Good afternoon mike just following up with my health and stuff in 2 years here at 67 years old. At home I had high blood pressure 3 medications with insulin. Neuralathy. Degenerative disk. Chronic pIn. After 2 years. I've lost 40 lbs. No more blood pressure meds.Diabetes medication cut in half. No cholesterol problems. Great blood tests. I credit this to Philippines diet. Fresh fruit and veggies every day. No soda. Very little drinking. Great video Mike! Always enjoyable. BTW. I heard the other day you had another Charles out here. I'm CharlesF from San Carlos Negros Occidental. God Bless you 3!

Just don't eat at Jolibee 😂. In all seriousness though many people throw shade at the Filipino food here. Truth is much of it is junk and awful for your health. Like anywhere in world if you stick to low sugar and healthy organic foods you will get better outcomes. If you're an old guy here be sure to keep health checks always

Only been here for 2 months in Bohol, loving the place and people. Met a wonderful women in church.Very shy, we talk on Facebook messenger every night for hours, even though I can walk to her house in 2. minutes. That has made her a lot less shy speaking English in front of me when we do meet everyday. She asked me if I would have a courtship with her in front of her family. When I do I earn her respect and the love of her family. Highly recommend doing that and meeting someone in church.

Your story matches my story in many ways. However, I haven't found a "Janet" yet. Very beautiful, touching story.
I experienced a lot of bad things in Afghanistan, among other places. Here I have the opportunity to find myself and every minute here is valuable. In contrast to your story, I initially sought solitude in nature. I crossed the entire island of Mindoro mostly on foot. Now in Davao I am around people a lot again and can enjoy it. Everyone should find their own way. George

Greetings from Panama. I am now close to 5 years in Panama, what should be normally a 5 month vacation. Right. Came to Panama after I was invited by friends. November 2019 flight Edmonton Alberta to Panama City. Pandemic started and I was stranded for 2 years in Panama. Wasn’t allowed to fly back home. Anyway. Like you said. Try out nice and warm countries for the retirement living. After my last online request for my return flight was again denied, I just had enough from Canada. Sold everything and just enjoyed Panama. Originally from Germany, I would have never dreamed of sitting every day under Palm trees and enjoying a cold beer. Even started last year in June to build my own house here. There is no hurry in finishing it. I just enjoy doing it. Coming home before it gets too hot outside and enjoying dinner with my girlfriend. Difference how you met your Janet, I did find my lady on the street. Old style. Enjoy your life!

I’m very happy for you Mike. It’s great to know there are these options internationally, which you’ve transitioned to well. You described so accurately the stresses of living in the US, it’s especially difficult now with the divisive political situation as appalling as it is. I’ve traveled to 53 countries and I do like the Philippines. I think Filipino people are some of the happiest, friendliest, and most unselfish, attractive and loving people I’ve met. Best to you and Janet!

Slow pace in Dumaguete. You must be kidding. That place is a cesspool. 134,000 people. Who knows how many motorcycles and not one traffic light in the entire city. Garbage on the streets. I just got back from 3 weeks there. I didn’t see one city worker doing anything in Dumaguete. If there are building codes they are certainly not enforced. Shoddy looking condos and other buildings going up just anywhere there is space to put them. I married a Filipina there in 1987. We have lived in the United States since then and we will continue to live here. Dumaguete is not fit for a human being to live in. The pollution from all of those vehicles is horrible. My last trip going there.

Great video. Mike, I am so grateful for your opinions and openness about you life in the Philippines. No BS, no exaggeration, very transparent.. Between you Vlogs and Paul's, the Old Dog, your information has very much inspired me to consider, and eventually decide that this is where I needed to be. Long story short, I have met and married a Filipina. Later this year, we will settle in her home town outside of Daet in Bicol. Her town is a charming, quiet, beautiful, and well equipped to handle the rain drainage. I am so blessed in that her family is awesome. Her son is well mannered and quite positive in his life outlook. In June, we will travel back for her son's high school graduation. We have much to do, but a gig part of this travel is to get my wife's name change completed. As you are now well aware, the red tape and always changing requirements, can be very daunting. But we will get it handled, one bite at a time. (like eating an elephant). All this to say, I hope that we can take a side trip to Dumaguete and sit down with at least you and Janet, because of your inspiration for me. Buy you a meal, and maybe even get Paul and Mae to come along. Again, I appreciate all your "real" advise. Honest, no hyperbole. Much thanks.

Your vlogs made it practical for me to do a couple recon visits and stay at your recommended Sierra Resort which turned out a great value and location. And you were kind enough to meet me in person. So far your videos, presentations and looks have improved so much in the last year and a half. Your better health and happiness shows each time. Solid balanced serious info w a smile and in a down to earth way we understand and relate to. paced and organized for those of us older guys to get an accurate picture of life there. Visiting proved to verify what you are talking about, pros and cons. Gio is good, old dog entertaining, but you ad a real life practical example of how good life can be there if it fits your aspirations. Hi Mike enjoyed your video and so good to see you fulfilled with your life there. My plan was to retire in the Philippines but after 5 years together with Lynn from Ormoc, we now live in Australia for the last year. It's not the location but the caring and loving nature of Filipinos that makes the difference. Couldn't be happier. Never felt so loved!

Good job Mike. I worked with the Philippinos for a very long time, they are hard workers and good caring people. I am ready to come and stay in Dumaguete City. I am looking forward for this trip.

@@mikesphilippineretirement I just did and commented on it. As you may or may not remember, I'm not in a position to leave Belgium at the moment because of the care for my mother. If I ever do get the chance to move to the Philippines, I will be going to Ormoc, because that's where all my friends are. Still, I always watch your rental videos, just to keep up to date on the rental market, which is only just a little bit more expensive in Dumaguete than in Ormoc.

My fiancée lives close to Rosario, La Union on Luzon. I just got back from a 1 month visit with her ( I asked her to marry me this year) and I have to say that it was so refreshing to be with a woman that actually cares about me. This time I spent was the best 4 weeks of my life in the last 25 years. I will be moving to the Philippines soon after I sell all my personal possessions back in the US.

Great video mike. I have the same plan as you. I’m retired navy and will retire from the government in 7 years( long ways away), but I’m so tired of the stress in California living and the people/crime that’s here. Use the Philippines as a hub for traveling with my Filipina GF. Can’t wait!

Hi Mike. I've been watching your videos for the past several months, and you do strike me as relaxed and happy. I'm planning to make my own boot-on-the-ground exploration of the Phils sometime soon. When I do, when I get down to Negros, I'll reach out again and perhaps we can meet up for a coffee and chill. Keep up the good work!

Hello Mike, good video. It was right on. The only difference between your moving to the Philippines & my move was I moved here in July 6th of 2019. So I ran into major problems due to Covid-19. Because of the pandemic I was financially stressed. I can say now everything is exactly how you described it financially, stress wise, health wise, mental wise.

Keep it real. When I was in the Navy all of us knew the attraction was ‘PESOnality’ and the desire to leave extreme poverty. That doesn’t detract from marriage, it’s human nature the world over. Have fun and enjoy one another. Life is too short as it is.

Most Filipinos/Filipinas are like that - warm and caring. I believe it is because we see it in our parents: how they take care of each other, take care of the children and it becomes a pleasant cycle. When the children become adults, they take care good care of their parents as well.

Mike, this is a great video. My plans are exactly 2 years. We arrive on November 5, in Guimaras, and then I turn 63 later in the month. I get to celebrate it with my Birthday Bro and Sis (my wife's brother and sister) and Christmas for the second time. Then, in two years, we go home, decide if we are going to be a back and forth couple (because we have 2 kids still close by, watching our two houses) and we have 12 grand children, 2 great grand children. So, going home annually if we can afford, but I told Gina, I want a firm, 2 years before we go back to the states. I turn 65 and I have to take care of Medicare. The following year, she turns 65 and we can return again for her Medicare.
I have been with my wife for 31 years, and this has been a dream of mine since she first brought me to Guimaras to meet her family. I am as happy today as I was then, plus I have all the memories to look back on, with her.
I have made a RUclips Channel too, to keep in touch with all my American friends and family. I only have a handful of videos and I see you've been doing this for only about a year? My goal wasn't to make money off of RUclips, but It sure feels good when I get a subscribe and a like. I hope my channel could be a fraction as successful as yours. But, it's your personality ... you are just a nice, honest guy and that resonates with me.
    Salamat!

Just spent 41 days in the Phils. Flew in to Cebu. Im 65. Spent a few days there and then flew to Siargao and took surfing lessons for 3 weeks. I spent a few days in Bohol. I did island tour, whale shark swimming and snorkeling tour. Wouldn't want to live there. I was going to go to Moboal but got tired of moving around so i spent my last week in Cebu city. I like Cebu City as a jumping off point. Im sad to be back home in the states but i have a lot of friends and activities i do in the warmer weather. Next year i will spend 90 days in the Philippines.

I completely agree with you and I'm waiting on a couple more years before I can retire so I can do the same and retire in the Philippines.
I will definitely visit the Philippines sometime within a year and would like to "meet up" with you and Janet.
Take care Mike and keep up the great work.
