    1 Moisturizing Shampoo. This should be used 1-2x/week depending on your schedule. Choose a shampoo that is Sodium/Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate free. These ingredients tend to strip the hair making it feel squeaky clean.
    1 Clarifying Shampoo. A clarifying shampoo should be used 1-2x/month if you are heavy handed with your products/oils etc. By using this shampoo you will remove dirt, build up. It's a great way of starting your hair off fresh for the month. Your hair should feel squeaky clean. Here are some examples:
    1 Moisturizing Conditioner & 1 Protein Conditioner. You should follow up with one of these conditioners after every wash. Use either one depending on what your hair needs at the time. I would recommend deep conditioning the hair for 30-45mins preferably with heat (hooded dryer). Protein conditioners are used for rebuilding the hair and giving it strength. Protein conditioners should be followed by a moisturizing deep conditioner to restore moisture and elasticity to the hair. Here are some examples of moisturizing conditioners:
    1 Leave-in conditioner. This should be used after washes or as a daily moisturizer. Here are some examples:
    Water based moisturizer (1 Moisturizer). Use daily to hydrate the hair. I recommend using your moisturizer 1-2x/day (morning & night). Here are some examples:
    Moisturizing: S-Curl, Hollywood Beauty Olive & Carrot Oil, ORS Olive Oil, ORS Carrot Oil, Wave Nouveau Finishing Lotion Protein: Cantu Shea butter, Elasta QP Mango Butter, Profective Healthy ends
    Natural Oils are used for sealing in water based moisturizers. Add a light coating of oil to the ends of the hair and work your way up. Don't over do it now!!
    The one and only Moroccan Oil (Sallys beauty supply)
    Castor Oil
    Extra Virgin Olive Oil (Walmart)
    Avocado Oil

    Almond Oil

    when people say you can't have healthy hair when it is relaxed, i just look at them questionably because all these women running around with a head full of healthy relaxed hair, and i guess they don't see it...or don't want to see it!

      and whats ironic the tips for natural hair and relaxed are all the same. its about what you prefer to manage curls or straight.

      Jessica Williams relaxed hair can't be healthy 😂 it grows because it's HAiR! It's scientifically proven! And this is coming from a relaxed girl. Face it

  • @Jonesybabie
    @Jonesybabie 10 лет назад +34

    Ok so I have never been "relaxed" and I'm one of those people who are against any chemicals for obvious reasons… but girl your hair is A-MAZING! It appears healthier than many naturals and you are extremely knowledgeable about what you are doing. It's beautiful to see both perspectives, especially from someone who is a great example of what to do IF you are going to get a relaxer. Not everyone wants to deal with flat twists, WnGos, and nightly routines, someone needs to be the voice of that area in OUR community as well. #loveandlight sistar!

  • @_mojojojeaux
    @_mojojojeaux 9 лет назад +59

    You can have healthy, relaxed hair. I hate when people say that. I know people with natural hair and their hair isn't healthy due to heat damage. Sure, relaxers have loads of chemicals in them so I see the point. But using a relaxer shouldn't stunt hair growth either. Proper hair care is the key to achieving growth.

      im a natural right now with hair that fighting me and giving me more pain than pleasure right now. at 5 yrs i cant struggle no more. im going to use the tips that i already knew but didnt do ( its so hard with curls to keep them detangled) with a relaxer it will be so much easier

    • @_mojojojeaux
      @_mojojojeaux 9 лет назад +1

      MsKbradley I wish I could relate but I'm not a natural. Although, it is my understanding that without proper detangling, you can end up with breakage. I wouldn't use a relaxer as a way out though. Try going to a hairstylist first to see. Sometimes it's best for them to assess your hair and recommend products for you to use. I know with my hair, as I get more new growth, I have to switch up which products I use to keep it soft and manageable. My natural hair has a 3C pattern so at about 15-16 weeks post, I've struggling to keep my roots straight. I'd texlax, personally before I fully straighten it. Thats just my opinion.

    • @BimmerBabe
      @BimmerBabe 9 лет назад

      Joneshia Jacobs thanks for the kind words :) but i dont want to really spend anymore time with my hair. there isnt any issue with it other than the fact i wasn't maintaining it how i should. I have a tight 4c coil and work out and sweat daily ( like a pig lol a skinny pig). i find myself wearing wigs , Senegalese twist or spending countless hours detangling , washing and praying for a decent twist out. i dont view a relaxer as a way out . its an option. an option to make my hair manageable for my active life. i hope with a relaxer that i will be able to co wash daily after gym with oils and deep condition and do roller sets. allowing me to take care of my hair and be cute with low heat. i want to swim and not be a little fro and and 4 hrs post pool to get myself together. i also want to get a short cut. i i really just want a style i can wear every day for the next 10 yrs lol and a roller set it is. in case if your wondering why i dont roller set natural . view my point about how i sweat..it would be hell trying to get a decent looking roller set daily after all the shrinkage lol. i dont want to spend my nights going thru that . wish me luck :) eeekk im scurrred and a tad guilty

    • @_mojojojeaux
      @_mojojojeaux 9 лет назад +1

      MsKbradley Haha. I totally understand. Even though my hair is relaxed, I can't get nice results from a twist out, braid out (I can't braid to the scalp). I get nice roller set if I want, but I hardly ever do one unless my hairdresser does it. I think there's a misconception about not having big hair after a swim. I know for me, when I get out of a pool my hair blows up (I'm assuming that I have very porous hair). Because my hair is thicker and denser, it gets a little unruly to detangle after water hits it. You should definitely do what works for you. I couldn't imagine going through that everyday. My hair was relaxed when I turned 8 (personal choice). I miss my natural curl pattern but I've been texlaxing now (so I get a softer wave). I wish you the best of luck. Join Hairlista. It's a hair forum for healthy hair growth. I think you'll love what you'll find on there.

      Joneshia Jacobs its a hair journey . i stopped calling it a natural one a while ago. i realized that now i know both worlds and fully equipped to do better. round 3! ding ding....i too was relaxed young and wore weaves, braids and such for manny years, fried and died my hair so much. (pre YT era. pre- heat protectant era) i knew nothing about hair growth and lived under the guise black hair did not get long. I believe there is a misconception if you go natural you will grow. untrue. if you go healthy you will grow. i have seen many YT vid and other online info and came to the conclusion the tips are all the same relaxed or natural. So i just need to do better and rather do better relaxed. I wanna be carefree and for me natural isnt/ wasnt it.

    Im so glad glad glad you addressed the natural hair vs relaxer mess. Im so tired of people acting like you can't have healthy relaxed hair and its not true. Thank you for this video and your wonderful tips. Oh and I'm so tired of people attacking black women for wearing wigs too. I have head it all and some the same people in the natural hair vs relaxed genre are the ones attacking. I just don't understand people being so concerned about anothers hair.

    I am #teamrelaxer and love it! Great tips! Natural hair is NOT for me! I love to work out, lift weights, am a full time Mommy and I work in a professional environment where I prefer straight hair. To each is own but I am NOT going to compromise my overall look for "the natural hype". The natural look is not part of my personality.....

I've been on my natural hair journey and I've come to the point what I realized that my hair is not in a healthy state although my hair is natural and chemical free my hair is not healthy and definitely not moisturized. I have 4 C type hair and it's very hard to manage I really been thinking long and hard about restarting my relaxer and going on a healthy relaxed hair journey again. Thanks for the wonderful information and tips.

    Although I am only 14, I have gone through A LOT with my hair. When I was 5, my hair was almost wait length, but then got it cut accidentally, not knowing the hairstyle I wanted required short hair. Ever since, I've worked hard to get my hair back to the state it was. I was natural until I was 6. My hair became so thick and long that it was way too much to handle. I then again attempted to go natural 2 years ago, when I was 12. But this last Friday, I gave in. My hair was wayyyy to thick and dense for my mom or my aunt to help me. Lol. I got a relaxer but I take what I've learned when I was natural with me. The deep conditioning, massaging, protective styles, co-washing, protein treatments. Everything. This helps me keep my hair healthy even though what I'm doing is not. I'm happy with it now, I realize that with a relaxer, I straighten my hair less and use less heat. This is because it us straight already, allowing my hair to grow. All I have to do is keep up my regimen up, my hair will continue to grow. I've grown 4 inches in hair growth over the last 4.5 months, this is great. All I must do is keep it up. Please, if you have any tips or motivation for me, please reply becaise I need all the tips and support I can get. My parents give me a lot but I need professional help too with this giant head of hair I have.😂 Thank you. 💘

    What you said about sew ins are VERY TRUE! I had my first sew in & my hair broke off badly chunks of my hair came off in the shower I cried. My hair was a little longer then yours. I do believe the thread & lack of moisture to my hair is what broke my hair. Everyone always told me you have long hair for a "black girl" ... But noo my ass wanted 26 inches. I'll never get a sew in again! I'll stick to using clip ins every now & then.

    I think that you did a great job with the tips but I think that you missed one of the most important tip about maintaining healthy hair and that is making sure that your ends are clipped so that the hair doesn't break off continuously up the hair shaft...keep doing what your doing girl and stay blessed!

      My hair is growing in thick and dark and quite quickly. My hair used to be very slow growing. I definitely going to try out your tips and hope it works for me… My girlfriend suggested me hairrestorationgurus.com/ saying follow their tips but I don’t have any idea that what are they delivering. Have a visit and give your reviews…

    I disagree about the weaves. A lot of people don't know how to take care of their hair underneath the weave I think that is more the problem. Weaves have been the main protective style for me while trying to reach greater lengths and over about 2 years my hair has grown to about apl. People think they can just put a weave in and leave their hair alone and that's the worst thing you can do. I would wash my braids underneath, mositurize it, do leave in conditioner and all that as if it was out. But lord when I tell weave washing day was the most tedious thing ever! But it worked for me.

    I'm glad I looked at your video! Some of the advice you gave, I'm already doing them. I wash my hair once a week with crème of nature sulfate free shampoo (red bottle), I use the motions nourishing leave in conditioner. I have the crème of nature red bottle intensive conditioner treatment and the infusium 23. I use a heat protectant to dry my hair. I just have to get a protein conditioner and a moisturizer. I also have castor oil. I also love to wear wigs. You basically reinforced my regimin. Thanks.
