The Miyoo Mini Plus is definitely my go-to retro handheld, especially because of Onion OS. The d-pad may stick here and there, but it's still more comfortable than most retro handhelds at its price range. And while it's ideal for 8 and 16-bit games, I gotta say, it handles its fair share of PS1 games easily too.
The portability is its strongest suit, aside from Onion OS. When I found myself in the hospital a few months ago, I just happened to have my Miyoo Mini Plus in my backpack without even remembering that I had put it there. It was my main source of entertainment during my hospital stay, playing through a good chunk of Shining Force II. That's why I like the Miyoo Mini Plus: it's durable, practical, and reliable.
I inverted the shoulder buttons in settings. In my opinion is much comfortable.
Great video! Thank you.
The best part is not paying outrageous prices on the secondary market for carts and systems. Fun is fun.
Thanks for the review! I'm going to pick one up after we recover from Christmas. I can finally stop stealing my kids switch to play old SNES games.
Enjoy!
You’ll love it !
Make sure you buy it with the latest onion os installed. Makes it so much better.
I ordered the same color. Mines is on the way. Thanks for the review 🙏🏿
Enjoy!
mine is on the way too, since you got it 3months ago, what do you think about it ?
@@alihan7183 I love it. So many old school games. Also I recommend to my nephew and he loves his well.
Thanks bro love from🇿🇦
good job on the video! lol im picking one up this week
Did you get one
honestly love this whole channel, you're very transparent with your review and actually influenced me to get a miyoo mini+ hehe. im waiting till Christmas to open it but man, I hope it lives up to the hype hehe.
Awesome! Thank you!
He’s amazing and just made me order the device, it supposedly arrives tomorrow.
Well done. Also my favorite daily handheld. Might want to open it up and clean out your face buttons. Sounds like you got something sticky or some pocket lint in there (happens to the best of us).
Not a bad idea, thanks!
Great video. I subbed. Excited for 2024. Have you seen the R36s??? Its my channel pick for best vertical
I've heard about it from a few people now, I may end up getting it!
First one Oracle of Seasons, nice!
I keep telling myself I don't need this because I have Steam deck with emu deck. But this fits in my pocket 👀
Hahahha have the same dilemma, have a steamdeck with emudeck and works great, recently grab a hyper pocket and feel in love with how games look on a tiny screen, problem with the hyper pocket is that you need to buy physical media and game collections are limited, thinking on grabbing one of this to have my retro fix and leave steamdeck just for PC gaming
just get it. i have both and wouldnt have it any other way.
Was wondering when ypu're going to put out a new video! Keep it up love this stuff! 👍
Thanks! I've been very buys but hoping to put out more frequent videos this upcoming year.
Nice can i ask if you played nba jams?
1st time watcher and thank you for the long thought out review. Subscribed now !
Awesome, thank you!
nice vid bro thanks!
Thanks I have a Mac this is great!
Great tips for Mac, wifi users and channels
Thanks!
I have an Anbernic RG35xx (the old one), so a very similar little emulator handheld. I love the thing to death. Mine had a dual boot os w/ garlic (onion but for Anbernic devices) and its stock OS.
It’s been an interesting experience, because there’s quirks and issues with both OS’s and I use both.
I mostly play PS1 games on it but also delve into all the Nintendo stuff because I can’t help it. I’m not sure if the Miyoo Mini has this but there’s a port for Quake on Garlic for the Anbernic. That, has been incredibly cool to play on something so tiny and cheap.
-and holy crap you’re lucky to have caught a Ralts on a Nuzlock
I got myself an RG35xx plus for review, excited to see how that one compares to the Miyoo Mini plus.
And yea the Ralts encounter was crazy. Of course I got him killed later on lol Nuzlocks are tough!
I got you fam. You can simply map R2 and L2 to R1 and L1. It makes playing Megaman Zero and any games where you have to hit the shoulder buttons a lot more comfortable. It's perfect for Retro games because for most we don't need two shoulder buttons. So I just mapped both to R1 and L1.
You can also map X & Y to A & B too. I find it very comfortable.
Thank you! This is the solution haha
@@8bitbongoDid you use the Tweaks menu?
You're very welcome! I got another possible solution for you regarding your hottake about the D-Pad.
Sakura Retro Modding on Etsy sells a DMG style D-Pad. It protrudes less so you may like how it feels compared to the Stock one.
They ship from France so it may take a month for it to arrive but I like it.
They also sell a Play Station style D-Pad that I like too. But I think the DMG style may be more your speed because the PS Style one protrudes more.
- D-pad - I have exactly the same experience. If I'm soft while changing directions it works fine though. This is a recurring problem for me, to the point of considering upgrading to the RG35XX+ even though the OS is not there yet.
- Shoulder buttons - I found that swapping the shoulder buttons (R2 R1, L2 L1), is better, since the inward shoulder buttons are easier to access and L1/R1 are the most commonly used. There's a global option on Onion for that.
Just a heads up I have the rg35xx and the dpad issue is there as well
I think the RG35xx Plus is the Golden Standard and King now for me, if it had a better screen and bluetooth and HDMI and a little bigger I might consider it as other Retro Tubers stated..***edit
😂😂😂
I would agree. I have the original 35XX and the mini and mini plus. I definitely spend much more time on the 35XX. The plus variant is the one to get if you don't have one already, but if you do it isn't much of an upgrade considering that the system is not designed to play games that require analog sticks.
амберник лучше во всем
I'm tempted to get one, but I think I may just stick with a batocera raspberry pi since it gives me a full screen and controller and some nice retro shaders. BTW, "Miyoo" rhymes with "Wii U" -- "me, you".
In my opinion, The mini Plus is a companion handheld that you can put in your front pocket every day and play plenty of games on. I would recommend it in conjunction with a RG405m/v, Retroid pocket 3+/4/4+, or an odin 2, but even with those consoles, its still the most convenient for the active person. I gave a couple with onion OS installed to my family for christmas
100% agree
Best emulator I've ever bought full list of everything up to psx but to have my mega cd games back yes
I've never played so much since I had my amiga. I love my mm+. I love Onion OS, and I love having finished the graphic adventure The Dig on this device, which was never finished at the time.
I love having found my beloved arcade games, speccy games, c64, amiga, nes, gameboy, ps1, and I love having tried so many systems that I missed
I love pico 8, having so many systems at my fingertips, I love having everything set up perfectly and being able to get everything working.
the best spent 50 euros, in recreational terms, of my life.
only flaw: I would never stop playing it.
I was just about to ask if it was possible to run C64, Amiga and Arcade games on this gizmo. Can't wait to play some old IK+ and other classics!
@@jresin_photo from '70 to PSX everything runs perfectly, plus nds, fantasy consoles like pico 8, porting from other pc and console games ... my last intallation is windows 3x. it's simply crazy!
it's the pokemon's players paradise, but old nerd like me i think can to have much more fun! :D
@@ilraccontodinatale-corsoon6406 Hey, did you buy it in Europe? From which shop, if I might ask? :)
@@Cranberrymaker geekbuying, 48 euros with a coupon, 64 lextar good quality microsd
Do you save the the union os on the micro card ???
Super informative, thank you! Quick question if you have the time. Does this need to be "updated" at all? I'm a retro gamer and just wanna buy something once, install all my favourites and never have to do anything again haha. I'm not tech savvy at all and haven't the patience or youth to understand and keep up with digital maintenance. Perhaps this is silly to admit, my apologies for such an inquiry. Thanks again! :)
If you go with the Miyoo Mini Plus I would install OnionOS over the stock OS it comes with, this console thrives on OnionOS. It's not too difficult but does require flashing a new microSD card. Once you do that, all updates can be done from the console itself over the internet, just like you would with your phone. If you want something straight out of the box to start playing on, I'd recommend something like the Anbernic 35XX plus, H, or SP. Maybe even the Anbernic 28XX if you like mini handhelds.
@@8bitbongo Amazing insight! Thank you very very much for taking the time to respond. I deeply appreciate it and most certainly will look into these options :) All the best!
Best dpad and buttons. The need to make it horizontal
At the main menu press up up down down left right left right B A, it will show bouncing DVD logo but wait for it to reach the corner.
haha omg it's true, I had no idea.
Hey man do the green light on the handheld bothers in normal lighting conditions or in a dark room, I am really attracted by the transparent purple version but I am not sure about the indicator light ?
It doesn't bother me at all and I play it at night in bed.
@@8bitbongoThank You brother. If the LED indicator isn't a problem, then I will go for the transparent purple one
i formatted my 128 gb with mac using disc utilities to MS DOS (FAT) like the onion guide says and my miyoo works well. was this other way necessary?
Hmm interesting, I couldn't figure out how to format it through disc utilities for larger MicroSDs, I guess if it works great but if not you have the raspberry pi option available.
I did the same thing and mine’s been working just fine.
Picked this up just now instead of the analogue pocket , just seems like a no brainer with todays cost of living, can you start playing without messing around with onion os ?
Yes you can out of the box but I highly recommend setting up Onion OS, it's really the best OS I've used out of any handheld.
@@8bitbongo Thankyou for the response bro 🙏🏽
solid console
I have a miyoo mini + and a steamdeck. All you really need these days
The Mini plus is a great system. I have one and installed onion OS as well. I, however, strongly prefer my RG35XX for overall hand feel and ergonomics. I also prefer the button feel of the RG ... Although the triggers on the mini are better, and more durable based on reports of broken triggers on RG systems.
Onion OS is definitely better than Garlic OS on the RG35XX. In fact, at this point, garlic feels like the beta version of onion. But still, it can play just about everything the Mini can without issues.
D-pad wise I prefer the RGs more stiff feel. Then again I don't play fighting games, for those I think the mini is better.
I wouldn't be too confident about dropping the mini, plenty of Reddit posts out there on how fragile these devices can actually be, despite feeling durable.
Thanks for sharing, I need to get the 35XX to compare.
How it's snes performance with special chip games? They run good? I love my original pocket go but it's not powerful enough for SNES like the v90
I’ve played yoshi’s island on it and didn’t see any issues!
Is it safe to plug it into a fast charger with a USB-C to USB-C cable? My portable brick for my switch is 30W.
As long as it’s a name brand charger it shouldnt send more than what the Miyoo mini can handle, but personally I’d rather not risk it and charge it with a non-fast charger or through my laptop.
Its pronounced me you mini. Your killin me over here
You're totally right, gotta get my-you out of my head lol
@@8bitbongo Mayo mini!
@@Rikaisan love it, Mayo mini is way better
Purple shell is great but I think the buttons being an off purple shade from the shell looks horrible. They should have made them black like other companies using this color
If you haven't.. Please play Baldurs Gate 3 and you will feel that same feeling you felt as a kid. You'll enjoy gaming again.
Does it have super mario bros games installed
I was going to get this but went with the R36S instead. It was cheaper, more powerful and bigger.
These are the 2 I’m undecided on! Are you still happy with your choice to get the R36S?
@@pruggy5058I got rid of the R36S. It was really cramped for playing PS1 games with lots of shoulder button presses. I just ordered a RG35XX H. If I just played pre-PS1 games, I probably would have kept the R36S.
@@pruggy5058i think the more power on the 36' is not necessary, because on those devices you anyway wont enjoy x64 games. If you wanf that go for a vertical or one to connect to your tv.
Anyway. Miyoo mini + has such an amazing feeling to just hold it. Cause of high quality case. It just feels right. You have to check it out to understand what i mean. But its just to fckkking amazing, maybe even more than my gameboy, back in old times
Does it habe kid nikki
Will that micro card work on the anbernic if i transfer it ???
If you have OnionOS installed on it, no. That's exclusive to the Miyoo Mini
I know you probably know this but it's Me-yu mini plus. that being said I've had no issues with the buttons sticking, it's probably a defect or maybe it misplaced on accident. I had this happen with the menu button (mine was displaced and had a defect) but managed to fix it. you can try opening it up and placing everything in again to see if it fixes the issue
Thanks for the advice, you’re probably right that it’s a one off issue. As for the pronunciation I found out after the fact that I was saying it wrong haha
12:55 augh! what have they done to sonic?!?!?! he looks so blurry!
please its a camera error
How do you get Pokémon sapphire on there?
When you install OnionOS, there will be a ROMs folder created on your SD card. Just copy over a Pokemon Sapphire ROM into the folder labeled GBA.
how does it compare with the powkiddy rgb30?
I'm working on an RGB30 review right now, they serve different purposes in my opinion. The RGB30 is great for it's unique screen. Keep an eye out for that review!
I love this😊
Anyone else run into the buttons sticking?
My vibration motor stopped working same day i bought it😅 other than that its been great!
Oh and my volume up was non functional
Does it have zelda and mario games already?
“Me you mini plus” ✅
“My you mini plus” ❌
Can this run n64 roms?
No it can't unfortunately.
I am looking to buy one of the best handheld... Theres really many systems, so I will tell you what I search...
Good screen
Games that are already inside
Games that I can play from Gameboy to Ps2 (including Genesis, Snes, Ps1, Dreamcast)
A handheld where I can add games easyly through a card if I need too
Great battery
And comfort to play
Can someone, please, give me an advice for the best one to buy?
For 100 bucks maximum?
Thanks

Try retroid pocket 2S, it got almost all u need except the game rom, u need to insert by urself.
For PS2 emulation you need at least 200 €.
COLLECT THEM ALL!
A cool alternative if you can't grab an Analogue pocket.
Raspberry pi = raspberry pie, not raspberry "p.i." 😉🎮🥧
Lost me at the 3rd "bu-on".
There's a T in there bud
Miyoo = MeYou .. not "my.you" 🤔💯😉🎮
rg35xx plus is much better for the same price
Care to elaborate on that?
Not me w/ the basic RG35xx lol
I like my RG35XX Plus for power and the controls, but I don’t really love any of the firmware options currently. I mainly play GBA games, so the Miyoo Mini (Plus) has plenty of power for my day to day, and Onion OS is seriously so damn good
Yeah no, d-pad & back buttons suck and Garlic OS objectively isn't that good in comparison to Onion OS
At this price point with the intent of having retro games on the go, I would rather have a less powerful handheld with elite controls than a more powerful handheld with sub-par controls
"In your opinion..."
i got a r36s and i love it cheap and not bad to set up
I purchased an r36s for review as well!
@@8bitbongo for the price it the best i thank
I had the R36S also for short, got a RG35XX plus and I never looked back.
Now I also have a Miyoo Mini plus, both are way better in terms of quality as the R36S.
