I was asked the other day if I was ever going back to the States. I thought about it and I can't see any kind of life I could have. I've been in Davao for almost 2 years and would never give up life here unless I was forced to. My life is good and I'm not going to give up the peace I have here.

The cost of living has increased here in Manila over the past year by at least 20% , but with that said it is still much cheaper, education is much much better for children, and safety is better here also.❤

I think you are absolutely right. Especially the cost of living. In your senior years, money determines your quality of life. 5K per month in the U.S. is like 20K in East Asia.

Kudos on your solid plan for your future in the Philippines. We retired last August
And live in Batangas. We are content here, even with the various challenges we face adapting to a new culture. Young Liam will excel here. There are many fine International schools in the Philippines with credentialed International Baccalaureate diploma programs. He’ll have a plethora of options after high school regarding college in the U.S. or Philippines, ROTC, military service , trade school etc.

Double check those military options for your son after high school. Last time I checked they are no longer allowing direct enlistment for anyone living overseas. He may be required to reside in the US for one year before enlistment.

I agree with everything you were talking about. Here in California I see freedoms being destroyed every day and being replaced with more of the Socialist/Communist ways. Minimum wage was just raised to $20/hr and companies are either leaving, going to close their stores or have closed their stores because of that. People don't seem to understand that this will cause prices of everything else to go up. I have been trying to get my wife to understand that and I want to get out as soon as possible just like so many others have done. At this rate I'll be broke and homeless before I even have the chance to leave for the Philippines.

Scott, It should bother us all when someone who does not have any deep understanding of the US and the culture being critical without have a Educated understanding. It shows that they are not doing what I call "Critical Thinking". We should all try to use a balanced view to arrive our conclusions. Another way I think of it why criticize a Country or a place that afforded you the livelihood, opportunity, and freedom to live your live unhindered by unreasonable demand. Lastly I would add and old saying "Know where your Bread is Buttered" If you have been afforded most of what you need to live a decent life and especially if you receive benefits that could be very difficult to get anywhere else in the World we should have and attitude of humility and gratitude for what we have been blessed to receive.

That was my #1 reason for leaving also, cost of living. I also did not experience the crime like what’s in the big city’s. I lived in a little town just outside Manassas Virginia. I love my country, but the United States is not what it used to be to be for sure and it’s very sad. I will be here in Philippines now in October for 2 years. It’s a lot to get used to to here…. Like waiting!! 😅. But I love it here and I’m sure I will die here. Thanks for the video. You seem like a good down to earth guy! Good luck!

Don’t forget to do an overseas mail in ballot for 2024, to help save the ones struggling in America.
I moved to PH for a couple years, now I’m in Cambodia. Many years of planning and saving since long before Covid. I agree with the crime, cost of living, social decline. Those were all my reasons. Couldn’t be happier. I’ve since Lost weight, depression is gone, started dating again, eating very healthy. My entire day routine is happy. Not perfect but definitely 10x improvement.
The divide in America is intentional. It’s a way to distract us from who the real enemy is.

It will allow you to retire earlier (by years in my case). That is one main reason We sold our home in CA, and moved to The Philippines - You can’t buy time!!
Also, our grandkids go to a large private school with a lot of athletic & event facilities. They all wear uniforms & are getting a good education. There are armed guards As like most major stores or facilities in the Philippines. (we felt VERY safe while having lunch with them in the school cafeteria area).

These are only some of many of the reasons, could go on & on, about the festivals in the Philippines, no bullying in schools & so on, just goes on & on 😅

By the time Liam is of age pretty much everything is going to be digital as most things are automated already with an App for just about everything you can think of transactional wise. With that being said and to that point, it is extremely easy for one to simply sit at home and obtain a major university degree and then enter the work force.
Liam will be just fine. However, hopefully he will take an interest in IT as well as Artificial Intelligence industries and technologies coupled with perhaps something in the medical field. And then there is always the Military particularly the Navy which pays up to a BS degree. Lastly, life is about taking calculated risks in pursuit of gain...so go for it.

I agree 100% especially on cost of living; living in California, if you don’t make 100k to be able to afford an apartment, have a car and other expenses. If you want a house it costs at least cost 4500 monthly mortgage and in order to qualify you have to have 3x that amount monthly. Very reason why so many homeless people and rise in crime. I’m worried for the next generation.

First came to the Philippines in 1989. Went to grad school, got married, bought two big chunks of land. Left 3 years later.
Returned in '15 after 9 years in Canada. Built a biggish house with cash. Retired at 60.
Always knew we'd end up back here. People have no idea how crappy the U.S. really is.
(And if you don't like how things are going now, just wait awhile lol!)
In America I lived in Iowa, Wisconsin, Colorado, New Mexico, California, New Jersey, and Alaska. I liked America alot better back when it was the world leader in something besides % of population incarcerated for crimes, child sex trafficking, porn production and mass murders. Thanks, but no thanks.

When the cost of living can be had up to 70% below the US - "AVERAGE" - it really is a 'no brainer' !!! 🤔 The social moral fabric sucks in the US compared to decades ago. Weather is an issue everywhere - compared to the US - some less than others. (?) - - - The tradeoffs are certainly worth it once you have a steady income stream ! 🤗

    Hello Sir. Nice video.
I live in the Philippines with my filipina wife and her 2 kids. Moved here 2 years ago mainly because like you said, the cost of living in the US was so high that I still could not afford to fully retire at 64 and also because i was tired of being lonely. Now I'm retired and living a comfortable life here with my wonderful wife which I just couldn't do in the US. The only concern I have at the moment is the China threat. Do you have any concerns or worries about the very possible invasion of Taiwan by China? Also, tensions between China and the Philippines has been steadily increasing. Thank you and take care.
