When you're bayou fishing, there's always the chance you are going to catch a monster. But sometimes you catch a dangerous one. In this episode I go fishing for the biggest catfish and alligator gar Houston has to offer, but I end up catching some else first. Something truly giant.

Definitely got ur workout that day, getting in shape and enjoying fishing lol
Man wildlife be putting in the work! Dirty and crazy situations borderline sketch to get the content! Much appreciated! Keep pumping out videos!
Amazing video and great commentary to go with the action. Your videos catching those huge water animals are awesome. Thank you for taking us along on your adventures thru your channel. Always entertaining and educational to watch !
Great stuff dude great fishing a lot of action and not a lot of drama ... thanks for sharing stay safe
great video! all those catches we're beast, great job bringing those in.
Alligator snapping turtles get huge!
Absolutely amazing, what great content, literally giving knowledge, and a real look into the creatures that inhabit the waters of planet earth till this present day. Great job SIR!
Nice catches. I was a U of H photographer in the late 80s and early 90s and remember when the Houston Zoo drained the alligator/turtle pond for maintenance. They took measurements of a snapper that was enormous, 200+ pounds. I got it on film, good times!
My wife and I both worked for the Houston Zoo (she still does). If you have photos of that I would love to see them!
Man ,you earn my respect ❕❕(work hard)❗❗
Great to have you back my friend! That snapper was amazing! Off the top of my head, you've caught #150 gars, rays, turtles, and sharks if I'm not mistaken. Perhaps one day, you could compile all of your biggest catches into one Giants of Houston style video! Now you just need a #150 catfish!
I'm learning from you, and am being entertained at the same time. Like a training video. Beautiful Gar, Hon, worth watching over & over 💪💪💪💪👍👍👍
Great Video! I moved away from south Louisiana 38 years ago and haven't seen an alligator snapper or gar since. Thanks!
First time I've seen your videos, great job!. Not to mention the monsters you pulled in. Keep up the fun and great views. 👍
That was and is frekin' awesome! God Bless you man.
Holy smokes. That snapping turtle was massive. Started off ruff but finished greatly 👍
BIG DAWG KEEP IT GOING!!!!! LOVE TO SEE IT!!
Dang! Those snapping turtles sure are prehistoric! Beasts, not mere "animals". Amazing to my city-eyes!!!
14:23 .... I think that's the largest alligator snapping turtle I've ever seen 😳
I’m afraid to hook one of these dudes. I wouldn’t know how to unhook it. I hate the thought of a sophisticated 80 year old individual living in misery, bleeding, unable to eat and ultimately infected with that hook embedded in its mouth. I know these are accidental catches but I wish it wouldn’t happen.
I do know of a study done at Careleton Lab where hooks were deliberately put in pikes’s mouths and the vast majority were later found removed. The pike were able to remove them. Barbless hooks were more consistently removed by the pike so I use those whenever possible.
Love this channel! Good work.
Definitely one of the biggest gator snappers I've ever seen and I completely understand what it's like to accidentally snag one of those beasts! Glad you finally got a gator gar too! Good vid much appreciated, glad I came across this! Subscribed!
Great Video -- Quality product
Down town Houston has good fishing 🔥
It sure does
Lol, that turtle looked at you like damn young man ain’t you ever seen a big turtle!!! Lol! Good job bro!
What a great day. Wish I could’ve been there. Stories for a lifetime!
That was a fantastic video!!!
The content, the length of the video & the size of the monsters that you catch!!!
Top class........
🎣😎🐟
Leaping lizard's ! What a crazy day. I got exhausted just watching you. 🐢
I live in south Houston and I moved here from London 3 1/2 years ago. My main fishing there was for specimen carp/catfish. But since Ive lived here I really got into saltwater fishing. But Ive watched all of your vids and you inspired me to give it a go for a big gar. I got no idea of where to fish but went to Buffalo Bayou armed with fresh mullet chunks and my 1st 'fish' was a MASSIVE snapping turtle. Scared the crap out of me! But managed to unhook/release it OK. 5 minutes in my 2nd cast I caught a alligator gar longer than me and Im 6'3". My wife was going crazy at sight of it. I would like to do more this year but got no idea of spots to try. I know youve worked hard and spent years finding great spots and dont want those secret spots. But would appreciate a vid with say 5 areas around Houston that we could catch a nice Gar. If you dont ask you dont get haha EDIT: I dont get notified about new vids. I have the same problem with notifications for my channel too. RUclipss not always good like that.
imagine fishing in europe where the most dangerous animal you could catch is a duck
@@dgt6355 Well we do have Pike in England to 60 Lb but I hear ya mate. Took the wife out 2 weeks ago and she caught a over slot redfish. But she only managed to bring in its head. Mr toothy decided he wanted a quick snack. Scared shit out of the Mrs haha
Ur fishing dude! Be it stripers, catfish, strippers, you're fishing!! I love top water for large mouth bass, but I'm getting old! Drifting for blue cats?!!
Anahuac is a good place to catch big gar. It’s about an hour east of Houston
Most people don't realize what a huge state Texas is! Back in the 90's my best friend lived in Elpaso. His first assignment (he's a retired FBI agent) was Siapan and he decided to take anything to get back stateside! I called him from the welcome center to let him know I just crossed the state line and he replied, "you're not 1/2 way yet!!" I live 70 mile south of Charlotte, NC!
Those snappers OMG! I wouldnt want to walk in that water. We have snapping turtles up here in 🇨🇦 but the biggest I've seen is maybe 60 pounds. Great video!
Gotta be one of my favorite channels
Thanks!
You can count the rings on the bottom side of its shell to get an idea of age, also by measuring its shell, 3 inches for the first year and 1 inch per year after that.
@@drshin9893 this is youtube so I can't necessarily show you anything, but I promise you that you can count the rings on the bottom of their shell, go ahead and look for yourself, this method doesn't work well as the turtles get older and their lines fade together but it will work well on juveniles for sure! Do a little research before you try correcting people with your opinion I literally did 2 papers on snapping turtles in North America while earning my bachelor's in biological science...
That second snapper was Huge, enjoyed this adventure with you, Subscribed and look forward to wherever you take me… Be safe
Karen New Orleans Louisiana ❤️🎣🎣🎣✌🏼
What a beast!
PB Snapper.
I'll hold pretty much anything out there...but I won't hold that... (You can sing that to the Meatloaf song)
Took me a minute to recognize the song but then it hit me 🤣
Got a good laugh out of that
LOL!!!
Great video and catches! Amazing creature. What power lights and tripod do you use for night fishing? I feel like the predators come out more at night to hunt, so night fishing can be so much more productive especially as we approach the warmer weather and then summer.
Thanks!
I use two gopro hero 8 black. The light I use is the Litratorch 2.0. Short battery life but super bright and is incredibly small and easy to pack. I actually don't carry a tripod since I move so much and/or get to rough spots. I just make use of sticks and or trees to mount lights.
Dude your like one step away from the leather crocodile Dundee hat. So wild
Oh yeaaaaaaa
I know they have caught alligator snappers that had spear points and arrowheads in their shells! So yeah they can be ancient old! Amazing creatures and are federally protected animals!!
Such a good video! That hook will come out over time?
Turtle soup!
Nice catch.
Thanks!
Dude you are crazy!
Buen Video, Magnífica pesca de Tortuga, Saludo Fraterno, muchas Tortugas en ese lugar,
April fool's, I know u placed those there. you almost got me lol jk. Great vid as always, been getting big blues in trout line last couple of days
How did you get the hook out of the snapping turtle?
He didn’t he cut the line
i mean i aint no wildlife tree hugger but ude think hed take the hook out if hes catching turtles.. probably swallowed it whole tho.. prob infect the intestines and die slowely.. shoulda just lobbed its head off instead of putting it back
@@motorbreathjz Maybe, but they _can_ survive, especially the bigger ones. It's a tough call because those turtles can take fingers or worse. He at least cut the line as close as he could which is as much as you could ask for when they're that size.
That's the biggest turtle of its kind I've ever seen, on or off camera. 💪💪💪😅
You should see if TSA (turtle survival alliance) can get you a pit tag reader or invest in one yourself to see if these ASTs have been caught before or not to help aid in the research they are doing on Buffalo bayou. Reach out to me and I can get you in touch with them.
Never seen any one fish with cooked 🦞 crawfish give that a go I would love to see it dine first by you 🎣💪🏽
Man that a trophy catch
Monsters living in the city!
Amazing wow where are you fishing
With old turtles the growth rings can be hard to see...i don't know the growth rate of alligator snappers but I'd bet that 2nd one was 80 - 100yrs old.
Hellofa workout, young man! 👍🐢
Great video. Please list the tackle you used in the description.
GREAT CATCH BRO!
Thanks!
Gotta love fighting 4 wheel drive.... been there, done that many times
I'd love to catch some gator gars. Here all we have is needlenose gar. I've never seen a gator gar accept on video or in pictures. I have seen some big snappers though. Them turtles are something else. In all good catches bro, God bless...
The commitment with the light over his mouth. 🤣
Would love to see how you setup your rigs and the gear you're fishing with.
Working on a Big video with that in it 👍
Fishing for LM and SM bass off the rocky point of an island I got a bite three times, each time I could not pull anything my way and then it pulled and snapped the line quickly. Later I thought it might be a snapper.
Big snapper.
I need to hit up this spot. Love your videos bro.
Where is it?
excellent video
Thanks!
man do u catch big fish!!
Damn that's a big snapper
I'm not a Herpetologist either but I took it in College and being a Fish guy I frequently encounter Reptiles & Amphibians. All I can tell you is it's older than both us combined. Estimates are just that- educated guesses. I can say it's a she being that big. Most Animals growth slows down dramatically at a certain point as well as nutritional availability.
All I can say is wow I've never seen anything like that before
Damn you caught Michelangelo! 🐢
Awesome footage!! Those were some big loggerheads. Would like to try targeting alligator gar using rod and reel in the near future. I’ve been learning a lot of techniques from your videos, and will adapt them to fishing from a boat. Fishing area will be the lower Red River, Atchafalaya, and Mississippi River in Louisiana.
I have wrangled turtles for years. These large snappers will take fingers off if you are not careful. The rope you
used is fine but awkward. Next time you are fishing and catch one, find a large stick and place it in his mouth.
He'll clamp down on it and you can drag him out a lot easier than the rope. Give it a try. Just have a stick handy
before you start fishing just in case. Greg
Waaauuu big..
Do big fish fishing in Galveston!!
I'm wondering how much the biteforce would be from such a turtle ??? I think it is a lot , the pieces with the turtles I skip. Arent there anny alligators or snakes ??
Hey I would love going fishing with you man cool deal
He studied that sh#t down to a Science. ( Salute )
ill give you credit for a big turtle..i do wish i knew about the rope thing when i was garfishing..
im gonna start gar fishing agin..51 inch long nose my record...but darn if i didnt lose one that looked like monster laughing at me when it spit bait looking at me after a 40 minute fight ...
River monster
Hi I saw youre shark catch and trip of 24 hours , But still I like youre GAR vids the best !!! this turteles give me the creeps ....
That was hugh , I noticed when you reel in the turtle you jerk the rod several times very hard , that maybe the reason the hook pop out . I'm totally afraid of the snapping turtles
I've caught some big fish at white oak bayou
I'd venture to say that last turtle you could possibly be 165lbs
Was that 150 pound snapping turtle an alligator snapping turtle or a regular snapping turtle
Alligator snapping turtle
I do remember a fish that I caught at the Buffalo River it looked like a carp and a Buffalo but I could not notice anything resemblance to the two different types of fish the leangh of the fish was 2 feet and 3 inches and in the width of the fish's head was 3 inches and the fish waid 2 pounds
I wanna see you go shark fishing on the surf
Please tell me you rinsed all the mud off your gear after this session. 😃
That old geezer was one of the biggest turtles I think I’ve seen on RUclips I’ve seen only one or two of equal size in southern Virginia and one of them was in the newspaper it had Civil War bullets in it absolutely incredible
second turtle was without a doubt over 80 years old... just a monster
Where do you catch your bait?
I was fishing a abandoned golf course in Southern AZ & I seen a turtle that was as big as the hood of my truck. It was ugly, smelled like a bog, had bullet holes in it's shell & looked like a giant rock just living it's incredibly long life in 6ft of water. Never seen anything like it b4.
I'm starting to love this garfishing, is there a different between a Gar and a alligator Gar ??? or are they both the same ???
There are several species of gar, alligator gar are the largest
@@wildlifefishingshow Hi again, I gonna look it up on google. It is realy a magnifecent fish . I used to fish on mirror and carp whole my life. So I can immagen if you hook a big Gar it looks like you hooked a train 😀. When is the gar season begins? Thanks for ansewering my questions , And even i'm now fishing for 30 years I still learn a lot from you. thanks ..... dont know youre name !? Youre great .
I like to use tilapia for gar
Probably the best bait for them
One time I caught an Alligator gar, Alligator snapping turtle and an Alligator all at the same time on a Tenkara rod 🤣
You can eat a snapping turtle
Protected species
Deermeat did a catch and cook on one, it looked absolutely disgusting!!!
upside down returning joyest goals kept goals of them all got grant
Sucks for the turtle having hook stay in mouth, but yeah I would want to keep my hand attached as well lol
Yeah, I thought and thought about how to get it out but couldn't come up with a solution that didn't end with those jaws chopping something. Luckily the Team Catfish hooks I use rust incredibly fast.
@@wildlifefishingshow a 2 inch solid metal bar might come in handy to get the hook out off turtles mouth.
Big snapper
Good night men
Worra turtle!!😨😨😨
What do you like more the ugly stick Tiger rod or the big cat fever rod?
Big Cat Fever, though they each have their drawbacks. The Tiger has one of the best handle lengths of any casting rod but is only 7 feet total. Would love it to be 7 feet 6 inches or 8 feet (ideal). The Big Cat Fever is a softer action and can handle pretty much anything but have a very short handle length.
First time I've ever seen someone lasso a snapping turtle. Jeez, I couldn't imagine trying to save a hook from the mouth of a snapping turtle.
Yeah, I just couldn't think of how else to move it
It was good thinking and worked, that looked exhausting lol.
I stumbled on your channel and really love your enthusiasm and the respect you show for all these creatures you come across. Will enjoy going through your videos. Safe travels 🙏
@@redacted8092 I appreciate it 👍
Genuine question… I’m not sure the regulation for gar and catfish there but why wouldn’t u just use a big treble hook… hookup ratio would probably be better.. it would be worse for the fish tho… what’s ur take on it?
I'm exclusively a catch and release guy for gar, as they are still a very vulnerable species. Treble hooks require letting gar completely swallow the hook, making it nearly impossible to unhook them. Circle hooks actually work really well when you adapt the technique somewhat (I'm making a video on this) and can be completely removed. Since I want the fish to live I avoid Treble hooks, even if it means I miss a few here and there.
@@wildlifefishingshow I love that man! Someone who cares… I agree I just wanted to hear ur take on it… I do a lot of shark fishing in the gulf so I understand the pains and the advantages of circle hooks. Great vids man keep um comint
And THAT is why no one swims in the river.
