      Who hasn't caught a 900 pound bass. Most of the ones I catch are by using 50 pound shiners and size 30 Ott circle hooks. The hardest part is casting my Penn international gold reel with 1000 pound test line further than about 2 feet. Those 1000 oz lead sinkers help a bit.

    As a kid in Illinois, we would fish with live mice for bass. A large weedless hook rubber banded ( those used on braces ) under a mouse. Float it on a stick to where you want him ( edge of the lilly pads ), and jerk him off. A SWIMMING MOUSE GAINED IMMEDIATE HITS! If you were lucky, the band would break so you could catch another.

    When I was a "Keeper" at a zoo, I ordered chicks (baby chickens) to feed to our raptors (eagles, owls & hawks.) They came like that, frozen solid in a plastic bag in a corrugate box. I had to take them out of the freezer the day before so that they would be thawed for the birds to eat. I did not worry. I knew that I would see them again when the owls regurgitated their "Owl Pellets!" 😉

With their tantalizing scent and irresistible allure, they lure the behemoths from the depths, offering anglers a chance to wrestle with giants. And yeah as far as fish eating whatever, I’ve seen flatheads nabb all different kinds of things off the top of the water, blue’s too and largemouth bass, they’ll grab anything they think they can get in their mouth. I’ve know all three of the fore mentioned fish will grab a snake, baby ducklings, mice, rats, small turtles, birds, etc etc etc. and I’m sure a gar, about any Gar, will take whatever too. Be less squeamish. A mouse a rubber band and a treble hook fished in Lilly pad will get the best surface strikes on bass.

      @@wildlifefishingshow Not upset. Do you always see a problem where none exist? Just saying a live rat or mouse might catch something useful like a bass or catfish.

    Your bank looks like my parents river bank
    I wait until the river goes down in like The end of May and I weedwack a trail down there except just the very end.
    This way no one knows there is a path up there and is tempted to walk up from the river

    What’s up with all the dead fish where you got the gar

    • @wildlifefishingshow
      @wildlifefishingshow  2 месяца назад

      Not sure, I have to look into that. The water level dropped very suddenly and loads of dust started flowing downstream, creating what I believe to be a hypoxic environment in the narrow section of the bayou upstream. I need to look into why that happened.

    Funny you would worry about the quality of the rats when all the garbage you walked thru goes into the river, the fish are more contaminated than the bait!

      No I understand u wouldn't use garbage as bait, I just couldn't believe there was so much trash in and around that waterways. I'm from a town in PA and we have litter but not like that. I was just shocked at the sight of it. That was a beautiful gar though!

It’s my current PB too and not gonna lie I don’t think I’ll ever catch one as big, it was the end of a bass tournament and I showed up to hang out with family and it was on my 1-2nd cast I thought I was snagged for a second lol
