Yeah i'm with ekoms. i picked up two rg505's discounted at different times on temu. bought a used targus videolink for hdmi. I use the ps4 controllers from my ps4. its great. i spent under $220 and used what I have and couldn't be happier. if one breaks, i can use the other. if a button goes or a shoulder trigger, I will keep that one docked then. backed up my movie collection too so they also work like a glorified dvd player.

Love my Miyoo. It’s everything I wanted out of my GBA when I was a kid. I can ftp in from my computer (or phone!) and move roms, artwork, guides, etc. around easily, and it runs everything like a dream. Good battery life and decent ergonomics go a long way for this little handheld. Final Fantasy VI, Metroid Fusion, Minish Cap, F-Zero Climax… they all run amazing - and look even better. Highly recommended.
I’ve had mine for about 4 months now and the only real complaints I have are the led and the overall build quality but all to be expected with a budget device. Picked up a Miyoo Mini+ a few weeks back. Well worth it for playing GB/GBA games. Probably couldn’t play it hours on end but picking it up to play a bit each night it’s been great. My top light only stays on for a couple minutes after I put it to sleep mode so I’ve not noticed it just staying on or causing any problems
I love mine, I think it’s the perfect size for playing on the go. It’s also really easy to mod, I swapped the speaker, and added custom shoulder buttons and a grip to make action/racing/fighting games easier. Onion OS and tiny set roms are a must have. And as mentioned in other comments, community firmware for these things (Onion OS for MM+ and Garlic OS for RG35XX) really open them up.
I think the rg35xx is the overall best handheld on the market. I love my Odin Pro and my Miyoo Mini Plus, but this handheld just has IT. They captured the Game Boy feel with it perfectly and somehow, other consoles feel right at home here. Sure, there are more powerful handhelds, but up to PS1 is literally a lifetime of gaming in itself. Also, while it may lkack the wifi, connecting to the TV is awesome. I play SNES games I grew up with on this handheld and it doesn't feel awkward. The screen is perfect.
I had a Miyoo Mini for 2 months, I had to sell it because I found a good deal for a Retroid Pocket 3+ and I needed the money to go towards it. But for what it's worth, the Miyoo Mini is a must buy if you want to go thru the RPGs of the PS1/GBA/SNES/Genesis era. My Miyoo Mini was basically a Super Robot Wars Machine.
I have the RG35XX and really like it, but this atomic purple Mini Plus is tempting me to waste more money 😅 The Wi-Fi and easily scraping art looks cool, and Onion OS is apparently better than Garlic - but I’d miss the RTC for Pokémon, and I hear the Anbernic feels slight better.
Finally you jumped on the Miyoo Mini hype train haha It's really good for what it is and being able to pack all my childhood/teenager games into my pocket is just awesome, especially at that price point. Recently a DS emulator was released for the Miyoo Mini Plus and it runs Pokemon HeartGold decently well (with frameskipping activated). The consoles I mostly play are NES, SNES, GB, GBC, GBA and now DS. I don't need much more in my pocket. Edit: I'd also recommend to install custom firmware like OnionOS onto a new high-quality SD card ASAP and build your own game library from scratch. The stock ROMs are often not great quality and the stock SD cards are known to fail over time.
Great video. Surprised you didn't get this sooner. The MM+ and the RG405M have been my go to pocketable handhelds. Both are great systems and are well worth the money. I swapped out the stock speaker in the Plus for one out of an Xperia phone and it has made the sound so much cleaner and I can actually hear the bass.
I’ve loved mine, picked it up a few months ago. Screen always impresses people first time they see it. Battery life is really good just left unplayed. I left it alone for a few weeks and it still had full battery
I have the miyoo mini - the real MINI one, without the plus - and it has been a joy to use and take with me as long as you don't have to use the shoulder buttons. Personally I remap the shoulder buttons for Gameboy Advance to the X & Y. That's way more comfortable. OnionOS is what makes these devices work so great. It's a must for fast pick-up-and-play gameplay, with a great sleep mode and save state management. Have played through Chrono Trigger on this device this summer while camping (and having quite a few days with absolute shite weather). Another absolute pro for me is the awesome D-Pad on the Miyoo Mini. It's really that good!
Thank you for your upload in a great handheld review! Lunch, football, family, your video, and food on my Birthday Sunday! Happy Sunday Funday everyone!
It's a good system if you get one free of defects. Unfortunately it's very much luck of the draw. I ended up picking up two of these and both had some issues. The first one I picked up from the official store has a speaker with above average distortion at medium - high volumes. The second one from an Amazon seller for about $10 more than official store had a bad D pad. Got an exchange for that one because of Amazon's return policy and the exchange unit had a loose screen (as you pointed out, adhesive tape isn't very sturdy). Ended up returning the exchanged item and got my money. I went ahead and got a Anbernic RG35XX and has been fantastic without any issues for months now. At this point I strongly prefer it over my Mini plus.
My Miyoo came with washed out image quality. I thought it was the screen, but after tuning the screen settings (luminance, contrast, etc) in Onion OS it’s perfect. No one mentions this fact, or if they do they blame the screen. Truth is the screen is great.
The miyoo mini plus is great I own both it and the also great Anbernic RG35XX. They are extremely similar and have the same games but the Anbernic has two SD card slots and an additional HDMI port that lets you play on a large screen with the handheld as a controller. It lacks the WiFi of the Mini+ tho. Both great devices!
@@igano111 I would keep the Anbernic. It fits my hands better by being just slightly larger and once I learn more about emulation I think the second SD slot could be really handy. That said I would not be disappointed with the MM+ at all and when I bought them there was only about $10 difference in price.
ur point about what devices can run vs what they can actually play is spot on, thats why i decided the same to buy a mini+ as a first device and next 1 gonna be something thats really powerful
I have an MM, MM+, RG35XX, and a Pocket 3+. The MMs are put away as collectors, and the 35XX is gonna be my daily driver. The Pocket 3+ is for special occasions lol
I bought the Anbernic RG35XX 128gb for my husband and its incredible, he is very happy. Cost me $138aud inc delivery from light in the box. Only drawback is sore fingers from controls but hey who didn’t get that playing Wonder Boy or Golden Axe back in the day? Love reliving my childhood!
I took the RG35XX a month ago, put there a 128GB patriot V30 card, my card is full with games 😅 i tried even the koriki and batocera OS on another 64gb card to play a bit with the OS, im glad to have the anbernic, battery is hyper durable to me, i charge my huawei phone daily evening, and my anbernic once a week or sometimes twice a week.
I have the rgx35xx and the Miyoo mini, I thought I’d like the Miyoo more but I slightly prefer the Rgx35. It seems to a better job on gba advance emulation.
Anbernic makes a decent retro handheld emulator system. I recently purchased the budget model RG353PS. It was $99.99 Shipped (With The OS Micro SD Only). I swapped the Stock OS With ArcOS and a new Micro SD. I have been able to enjoy up to SOME Sega Saturn and Dreamcast titles just fine. Keep up the GREAT work John. Love the content!
Got the RG35XX at the end of last year and have enjoyed it as much as can be expected when you have every game at your fingertips from your childhood. Which for me is very infrequently for some reason they just don’t have the kind of value I would expect them too. If I had one in 1999 I would have been all over it but now I just mostly play 360/ps3 generation and forward.
@@Patrick-bn5rp tend to lean towards the old RPGs, Mario’s, Zelda’s, Pokémon’s, castlevanias, other action platformers that I played or ones I missed out on that have since learned were considered good.
Got one of these a couple of weeks ago and took it on a 3 day trip with friends to the beach. Not only did it help with disconnecting from our phones but it was also swapping hands every few minutes cus everyone was dying to play a few gba classics from when we were in school. I carry it on my pocket for when im waiting on a line and every time ive been asked where i got that game boy from.
Got the classic gameboy grey one. That one and the white one have a very nice soft touch shell. Mine also got a screen protector included with it. Put Onion OS on it and it absolutely rules.
I've inadvertently started my collection retro emulation handhelds. lol I now have a MM+, RG353VS, RG35XX, and RG405V. So far I really like the 405V for its big screen and hand comfort. I'm going to try hooking up wifi on the 35XX for one-handed play of rpg's. The MM+ is nice, and I'm going to keep it for now, but it's not my current preference.
I did that but haven't gotten around to virtual console or even looked into h shop yet. I've heard people say that an old 3ds will run snes just fine but I'm not convinced.
This reminded me I have an old handheld emulator called a Wiz (I think that's it) tucked away I used a long time back. I wonder if it will still charge up after all this time. It's probably only something that would appeal to a collector of handhelds anymore.
I got the black model shipped to me close after launch. Russ from Retro Game Corps helped me pull the trigger on one after his review. When I got it, the screen was damaged so thank God I used Amazon to purchase it since the return was Hassel free. Once I got my replacement, I upgraded it to Onion OS. I use my Miyoo Mini at least once a day because it helps me keep my retro collection at my fingertips and the size and form factor are perfect for the systems it emulates. Personally, I have found that the screen best fits Sega Genesis games. Just fire up Sonic really quick and you will instantly notice how good the aspect ratio and brightness lends itself to these games. It's also great for playing Japanese games with English patches on them. For example, I can play a difficult game to emulate like Tengai Makyou Zero on the Super Famicom using the SNES 9x Core through RetroArch. Another nice feature it has is it's overlays, especially for GB, GBC and GBA. The form factor lends itself quite well to these games and the overlays make it look like there is a Game Boy screen lens on the screen. If anyone gets the Miyoo Mini, get a bundle with a case and screen protector. It is a bit delicate but it will serve you well as long as you take care of it. Overall, I'm happy with it and it was worth every penny!
Been having fun with my Miyoo mini+ for a couple of weeks now. On the SD card in the Retroarch folder: create a cpuclock.txt file, inside you write the speed of the cpu. Example: 1400 (default cpu of the Miyoo mini/ mini+ is 1200). Heavier games run a bit better and the fast forward in many games will be faster, as this makes the CPU run at full speed.
I've had mine for over a month now and I love it. I was playing a Yoshi's Island on it, switched over to my Steam Deck to play Yoshi's Island, but then I went back to the Miyoo Mini+ because I enjoyed the experience more. Better built-in shortcuts, better screen quality, better game switcher, etc. I love it.
I think the RG35XX has a better build quality, feels (a little) more premium plastic etc & is slightly more comfortable to use. Get Garlic OS on the thing & you're all set.
The light at the top will be on if you have the console ON or in SLEEP modes. If you hold the power button for a few seconds, the console will actually shutdown along with the light.
I’ve have had mine for a month. I primarily play GBA Pokemon games and Mario on the SNES. And let me tell you, if it’s your first emulation device, this thing is perfect. I’ve been kicking back playing Pokemon Emerald everyday after work and it makes me feel like a kid again. I’d just recommend buying your own SD card as the cheap Chinese one it comes with is known to fail after a while. But this thing is awesome, my son loves playing it too.
Good choice Jon I also got the purple Took 3 months for it to arrive (ordered the first week after the release) I use mine mostly for travel Easier to whip that bad boy out than a switch
I kinda want an Anbernic or the Miyoo as well, but I already have a Steam Deck, Analogue Pocket, Retroid Flip, and Odroid Go Advance. Not including I kept all my original handhelds 😅 its addicting to collect these things
I’ve had the myoo mini for over a year , it’s a great little take on the bus console , I have a steam deck for the big stuff, but for gba and ps1 this little guy is perfect
I MM+ is great for anyone who has time for short bursts of gameplay. I have found that I usually do not and that I'm not a huge fan of small screens. I also wish it was horizontal instead of vertical personally but I choose to get it because it was so great a deal and so portable. Anyone who knows the limitations going in should be in for quite a great deal though. Amazing what we can get nowadays for handhelds. These also have a decently big mods community for buttons, stickers, cases, shells, etc. It's great that the community liked it so much that it became popular enough for long enough to have support
The Miyoo Mini+ is great! It's my favorite Chinese retro-heldheld by far. Makes all the Gameboy, GBA, NES, SNES and PlayStation games look great. Setting it up with OnionOS takes it to the next level. I love setting these up to give as gifts and always get great responses. I only wish I could get Retro Achievements to work. Maybe in future firmware or OnionOS updates that will get fixed.
@@AlfonsoCasey Yeah I did that and still doesn't work. I even reinstalled OnionOS and it doesn't work. Says on quick menu under "Achievements" that I am not logged in even though creds are tested and I saved RetroArch config file.
It's the go-to gift for all the people around me that want to get into emulation mainly for GB, GBC and GBA, i.e. all of my Gen X friends. Prepare them a good SD card with OnionOS and the games they truly love, and they'll be perfectly set up. It's the right size, battery life's good and they really don't even need to ever update it. Sure, OnionOS will gain even more features over time, but once you've started to play your 7-10 favourite games, you'll simply use the quick switch feature without ever going into the system.
Love my Miyoo Mini plus and a 3-D printer a grip so it’s comfortable for adult size hands. The custme Onion OS is amazing it feels very well optimized.
My current goto...very good price/value proposition. Onion OS is a marked improvement on the stock OS. Installing Onion OS & replacing the included SD card are the recommended actions after purchase.
Since PS1 and PS2 (not completely) are not that difficult to run at this point I went got the Anbernic RG405V and its not dissapointing so far and to my surprise it can also emulate some vita/switch games which is not advertised
The emulation scene is getting there with PS2, but compromises usually need to be made for PS2, like dropped frames, or resorting to the least demanding titles.
Fantastic console I use it as a gameboy and it does everything I want it to so. Can’t afford the analogue pocket and for what this does for the price tag, well worth it!
I’m getting a RG35xx soon to finally get into this niche. Mainly interested in the PS1 emulation on it. That’s very, very exciting with how small the thing is. It might take over emulating everything up to that generation from my Steam Deck
I've been carrying my Miyoo Mini in my pocket for about a year now without any case or screen protector and it's been fine so it's not as fragile as you might think it is.
I love these things. I love this device I grabbed. My First was the Miyoo Mini, which was amazing and my first Emu Handheld, but it was so small. Around that time I grabbed a Retroid Pocket 3+ which has been wonderful as well. But I had to go in and decide between the Miyo Mini Plus or a RG35xx, which I ended up going for the RG35xx, and this thing has been my favorite. The devices are so nice, and I think they are wonderful nostalgic pieces too. To play these again in a actual Game Boy Like Format.
I’ve had both the MiYoo Mini + and the Anbernic RG35XX. They’re both fantastic! Kept the RG35XX because I liked it just a little better. My only complaint is that it doesn’t have Wi-Fi like the MiYoo does. But my MiYoo screen came slightly detached and was getting worse, so I returned it. But they both run so well!
Lol , i just got mine 2 weeks ago even the same color ! , and i loved it , been using it daily as on the go and a time killer after a work , 100% recommend.
I got it when it first came out (around the beginning of this year I think), still picking it up and playing it to this day. Not as much as the Retroid though, that gets picked up the most. Honestly I like when I have a reason to pick the Miyoo up more, but the reality is the Retroid is just on and ready to go because it’s android. Plus I don’t really play platform heavy games on the Miyoo, so my wonder boy in monster world play through, ended up on the Retroid. Highly suggest for the Miyoo is looking into Pico 8 and RPG maker games, it’s a great system to enjoy your library of newer retro inspired games. Rogue likes and RPGs are just so much easier to enjoy on this system.
Seems similar to the Anbernic? So far it's been great and has HDMI output. I was able to load up a few of my old PS1 games, not sure how much of collection will fit on it. But some of my discs are pretty beat up, and do not always read well. So this a better way to play them.
Just last night I put Onion on my plus. I love my miyoo mini so much I bought the plus but I havent used it because i like onion so much. I finally got it on there and it was simple.
retroid pocket 3+ or flip are the sweet spot IMO.... bang for yur buck performance is pretty on point.. I play gamecube and most ps2 games on those suckers....tho its not all set up for ya out of box.. at all. but worth it!
Buy Miyoo Mini Plus if you're down with the aesthetics and your hand can take advantage of the EXCELLENT inputs. Retroid Pocket 2S if you want some more juice. Odin Lite if you wanna stop messing around and play everything up to and including Dreamcast and a good chunk of Gamecube/PS2.

I have the RG35XX and really like it, but this atomic purple Mini Plus is tempting me to waste more money 😅
The Wi-Fi and easily scraping art looks cool, and Onion OS is apparently better than Garlic - but I’d miss the RTC for Pokémon, and I hear the Anbernic feels slight better.
RG35XX is better.
Great video. Surprised you didn't get this sooner. The MM+ and the RG405M have been my go to pocketable handhelds. Both are great systems and are well worth the money.
I swapped out the stock speaker in the Plus for one out of an Xperia phone and it has made the sound so much cleaner and I can actually hear the bass.
any tutorial on switching the speaker? or is it as simple as plugging it in
@@notrybro it's as simple as removing the stock speaker and dropping in the new one. Just make sure the contact pins are in the correct orientation.
I've had the exact same issues with my miyoo mini plus. Rg35xx > a much better and solidly built device.
Miyoo mini plus has wifi with a connection. However it doesn't have any features right now.
If you had to keep only one, which one would you choose?
@@igano111most choose 35XX. It has better features. Better ergonomics. Better built.
@@igano111 I would keep the Anbernic. It fits my hands better by being just slightly larger and once I learn more about emulation I think the second SD slot could be really handy. That said I would not be disappointed with the MM+ at all and when I bought them there was only about $10 difference in price.
@@Accidents41 Thanks. I might go with the Anbernic then cause I have large hands.
You should look into the anbernic rg405v that just came out. I grabbed the rg353v which I love for when I'm bored at my job
I was mistaken, it is not the RG35XX, saying that you should try it, is very good. It even plays Atari and Sega CD
Wish I kept my PSP because that is also good for jailbreaking and used as an emulator. Was looking into getting one again but man the prices are crazy
Get a vita
I still have 3 PSP's 😂
Still got my OG PSP 1000
@@Jokerwolf666 I’ve got 2 psp’s and 2 vita’s 🤣
@@Notpoop906 same got the first editions of psp and vita.
ur point about what devices can run vs what they can actually play is spot on, thats why i decided the same to buy a mini+ as a first device and next 1 gonna be something thats really powerful
Good choice. Most people say the exact same thing.
Depends on the games you're playing, tbh.
@@Patrick-bn5rp tend to lean towards the old RPGs, Mario’s, Zelda’s, Pokémon’s, castlevanias, other action platformers that I played or ones I missed out on that have since learned were considered good.
I have this and the RG35XX too. I love both.
I’ve got 2 of these to net play with my kids and an original MyiooMini. The Mini Plus defiantly my favorite handheld right now
Got the classic gameboy grey one. That one and the white one have a very nice soft touch shell. Mine also got a screen protector included with it. Put Onion OS on it and it absolutely rules.
As long as you keep your expectations in check these are fine. Not perfect not the end all be all but good enough for most people.
They need to bring back the blue colorway for the mini plus
2:18 "light can be really bright in dark rooms" 😂 not hating just found that amusing
surprised to hear you say the plastic feels cheap. when I got mine I just remember how high quality it felt over all, plastic felt great to me!
I thought the RGB35XX was suppose to be a better option? But I have neither. So I don't really know. Just going off reviews.
RGB35XX has slightly more power and a brighter screen but no WIFI. That means no OTA updates or support for Retro Achievements.
Picked up a 2DS for 7.50 @a thrift shop and put a $11 battery in it and modded it with H Shop, now it’s my budget handheld
I did that but haven't gotten around to virtual console or even looked into h shop yet. I've heard people say that an old 3ds will run snes just fine but I'm not convinced.
You can easily buy a replacement battery on numerous sites. It works with a 103665 Lithium Ion Polymer Battery, 3.7V 3000mAh.
This reminded me I have an old handheld emulator called a Wiz (I think that's it) tucked away I used a long time back. I wonder if it will still charge up after all this time. It's probably only something that would appeal to a collector of handhelds anymore.
I had one of those too!
I was between this and the retroid 3 +. Ended up w R3+, pretty amazing devices for emulation n form factor.
Got the 405v because the miyoo mini plus was way too small for me.
I love it.
I went with a solid color case due to that light bleed. It's still on of course but much more subdued.
I've had it for months. Bloody great
Since the Myioo was constantly sold out, I bought an Anbernic RG35xx and I'm more than satisfied with it.
You know with onion os you can trade and battle people online or locally on different miyoo minis, my miyoo comes in Monday if you wanna play
Hi quick question, since the miyoo mini plus doesn't have an Real time clock, does berry growing and other stuff work in Pokemon?
Good choice Jon
I also got the purple
Took 3 months for it to arrive (ordered the first week after the release)
I use mine mostly for travel
Easier to whip that bad boy out than a switch
RG35XX is the better choice.
@@MegaFinalRound oh and your 35xx sounds cheaper with louder buttons and that rattle that spells cheap as it shakes
Hilarious. Console wars even with knock off consoles.
Welcome to the MM+ cult! It does what it does very well in a sweet form factor!
Is there any good handhelds that can run gamecube games well
Great system. I have my moded PS Vita 2000 . Makes a great gift though.
And.....purchased. picked up a couple evercade cartridges ive been meaning to get as well.
Achievements didn't work for me at first. I figured out that you need to save the config after entering your login and password and now it works fine.
Good TechWave Jon(SW).
Looks like a really neat Cheap little Retro Device.
Until you drop it.
@@MegaFinalRound You can say that about almost anything though.
@@Atrus999 exactly.
My favorite emulation pickup of the year!! Hands down.
I just got this device a week ago! It's an amazing device and the build quality is superb.
You chose well. The Miyoos also don’t have anywhere to grip the palms.
@@MegaFinalRound That's true. It was more difficult to hold.
Got one last week . Couldn’t be happier . Downtime King 👑
The Anbernic RG35XX is very similar but cheaper and has slightly better performance.
When I bought the same one, I was like "it's Spawn Wave colors!"
Love the Miyoo Mini+, plays GBA like a dream.
Lol , i just got mine 2 weeks ago even the same color ! , and i loved it , been using it daily as on the go and a time killer after a work , 100% recommend.
I want to be able to play Thousand Arms. Which emulation handheld would be best for older PS1 roms?
I love my Miyoo mini plus I got Onion OS and the Tiny best set of roms 128gb sd card
I got the rg35xx and I LOVE it 😍 all the gba games!
Love my miyoo mini! Onion OS is pretty awesome. Its great for exactly the systems you mention and the battery life standby mode is really good too.
Just to note on battery life, the wifi chip on the miyoo really drains the battery. If you turn off wifi, you can pretty much double battery life.
What a coincidence. Great minds think alike. I literally just bought this on Friday on Amazon.
Great choice 👌
I got this 1 as well went on Etsy and ordered some mods
@@GodOfWAP169 what mods are out there? I ended up installing Onion OS and bro it made such a big difference. I love this thing
It's an OK handheld but personally I prefer the Ambernic and Retroid handhelds.
heard a lot of good feedback about it from all around. Got a deck, so i'll stick wit that
Where would you get games for this? How do you purchase the sd cards w emulated games?
I have been meaning to upgrade my Anbernic rg351p for some time now.
retroid pocket 3+ or flip are the sweet spot IMO.... bang for yur buck performance is pretty on point..
