We've got another load of balikbayan boxes ready to drop off. We took a trip to Lowe's to check out some light fixtures to send for our next bathroom projects in the Philippines. Yes, you can use light fixtures from the US in the Philippines....

You can ship your household item by shipping container. It cost me $6K on a 20-ft x 8-ft, and it takes a couple of months to get there. I think it was worth it, refrigerator, washing machine and dryer 4 bedroom house funitures. I like the quality of the appliances here in the USA. You just need a converter.

A large LBC box down in Houston to PH is $80.00 with no weight constraints. "If it fits, it ships". We've always taken advantage of the extra luggage allowance we have for being premium members of United (3 checked bags each. 75lb. limit each bag)
S&R has a lot of imported stuff too but it is really expensive. So, bring it with you.

Balikbayan is the best! But Amazon may be my new provider of choice here in the Visayas. They currently have a promo, where many items are shipped to the Philippines at no cost. (Plug in your Philippines address, and the items you shop for will show whether or not they ship to the PI, and whether or not it qualifies for free shipping.) I ordered a Columbia rain jacket, 5 lb bucket of power pro wood screws, and 1 lb of power pro lag screws...$125 of items, total cost, including shipping is $132. ( One of the items did not qualify for free shipping). NO taxes. No customs fees. Ordered on Feb 1st, Amazon says it will arrive here in Roxas City on the 17th. Almost too good to be true. I'm expecting something to go wrong.... I'll update you all, if i can remember.

This is a follow up to my Amazon order. The only surprise was the item arrived 4 days earlier than expected. No taxes and no customs duties. $7 for shipping.

My wife uses LBC to send things to the Philippine. Most of the time when an item has an expiration date it's still good beyond that date. I have had medicine that's at least a year past the expiration date and it's still just as good as it would be when I got it. It's not like the item is still good up to the date of expiration and when the clock hits midnight to start the next day it's no good. Some things expire quicker than other things. That's why I don't just throw things out when it's beyond it's expiration date but that's just me and everyone is free to do whatever they want to do. The only thing that I have brought from the US and plugged it in without a converter is my cellphone charger and nothing has happened. I'm not going to try to see what happens of plugging my laptop in to the outlets in the Philippines because I'm not going to take the chance and a converter isn't that expensive.

Ive plugged in laptops, cellphones, and video game consoles. All are rated 120/220v. Just check the voltage rating before plugging anything in. Good points about expiration dates.

We have used Forex (in Houston area) to ship boxes of gifts for many years to my wife's relatives, etc. There are several other shippers in the Houston area. We stopped sending gifts, etc as my wife will just send them money instead. We have a running joke, as we know some people will send their junk household items to their relatives, some will even send thre old winter coats to their relatives in the Philippines. She says it is just better to send them money instead.

You can get American coffee. Even Kirkland is in many places. The best by far is the local coffee at the market. The flavor is much better than the American brands.
Shasta is readily available in Idaho as well.

I had actually googled to see how much a Weber Kettle charcoal grill there costs and I was amazed at the price!! I have a Weber Natural Gas Grill (which has a connector to the house natural gas) and the Weber Kettle basic grill. I love how the food comes off the tiny kettle and I have the vortex and split charcoal baskets to do indirect cooking. I have also used the kettle for slow smoking utilizing the charcoal snake which is just briquets lined 3/4 of the way on the wall of the grill, two rows wide, and a final row over the two. Also add some apple or hickory wood after 6-8 inches around the snake, You light one end, and it will cook for 3-4 hours or more depending on the venting you do as it moves across the rows of charcoal. Temps maintain pretty well at 250 degrees f. Great for smoking brisket or chuck roast.

Man I am right there with you on the Dr Pepper. I always said I wouldn’t buy generic, until the prices went outrageous lately. Now I will crack open a Dr. Thunder sometimes.
My fiancé in Bagac has found Dr Pepper in S&R in Pampanga. She also said that her grocery store in Balanga has it every once in a while.

I was thinking S&R probably has it. Royal Duty Free in Subic has had it before. We've found some good things in the Balanga grocery stores also!

I always wondered how much it would cost to fly balikbayan boxes when you fly the same day? When I'm standing in line for check in with PAL when going to the Philippines, I see countless number of Filipinos with balikbayan boxes on carts checking them in the same day they fly out. It would be nice to get your boxes same day if it cost the same when you arrive in the Philippines.

Im curious about the cost also. The only problem for me may be the weight limit. I would be interested to know more.
