1 Moisturizing Shampoo. This should be used 1-2x/week depending on your schedule. Choose a shampoo that is Sodium/Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate free. These ingredients tend to strip the hair making it feel squeaky clean.
1 Clarifying Shampoo. A clarifying shampoo should be used 1-2x/month if you are heavy handed with your products/oils etc. By using this shampoo you will remove dirt, build up. It's a great way of starting your hair off fresh for the month. Your hair should feel squeaky clean. Here are some examples:
1 Moisturizing Conditioner & 1 Protein Conditioner. You should follow up with one of these conditioners after every wash. Use either one depending on what your hair needs at the time. I would recommend deep conditioning the hair for 30-45mins preferably with heat (hooded dryer). Protein conditioners are used for rebuilding the hair and giving it strength. Protein conditioners should be followed by a moisturizing deep conditioner to restore moisture and elasticity to the hair. Here are some examples of moisturizing conditioners:
1 Leave-in conditioner. This should be used after washes or as a daily moisturizer. Here are some examples:
Water based moisturizer (1 Moisturizer). Use daily to hydrate the hair. I recommend using your moisturizer 1-2x/day (morning & night). Here are some examples:
Moisturizing: S-Curl, Hollywood Beauty Olive & Carrot Oil, ORS Olive Oil, ORS Carrot Oil, Wave Nouveau Finishing Lotion Protein: Cantu Shea butter, Elasta QP Mango Butter, Profective Healthy ends
Natural Oils are used for sealing in water based moisturizers. Add a light coating of oil to the ends of the hair and work your way up. Don't over do it now!!
The one and only Moroccan Oil
    Jamaican Black Castor Oil
    Extra Virgin Olive Oil
    Avocado Oil
    Coconut Oil
    Grape Seed Oil
    Almond Oil

+Nefer Ra Tabu I have known and seen healthy women with long relaxed hair no known tumors or any other problems. I'm natural but don't feel good bashing anyone for their choice that they make with their hair. It doesn't matter what anyone says people will do what makes them happy and is best or easiest/ most convenient for them. If someone's hair is super thick and they have tons of kids why shouldn't they be able to relax their hair if that makes their morning routine a bit easier. (just a scenerio) we gotta live for ourselves not to make others happy or comfortable and be afraid so they will not come for us on blogs and other social networks. Have a great evening and take care love.

I was with you until you said 1-2 relaxers a year. My hair is 4z and once it starts getting too thick, there is no amount of softening that will prevent my hair from breaking badly. I usually go 10 -12 weeks which is 4x per year to prevent my hair from breaking but still healthy

catmo59 Hi, my hair if a 4C (if that's what you have) and I go every six months for a relaxer as well. I know the struggle once that new growth comes in but honestly, you can "train" your hair to become more manageable to go longer in between relaxers.

    • @IcedLipGloss

I didn't either until I texlaxed my hair after being natural for almost 6 years and was doing research on how to care for it. I definitely feel being natural gave me the foundation for healthy texlaxed hair.

  • @joshie19922
    @joshie19922 9 лет назад +75

great tips! however there are some person where really long stretches causes excessive breakage for them. So i believe if the most you can do is three months that is great, if you can go longer kudos to you but listen to your hair. But please dont relax your hair with less than 8 weeks of growth and also you can coat your previously relaxed hair with an oil to prevent overprocessing.

    • @salliestar92
      @salliestar92 9 лет назад +3

J Charles I totally agree, it all depends on each person and how long their hair can take stretching. I relax my hair every 3-4 months, I have seen nothing but good results. And I like you said coating the previously relaxed ends is soo important.

    • @renadeas7540

Love the advice you provided. Everything you stated can be utilized for either relax or natural hair. I agree with you 100% concerning the 4-6 weeks applying a relaxer. before I went natural I think I stretch my relaxers for a nice moment. But never thought of doing them once or twice a year. Watching your video making me realized more that after 2 yrs I still have not develop a regimen for my hair. Your hair is gorgeous keep up your great care.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!! You so just got a new subscriber, lol.
I accidentally stumbled onto the fewer relaxers and less heat train simply from being dissatisfied every time I got my hair done, which began restoring my length at a pretty amazing rate, but I was really wanting to take my hair care to the next level. I figured moisturizing would have something to do with it, but I wasn't really sure because I'm not exactly a "hair person". I'm honestly the ponytail queen, lol. These steps seem so very doable, though, and don't raise any alarm with my internal instincts so I'm grateful to you and the fact that you aren't sitting on this knowledge.
Anyhow, long rant aside, I look forward to learning from you!
Oh! and your hair looks great :)

I've watched the first video also. Your tips have helped to greatly improve retention of length in my hair. Braiding during the times I wanted to relax helped also. Moisturizing and sealing has become my friend. Thanks.

This is awesome ! I wish I knew then everything I know now about taking care of my hair. I am 1 month natural now after a year of transitioning with braids. I was forced to go natural because my hair broke off so much over the years while it was relaxed. I could not maintain length pass my shoulders. And now that I think about it, it was because of the lack of education. I take better care of my hair now that it is natural, when I should have been doing that when it was relaxed as well and maybe I would not have went natural. I got relaxers every six weeks but the problem was that I used too much heat and that I barely co washed or shampooed bc i didn't want to have to flat iron my puffy hair. I only deep conditioned when I relaxed my hair and washed it maybe once in between relaxers :(. This video just makes me miss my hair relaxed because I know now that I would probably do a better job taking care of it then I did before. But it's okay because I also love my natural hair :)))

I just came across this video. I first must say that you have a beautiful hair. I have been using a relaxer for the past 20 years every 2-3 months ("just for me" only) . My hair has been just like you said THERE! a little below my shoulders for the past 20 years. Now I have changed my routine completely in the last year but I still continued to use relaxer. I am due for one this month but I am gonna take your advice and wait 6 months. I will get back to you on my results! 😊 cheers!

I trim my hair as soon as i see tht it may have a frayed tip... if its frayed at the ends, cut them immediately...

Amen amen. My mom clipped my ends every 4 months as a lil girl. My entire childhood I had people asking me was I wearing a weave. It wasn't until I got grown and stopped trimming my ends regularly that my hair stopped growing the way it used to. Now that I keep my ends trimmed my hair is back to once again growing like the weed.

I am a new subscriber to your channel and I must say that you have changed my outlook on relaxed hair. I have been relaxed for almost 6 years and my hair broke really bad then i cut it and now i am trying to grow it back but i don't know how to take care of my hair properly. I was thinking about going natural because i thought that it would help my hair but you are proof that relaxed or not, hair can still be natural. I am going to try your hair care regimen and i hopefully my hair takes to it.

Great video. I have already gotten myself to two relaxers a year for like 3 years now but I can never find the right shampoos, conditioners, and moisturizers. I'm going to go out and get some new stuff to start in July. Thanks for the tips gorgeous.

@softeshdyamond I personally wanted to say thank u. The information u shared, the research u did & the time u took to do it all for free has been a real blessing to people mature enough to receive it. Also u are an example of what you've taught us.
U do not deserve all the negative comments from immature & rude people. Ur hair is beautiful & ur skin is flawless which would suggest to me u really take care of yourself.
A lot of the things you've mentioned here I learned by trial & error but I was doing some of the out of order so this video has been most helpful to me & thank u again... Oh btw plz don't allow people to discourage u from doing what u luv bcuz the way I see it you've gotta be passionate about it to do all this without pay & lil appreciation.

I'm so hurt and sad, I cut all my hair off listening to people regarding natural hair, I'm 5 months natural and hair is in shock, it refuses to stay moistured. I just need a little help regarding my thinning edges while l aged, i had healthy hair for years with a relaxer i just ran across low iron, stress and not being knowledgeable on hair..I'm balling my eyes out, i should not cut my hair...thank you for video

Natural hair is easy to deal with if you always have it braided or twisted. You can wash and mosturize your hair as you please with out having to detangle EVERY DAY. To much combing causes damage. I barely have my 4C hair in a fro my hair grows faster in braids. Once I take my braids out on to the next protective style..
If u perfer having a fro but can't deal with the tangles it comes with natural hair isn't for you
