DISCLAIMER: this longer unedited footage (the fight anyway). I've wanted to catch a giant ray for years now, so this was a special moment for me.
SO, I decided to leave things as they were, not as I wished the looked. This was a bit emotional for me at moments and I want to preserve that vulnerability, not hide it. That includes some more language than usual and my mistake of keeping the fish out a bit longer than I should have (it was fine in the end).

Thx for leaving the raw aspects intact. There were moments early on that I wondered if it was going to be worth it. Despite the title, I still wondered if you were actually going to land it. I was intrigued enough to find out but didn’t want to skip to the end….didn’t want to lose the impact of the real experience. Wondered if you might be able to eat it but definitely glad that you returned it to the water. It battled well ! Great job in catching it…wonderful video

Wow just seeing this out of the box ruclips.net/user/postUgkxQr1yd4Zc6qJF-scTB6Zb9dQbVpviuRxB recommend I have yet to fish with this set up, but based on the first hands on appeal, I can tell this is going to change the way i pack and carry to a whole new level. If you fish like i do, you know the smaller and less stuff the better. I’ve added a photo of just some of my gear so you can see how serious i am about fishing.

Mate this reminded me so much of me catching a ray that size off the beach in Goa India. 2am pitch black, 12 foot - 2 1/2lb test curve carp rod, small Shimano Baitcaster with 20lb line with a UK size 2 carp hook and bit of squid. I was with a local friend who was jumping up and down screaming making me even more nervous. But somehow and with a lot of help from my mate wading out to help drag it in. After over a hour I landed it. I took it to the local school that Ive helped out for years and they filleted it and gave it out. Those rays just stick to the bottom like a wet sack.

I caught a huge one when I was about 9 or 10 in Delaware, on a shark fishing charter . It was massive . Looked like it was 5 or 6 feet wide . We had to cut the line because obviously they couldn’t get it in the boat but man was it big

I caught one like that when I was a kid,I was in a Popular Mechanics plywood jon boat that my Dad and Grandfather built for me.I had it on a solid boat rod and I didn't really fight it that much, it just towed me all over the flats, till it was tired and I could reel it in. Nobody believed me except for my dad and Pop, I must have been 11 or 12, this was in Islamorada ,Fla in the early 60s My one and only Nantucket Sleigh ride! That was beyond epic! Very cool to see a ray that size. I'm amazed that the hook didn't straighten & break, or the line didn't break! That is a catch of a lifetime for sure. So glad you got a vid. The biggest fish I ever caught was a 40 lb. salmon on the Sacramento Delta at Rio Vista. The tide was going out (very strong outgoing surge) into the San Francisco Bay. Not a huge fish. But with that outgoing tide. It may as well been an 80 lb. salmon! I fought it for 50 minutes. Just as I got it close enough to net it, my arms & back gave out completely. My beloved Firefighter Buddies stepped in and got it on board. Not bad for a 93 lb. Woman! Woohoo! Fish for everybody! Normally I catch & release, but I was a starving college student; it was delicious. We cut it into steaks, and I smoked some of it. It was beyond thrilling! I still hold the record of the largest catch of Shad on the American River (Sacramento area, 1987). Again, as I was a "hungry" college student, I took it home and smoked it, yummers! They are a very boney fish (fine bones), but smoked makes them edible. I haven't been fishing in a few years; sure do miss it! My favorite fishing: trout fishing on the Truckee River on Hwy. 89 between Truckee & Tahoe City. I've also caught some fairly large Lake Trout off the banks of North Lake Tahoe (Incline Village). Most of those trout range 10-12-14 inches. Although, I've caught a few 16-18 inch trout there! All of them were delicious! Yes, I do a lot of catch & release there, but heck, who will turn down pristine trout for dinner?!? I've just discovered your utube site and subbed immediately. I'm certain you needed a few days of recovery after landing that big ray. Many thanks for sharing your awesome catch; I'll be looking for more vids from you. OUTSTANDING catch 😃 ❤
