Throwing one into the trash where it gets to the trash compactor makes it literally burst into flames, igniting the trash around it. I had a job at an recycling center where I had to take smart phones and tablets apart, and especially Apple's tablets were a real pain because they use so strong adhesive to glue the battery into the aluminum it's almost impossible to separate them, without bending the battery. All you need is just a noticeable bend, I mean less than 30 degree angle and it'll start to warm really fast and you smell the chemicals. I didn't work there for longer than maybe six months partly because of that.
In the Netherlands packages are not left at the door. If the recipient isnt home, the packages get sent to a nearby pickup location wich is usually a local store. Or a special automated locker that has camera surveilance. You need a QR code sent to you by email to collect it. Or show your ID to the clerk. As a result, porch pirates dont exist here. You can also just choose to have it sent there directly. I usually do this and have my packages sent to a shop I pass on my way home from work. Free of charge and it makes the couriers job easier as they can just drop a truckload of packages off at once.

I'm in US. I have all of my Amazon packages sent to a nearby Amazon locker so they don't sit on my doorstep while I'm away. You can also have FedEx packages redirected to a store like Walgreens. And UPS packages can be redirected to a UPS store.

We used to use these getting pulled behind a boat in the 1990's. They were called Air Chairs. There is a big wing under the water that acts like a fin. But it's genius to design it so a rider can just pump back and forth for the same results!
