DISCLAIMER: this longer unedited footage (the fight anyway). I've wanted to catch a giant ray for years now, so this was a special moment for me. SO, I decided to leave things as they were, not as I wished the looked. This was a bit emotional for me at moments and I want to preserve that vulnerability, not hide it. That includes some more language than usual and my mistake of keeping the fish out a bit longer than I should have (it was fine in the end).
Thx for leaving the raw aspects intact. There were moments early on that I wondered if it was going to be worth it. Despite the title, I still wondered if you were actually going to land it. I was intrigued enough to find out but didn’t want to skip to the end….didn’t want to lose the impact of the real experience. Wondered if you might be able to eat it but definitely glad that you returned it to the water. It battled well ! Great job in catching it…wonderful video

Great video...I was feeling the adrenaline myself towards the end of the fight. I think even people bothered by stronger language will understand, you did an amazing job in a pretty intense battle. Awesome!
Mate this reminded me so much of me catching a ray that size off the beach in Goa India. 2am pitch black, 12 foot - 2 1/2lb test curve carp rod, small Shimano Baitcaster with 20lb line with a UK size 2 carp hook and bit of squid. I was with a local friend who was jumping up and down screaming making me even more nervous. But somehow and with a lot of help from my mate wading out to help drag it in. After over a hour I landed it. I took it to the local school that Ive helped out for years and they filleted it and gave it out. Those rays just stick to the bottom like a wet sack.

Awesome video. I just caught a small stingray out in bolivar it actually had babies while I had it hooked which was amazing to see first hand. I can’t imagine catching a creature like that MASSIVE
I caught a huge one when I was about 9 or 10 in Delaware, on a shark fishing charter . It was massive . Looked like it was 5 or 6 feet wide . We had to cut the line because obviously they couldn’t get it in the boat but man was it big

That's an experience we've shared... Catching the big fish on the light rod... I'm sure I've hooked more than one bull shark and lost it on the light tackle... Never caught a ray that big, just a couple dinner plate sized ones. I hear the little ones make good shark bait..
Awesome ray! I caught my first one few weeks back. A baby compared to yours but I got barbed..let me tell you that pain was excruciating for about an hour lol

Remember I waded out there to cast, and when I walked back up you told me that I didn't have to walk so far out because I was standing exactly where you hooked this stingray! Amazing video Payton! I caught one like that when I was a kid,I was in a Popular Mechanics plywood jon boat that my Dad and Grandfather built for me.I had it on a solid boat rod and I didn't really fight it that much, it just towed me all over the flats, till it was tired and I could reel it in. Nobody believed me except for my dad and Pop, I must have been 11 or 12, this was in Islamorada ,Fla in the early 60s My one and only Nantucket Sleigh ride! (for those of you who care, I cut the line close)
Really nice Catch. Congratulations. How many inches would you say it was from wing tip to wing tip? Very impressive. My Brother and I took on a Beast of a Stingray that took us nearly 3hrs to land on the Beach near Bodega Bay which we measured 6' wing tip to wing tip. Unfortunately the 8MM CAMCORDER he took along with us wasn't able to document what we caught that night but we will never forget that night. GREAT SELF LANDING SKILLS👍

Skate in a crab ring (see rings used to pull fish up a dock, use by westerners to catch Dungeness an Red Rock crabs) and tried eating the wings. I couldn't/didn't get the uriah flavor out of the meat. 😐 It is something I'll pass on again. Thank you .

My daughter caught an enormous salmon in Alaska and she thought she would die, she asked for help and a old man helped her hold the pole because her arm got so tired and she is a strong girl. Our guide said it was the biggest one of the season that had been caught so far. But he said he couldn’t help her. She had to do it herself. He is fighting for his life, you have to respect that. Look at the size of that tail and he is flipping it around. Be careful, the way he is flopping around, wow!
