Yes, please post a Part 2: How to enhance your new grad resume/application! Passed the NCLEX for a month now- A girl is struggling to land a nursing job or even get interviews :( Thanks Miki! 💕
I’m in the same boat. I graduated nursing school not to long ago and my boards. I have multiple years of clinical experience in acute care, and I’m not hearing back for any interviews. I had 2 interviews so far, one rejected me for the position I wanted but offered for me to interview for a different location, the second one hasn’t even called me back even though the interviewer said she really liked me and that I’d hear back from HR by the end of the week. That was a week and a half ago and I’ve heard nothing since. Not even an email. I don’t understand what I’m doing wrong…
When a new grad remember beggars cant be picky. I learned that. Getting a job out of nursing school is easy but getting a good job or something you're interested in is super hard!
That's my problem right now. All I see are jobs that I know for sure I DON'T want to do, but no opportunities for new grads in careers I'm interested in. I know beggars can't be choosers, but I also don't want to get stuck in a job I hate just for the sake of getting job experience to the point that I become depressed.
I actually disagree about your advice about going into Home Health as a New Grad. I was told numerous times by experienced RNs NOT to do it because if patient's status drastically changes you need to know what to do and as a New Grad you are very inexperienced. Just my 2 cents on the issue.
I agree !!! I was hired to do home health and I was only trained 3 times and was expected to just know everything and handle everything on my own 🤦🏻♀️
I disagree with you I went a whole year not doing nursing homes or home health because, because of the same advice and can’t get into a hospital now! They want to see that you did home health for a year some acute care! If you can’t handle acute changes than you have no business being an RN call 911.
Hello! A lot of my friends told me in order to do a hospital new grad program, they want students who haven't been working in other areas for more than 6 months. A lot of my friends work and then leave the places within 6 months so that its not seen as you are working totally as a nurse now and not a new grad. What are your thoughts on this?
If ya'll need a job then just work at any dusty little hospital that'll hire you. Trust me, I've worked in one of the lowest paying hospitals in Los Angeles which paid their nurses about $40/hr including the OT pay differential and some nurses ended up going to higher paying hospitals that paid up to $50-$60/hr because they had experience. Some only lasted like 6-8 months.
@@drea1053 I worked at Centinela Hospital in Inglewood and they kinda hired anybody tbh. It's a hard job tho d/t the patients and stuff. Also, LA Community, Gardena Memorial, LA County, hospitals by the valley, etc
Well you have gain a subscriber here, I just started school at Kent to get my BSN then on to my masters It I’m currently workin as an stna at a nursing home and I love it, my mother has been doing this since I was 2 and grew up on stories about her experience in the nursing field for 22 years and it just made me want to get into it. I’m trying to eventually be a nurse Practitioner hopefully lol
So a few questions: -If you can't get the preceptorship you wanted, how do you convince people to hire you in the field you're interested in? -How do I prevent myself from becoming stuck in a field I hate when I have no experience and can't get jobs in fields I'm interested in?
Granddaughter will graduate from ABSN SCHOOL IN 35 days 12/18/2020. She was accepted by two hospitals in Houston. She chose Houston Methodist mother baby.
Graduated in 2022. Have already been through two jobs. One lasted 4 months one seven months. Both were nightmares. Don't take a job in a facility with a revolving door.
not a nurse, but a medical assistant and no one wants to hire me :/ I’ve given up but this video makes me feel better, knowing that not even nurses get jobs right away after graduating. definitely going to try again.
@@kumonoameai Yup. I didn’t even get a preceptorship. 🤷♀️ I don’t know if they do that around here or if my school/hospitals near my school just suck.
But what about the new grads whose hospitals in the area will only hire you if you have 6months-1year professional RN experience?! These hospitals make you go through a competitive residency program which doesn't even start till next year (5 months from now) and I need a job now bc i have bills to pay!!!! extremely frustrating. Please help.
It's so different the way the US do their degree/intake/course/clinical and how the new grad application process and year is. I'm in my 3rd and FINAL year of nursing in Australia, NSW and we have 1 chance at the public health system for new grad and if we don't get it that's it we can't apply later it's you apply in July for the following years intake and there's no need for letters of recommendation, having a job already in the industry isn't much of an advantage unless you know someone high up and they love you or you have family there already. there were 600 people interviewed in my area (my area is rediculously too big), not including the skype calls or interviews in another city and there are only 218 positions. at the hospital I want there's 69! And yet at my uni theres 1400 students! kinda messed up really huh. Oh and we don't have a NCLEX once we finish our degree we can get a job and get marked off all over again ugh!!! We also have rotations through wards so 6 months in 1 ward and 6 in another and sometimes we don't get a choice. we can put in preferences but that's it. With all that said I'm super keen to start nursing :D
@@theimmigrationinsights I was able to find a hospital job in July of 2021. I was referred to that job by the night shift charge nurse from my last job, which was a LTACH. I hate it haha
Hi! My nursing program consists of two years (which is considered accelerated, since most other nursing programs are three years from what I have heard). I bring this up because it did not allow for much flexibility when it came to working. I was not able to work as a CNA, but I did work as a tutor at my old job one summer. Can that be valuable to mention as well during an interview?
I’m in Washington state and we have many nurse residencies. I’m in community college nursing program, so we graduate students fall-spring. Some of the students who graduated already were hired for a residency before they graduated for the March residency cohort. I graduate this December and I am going to apply for the same hospital residency for March of 2021 for hopefully labor and delivery
Hi! do the letters of rec have to be specific to that hospital/unit? for example, does the person writing the letter have to mention why they think I am a good fit for the CICU (or whatever unit I am interested in)? or can I just use the same letters of rec from professors/clinical instructors?
Granddaughter will graduate 12 month ABSN course in 8 days. Got hired for two nurse grad residencies. She chose Houston Methodist mother baby. Grad date 12/18/2020.
some jobs don't require it, but the best way is to get a CNA license or your EMT certification. The ones that require education usually pay a little more and have more medical assistance involved.
@@stephly17 Congrats! How did it go? I'm looking into getting hired next year in LA and have been super worried. I live on the east coast and am not sure about the possibility of getting into new grad programs there.
