When I got it up, I noticed I caught a small catfish. Holding onto that catfish was an alligator gar! I rolled the line a few feet and the gar whipped its head around and snapped my line. My stepdad was there and said it looked to be around 6 1/2 to 7 feet long! he said if he wasn't there to witness it, he wouldn't believe it.

@Raymund Turner that ultimately depends on who you ask, the size of the fish you want, and how much time you have. If you're good with a 30-40lb fish, the Lake Livingston spillway is a pretty easy place to pick one up. If you want something pushing 75-100lb, Buffalo Bayou, which runs right through Houston, holds plenty of good ones. You can literally catch them in the downtown area. But if you want a giant, a 7 foot plus gar, you gotta find good spots on big rivers like the Trinity, Brazos, or San Jacinto.
