I love your enthusiasm for the MM+ & Onion OS! It's still my all-time favourite device. The one I grab for quick sessions or when I leave the house. I'm excited for the A30 and the Flip but I find it hard to imagine either of those outshining the humble MM+. And thanks for the theme shoutout 😘 EDIT: Oh and regarding the ergonomics, if you haven't tried a grip yet, I highly recommend it. Not very portable, but great to grab for when you're gaming on the couch.
There's a 3D Printed grip on some Etsy stores (model files are online for 3D printer owners) where it doubles as both a grip and a case. Adds very little size to the device, protecting the screen in the pocket from keys. Just leaves part of the back exposed for the grip hole.
0:59 I could not agree more. The longer I use mine, the more I appreciate the OS and the attention to detail. It truly feels like a properly designed console now and it nails all the hardware fundamentals like good controls (especially the dpad, god I love it), screen etc. I doubt there is anything out there as seamless and enjoyable as a Miyoo Mini Plus & OnionOS as an overall package.
I agree with you in everything, I bought the RG35XX plus and later this Miyoo Mini Plus, all the good features of OnionOS makes it the best of all. Greetings from Argentina!

Good point about the form factor. A miyoo mini in an original Gameboy, Gameboy Pocket or Gameboy color form factor would be amazing❤ maybe even a Gameboy advance form factor 🤤
I can honestly say that I have no gripes with my Miyoo Mini +, it’s amazing. It’s all down to Onion OS! If I could change one thing, I’d go for a larger battery, but that’s me being picky, as long as I take a brick charger with me when I go away I’m good, as I rarely play for more than 1hr to 1.5hrs at a time when traveling. The screen is a good size for the pocketability of the device. I’m eagerly awaiting the new devices they are working on, especially the clam shell, as I loved my Advance SP back in the day.
Agreed! Yes before I was sent so many devices I bought the Miyoo Mini (OG) with my own money and actually took it with me on my first overseas holiday. I loved that thing.
I've got a Miyoo Mini Plus and it is very nice, but it's always bugged me that it wasn't very ergonomic, didn't have enough power to play all GBA games full speed (I'm looking at you, Duke Nukem Advance), and lacked HDMI out. So, I ended up picking up a RG353V last month and it's quickly became my new favorite handheld! It's just big enough to feel comfy in the hands, about the size of a Game Boy Color, and has plenty of power to play everything I want to play as well as HDMI out! I'm really loving having ArkOS installed on the internal emmc too, since it makes hopping in and out of games, loading the OS, and shutting the device down just as fast and snappy as the Miyoo Mini Plus. The RG353V with ArkOS installed on the internal emmc is definitely my GOAT vertical handheld!
One of my favorite devices is the GB Micro. I use it with an everdrive so I don't have to worry about carrying multiple carts. I can also play stuff like drill dozer (without the bump but the drill rumble is kinda cool. I honestly was hoping for a drill dozer 2 on switch with hd rumble) or modded boktai so I don't have to hold it out in the sun (which is kind of cool but not great when you aren't in direct sunlight) and you can play translated roms like mother 3. I like keeping the real carts at home as to not lose them.
You're so right. The Onion OS is what pushes the MM+ to the next level. That turn the system on and jump right back into your game feature is quite literally a game changer! Really hoping that the Onion OS crew make a version for the A30, because I love the horizontal layout.
I'd own the mini and the 35xx as the plus ... so have the small one handed miyoo mini original then the 35xx for longer two handed gameplay... currently I am running a miyoo mini plus as main and funky s as small one handed form factor.. admittedly I'm looking at the gkd pixel yo replace my Funky S..
I would say it depends on how you feel about the physical size of the device. The RG35xx is going to be just a little bit bigger and ergonomically different than the mini plus. That being said I don't think both are necessary since they essentially achieve much of the same You're just getting a better software experience with the miyoo
Is couse there is an aplication called splore, and its more like native pico8. It can be added by adding two files from the raspberrypi oficial pico 8 folder, two the pico8 folder in the miyoo mini. There are some tutorials on how to do it
I'm waiting for some custom firmware to come out for the anbernic rg35xx plus, for now the one I liked the most was KORIKI but it needs a lot of polishing

But the mp3 player's UX is aaaaaatrocious, mostly because of the button mapping that doesn't have anything to do with the rest of the OS. This is a very small con though, as I don't know anyone really using it to listen to mp3.
@@adinwalls hopefully the device is similar enough spec wise for onion support. I saw the news today. The size of the screen and device matters. It needs be compete with trimui smart in terms of size but with bigger screen.
@@adinwalls It doesn't have a stick on the right. Myioo doesn't seem to care the least about vertical arcade games, which are important in the retrogaming landscape though.
Forgive my ignorance, but did the rom list you rave about come with the Miyoo or was it added by Onion? I got mine from Amazon, it doesn't have the gogamegeek title screen
One huge tip for anyone wanting to overclock. Seems like a simple and dummy mistake. But i couldnt get the miyoo to properly overclock my games. Realized that windows automatically ends the txt files as .txt. So naming a text file cpuclock is all you need. Realized it was in my system as cpuclock.txt.txt hence why it wasnt overclocking correctly. Little tidbit since most people arent too tech savvy, and using windows.
Recently got a Miyoo Mini Plus, but didn't have a PC to update to Onion so I bought a pre installed SD card with Onion on it, so it cost a little more altogether, but it was well worth it. It's my first retro console, I'm glad I've waited till now to get one because it performs brilliant, it's just a great little console that works great in every way and has all my favorite games on from the past.
After watching most of your videos, I ordered a RG353VS its coming tomorrow, but I still like the miyoo, but I was put off by the 256mb ram and slower cpu.
I prefer the rg35xx, simply because I own one 😅 It looks better (miyoo got the gb grey all wrong!), is slightly more ergonomic because the buttons aren't so close to the bottom and has better build quality. I run Garlic OS, it does everything I need it to do.
When I was buying my console I was on the fence between the RG35XX and MiyooMini+. In the end I ended up buying the RG35XX because of the HDMI output and ability to play PS1. If you're looking for portability I wouldn't go with either. They both look so fragile.
Nice video. When I applied the bezels on my Miyoo Mini Plus for the GB, the bezels cut off part of the game screen, even with the aspect ratio setting on. GBA was fine though.
I am realising I left out a step in my notes. Instead of enabling integer scaling go to Settings>Video>Video Filter>GB-GBC>Filters for overlays>DMG_Greengrid.filt - this will give it that olden day look. Then don’t forget to go back to the quick menu to save as content directory override. If there’s a slight scaling glitch just restart the device and it should come right.
@@adinwalls I tried all that but it's still cuts off pixels round the outside of the image. You can see this when you have a game where the menu items (like cannon fodder) are the width of the screen, the start and end of the menu option are cut off. Shame as the GB effect is rally good otherwise.
I had a MM+ it's great for ps1 and below but I wanted similar form factor but also N64 and Dreamcast so I got an Anbernic rg353vs, it's better than the MM+ IMO.
I'm confused, I just recently purchased the Nubia Red Magic Pro 9 with their ShadowBlade gamepad and a GameSir G8 Galileo gamepad and I emulate all kinds of back in the day systems, I am currently hooked on Burnout Revenge (my fav racing game of all time) I have a couple God Of War games started as well but what's the difference between something like this and what I have, mine has a custom launcher as well and I like how someone novice like myself can adjust the settings as easily as I can
I agree, Adin. For me it's the GOAT for handheld mode. I have a Pixio px277 pro monitor which is perfect for retro gaming (thanks, Techdweeb. Check out his video on this monitor). If the MM+ had HDMI out, I would not need the RG35XX Plus/H. Once Onion OS is available for the RG35XX Plus/H, that may become my GOAT. Thank you for the great videos!
Adin, what interpolation option do you recommend for the miyoo mini plus? I don’t like using integer scaling but I want balanced pixels. I know onion OS comes with bi-cubic on by default but is there another option you recommend?
Hey I can't remember how into this I got when I set mine up. I don't think I did actually. I was quite happy with most of OnionOS's setups. I usually like to add a nice shader/filter to Gameboy though. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
@@adinwallsThat’s ok thanks for responding. I have a miyoo mini plus pre-setup with onion OS coming from go game geek so I was just wondering about some different settings. It sounds like they have it set up pretty good out of the box though. Thanks!
Got 2 miyoo mini for my kids. The meny and the look is not so good. I have a 353vs and with videopreview of the games. Its awesome. Add more old system then it show work great. And have the option to use it for video and mp3 on travel is just a bonus
If the ergonomics aren’t goated then it can’t be a goat handheld. Great video otherwise bro. I love onion os and mm+ is good but my hands get sore after about 30 min. The size is definitely not ideal for any demanding games from a control perspective (fighting, super metroid) RG351P and RG35XX are the real goats IMO
IDK for me it’s about a well rounded experience. And I can’t find a lot of flaws with the MM+ But ya, if comfort is higher on your less than my argument makes less sense.
to me the killer feature is wifi and that there is a Syncthing fork I can install on onionOS, which I use to sync my RetroArch game saves across my MM+, Odin2, and laptop and it works great
i have a rg35xxx that wont charge ....havent even had it two weeks lol now im looking into buying a more robust handheld....this miyoo looks too similar and i fear it will have the sam isuues
They need to just flat-out make this thing a GBA SP clone. Make it fold. The SP was one of the most ergonomic handhelds of all time. It was slightly longer, but your hand was in the right place. People shit on Nintendo, but they are the torchbearer of ergos.
They should make a stronger gameboy look alike emulator. The technology allows us to create it. Rg35xx + can play up to psp that is good. But a device that can emulate atleast up to ps vita. With a dual os with android. Does not the technology of today not allow us create such a device. Like we have created the smallest ever handhelds/keychain funkey S (fragile) and rg nano. Is that not possible to make?
@@adinwalls i'd yes to overall user experience. Better ergo, wifi scraping, better themes, retroachievmnts, netplay, hdmi, double sd card, moonlight, more power, etc. what else do you want? The RG35XX plus even have an OS with Full Linux Desktop, im not talking about moonlight. Those simple shortcuts in MM+ are generic scripts that can be applied in RG35XX Plus.
I've ordered it ten days ago of Ali, now I play the waiting game till it reaches my shitty country, and then, if the Customs/Post office don't steal it or brake it - I win...
"Two genital-size jokes in one video? _sigh_ " -- That's what she actually said. Because those parts leave a bad impression of an otherwise good video.
Hey I don’t mean to offend anyone with my jokes it’s just something that I picked up the The Office and it has become a standing family joke. Almost cultural at this point where the offensiveness of it all has been lost and it’s more of a challenge to see who can push the envelope as far as possible with their jokes 😊
Bold choice my friend. I do think that it's a great device. I really am looking forward to what this company can do with the flip. I have to say for myself it's not my favorite greatest as at the smaller form factor I think that the Miyoo mini is just a bit better.
You sold the GOAT and got a mountain goat? 😂 I am working on a video using MinUI on the TrimUI smart pro. It has some shortcomings but I think it will make it nicer in many ways.
Oh I think this has a year in it. I’m already feeing like the SP from Anbernic is one of those devices that may dethrone it. Maybe not with firmware but the incredible hardware.

This video features a curated version of OnionOS by Gogamegeek. The ROM list is by them
So the Miyoo Mini doesn’t come preloaded with games? Where do you get the Rom sets?
Most of them do come with games. The ones from LITNXT definitely do.
Quick Mode on ArkOS is close enough for me
I wanted the MM+ but I went with RP2S. A little more expensive but more powerful and comfortable.
Oh ya the RP2S is a GREAT choice. Like you say more pricey. Also harder to set up. But better in many ways
Can you help us to understand how to eliminate the HDMI lags when plugged at tv ? Thank you
ruclips.net/video/mymh14WZMzo/видео.html
Do you still think the Miyoo mini+ is GOAT? Over the Anbernic RG40XX V?
Yes
One huge tip for anyone wanting to overclock. Seems like a simple and dummy mistake. But i couldnt get the miyoo to properly overclock my games.
Realized that windows automatically ends the txt files as .txt. So naming a text file cpuclock is all you need. Realized it was in my system as cpuclock.txt.txt hence why it wasnt overclocking correctly.
Little tidbit since most people arent too tech savvy, and using windows.
We have the same glasses frame in our shop in Egypt! If you come to Egypt anytime, I have a free one for you.
Hey are you an optometrist?
Im an Optical Mechanic/Dispenser.
Gunstar Heroes on Genesis was my jam growing up!
Cool. MegaDrive / Genesis was big here. It may trigger a memory if I play that version. I am a sucker for a good platform we though
@@adinwalls It's very Contra/Metal Slug like and great to play with a buddy
9:07 "That's what she said." 😂
Gotta keep an eye out for those sneaky jokes.
Yup. MM+ with onion is undisputed. No contest.
Agreed!
These game consoles are probably good for gifts for kids, getting them started on gaming.
After watching most of your videos, I ordered a RG353VS its coming tomorrow, but I still like the miyoo, but I was put off by the 256mb ram and slower cpu.
Yes the 353vs is a very safe and fun bet!
What are your opinions on buying the $99 128gb version that is preloaded with Onion Os?
It's great! That's what they sent me recently and it's fully loaded.
I prefer the rg35xx, simply because I own one 😅 It looks better (miyoo got the gb grey all wrong!), is slightly more ergonomic because the buttons aren't so close to the bottom and has better build quality. I run Garlic OS, it does everything I need it to do.
Hehe yes the best device is the one you own!
When I was buying my console I was on the fence between the RG35XX and MiyooMini+. In the end I ended up buying the RG35XX because of the HDMI output and ability to play PS1. If you're looking for portability I wouldn't go with either. They both look so fragile.
Its good but I like my Miyoo with KorikiOS better
The Miyoo Mini Plus goes for around $45-$50 these days.
Nice video. When I applied the bezels on my Miyoo Mini Plus for the GB, the bezels cut off part of the game screen, even with the aspect ratio setting on. GBA was fine though.
Ya I had the but then it just kinda came right. Have you done a restart of the device?
I just reset my device and checked on this, and I had to enable integer scaling.
Maybe a safer option is to turn integer scaling on, don’t enable the filter and add the overlay. And be sure to save the overrides this should work.
I had a MM+ it's great for ps1 and below but I wanted similar form factor but also N64 and Dreamcast so I got an Anbernic rg353vs, it's better than the MM+ IMO.
New here but man you are freaking awesome and funny hahah! Love the review and can't wait to get my MM+ next week! Subscribed :)
Ah thank you!
I'm confused, I just recently purchased the Nubia Red Magic Pro 9 with their ShadowBlade gamepad and a GameSir G8 Galileo gamepad and I emulate all kinds of back in the day systems, I am currently hooked on Burnout Revenge (my fav racing game of all time) I have a couple God Of War games started as well but what's the difference between something like this and what I have, mine has a custom launcher as well and I like how someone novice like myself can adjust the settings as easily as I can
Hey there’s just room in the market for both concepts to exist. Some people don’t want to use their phone for gaming. Some do.
these gamepads are more expensive than the handhelds xD
I agree, Adin. For me it's the GOAT for handheld mode. I have a Pixio px277 pro monitor which is perfect for retro gaming (thanks, Techdweeb. Check out his video on this monitor). If the MM+ had HDMI out, I would not need the RG35XX Plus/H. Once Onion OS is available for the RG35XX Plus/H, that may become my GOAT. Thank you for the great videos!
How well does this play Nintendo DS games? Whats the best emulator for gb, gbc, gba and nintendo ds?
It’s not good at DS, you’ll need something a bit beefier for that. I recommend the RG Cube for that. A bit cheaper, try the Powkiddy RGB30
@adinwalls how can this device run ps1 games but not NDS games well?
NDS is harder to emulate. It's a mixture of processing power and the emulator I think.
Thanks!
Yes they really do. The Gogamegeek / Litnxt versions are quite nice. They put a bit of love into those things 😊
I think the RG35XX Plus is a bit better, no custom firmware yet but GarlicOS should be coming soon.
From a hardware point of view, yes I think the RG35XX plus has the edge.
Please check out the r36s! One of the best cheapest devices, and longer so much more comfortable to hold.
I’ve seen it around. I’m not convinced. I will need to order it in!
Got 2 miyoo mini for my kids. The meny and the look is not so good. I have a 353vs and with videopreview of the games. Its awesome. Add more old system then it show work great. And have the option to use it for video and mp3 on travel is just a bonus
Ya thats another good point. It’s way more user friendly for kids and non techies
If the ergonomics aren’t goated then it can’t be a goat handheld. Great video otherwise bro.
I love onion os and mm+ is good but my hands get sore after about 30 min. The size is definitely not ideal for any demanding games from a control perspective (fighting, super metroid)
RG351P and RG35XX are the real goats IMO
IDK for me it’s about a well rounded experience. And I can’t find a lot of flaws with the MM+
But ya, if comfort is higher on your less than my argument makes less sense.
I disagree.
The only thing it has is onion os.
Great video. It’s nice to see the comical side of you. 😂
Hehe thanks!
to me the killer feature is wifi and that there is a Syncthing fork I can install on onionOS, which I use to sync my RetroArch game saves across my MM+, Odin2, and laptop and it works great
Yes I have heard of this!
i have a rg35xxx that wont charge ....havent even had it two weeks lol now im looking into buying a more robust handheld....this miyoo looks too similar and i fear it will have the sam isuues
You’re unlucky there. You could just return it.
They need to just flat-out make this thing a GBA SP clone. Make it fold. The SP was one of the most ergonomic handhelds of all time. It was slightly longer, but your hand was in the right place. People shit on Nintendo, but they are the torchbearer of ergos.
They actually have a Miyoo Flip on the way
@@adinwalls Well thank you for saving my $60 then 👍
mmmm no thanks i prefer this and i have an sp, definitely don’t think it’s more comfortable. i have big hands though
Adin, I love that you made a “that’s what she said” joke 😂
Haha ya I know it’s inappropriate for many but it’s kinda a cultural joke at this point thanks to The Office.
@@adinwalls love that show!
@@crystal_is_cozy same. Watched it through at least 3 times
The built quality is stupidness the menu button is problems
Great video, but the best frontend of all time is RetroX for Android
Nope. Have you tried RG35XX PLUS with Batocera Lite/Koriki? It beats MM+ in my opinion
Performance-wise yes. Overall user experience? Idk
I guess we can debate this all day!
@@adinwalls go get the rg35xx plus/h. It seems your still in or rg35xx era. So you'll experience it
I've ordered it ten days ago of Ali, now I play the waiting game till it reaches my shitty country, and then, if the Customs/Post office don't steal it or brake it - I win...
Are you South African?! lol
Highly suggest getting a grip. Your adult hands will love your for it
Yet Anbernic RG35XX has the opcition for GarlicOS that is so good as OnionOS.
At this point GarlicOS is only in alpha and has a lot of work to be done.
@@adinwallsIts full working on RG35XX. On plus version is on Alpha.
If it only was horizontal with no sticks.
Sis.
Nice vid buddy
Thanks for the visit
“That’s a huge one, that’s what she said” what?! Hahaha
😏
I agree, but would be meh, if not for Onion OS.
Black tape if you want to cuver green light but its amazing i love mega cd games so happy the have them back pico 8 its a emulator in a emulator crazy
Haha yes Pico8 is great. I was going through some fun ones last night.
@@adinwalls do I need to update if on 4,2 onien thanks mak garet video we love miyoo mini plus's
FINALLY someone saying that a bit of chin would make a world of difference for this aaalmost perfect device : )
FINALLY! 😂
@@adinwalls I thought I was the only one with this gripe : D
😊 you are not alone
I dont think mines has overlays 😔
I do go through how to do it in the video. If it’s not there it may just be this preloaded version from gogamegeek
@@adinwalls thanks I wasn't pushing menu and select at same time I am smart lmao
'that's what she said' lmao
"Two genital-size jokes in one video? _sigh_ "
-- That's what she actually said.
I love my one but on oien 4,2 and realy happy shud i updat or not thank you best emulator I've got for long time
The OTA updater is nice in the new version. Another big thing is having native Pico8 (video on Monday on how to do this)
Bold choice my friend. I do think that it's a great device. I really am looking forward to what this company can do with the flip. I have to say for myself it's not my favorite greatest as at the smaller form factor I think that the Miyoo mini is just a bit better.
3d printer botem for miyoo mini plus's 10£ ebay
Yes I believe there are some grips but it will ruin how great it looks!
351v is still my GOAT.
Yes you see there’s a moment in the vid where I’m like, wait, this 351v is soooo good!
I sold the GOAT and got me a TrimUI Smart Pro. The GOAT was the weakest Device in my Collection. And too many OS'es making too many Problems. 😅
You sold the GOAT and got a mountain goat? 😂 I am working on a video using MinUI on the TrimUI smart pro. It has some shortcomings but I think it will make it nicer in many ways.
And then the RG35XXSP dropped. We'll see Adin. We'll see.
Hey man, it will never dethrone the MM+!!!!! aaaaaah! haha. OnionOS is still king but Anbernic's OS for the XX devices has come a long way
@@adinwalls I've seen a lot happen in my time, it's possible.
I'll be more interested in how this video ages. 😉👍
@@adinwalls Was that maniacal laughter I detected? LOL
Oh I think this has a year in it. I’m already feeing like the SP from Anbernic is one of those devices that may dethrone it. Maybe not with firmware but the incredible hardware.
