    Thanks for the update! I purchased an X Carbon Comp last September. Your 1st video was one of the things that sealed the deal for me. I just recently made one mechanical change. I found myself wishing for just a little extra help on some of the long, steep climbs near my house. My local shop swapped out the stock 42-tooth chainring for a 40. Losing those two teeth in the front slightly reduces my top-end speed, but made a difference in climbs. I especially notice it when I'm on gravel and fighting rough terrain. Overall, I've had the same great experience you've had. It's a great bike!

    • @8bitBarry1
      @8bitBarry1  4 года назад

      Thats brilliant. Most of my riding is on the road so the stock chainring / cassette is perfectly good ratios but if I was offload a lot more than i would definitely do what you have. Thats what I love about all this, you can modify to make it work perfectly for you. Happy riding.

    I bought my Sirius X last year and love it. It’s a nice relaxed commuter that feels light and nimble, and the NX drivetrain is perfect for it. It’s the perfect 3rd bike to go with my Roubaix and Levo. I’m pretty close with my bike shop, so I picked up a set of DT Swiss 470 wheels with 350 hubs that were Tarmac take-offs for $200. Big improvement. Also did the Specialized XC Carbon handlebars, CGR Carbon seat post, SRAM Carbon crankset with One Up composite pedals, and Ergon seat & grips - all bought during various promotional sales over the year. To me it’s the perfect X spec now for about $2200 spent with discounts.

    Very helpful review. I test road this bike yesterday and loved it. Am going to test out the Specialized Diverge bike this coming week and probably then decide between the two. In our corner of the world, as of April 2020, the area shops have less than a handful of the "Comps" models left in stock, the Sirrus 5.0 models haven't yet arrived, but are scheduled to be available in May.

Yes I have just seen locally my bike store (Bike Shed Exeter) is selling the Sirrux X Carbon Comp for £1250 now the 5.0 has come out - if there was little difference then I would go with the Carbon Comp for less. If you have the opportunity to try them both side by side then wait. I am intrigued to know if there is any differences. Now I am thoroughly enjoying riding again, I am curious about another road bike / mountain bike... its like a brain disease!

      8bitBarry1 hey there. Just an update here-i went back to the shop and road the Diverge, and also a Kona gravel bike model the shop suggested. Both were nice but i much preferred the Sirrus X ride. So i bit the bullet and bought it putting in an order for a 5.0. Here in the Washington DC area of the US the price difference of the X models (only 1 in my size still in stock) is only $50 less. The advice of the bike experts is the components are essentially the same. So i opted for the 5.0 in order to get the sage green color. I should get it within a couple weeks. Very psyched! Craig

      D P sure. I am 6 feet even, and i went with the XL size frame. As for the Diverge, if i hadn’t ridden any other bike i might have found it great. But the shop also had me try a Kona Libre which was a lot of fun to ride. Between that and the Diverge, i would have picked the Kona Libre. It felt like it could handle rougher surfaces better than he diverge, but with no penalty when on smoother surfaces. I already have a dedicated roadbike that i can use when sticking to smooth pavement. So in opting for the Sirrus, i’m opting for my knock around, dirt roads, rough broken pavement bike. Hope that helps explain the impression the bikes gave me. Craig

      Ok - I had a Lemond Reno road bike (about £500). I live in a hilly area with steep climbs. It was a good ride but the gearing just didn't work for the terrain. Subsequently I did very little riding over 7 years I owned it. This bike changed everything. It doesn't matter the surface, the terrain, the steepness, this bike can conquer it all (ok, mountain biking excluded!). The bike is almost as fast as my road bike (35mph maximum due to gearing but surely thats enough!) , but way more comfortable to ride. No more crunched neck position and with the SWorks bar ends installed, uphills are way easier. I managed 31miles yesterday on roads and cycle tracks locally and it was a joy - fun and fast pace when I needed it back on the roads. I don't think I will never go back to a road bike, but some of them look so good!

      Do not worry - it's really well setup for 'climbers'. I live in a rather hilly area and I was really concerned it would not be enough - 1st gear is just right - it gives a 1:1 pedal turn to wheel turn ratio which is generous and practical. I have some really steep climbs where I live and it's perfect. As my fitness has improved, I often tackle them standing up in 2nd / 3rd, or sat down in 1st gear only if I have to. 1x11 means keeping the pace, without the irritation of shuffling chainsets, so you can climb and descend with focus (well I think so). I will never return to 2x now...

      I am going to make an 'accessories video' next as I have now made a few modifications to the bike, (nothing major) and like you a good lock was a necessary purchase. I think if I was a work commuter I would have to get some hooks to hang it on the wall in my office (!) as I too fear it being stolen if regularly left for long periods. It's quite a head turner as its unusual looking, like a circus trick bike made by the FBI. I only ever ride it from my house, but going away with it mounted on a bike rack makes be really nervous... I'll think about this

      @8bitBarry1  4 года назад +1

      It's a pleasure and thanks for watching. I was talking over email the other day with another Sirrus owner about tyre thickness. I can honestly say (in my own basic bike knowledge) I think the tyres that are on the bike as a standard seem to be pretty much perfect They are 700/38 Specialized Trigger tyres and seem to be an exact combination for gravel / track / urban pursuits. I think I may be hard pushed to tell the difference on tarmac, but I am certain I would on gravel, where I think the thickness and grip would be lacking if I went for a thinner tyre with less grip. If I was city based, then I think I would like to try out slicker tyres for sure.

    When I tried this bike, the shop only had a medium and it didn't feel quite right so I held off and never managed to find a shop near enough that had a large to try which is a shame because I really liked it. I have just looked at the sizing chart on their website and it does look like I fall between the medium / large size and from what you have said about your height and frame size it looks like you fall between XL AND XXL. Did you manage to try both sizes out before buying and did you feel more comfortable on the larger frame of the two ? Thanks

    • @8bitBarry1
      @8bitBarry1  4 года назад

      Thanks for the question - You are correct, I fall between XL and XXL - in the end XL was perfectly fine - I didn't get to try the XXL. I have to say after looking at the Sirrus X 5.0 page, I am not sure I would have been happy on an XXL - Top Tube lengths for the XL = 603mm and XXL = 628mm - I almost find the distance to the handle bars to be slightly too long on the XL and I have thought about a slightly shorter stem in the future, but its minor.

Theres also a recall on the future shock which is more worrying so dependent on date of purchase you need to check that out as well. Specialized need to up their game with recalls. • @8bitBarry1
      @8bitBarry1  3 года назад

      It does depend on your body length. Ian longer legs / shorter body in that sense, 34 inside leg and 6’3”, so I find the XL is a perfect fit. The bike shop were also of the opinion when I bought the bike that an XXL would probably work as well. In the end, the XL is exactly right for me. For reference, I’ve just recently bought a Stumpjumper Alloy 2021 MTB in XXL, which really surprised me. I tried an XL Giant Trance 3 and it was actually noticeably too small. Handlebars were too close to my knees when turning sharply - I was much more confident on the XXL (called an S6, made for 6’3” > 6’6”, which was also cheaper, so a complete win all round. I don’t think there’s a lot in it to be honest, just a few centimetres in top tube length.
      Hope you find one soon. The delays are huge, the Stumpjumper in XXL was the only one I could find!

    This model has basically been replaced by the Sirrus-X 5.0. The biggest change seems to be the switch from a SRAM to a Shimano group set. I have the original Comp Carbon, which I've ridden for several thousand miles. It's my daily commute bike. Last week I road through 3 feet of hurricane floodwaters and it made it without a hitch. But...........in my rear hub, which has never been great, the bearings are starting to get crunchy. So I may eventually have to replace the wheel. Thus the issue with switching over from SRAM to Shimano. I'm assuming the parts are compatible but who knows.

Its definitely a harder ride, you feel everything through the frame on lanes and gravel tracks, but it's far from 'uncomfortable' - the Future Shock stem really helps (see my video ruclips.net/video/KkPrIiIhivY/видео.html) , and fitting a new Redshift Shockstop seat post was the icing on the cake - its amazing and I thoroughly recommend it. @8bitBarry1  4 года назад

      Hi Sebastian - I am similar, could do with losing a bit. I managed a few 40 mile rides last summer when the weather was better and I found it very comfortable. The saddle was the main issue at first but this was sorted with some decent Ale cycle shorts. Any shortfall was my personal fitness. A regularly ride 30miles round trip to see my parents and find it very enjoyable, but many of my rides are 15mile pace rides to keep fit. Average speed on the flat is around 15-18mph from my Suunto watch, wind permitting. Living at 220ft up a hill, I dropped down the hill and climbed straight up another 320ft hill yesterday in under 12 mins. I was grinding in first gear towards the top, but it always gets me through. The ratio of gears is perfect for steeper Devon hills and I managed 37mph on the drop straight after... I really love the bike!
