The world over fisherman spend hours or even days trolling for the perfect catch and over the generations, many amateur fisherman have conflated tales of their one big catch to impress friends and acquaintances. But now adays with the internet and cameras everywhere it is easier and easier to record proof of monster hauls, and today we are looking at 10 of the biggest catches of all time.
10. Largest lobster
Lobster fishing is done by dropping baited traps into the water and then waiting for lobsters to come for it. This system of capture often means that lobster are hard to catch in large numbers, but it is still a wildly profitable industry. Despite the potential for profit, lobster fishing is often seen as one of the most dangerous occupations in the world, fisherman have become entangled in the lines used to haul up traps, this can prove fatal in many cases. Despite the risks, hundreds of people take to the seas every year hoping to make the big catch...and in 1977 a crew off the coast of Nova Scotia, Canada, caught what Guinness called the world's Heaviest Marine Crustacean - a 44 pound 6 ounce North Atlantic lobster.
While it is the largest officially recognized lobster, a massive Maine lobster caught in 1926 was said to weigh a shocking 51.5 pounds, unfortunately, this fish was never officially confirmed before it became dinner.
9. Largest catfish
Catfish are some notoriously large creatures and the aptly named Mekong Giant Catfish is no exception, these giant fish live along the Mekong River between lower Mekong in Vietnam and the Yunnan province in China. Unfortunately they have been severely over-fished and are currently a critically endangered species. On January 18 2019, an unbelievable specimen was caught by local fishermen, the monstrous Mekong was over 9 feet long and weighed an unbelievable 650 pounds, experts who verified the catch have said that it may not only be the largest catfish ever caught, but it may In fact be the largest freshwater fish ever caught.
8. Largest salmon
i1.wp.com/fishwithjd.com/wp-c...
Salmon is a notoriously common fish, and chances are if you've ever eaten at a seafood restaurant then you have seen salmon on the menu. It is a staple of seafood cuisine and can be found on sandwiches, in cans, and as a regular feature with sushi.
In the wild salmon ranges from 3 pounds to over a hundred pounds depending on the species, and without fail the largest variety of salmon is the King Salmon, sometimes called the Chinook Salmon. In 1949 a group of fisherman in Petersburg Alaska sprung a net trap and waited for it to fill with various species of fish, but when they pulled up the net they had caught a little more than they had bargained for, among the fish was a 126 pound King salmon, the fish was varified and tho this day is one of the largest salmon ever caught.
7. Largest Squid
amp.businessinsider.com/image...
It’s no surprise that one of the largest recorded squids was from the species known as the colossal squid. The colossal squid is even larger than the giant squid with members of this species reaching over 30 feet in length and weighing up to 1,500 pounds. In February of 2008 fishermen in New Zealand hauled up a massive net, they expected it to be filled with millions of smaller fish that would be sold commercially. When they got a look at the contents though, they realized that the net contained several fish and one inconceivably massive, 33-foot long colossal squid, they realized that the specimen was truly something special and they turned it over to the Auckland University of Technology, where marine biologist Steve O’Shea confirmed that it was the largest squid on record. - Развлечения

Extra large species are so rare, after taking all those years to grow I'd like to think most modern anglers would want to release it rather than kill it.
Fish usually tastes worse the older and bigger it gets. Or, at least that’s true for the freshwater fish I’ve caught
That’s what I was thinking like let it back in the water so it can mate and continue it’s special genetic line 😭
I would hope they would always catch and release a lot seem to but there are a few “sport” fishers dont they keep it as a trophy
wow
I always release fish if they big
But if its like 6 pounds and they get bigger or that's my first of the species I eat it
If its my first I eat out of respect to the fish

I once saw a lobster that was the size of a small golden retriever, it's antenini(sp) was about 11 foot long. At the time when I saw it I had no idea that could have been a world record as I was scooba diving and was foreign to the area and just figured that must be normal for the area and they must be some inedible species. I followed an adolescent sea turtle under a rock ledge and when I can around the ledge the turtle was frozen still as if it was scared. I looked behind it and maybe 4 feet back there it was, the largest lobster I'd ever seen. When swimming down to the rock I saw it's antenna but I just though it was a snagged and broken off rope. I was wrong and from the turtles reaction he hadn't seen anything quite like that either. This was in Costa Rica in case anyone was curious. It sounds ridiculous but I swear on my children and everything I care about in this life I'm being truthful. Anyway just figured I'd share a fun story, have a good day.

I'm Canadian and I find it just absolutely hilarious how they said "Nova scotia"
When most people call them selfs bass fisherman they are most likely referring to large mouth bass not sea bass.
Its selves Mason, selves!
I fish both, and there is NO comparison in size and power. Lake Bass like small/large mouth bass are fairly big, max of 2 feet and very strong. But a striped bass can be humungous and even pull you in if you're not prepared for it.

not really if you look up the biggest bass/pike caught records in your state they go pretty far back but i havent seen any in the 1700s, idk about the ocean
@@glizzygoblin-nl2uh 300 years ago is still tiny
One of the earliest writings we have describe a king's wealth, it brags about his great harbor filled with ships. So we had as a species invented boats long before writing. That being said, there's as many fisherman on the sea in one day today as there would have been over a hundred year period at that time, mostly because of the refrigeration, the size of boats, and global population. Combine that with the improved fishing/boating technology and it seems unlikely that people far enough in the past for the evidence to have disappeared or gone yet undiscovered holds standing records on catch size.
well no duh, do you know why stuff was so big back then? oxygen, we dont have as much as we did so long ago, stuff isnt the same stuff as it was

I would like to comment on the section of this about sea bass. Most people who go bass fishing and brands named after bass are talking about the fresh water large or small mouth fish. They are professionally fished by many people and is a very well known name of any even amateur fisherman.

Do you have regulations to control over fishing?
It's interesting. Giant squid can max out at maybe 43 for a fully extended female. That "surfing squid" you showed as a 16 ft giant squid dying. The fat purple-red one by the boat was a colossal squid also called a giant antarctic squid and a giant cranch squid. Even if it isn't as long, the 20-40 ft colossus can weight 3x more. It's also a broad squid able to swell up with water and it has a wide spade 'fin'.
Actually scientists believe that there are giant squid that could easily reach 50+ feet...we simply have seen very few specimens to accurately speculate as to size...colossal squid are the more impressive species, due to their bulk, and those razor-sharp suckers, that rotate!...and we have seen very few of these monsters!
