My favorite fish ever, is the alligator gar. Very good video. Me and the wife love garfish boullettes. Keep posting videos of of this dinosaur. I love it,
I enjoy your videos , lived in South Louisiana for over 30 years, very familiar with the alligator gar, while I appreciate the effort these guys put into their trade I’d rather watch em catch another fish, large alligator gar can be 50 years old, the females do not spawn yearly, the spawn is dictated by water conditions, only two states the gar is in abundance are Texas and Louisiana, I get it’s a limited commercial fishery, but taking 30 fish a day regardless of size is a shame, reminds me of the redfish over fishing in the 80’s, almost wiped the reds out in Louisiana, these are two great guys , obvious they work hard and represent a way of life, I’d rather watch them catch catfish than those alligator gar….I have eaten bbq gar steaks with Louisiana Jack Miller bbq sauce, was delicious…. I do appreciate you presenting Louisiana hunting and fishing in an honest manner
@@OutsidetheLevees it isnt good here, we dont have 1/100th of your water. I want out. I want to move to Slidell. Hope they did something about the pogies. We have almost none in NE Florida, which equals no fish! And we banned all inshore netting years ago.
Hello great video. Love watching your videos. Can you do a finish of what they do to them. I got a question im going to be building a truck camper and car hauling trailer. How much would you charge to make me a few of your logo stickers in a 2'×2' size to put on the camper and trailer. Im wanting to do a favorite youtubers space on them.
Hey brother. I will eventually do a catch and cook garfish. I explained a little about what they do with them., but basically they clean them out and the buyer picks them up. The cleaning process isn't reallt RUclips friendly. If you shoot me an email I can send you the logo file to get printed. That'll be awesome and I really appreciate it. outsidethelevees@gmail.com
Me and my wife are headed to Hopedale on the 12th of June to stay for 4 days. Her first experience in the marsh…gonna be a blast! Looks like a damn fun time running those jugs!
A friend of mine - Ricky Verret - fishes for gar down Bayou Dularge- he posted a u tube video of him cleaning gar - he lives about a mile from my house- LSU hired him and filmed the video - LSU wanted the roe - very interesting and something to see
Use to be called a nusense around here in Tx, could catch as many as you wanted, shoot with the bow till your boat was full. Never messed with them until cpl yrs ago when I found out how tasty they are. Then last yr put a one a day limit and have to report any you keep. Slot less water here then there, but glad they got protected. They are a blast to catch.
Are alligator gar like most other species in that the bigger they are the less palatable they are? I ask because while I lived down in Springfield we would go fishing a lot. I saw a man with a big alligator gar that said at that size they were only good for gar balls.
Their populations are declining. That is one reason you don’t see the monster Gar like you once did. They are caught once in a blue moon. Most states are instituting more restrictive size and bag limits especially during breeding season.
This has been a fun video and very interesting, as well. Do they also sell the skin/scales? I have never seen your videos before, but was watching BlueGabe, saw your video and subscribed to your channel. For some reason, RUclips doesn't let me see videos, so I have to look videos up for myself, which isn't too much trouble when I like them
I've wondered about the skin also, after watching Deer meat for dinner clean one with you. The skin looks really tough. I used to live in Alaska, and a guy up there got the idea of tanning salmon skins and making things with the leather. Wallets, purses and such. They were unique with the scale pattern, and I saw them around for a while, but they must not have caught on. With the toughness of Gar skin, you'd think they could make boots out of it.
It's kinda tough man but the right tools make a difference. I might do a video just about that. RUclips gives us a hard time about showing blood and guts so I didn't want to put that here.
so let me get this straight....(coming from someone who eats alot of catfish).....you just caught fiddler size catfish to use as "Bait" for Gar.....and yea i have eaten gar...is there another reason to catch gar, because being here from southern Indiana...i would of stopped at a 100 catfish
I read somewhere that the knot in the wire is called a “Haywire twist”,,, I dunno, but I’ve used it and never had a problem. Really love hook and line commercial fishing. No by catch, no history of over fishing with a hook and line operation. If this is done right, I hope we are doing this in 100 years, and that the fishing is the same as it is today. Its the deep water dragging that kills and destroys everything... not sustainable.
@@OutsidetheLevees of all the crap they let on RUclips it's a damn shame you can't show something as simple as that. Love your channel one of the best fishing channels out there
I appreciate the cuts in the video for the head hammering.
This was cool & informative. Definitely a skill to acquire once society breaks down Lbs
Love the commercial fishing stories.
Glad you like them!
Great video! My family loves smoked gar and garfish balls deep fried.
They really are good to eat
Love the channel, I’m a Florida boy who lives the same kind of lifestyle. You got a new Fan!
Appreciate you bruh. We gonna do some Florida videos once I start earning a little more on the channel. Much love
That was awesome!!!! I’m from south Louisiana but live in Natchitoches la now so love watching what I grew up doing
Hell yeah man
Would you believe that's pronounced nack-a-tish? I love Louisiana. 😄
great video, wish that you had included them being cleaned
I don't show any cleaning on my channel for fear of demonetization from RUclips. Sorry!
too many soft snowflakes will cry on RUclips... they act as if the slaughter house is nicer on animals lol
@@OutsidetheLevees just a suggestion...
u could make a channel for how to clean and gut animals!
@@OutsidetheLevees That's a shame. It's interesting to watch a garfish cleaning and cooking.
hell yeah, Jared. good stuff. i thought you were gonna cook some. :P
Next time for sure.
Great sport
The big boys are a job
That was a cool video. It did teach us how to rig up for gar. Thanks for going out with the guys to share their lifestyle with us.

How do you find all the jugs with wind and current and
They found almost all of them!

I would say so

Where do they get the metal leaders from ?
It’s just a roll of metal wire
Looks like a fun day!
it was wild for sure

WHAT KIND OF WIRE IS THAT THEY ARE USING AS A LEADER?
It’s like steel wire they use on barbed wire fence
Jug fishing for gar, kick in the pants. Damn fine table fare!
Amen to that
