playing on an actual game console. It feels like I'm using a device that's designed to a bunch of stuff, that also just happens to have emulators. It's part of the reason I always felt weird about emulating on a PC. It feels less like I'm playing games, and more like I'm opening files, if that makes sense.
    My other concern overall, is that I'll get a Miyoo or RG35XX, and be underwhelmed. My Retroid can run everything the Miyoo and RG35XX can, but even more. It can do Dreamcast, Atomiswave, and Naomi near-perfect. It can run N64, and even some PSP. Though to be fair, I couldn't care less about emulating PSP and PS1, I have a PS Vita for that. So, I really don't wanna end up getting it, loving it for a week, then getting bored and going back to my Retroid. Especially when considering I'll have to set everything up again on the new device. Copy my roms over from my Retroid to the Miyoo, set up color palettes for Game Boy games again, set up overlays/borders again, set up shaders/filters for some games again.
    So, yeah. Minor crisis goin on in my brain at the moment. I DO kinda still really want a Miyoo as kind of a "take anywhere" kinda device. I spent $150 total on my Retroid, and I really don't like taking it out and around out of fear of scuffing it. Same with stuff like my Vita and 2DS. I also don't have a case for it. If I get the Miyoo, it'll be a bit smaller, cost me less, and I'll get it with a case. I feel like I'd be way more likely to take it out with me if I go somewhere.

    Onion OS JUST ADDED 2 new emulators to the system. Nintendo DS and another one that does require a $15 license to play forever (I don't remember the name right now). It's a lot more impressive that a system that WASN'T DESIGNED to play these 2 extra systems in the first place is able to run a lot of games of these consoles in stable conditions!

I went as far as looking for the best video filters (grids for gameboy games, scanlines for retro consoles) in retroarch to make everything look as close as to how it did back in the day, but with a better screen ofcourse. I suggest you create save states and save via that. Cause turning off and expecting it to save isn't always effective. If you take the SD card out to transfer games sometimes the save disappears and you have to go to a previous save state that you made. If you didn't make save state then you'll lose your progress. This doesn't happen all the time but it can and has happened to me.

    I have a minor question. Does the Miyoo Mini Plus (with or without OnionOS) support FBNeo? I believe I've seen people mention Mame 2003 Plus, and FBAlpha. But I haven't seen mention of FBNeo. I ask, because all of the Arcade games I have were gotten specifically for FBNeo, and I don't particularly wanna have to re-obtain 400-ish games, just because they're for the wrong Arcade emulator.
    I know it uses some version of Retroarch, and there's an FBNeo Retroarch core. But, I dunno if the Linux version (or the OS's for this thing) has access to that core.

    This device seems really awesome! I love retro games, and I'm always looking for hardware to experience my favorite games on!
    I am curious though -- how's the set up? I've dealt with a lot of emulators in my day and it feels like there's always hiccups. Is it pretty simple getting the games you want loaded onto the device and getting them to run?
    Also, you briefly mentioned ROM hacks. Do those work great on the system too? I love the GBA Fire Emblems and Pokemon games, so I'd love to be able to play fan hacks of those on the go!
    Regardless, this was a really interesting video! Thanks for sharing this cool device!

      Set up is incredibly quick and easy and there are plenty of guides on RUclips to walk you through it! Definitely recommend installing onion os for the best experience which literally just requires you dragging and dropping some files onto your sd card!
      And all rom hacks work perfectly on the Miyoo mini! They play just as if you were emulating them on pc! I’ve tested a lot of the popular Pokémon rom hacks and they all work perfectly.

    Hey I just have a question because I noticed you had a rom hack of Pokémon (Pokémon Gia version). How were you able to add it? I have two miyoo minis and a miyoo mini plus but I don’t know how to add rom hacks to any them. I would love to play something like Pokémon clover on these devices, but I have no idea how this stuff works. I didn’t need to faf the sd cards in order to move the rom hack game files to each device but I can’t get them to work when I add them.

    • @supersambams
      @supersambams  Год назад

      You need to patch the game on your pc first and then put it on your sd card. Or find a website that has the romhacks pre patched like cdromance. Hope that helps!
