Not gonna lie, I kinda went out of control once I came across this community. Ended up buying about 8 different devices.
My first device was a 35XX but gave that to my sister. Ended up buying multiple Miyoo Mini's on sale. The MM and MM+ combo with Onion OS was my go-to for a while. Loved the ability to hot swap SD cards on those.
Got the RG405M and ended up not liking it which is now collecting dust. Got the 35XX+ at launch and never touched it again.
Then I caved in and bought the RP2S Metal on a whim. It quickly became my favorite retro handheld device so far. So much so, that it made me completely swap all of my games and saves over to this one device. There's just something special about the form factor, the premium metal build quality, beautiful screen, stereo speakers, HDMI out with screen casting available and the OS. It all feels like a cohesive package. Especially when compared to the 405M which feels like it was put together randomly. The RP2S covers all of the retro systems and games that I'd want to play.
The only other handheld I use, which covers everything else, is the Ayaneo Air 1S. This thing is my baby. My pride and joy if you will. But yeah, I settled on 2 devices and I'm good on those... for now 😅

@@TechDweeb Great video, but if I can add some criticisms.
For your "omni device" instead of the Base SteamDeck, it would've made more sense to go with the ASUS ROG Ally. It's more powerful, and the display is more usable (120Hz for scrolling, 1080p for low-end use). Also it's WindowsOS which means it won't get compatibility issues like SteamOS does.
Second point, so I'm a bit disappointed your pick for this category straight-up wasn't a Gaming PC. A well specced unit won't be obsolete for a decade, and will run the most amount of games. In fact it will run EVERY game, except exclusive titles from the PS5 (Switch2 and PS4 emulation is upcoming, XSX games can be accessed through the MS Store or xCloud). Those Mini PCs are actually NOT a good suggestion. They cost way too much for what you're getting (like an Intel NUC). So you either get VERY underpowered systems (Intel N100) or the competent ones (8740u) cost as much as a pre-built. The luggage/portable factor of those Mini PCs have their cost in both performance and price.
Another point to make, is I would say the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro is classified as "pocketable". The hint is in the name. It's right on the limit, like the PS Vita Slim. If you go slightly larger like the Anbernic 505 or 556, yeah, definitely not pocketable then.
And the last point to make, is the Logitech G-Cloud. Not too sure on this one. It is very comfortable and decent in many ways. Where it sucks is that, it's discontinued and hard to find, it's official price was bad so it's Street Price may not be good, it is a pretty underpowered device (QSD 768G), and lastly it is also not very capable. For all my criticisms of the SteamDeck, well, it's much more capable than any of the AndroidOS systems in terms of gaming. Yes, even the legendary AYN Odin2.

@@TechDweeb Okay, you will like this comment :D
I actually asked myself this question a few months back. I did a lot of thinking. And I have min-maxed it for a solution.
You should divide your electronics by Form-Factors and Ecosystems. So there's the obvious five types: Phone, Tablet, Laptop, Desktop, TV. And there's software walls/gardens from Apple, Google, Microsoft, Open-Source, and Other. And all these companies specialise in certain ways.
The most optimal way is this:
      Phone - Google - AndroidOS
      Tablet - Apple - iOS
      Laptop - Microsoft - WindowsOS
      Desktop - Open-Source - Custom
      TV - Other/Proprietary - Sony
And for me Kangal, personally, I've thought about the details and here is how it goes:
      - Pixel 8 Pro. Fits with Razer JungleCat to give you a pocketable console better than Retroid P4+. And a good phone experience.
      - iPad Mini 7. Use GameSir G8 controller. Waiting for the release with M1 chipset, Sideloading, and Emulation. And all those iOS Exclusive goodies. Apple has a monopoly on the tablet space for a good reason, the Android alternatives just aren't good. And you can swap this out with handhelds (Odin2, SteamDeck, ROG Ally) but it's hard to stick Apple anywhere else.
      - Frameworks 16 AMD. It's a great laptop that will stand test of time, and can be upgraded along the way.
      - Desktop PC. Custom Built. Specs as at least an AMD r7-7700 with RX-6800 and the usual. For software, Open-Source works best here, just dualboot it with Linux/Windows. High upon that list is the likes of ZorinOS.
      - TV. Now as I alluded to before, we want to access all those exclusive games and Apps. So last but not least is the PS5 Pro. It's coming and the sooner you're on the better, because the PS6 will be delayed for a long time.

    My current setup:
    - RG35XX H, Miyoo Mini+, RP2S for pocketability
    - OG Switch for couch gaming
    - GTX 1050 Ti for desktop emulation and indie games (yes, I've had this one for quite a while)
    Wishlist:
    - A stronger couch device; probably an Odin 2 or maybe the RP5 if that has a nice price/performance ratio
    - A better GPU for my desktop so I can play some newer AAA games

    My combination is:
    1. Anbernic RG35XX for games up to PS1
    2. My own android smartphone (Galaxy S22) paired with the Razer Kishi V2 controller and Beacon frontend launcher for games up to PS2
    3. A decent budget friendly but powerful PC, which is also used for emulation for games up to PS3
If you, like me, like to use your smartphone for emulation. I highly recommend using the Beacon frontend launcher. It keeps your whole library of emulated games, from various emulators you have installed, all in one place.
Similarly on PC, I use Playnite to keep all my PC games and emulated games organized. I also have all of my emulated games nicely organized in folders on my external hard drive with a copy of playnite installer and playnite setup backup, so I can take it with me to my friends house and play on any PC pretty much instantly.
I believe I have gone the cheapest route possible without compromising anything significant. Although, there was a lot of tinkering to get everything the way I wanted it. Which is something I love to do, but I know it isn't fun for everyone.

6-700 for a PC is wayyyy out of my price range, as much as I'd love that more than anything... So here's the 3 devices I use, that I got with some financial help from loved ones.
    1. Retroid Pocket 2+ for that pocketable life, also double as an android "phone" for me.
    2. Steam Deck 64gb for it's flexibility, also doubles as my main computer thanks to a $15 dock I bought years ago for a phone.
    3. Xbox Series S for TV gaming when the Deck isn't quite powerful enough. It was very cheap at $250 and I only have a 1080p display I got for free anyway.
Maybe someday I'll recover and heal enough to work again and I'll be able to afford to build a PC, but for now this setup has me covered for almost everything.

My 3: Xbox Series X, Steam Deck, and my android cell phone.
Total cost was under $850 including a controller for my phone but omitting the phone cost since we all have one (xbox was used, new OLED steam deck, phone is Galaxy s20 FE sells used for under $200). I have game pass which is amazing for trying out different games and streaming to my steam deck. I have emulation set up on all three. My phone is always with me + it has PokeMMO and I throw some modern day phone games in the rotation. I think my three are way less nostalgic for retro gaming but are far more practical. Still loved the video

For me,.I have two pocket devices, the RG35XX+ for most of my retro stuff, my hacked Vita for Vita, PSP and Ape Escape (I could play Retroarch on that too, but the RG I'd just a better experience), and then my plan is to round out the trinity with an as-yet-undecided handheld PC (I'm leaning towards the Legion Go for the screen and hardware versatility) to cover higher end emulation and modern games

I would actually choose hacked switch for number 2. Can emulate quite a lot and the rest is most likely ported to switch anyway. Plus of course you have the whole switch library.
Great video BTW! I always look forward to seeing next one!

    My 3 are
GPD Win Max 2 (or Win 4 but WM2 services as a laptop better)
    KTR1
    GKD Pixel
WM2 crushes everything I throw at it including email and excel. It's my travel laptop.
KTR1 is the best size to performance ratio on the market, imo, and has that 1080p, 3:2 ratio, high density pixel display. I love it.
And the GKD Pixel is my "never leave home without it" device. It only recently replaced the Nano due to the extra 2 shoulders and the bigger screen. Although the Nano performs better, the Pixel is just easier to play on.
Love the video, man. From another 40ish year old to another, never grow up.

A hacked New 3DS makes for a fantastic pocket device. Lots of emulators, (standalone or Retroarch), natively runs 3DS games, DS roms, and GBA roms. You can install 3DS carts to storage, so you don't need to take them around with you. You can play some DS roms in true widescreen, (only stretches 2D stuff). Pictochat. You've got homebrew ports like, Quake 1 and 2, Diablo 1, 3D Space Cadet Pinball, Half Life, and... (checks notes) Sonic Mania, apparently?
Oh, and Linux. There is a 3DS Linux distro.

It also plays everything up to ps2, dreamcast, wii/gc with no issues. I think a powerful android smartphone and a powerful gaming PC for everything else are the only two devices i need. However, i still opt to carry around my 3DS because someone has to be the streetpass beacon of their hometown.

I only have two type of devices. A pocket friendly and a couch device wich is also my main device.
My pocked Handheld is the RG35XX-H! I just love the horizontal form factor and the H has enough power for some PSP and DreamCast. House of the Dead 2 is currently my main game if I'm in a line or in a hospital and don't want to think really.
My all in device os the Switch. Yes, it can't play every game, yes the Eshop is a pain in the ass and YES it's under powered... But MAAAN there are sooo many great games on it. Doom, Xenoblade, Zelda, Mario, and of course indy games. Red Dead Redemption was just a perfect first time experience on it for me. I bought so many games on it, that currently I don't even want to buy a next gen Switch because of my backlog.
And I can play it on my TV and on my couch or toilet.

I'd go so far as to say a Steam Deck or other handheld PC and a homebrewed 3DS of any kind make a perfect combo, and they're what I keep around. Set up emulation on both but let the 3DS handle its own and the NDS library, especially with the death of Citra, and you're set.

I bought a Retroid Pocket 2+ for 90CAD from a seller because he already has a Steam Deck and doesn't want to carry too many handhelds on him. It was my 1st retro handheld I own but I did have a 3DS & DS with a homebrew catdrige and the RP2+ is better at my emulation by a long shot. It's also as large than my Samsung Galaxy S24 phone, despite being more powerful but lacks buttons.
I also bought a Ryzen 3500u laptop for 120CAD from a seller and it can run up to Switch & PS3 emulation on battery but the battery doesn't last long like 2 hours at most if you play 3DS, Wii & PS2 emulation that don't force the laptop to make the fan spinning when it gets hotter. Obviously, it's not as portable as my RP2+.
I also 2 desktop PCs that are more powerful for gaming but I don't really play AAA games. I dislike that they uses 100+gb of space and they're not worth it if I don't play them as much.
Anyways, great video. I'll less likely going to have as many devices as yours, but it's great to keep us informed about them. :)

Currently just have a modded Switch for modern stuff, and a raspberry pi 400 for retro. It covers a lot, but it would be nice to have a gaming mini PC and maybe a small retro handheld. OTOH, time is always limited and I have an endless pile of other things I should be doing instead. It would genuinely be kind of nice to live in The Mom's basement with nothing I need to do but play games and see friends.
