  • Exposed! The Truth About The Philippines May Shock You
Many times you hear all about a place or experience form others who experienced it before you. When you finally see it for yourself it may be completely different from what you heard. There are a lot of misconceptions about the Philippines and these are some of the more common ones that I have experienced.

Scott your comments are very accurate. A lot of Vloggers do tend to overstate their observations most likely purposely to get Clicks and drive their payment from RUclips. So anyone looking at a Vloggers Video should take it with a grain of Salt. Listen as you view these Videos for their motivation as opposed to being a really accurate source. As a long time traveller to the Philippines I can attest to your evaluation of life here. One major falsehood is English is spoken by most Filipinos. That is only true when they are exposed to from an early age to Foreigner driven Tourist areas. English is taught in Schools here from an early age, but as in most skills in life if its not actively practiced it becomes lost or at the very least very hard to carry on any level of English conversation.

English is the medium of instruction in PH schools in spite of it being so Filipinos in general are far from being fluent at it English is not the language in Italy but the few Italians that speak English are more fluent at it than most Filipinos

When I’m a passenger on a trike, I’ll see many Filipinos staring at me.
I just smile, wave and 99% of the time they will smile and wave back.
We had an appointment with a young female physician yesterday.
She was smart, attractive and a very good clinician. During our conversation she explained to us
she had her internal medicine residency at Emory University in Atlanta and enjoyed living there, but she returned to the Philippines to help care for Filipinos and preferred living in the Philippines.

Just want to add more about the tech side in the Phil. I used to be an IT in Subic, back then the Phil was 10 yrs behind in technology. I just spent two months there and just came back to US two days ago, yes it was a brutal 12hr trip. Lots more good and bad to say but I just want to say one big thing about techs there. They are really, really very, very good, they can fix anything, they even fix old laptops and old tube TV's to component level. I brought with me my two iphones, one was completely dead and one was not charging at all. When I brought it for Service here, I was advised to just buy new ones. Amazingly, the tech fixed both of them in less than an hour for only $20. The place is Greenhills in Manila. Thanks.

Those misconception about the Filipinos stems from a vlogger out of Dumaguete. He thought Dumaguete is the entire Philippines. He doesn't realized that it's just a small part of the Philippines were cultural differences exist. Every region, Island or province has it's own culture and unique characters. Some of these vloggers from Dumaguete think they're already an expert. If you are an expat looking for a serious relationship the best thing to do is to visit the country and learn about the country and culture so you can personally witness it rather than taking an advice from other. If you can Immerse yourself into the culture so much better because you'll have deeper understanding of the Filipino way of life and relationship will come in naturally.

Philippines needs a culture check ASAP TBH ,the cleanliness and the environment Preservation is not regarded by most majority, info drive and education is much of a importance specifically in the Visayas areas and slums in Manila where they produced and produced more babies without any regards of their wellfare as a result they end up scattering on streets like a stray animals do..sad the government and politicians didn't care for more but to having bulk of the funds from taxpayers straight into their own pockets..its a sad reality😢

I'm not too crazy about the long flight to the Philippines so I have been telling my wife that there are some flights that have several stops without having long layovers. For example United flies from Los Angeles to Honolulu with about a 2 hour and 45 minute layover with a flight time of around 6 hours. Then from Honolulu to Guam with about a 7 1/2 hour flight with an hour layover. Then Guam to Manila with about a 3 1/2 hour flight and that was in December that costs around $1,055 for a round trip. I like it because so many times I have been sitting by the window and it's almost impossible to get up and just stretch my legs and I don't like to disturb people so I'm stuck in my seat for almost 16 hours on a nonstop flight. I can understand people having fear of the water and for that reason they should stay out of the water. I wouldn't call the Philippines a third world country as every country probably has their poor areas. There are many places in the US where things are a mess

Great points raised on this vid :
    1. Most Filipinos leave the country mainly bec of job opportunities, but if they have a choice, they'll rather not leave.
    2. Not all can speak English, but at least can understand the basic words but they will have a hard time speaking it since English is mostly used for business, not on a daily basis.
    3. Women still prefer to marry Filipinos, to be really honest. Cultural compatibility still matters here. A few may prefer foreigners for some 'personal' reasons.
    4. Not all Filipinos are poor. In fact, even the middle income earners here love to travel abroad and its not a big deal.
    5. Foreigners get stared at just bec of curiosity everyone who looks different are interesting. Stares are ususally harmless
    6. Another common misconception : Giggling does not equate to flirting. We love to tease each other and thats about it. Nothing more, nothing less.

Spot on with all topics. I learned Tagalog and come Cebuano for myself and as a sign of respect to the people of the Philippines. I couldn't get over saying in the US that if you live here then you should speak English and then moving there and only speaking my native language. actually, the part about english in the PH...the older generation have missed out on having to have english as part of their curriculum...but as you communicate with students to people in their 20s as high in the 30s, you will meet alot of them that do speak english bcuz they grew up in an education system that teach/teached english...its the older people in their 40s and older are the one that dont speak english, or maybe knows little but feels more comfortable speaking their native language.

I noticed that Filipinos are also afraid of electricity ,and modern electric devices. I'm sure there's not more than 1000 Filipinos who have appliances like a dishwasher, washing/dryi machines, microwaves etc. I see them sweeping the streets using traditional bamboo brooms.
Appliances, and televisions they sell in the Philippines don't meet the same standards than the ones they sell in America, and Europe. In Southeast Asia they get substandard, and defective stuff from factories. Good luck to get your money back after buying a defective product. You better be patient with the manager. He will use every tricks in the book to refuse.

Well said not all girls are interested in a foreign guy in fact most girls with money don't want to date a foreigner,
There will always be exceptions to the rule but as i mentioned girls that are financially secure don't want us,
Another thing is we hear so much about how cheap the Philippines is i personally having been visiting the Philippines for the last 14 years i spend more money living in the country than i do in my own country living a western lifestyle costs more,
I do agree that we can live a lot cheaper in the province having said that you will have to put up with brown outs, water going off, poor Internet,
People can live cheap in almost any country if your prepared to live in run down area's buy the cheapest of foods on the market etc,
Living in main cities where you have everything close by (ie)nice restaurants, shops, hospitals etc costs more in every country,
I bleave we only get what we pay for and i don't find the Philippines to be any different,
    Thanks for sharing 👍

Filipinas who belong to well to do family are generally well educated and are mostly not interested in having relationships or want to marry foreigners especially western men because the don’t need money plus they consider those expats as below their status and just workers in their own countries.

    • @mbd2901
      @mbd2901 4 месяца назад +2

You are right, not all Filipinas are interested in having relationships or marrying expats or western guys. Reasons: Filipinas who are not interested in having relationships or marrying foreigners are generally well to do, highly educated, have their own professions or businesses, generally live in the cities so they don’t need anyone to support them financially unlike majority of those Filipinas on dating sites, from the provinces and poor who are looking for foreigners to support them financially. Another reason why these well educated and well to do Filipinas are not interested in expats is because they consider them just an average workers from their own countries and also look at them as below their status.

I think a lot of Filipinos don't bank their money, they invest it in real estate. Very common for them to be making a couple of mortgage payments a month and not have enough money to make ends meet.
My Filipina wife will often ask which dialect other Filipinos speak while they are in a conversation.
Traffic signals and traffic signs are merely suggestions in the PI.
