The year is 1907. It is 10 years after his disappearance from the Paris Opera House and the Phantom has escaped to a new life in New York where he lives amongst the screaming joy rides and freak-shows of Coney Island. In this new electrically-charged world, he has finally found a place for his music to soar. All that is missing is his love - Christine Daaé. Now one of the world’s finest sopranos, Christine is struggling in an ailing marriage to Raoul. So, it is with excitement she accepts an invitation to travel to New York and perform at a renowned opera house. In a final bid to win back her love, the Phantom lures Christine, her husband, and their young son Gustave from Manhattan; to the glittering and glorious world of Coney Island… not knowing what is in store for them…
For some reason, I find this highly entertaining... And when they were putting the white pieces of wet plaster or whatever it was, I was yelling, "It's a Ramummy!!!!"
You know the poor guy is thinking, "Please let it hurry up n be over with." He's a trooper for going through that.
The audio for this video has mostly been removed to avoid giving too much away, for full information on the process please visit the Love Never Dies blog (link given in information panel).
covering that face should be a crime punishable by law lol
I've actually had a face cast done for my acting mask making unit - it's really not so bad. We got nose straws so we can breathe and someone talking us through the process. It's actually extremely calm (though we were lying on a table) and relaxing, almost like a facial. It takes about half an hour, but it's honestly so relaxing. It peels right off and leaves your skin feeling good. Bad thing is if you're wearing anything on your face or don't use enough vaseline hair/makeup comes out with it.
"You can be the Phantom in Love Never Dies, but you have to do this"
See what he's did for us Phantom fans?!
What a trooper.
No. This is how they create a model of his head. One time thing. The actual makeup prosthesis is built on the model and then probably glued to his face each night.
Oh my! Although these artists work very quick, I would still be terrified! A lot of respect for Ramin and any other actors who undergo this procedure. It's the whole unable to move, see or hear anything experience that would freak me out. Let alone the fear of accidently getting my nose full with that stuff.
To bad the sound doesn't work most of the time. Knowing what these artists have to say and explain what they're doing would perhaps help me find it less scary.
But again: lot's of respect
Its so sad seeing that beaitful face being covered
Ohmygod ohmygod. The entire time I was watching this I was finding it hard to breathe. Props to you Ramin, I would not have say there! Love him as Phantom though :)
Omg, I'm even wondering what went through Ramin's mind, as they were covering his entire face the whole time, with wet plasters and all of that blue goop?
he must really love that role if he's willing to go through all this misery.
What if he has to sneeze? :p
THat's gonna be so claustrophbic!!!
That would freaking suck!!! Poor Ramin! Suffering for the arts!!
This is so AMAZING!!! Ramin has such courage to go through all of this! It's ASTONISHING!!! Scary, but GREAT!!!
I would get SO claustrophobic!! Props to you, Ramin!
aw my little baby!
man! that is fantastic. he is one brave man. i would freak out if something like that was on my face! kudos to Ramin :)
What... on.. earth!?
How does he BREATHE!?
I've had this done to my face, and it's actually kinda fun, but when it comes off, it is so bright out!
RESPECT
i loved watching this exspeacially cuz its got ramin in it
I feel so bad for Ramin in this moment... how long did this take??
LMAO, I'm being silly, but I can't help but be amused when they keep clearing the blue stuff away from his nostrils. Seriously, though, even with the nostrils unclogged, I'd feel like I was suffocating with all of that stuff on my face and head.
I could not sit still for that long! LOL the guy in the red reminds me of Mark from rent...
Dang! Just pray you don't have to sneeze.
That looks so intense! Wow! I didn't know they needed to do a cast of the entire head.
Just...Perfect...
@marissacapri11 You carefully work around the nostrils, leaving the airway clear. It is never a good idea to use straws as these can become dislodged or worse, knocked up into the nasal cavity by accident.
Clear nostrils and airways are the priority, and once the alginate has set (in about three minutes) and stops moving, the nostrils remain unaffected. besides, if a person was unable to breath (as when they have a cold or blocked nose) you can either breath through the mouth.

Ohh, yes, very brave - I'd be utterly claustrophobic after 5 minutes!!
For quite some time, I thought they wanted to cast him in Avatar 2...
I just wished that this came with sound. I love watching these videos and this is really an education peice for me. but i just wish the sound was all the way through the video. Thank you lot for posting these. Keep them coming and I hope you never close down. That the show continues on forever. Both Phantom of the Opera and Phantom: love never dies. God Bless.
Oh my god! Poor Ramin! :O
That looked really cool. I wonder how long it takes.
whats with the sound? or is that just my computer?
That is so crazy how they do that! I don't know if i could sit through that, but I guess if it's only a one time thing then you just go with it.
It's in the description.
He's such a trooper! I love him
oh lordy I would FREAK OUT with that stuff on my face. Mr Karimloo is a much more tolerant soul than I!
This is what it feels like to be mummified!
Wow plaster of paris? for real?!
This is Way Too Cool!!!!
bless him!! he looks a bit like a smurp with the blue stuff.. but oh my isn't he dishy mmm this is so clever! x
how d'you breathe?! I don't see any nose straws!!
LOVE LND!
mmm, ive heard that the story isn't great, but the music is. i can't wait to see the show. however, i should warn that phantom of manhattan wasn't such a great book xD
Thank you person with sense! I AGREE TOTALLY. I think it's going to be good! I think Mr. Webber can totally do this and make it just as awesome as the first!
wow....amazing!
hey coool they're mod-rocking his head
Dude had to do this every day? Whoa! My respect for him just tripled!
I'm so clausterphobic there's just NO way I could do that. Just another reason to adore all men who play the phantom.
Phantom prosthetic for Love Never Dies.
Awww I hope he could breathe!
That is something!
So this is how you make Smurfs
@AnimalLuva2010 That's exactly what I thought LOL! Ramin didn't flinch though!
Wow! That's some serious molding--cheers to Ramin for staying so CALM. Ack, my neck would be KILLING me after the first few minutes...but then, I can't even wear a turtleneck without pain. xD;
Majorly looking forward to LND--it's going to be brilliant. =D
this is so cool!
it's like watching the making of a smurf :)))
This looks excrutiating
yes

its not an easy job to be a phantom!!!
Gosh how is that possible to ramin to not get bored lol
wow!? he's probably or of course he's gonna look amazing (for a disfigured person!) but in this video he goes from the smurf of the opera to the mummy of the opera so i'll be excited to see what he will look like when his "transformation" is complete ;D
That looks like a lot of fun...unless you are the one in the chair! I'd love to be able to make up and stuff like that!
no this is the casting process, they only have to cast his head once and then they can make the prostetics off of that mold
Did he have to do this each and every time or was this for the original molding of his face for the mask? I mean, sheeeesh! There ain't NO WAY I could do that more than once!
me estoy agobiando ver esto D: Poor Ramin!
@CaelahBethyBear
I'm assuming to make the mask, you have to do it all around to avoid cracks when trying to peel it off again.
I would not be able to handle this.
TP the phantom!!!!!!!
This video stops at 5:33 for many people, and it's really ticking me off. Could you fix this, please?
it's a good thing they only need to do theis once and for those who asked if the makeup is similar to the original -yup!!
So all that just for the bit of disfiguration on the side of his face? Because that's the only part that the mask covers, right? Oh bless you, Ramin!
@musicalsterinspe no it's not that long. I do life casts myself.. they were 3 to work on it so it must have gone really fast. the alginate takes about 8 min to dry and the plaster.. maybe up to 15 min.. so about half and hour in tho mold for the guy max... not 2 hours
Wow. I thought getting my teeth molded was scary.
read the description dude
Phantom initiation.
There's no audio for me.
Imagine getting that blue stuff in your eyes... ouch!
wow
he is undergoing a lifecast I do them all the time it takes about 30-40 minutes and the guy doing it is expert Neil gorton and he is breathing through his nose and it's really relaxing and not scary they do this so they could have his lifecast so they could sculpt his phantom makeup
sound just randomly decides to kick in after 2 minutes of silence...
is there no sound?
I want my own phantom mask. :) Can I hire Mould Life to make me one?
@EmilyGreene1984 it is a mold so they can create an easier way to put the scars on every night
If you think about it, he's probably used to it because they probably do the same thing for Phantom too.
I played the Phantom in high school and i used basically the same thing he is and it really sucks! only mine wasn't so complex
yup
hoo-ray for sound! at 6:40..!
is there supposed to be sound???
No this is just the initial cast to make the prothstetic
is this just a LND thing or does every phantom in POTO have to go through this too?
What is that blue stuff?
oh my gosh.. how does he breathe?
@dobrall When it comes to making masks and moulds of faces, they keep holes for their nostrils. So he's breathing out of his nose. The whole time they're making sure he has an airway for his nose. I've done it, it's annoying but it works :)
ONE-HUNDRED-TENTH comment! LOVE Love Never DIes! Oh, and Sierra of course!
