Thanks you brother Jared for a glimpse into the commercial catfish process in your part of the world. And a BIG thank you to Jimmy for the hard work putting wild caught catfish on our tables. Yes here in TN we do consider those big catfish a trophy and most are released. But as Jimmy said I am sure he has no interest in putting himself out of business. I kept thinking how much peanut oil are they going to need! Another fun video keep it up...

Great Video Jared!!! Being one of them guys that chase trophy blues on the Missouri River yes I enjoy releasing the big ones but also enjoy eating fish. After taking a recent fishing trip down your way I was amazed by how much water there actually was in that part of the country that touches all the other parts. So you guys are right, definitely no populations being hurt at all.

  • @bishopcorva

I had to sit here and think about the totes used and how it's needed for ice to keep the fish from turning. It got me thinking about using a sort of floating cage that gets pulled along behind the boat or is built in. That if the traps were more sturdy that they could be lifted clear of the water and dumped directly into the keeper cage.
As it moves around the water is being constantly cycled past the fish for live at unloading kind of fresh. Then comes how to extract, large dipper net or crane the keeper up at four corners, pop a catch and dump all the fish into a sort line.
While that might work, it's also unknown. Probably would be more drag which would take more fuel just normal moving, nevermind if a current catches it. Still though, very neat seeing a seldom talked about thing.

I dislike hoop netter's,and hoop netting, for several reasons,my biggest issue is the selling of any big catfish,to Paylake owners..Only because it dooms the fish to basically a torturous life,in order to feed,it must be caught, they lose massive amounts of weight once in those ponds,it's unsportsmanlike to trap an animal or fish, for the purpose of stocking pay ponds.
Hoop netting also kills massive amounts of bi-catch,turtles, muskrats,beaver,etc...
Just don't think hoop netting should be allowed for anything other than limited catches...It's just wrong in so many ways..
    Just an opinion,that's all...
