    Finally a nurse who takes care of their CNA’s!!! I’m a pca on a mother/baby unit but started on a trauma unit and babyyyyy let me tell you I did 6 months and was out because of how much nurses abuse their assistants. I understand we’re all busy but chasing me down to give the patient some water or a blanket is ridiculous😂😂 I just got accepted into nursing school so I pray to God I’m a good nurse ❤️

    • @TheArmedNurse
      @TheArmedNurse 3 года назад +17

      The nurses who will chase you down or wait for you to give water/blankets and clean up after the patient should NOT be nurses. They are doing this because they feel that those tasks are below them as an RN so they would rather let their patients wait for what they need, just because they have aides to get those things. I am in my third semester and almost done. My instructors have always taught me that nothing is below me as a nurse. If a patient needs to be cleaned up and an aide is not around, then I do it. Nurses who are delegate-happy are likely just nurses for the pay and prestige, not because they are passionate.

    • @DrMathOfficial
      @DrMathOfficial 2 года назад +2

      @@TheArmedNurse I agree. But i'll also add that nurses do that for even more malicious, evil and mentally ill reasons than just that lol. As I already started, some are just evil, malicious, and mentally ill, and that's why they're doing it. Some are jealous of the aid for whatever reason. Some are resentful towards the aid for whatever reason. But ultimately, all falling under the umbrellas of Evil, malicious or mentally ill lol. But yea, either way, none of them should be nurses (and if I have my way, we'll be eventually eliminating that from the nursing field 👍🏽).

    • @DrMathOfficial
      @DrMathOfficial 2 года назад

      And as for you @Jennifer, from what you shared here, it already seems like you would be (and/ or are) a great nurse lol. You already have at least SOME of the correct mindset that's needed. Only now have to make sure you have the Studious/ ""book smart" aspect covered lol. With that said, this comment was 11months ago, how's your nursing journey? Did you complete school? Did you have difficulties there and needed (or still need) help? Let me know 🙂

    Felt that “lil bit of common sense and book smarts” come on now!!!! Reached my 11th month as an ICU nurse and secured my first travel nurse assignment! Playing it lowkey by going to a smaller hospital from my level 2 trauma just to get my feet wet. Definitely feeling a little anxious about transitioning but, I know so many good things are on the other side of being uncomfortable 😩☺️

  • @JP-jp4xe
    @JP-jp4xe 2 года назад +20

    I’m a new nurse, about 1.5 years.
    I’m still working on my delegation skills… specifically with techs/CNA’s that have been in the profession longer than I’ve been alive. There seems to be a stigma around “new nurses” who “don’t wanna do anything”
    Or at least that’s what I hear them talk about when we delegate tasks to them 😩

    • @SincerelyShannonSubcribe
      @SincerelyShannonSubcribe  2 года назад +3

      Yea that was a task I had to get use to as well. On one hand I needed to know when to delegate but on the other hand it was like I can just do it myself. But if you’re a good nurse doesn’t matter what they you are or aren’t doing, as long as they do what you ask. It takes a team in the nursing world.

    Sometimes when I look away from the video and just listen, you sound like keke Palmer to me.🤗
    Anyway awesome video. I’m a new nurse (8 months in, per diem at a nursing home so far)
    However I’m Starting full time at the hospital next month. You helped ease some of my anxiety. I’m deathly afraid of looking stupid during a code. And like you I still don’t understand the body systems, medications, etc in its totality as embarrassing as it is to say. I understand that I’m still new and things will start clicking the more that I work, but patients and their families don’t care about that. They expect you to have expert level knowledge coming right out of nursing school which gives me anxiety😓. I’ve been in those situations where patients and other nurses make me feel dumb and I hate it. Now transitioning to the hospital I’m dreading this 😭😭

      I am an extern as well and it's the condescending nurses for me. They get one time with me and after that, I make the boundary known that it is unacceptable for them to speak to me in that manner. Just try to take what you can from it and just know that you are there to learn and if someone does not want to teach you then that shows more about them than you because at one point they did not know either. You got this! Also, keep a notebook with you and write down everything that you did not know, and just review it as you go along. For the life of me, I do not understand why some nurses think making you feel stupid is supposed to be some sort of motivator to make you better, I really don't get it.

    -Man, I'm so glad I watched this video. I'm starting as a new grad on tele (nights) in two weeks and I'm nervous. This video has great tips and I appreciate you! Biggest fears include not adapting fast enough and also not feeling supported by coworkers but I'm trying not to be negative about it and hopefully I will be in a supportive environment where I can adapt and thrive.

    I love this video. I am on my third week of working at a SNF. They only trained me 3 days and then gave me my own patients. I have never been so nervous in my life. I hate that I don’t know everything but like you said we are new and it will get better. Your words of encouragement mean so much to me although some nurses are not so nice even though I’m new and still haven’t gotten the giving report properly yet.

      It depends on the facility. A lot of hospitals are very cliquey and political. I have friends who are nurses, CNAs, medical assistants, etc. I am a medical assistant myself. There is definitely politics in certain environments, especially hospitals. You just need to know how to focus on yourself and your work without getting involved in it.

    Thank you queen. I’m a student, headed into my third term. I’m not a LPN and am a direct entry student. I am a MA but that is a totally different ballgame. I have one more clinical this week, that will be the completion of my second clinical and I won’t have another until my final term, 5th term. I can say I am confident in my classes, but not so much in my clinical as far as knowing what’s all going on. Im nervous….nervous about what I’ll be like as a new nurse post graduation. But what I can honestly say, im more nervous about orientating with nurses who don’t have my best interest at hand and showing my knowledge and that somehow I’ll be a “threat” or whatever you call it because of the book knowledge I have. As a black woman, living in a predominantly white nurse state, OHIO, im nervous that I will be “secretly” discriminated against and set up for failure. I have worked with nice nurses but I’m also very intuitive and can sense the difference that black student nurses can sometimes be treated with. Can you explain how you deal with being a black nurse and navigating a predominantly white field?

      Those feelings are normal. Take it one day at a time and allow yourself to be a sponge. Pray before you go and let God take care of the rest. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or for a new preceptor also if it turns out to not be a good fit. You got this💪🏾
