The only thing holding me here right now is my dog, he's getting older and I wouldn't want him to have to go through the shock of flying to the PH. I can't leave him until it's his time. If it wasn't for him I'd be on a plane tomorrow. I'm 55 and a disabled vet, I have pretty much been retired since I was 32. I'd rather do some more living in the PH versus just existing here in the States.
We drove our dogs from Arkansas to LA and took a direct flight from there one of the dogs was a standard poodle of 12 years, made it just fine but I was worried
I hear you and am in the same boat. My little buddy is 15 years old and would hate to see him go but at the same time am kinda anxious for him to move on. I'm 58 and would like to experience life in the Philippines before I get too old.
My wife and I have these same conversations. I am turning 50 so in 7 years we better have it figured out.
I had a rental house about 12 years ago and had it for four years. It really only paid me an additional $200 a month after the mortgage, property management, and paying for the random repairs that occurred. I sold it in 2016, and although I missed the $200, I did not miss the stress.
I agree with selling the house. We’re in Ohio and houses need maintenance here. There’s not a huge margin that makes it worth keeping it and keeping it up. If we need to come back, it’s just cheaper to rent

I'm right there with you brother. I'm 52 and still turning wrenches, and I don't want to be doing this into my 60s/70s. Wife and I are planning for retirement in 2-3 yrs when she's 59.5. Our house if fully paid (Inherited from my grandparents) and I'll be selling it to live and enjoy our retirement in the Philippines. That doesn't include our 401Ks, SS, pension, etc. And those will slowly come into play as we age.

Way better to retire in Philippines but you have to consider our way of life such as pollution, traffic and dis organize rules and policies, some people love to retire but they are afraid of hospital bills,but there's good things about our culture is hospitality, respect and friendly people....
Planning is the first step in the right direction. We have had all of the conversations that the two of you have had. We are going to sell because of the same reason as you. Not renting or using a management company. Too many issues when we are living across the pond. We are waiting on my wife's son to come to the US/ Michigan, and I will give him my 2018 Nissan SUV that way he will have one less bill to deal with when he is getting settled in. It has very low mileage on it less than 10,000 miles. Yes, I'm gone a lot. Lol!! We are looking for our retirement day to come. Fingers crossed July 2026. Great insights and you guys are planning correctly.
Dealing with many expats. Our experience is If you have a lot of equity you should sell. Because, currently low stock in single family homes in the states currently.
You can refi or HELOC to limit your capital gains before selling it.
Also, don't forget as a American's you can own Foreign Properties and write it off. Only the building not the land. Just talk with your accountant.

There are new developments in the Clark area already for healthcare. Very modern part of the Philippines.
Biggest issue is will you be happy retired at 55? What are the career -educational opportunities for your son in the 🇺🇸 versus 🇵🇭 ?
That was one of the main reasons we made sure to get their US citizenships. Keeps doors open for Liam to live and work in the US in his future years.
Retirement is not an age, it's a number. Figure out your FIRE number and go from there.
It's a difficult thing to figure out. My wife doesn't want to live there permanently so we will be snow birds for 6 or 7 months a year. Our home here will sit vacant while we are gone.

I think that selling your home in the US would be your best bet because if your renting out your house or just having people taking care of it who knows if you might have problems that require you to fly back to the States. To me it would be just one less thing to worry about so that you can enjoy life in the Philippines. Maybe I will make the move to the Philippines in about 5 years or so depending on how long my parents will be around. Plus my wife is still here and I want to work while she's working just to have more money. I'm also wanting to save money for solar panels to help save on electric bills down the road when I'm there living permanently. Maybe sometime after getting the solar panels I might get an aircon to cool the first floor when I'm inside but time will tell if I get one or not. There's always other things that would be nice to have as well.
Good morning Sir, for me start a little business here in the Philippines if it will be making income at least to support your monthly bills like electricity water and monthly groceries then I can say it's time to retire and live stressless and happy while your still young so that you can travel and be with your love ones.

have you considered selling your house in the US keeping some of the money for retirement and investing some in a smaller, cheaper, low maintenance townhouse or condo to rent out there, so that you still have an investment property in the US that you can go back to if you ever need to return home?
Yes we have considered that possibility. In the end we decided to sell.
Were planning to sell our house next year snd move to the Philippines,now that we're both retired.

I going to keep house in kc for know no mortage my daughter will live in it she will pay tax insurance on it a budget for matience but i dont want it to be rental income it will not be on my taxs that the plan i hope.i will sale a rental house i have enough to build or buy in philippines
We sold ours the stress and worry is too great at the end .. but we own a good home here in Philippines.. we never regret it ❤❤❤

Hi Scott. I think you and I are on the same glide path. I am looking at about 3 1/2 years to file for social security. I've thought a lot about it too. I'm a disabled veteran currently working, but increasingly difficult to work. 62, if not sooner is my target. My asawa and I have several properties in the Philippines and a smaller home. We plan to build a home at some point when we are there. We have two children. My son, Nathan is 6 and my daughter, Isabella is 2. We were in the Philippines last June for about 5 weeks looking at private schools for the kids, still working on titles for the land, etc. As far as keeping our house here, it's not really practical. I still have a mortgage that would eat up a large chunk of our budget, along with all the associated home ownership costs - homeowners insurance, property taxes, etc.... We plan to sell our house. Having your house paid off (soon) in the Philippines is a big savings to the household budget. Good for you! That's great! As far as health care, it's a concern for me. I am a 90% service-connected vet (I'll be 58 this June), so if we live in Luzon, I have access to healthcare through the Veterans Administration. I am evaluating some health plan options for my family. We want to be positioned to use private healthcare in the Philippines when needed. I like the idea of an HSA. There is an American who lives in the Philippines that I have seen on some other channels that I watched. He was an insurance professional for many years in the US and he still actively works in the Philippines now to help expats with health insurance needs. Congratulations on realizing it's time to retire. I did everything you are about to do starting two years ago and finally moved to Balanga City in June 2023. The one thing I didn't hear you mention were your kids. My step-son was 6 when I got here. He was brought up speaking English by his Momma and me. He was also a Covid baby so he missed about two years going out and playing with friends. We enrolled him in the Monastery School over by Vista Mall- about 3000 peso/month. I bring this up because they primarily speak English but they also have a Tagalog learning section. It has been very helpful for our son, especially now that we live in Bagac, a lot of the kids only speak Tagalog here. Feel free to contact me. I have no relationship to the school. Good Luck.

Hello I watched one of you videos and you had mentioned small electric appliances from the US and taking them to the Philippines. What brand of electrical plug adapter do you use. I send over a kitchen aid mix over, we bought an adapter at the ace hardware in the Philippines and the second time it was used the mixer shorted out. You did mention things with motors wired for 110 does not seems to last over there. An6 input would be great.

Simply using a plug adapter will not change the voltage coming out of the wall outlet. You will need to shop for a voltage converter to plug in your US appliances. The voltage needs to be stepped down to 110V before using. Theyre pretty easy to find in the Philippines.

Also what is required for your wife's requirements to be eligible to collect social security and be able to collect for survival benefits? How many years does someone have to work to be able to collect?
Cecile and Liam are both US citizens so she should have no problems collecting my social security. If someone was to work in the US and be eligible for their own SS benefits they would have to earn a certain amount of money for at least 10 years.
The good time to retire in ph is when you hit 85-90 years old.
Thats the perfect time.

We plan to send Liam to a private school in the Philippines. I feel that he will receive a better education than in our public school system here in Oklahoma City.

You are better off opening a savings account at your bank and putting money on it for your health care needs ,,, manage it yourself ,,,
Most all health care savings plans , you have to us the money within a certain time period or you lose what’s left not used up ,,,
Your better off opening your own private savings account at your local bank and managing your own money for health care …. That’s what I am going to do ,,,

I already made the decision to sell my house here … my girlfriend suggested I keep it ,, but like I told here , 8600 + miles away from it and not able to manage it ,, not productive at all ., not to mention I have a lot of equity in it and with good prices right now it only makes sense .., close one chapter in life and start a new one … I have been watching your channel for a while ,, and like you ,, I will be looking to invest over in the Philippines 🇵🇭 where I will be close to investments…
