I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for.
I feel your pain mate, as a fellow retiree, I’d suggest you look into passive index fund investing and learn some more. For me, I had my share of ups and downs when I first started looking for a consistent passive income so I hired an expert advisor for aid, and following her advice, I poured $30k in value stocks and digital assets, Up to 200k so far and pretty sure I'm ready for whatever comes.
Very inspirational stories I’ve been living and working here in California for 36 years now and I too have a plan to retire early at my 60’s, All my children are currently in college and almost done, I have been contributing on my 401k for nearly 30 years now and that will be my money I could use and my pension to enjoy my retirement I plan to travel all over the Philippines and see all the wonderful places.
Retirement is something I'm nervous about. Retirement in the Philippines, even more so. But I gotta do what I gotta do. I wish to go back someday. Right now, I'm saving up and hope that I'll be somewhat ready when retirement time comes. This video give me hope. Thank you.
I enjoy watching your videos/ story telling. I’m also into my six month of being retired early, at 51. Self insured, enjoying passive income while continue to invest in property building with the husband
Salamat Ate for such eye opening shared life experience. It really makes me think twice about retiring early instead of slaving ourselves here in the states. The lifestyle is the biggest factor to be able to retire early, happy and healthy. Just like your Ninong and Ninang. Future Centenarians! May God bless you and your family! 🙏
I’m blessed, I can I work in the Philippines anytime. Every year I go to the Philippines and work there for 2 to 4 months. Nakababakasyon na ako sa Philippinas, naalagaan ko pa Nanay ko, tuloy tuloy ang sweldo at health benefits.
As for someone who just recently moved to the US for work, your videos make me miss the Ph even more... But, they also motivate me to work even harder so that someday, I, too, can come back home. 🇵🇭 Keep the videos coming! God bless you and your family!🙏🏻
i like this docu. i too retired at 49. i was a healthcare worker & before that, student & military. i'm a dual & i now live in the philippines. i've been here almost 2 years. in early 2025, i'm moving to boracay, my fav island.
Agree. To visit is ok but to live especially if your children are all here, they still need you to be around. We live in the Bay Area in California, the Pilipino and other Asian cultures here are strong.
I live in Canada and I won’t go back either. I want to live like a normal joe here and not some “high end” balik bayan in PI. I also like the lifestyle here without being pretentious but I’m very introverted and didn’t want attention to myself that’s why retiring there is not really my thing. It’s really nice to visit though and I miss the food and all kinds of fruits.
@@SamJone2024 And also if you have children here starting their own life, the more they need your presence. Our mindset is guiding them advice to how to start their own family in which is harder than babysitting toddlers. My daughters always ask their mother and myself how did we stayed married for so long, a very loaded question. Visiting Philippines is ok but not living there. God bless.
@@SamJone2024The ‘highend balikbayan’thing caught my attention. You know that only depends on how you project your self to the people around you, and how you respond to that (highend) if they got that notion. If you want to be everyone’s rich generous ninong/ninang then you are that to them…and as a result you feel the pressure. But if you just live according to your means without aiming to keep the appearances up, then you will have no problem.

I love your content! I'm turning 29 this December, and I’ve been giving a lot of thought to my future. I've decided that 21 years from now, I want to retire and start enjoying life in a new way, especially considering that I don’t plan to marry or have kids. Thank you for sharing your story particularly your plans to retire in the Philippines. We're in Canada for more than 20 years, we're also planning to retire early. We can relate to your stories because we too are planning to stay in the Philippines, at least stay on a regular basis and the back to Canada. Please continue to share and wishing you well on your journey to retirement.
Im in my retirement age and much as I want to retire in the phils, I cant bear to leave my only daughter here. My priority is not my enjoyment but to see to it that when she needs a mother I am there for her. When Christmas comes, she has a home to go to. When she needs a parent, I am just close by.
Exactly, why I can't retire in the Philippines! I have only one child, I will not survive if I'm that far from him. What if he gets sick and he's not married yet? Besides, I don't want to go backwards since I'm used to the life here in the USA. I don't like their healthcare, inconveniences and the hot weather even we have considerable big house we built in the Phils. I'm just happy to go on vacation back home but after 3 weeks there, I'm bored and want to fly back lol..
Yup. Feel the same way. Am 45 y/o but the thought of leaving my 2 children here in US on their own when the time comes, without parents to turn to if they need us is unbearable. Wala naman kaming kamag-anak d2 sa US kundi kami lang. Actually i have one but she's far from us. So i can't as much as I want to eventually.

Your input regarding retirement is very informative … we are planning to retire this year at 59 and 57 , but since we can’t draw from social security until at least 63 , mag business muna kame doon para may monthly income na papasok aside from drawing from our 401K at 59.5 y/o without penalty dahil mahal ang healthcare cost kaya kailangan mapaikot ang savings through a business muna para may continuation ng monthly income. Kailangan pag handaan ang expensive na healthcare cost ng Pinas ..
Thank you for sharing your retirement experiences and of others, Tita Gigi. As a 32 y old Pinoy, locally employed, I always wonder what would my family’s life be if I migrated to other countries and raise my daughter. I have $$ here in the US and 3 lifetime medical insurances but decided to stay in the US the rest of my life. I had traveled to the Philippines and the rest of asian countries to play golf. I love my country Philippines but have no plan of retiring there.

Retired sa Pinas dyos ko po , bawal magka-sakit dyan, inuwi ko Nanay ko dyan kasi gusto nya daw, ng magka sakit napapabalik sa Amerika eh hindi na pwede magbyahe may sakit na eh, kada galaw mo sa hospital ikaw lahat ng bibili ng kailangan sa operasyon pati anesthesia sayo pinabibili , sinakay sya sa ambulance wala gamit loob kundi papag 😂😂 kaya kahit na marami ka pera ubos, nakita nyo si Kris Aquino ang yaman na dito pa nagpunta sa America para magpagamot, masarap lang sa Pinas magbakasyon pero ang mag retired never baka yung 20 years mo maging 10 years na lang dyan , yung iba kasi kaya gusto dyan kasi ang pera nila doble di katulong, pero hindi nila iniisip ang health nila, hirap ng buhay dyan maya maya may kakatok sayo, nag retired ang bayaw ko dyan nagpagawa ng malaking bahay for good sila , after 2 years bumalik ulit dito hayun binenta bahay nGayon nasa North Carolina, halos lahat ng kilala ko nagsiuwi dyan, at nag retired pero nag sibalik rin sa America. that’s the reality i will only go home for vacation kapit may bahay ako sa philippines habang kaya bumiyahe to go home i go home pero pag as in hindi na kaya dito na ako Sa France kase health care is important libre lahat dito
I heard this concern from other retirees as well pero bakit may mga expats na matantada na din and yet they choose to retire in Phils kahit my health issue. Siguro gusto nilang maranasan ang sarap kahit sandali lang ang lifespan sa Phils. Kailangan siguro may tamang ipon and healthy living para mahaba ang buhay to enjoy life in Phils.
I strongly agree --- Lahat ng Barangay dito may ambulance - L300 Van pero wala namang equipment at trained na staff/EMS. Moreover wala pang advance na medical/ diagnostics equipments dito.

Really enjoyed your video. It’s well documented, informative and interesting. I recently retired at 62 and would like to visit the Philippines in possibly 3-4 months intervals so the health care info you provided was helpful. Thanks for posting.
Nice content for a good discussion. Galing lng kmi sa Philippines this January with my wife and 3 kids for a month and we all enjoyed it. Pero that is vacation mode. There are lots of things to consider. We live here in the Bay Area (Fremont) for 30 years and our mortgage is done, so retirement planning is our main agenda . Our children have finish their college education with one of them just passed her California Bar exam. Our main concern is that none of our children wants to live in the Philippines. One is married and just starting her family. I know they are independent na (she just purchased a house in Dublin, CA) pero as a Pilipino culture its still our obligation to guide them building their own family. We raised them in this country so we cannot abandon them for our convenience. Most Sunday we have breakfast together with their partners and what more if they start to have children. My wife ( who is also an RN) is very close to our kids and she can't imagine being away from them, since we all live in the Bay Area also . Anyway this are just our opinion . God bless.

Hello Ate, We just returned from our 3 wks vacay the Philippine, Wife and I reconsidered not to retire in the PI. The infrastructure and social economic conditions were either extremely poor or very wealthy. The wife’s family and friends were either into politics or somehow involved in politics were overly pretentious and toxic, crab mentality and outdo the Joneses. Once my daughter finishes her studies in SoCal we can relocate back to Nevada or Arizona or once PI literally cleans up their act. Ps. Turnoffs were the garbage/ trash, especially in the water in the docks and waterways to Coron island.
I'm sorry to hear about your experience with the family. Retiring in the Philippines is not for everyone. You should be where you'll feel content and happy. Thanks for sharing.
I'm very stress here in US and sometimes I get depressed. We went to philippines last month for vacation and ai don't really want to end and come back here in US. I was very happy when I was in PI and more relax. For me po ang pagreretired sa pinas depende naman po kasi yan kung anong klaseng buhay ang gusto mo. Dito rin naman sa US mga tao very political not just in PH. Masarap pa rin sa atin lalo na always fresh ang mga pagkain lalo na mga isda at gulay.

Hi Ate Gi! My husband and I have been watching your videos. It's so good to hear from someone who's wanting to live in the Philippines during retirement. We're in our early 50s but so looking forward to retiring to the Philippines. Our idea of retirement (from 8-5 job) is to maintain a small flowering and vegetable garden, live in a small but comfortable home, and get involve in the community by doing volunteer work. God willing, we'll use our time to give back! Good luck to you and please keep on creating and posting videos. Thanks!
Ate Gi, I love your vlogs! You’re a good writer, narrator, story teller, etc. This is a valuable information for us middle aged people in preparing for future retirement. It is scary just thinking about retirement since you will be on a steady income, relying on SS benefits and 401 K. But, we have to think about it so we won’t get surprised when that time comes for us to retire. Thank you so much!

Cost of healthcare is the biggest constraint that made me reconsider in retiring for good in the Phil. Aside from the fact that my wife is so attached with our kids & the future apo's. Health insurance is costly & have limits & if one would want good health facilities then one should live in the heart of urban jungle, otherwise, settle for mediocre health service in rural areas. Still prefer to just regularly visit the country.
Me too, I will not miss the chance of enjoying the blessing of having grandkids near me. You have not really discuss the ill effects of the availability and accessibility of healthcare in the rural areas. You should have discuss how transportation to the nearest tertiary hospital is impossible ASAP unlike here in America, what will you do when you are having sudden cardiac problems and you live in the rural areas?
Just because our children here have finish their college schooling , they still need our guide for emotional and family support. If its just me and my wife retires sa Philippines, then we practically abandon them here sa US. Its not their fault to be born here, so they still need us here when they start their own family, that is our Pilipino culture. God bless.

Ganda ng kwento te Gi.. Been researching about retiring early about couple of years now. But tulad nung isang example mo, I love my work and realized that the most I can do probly is work part time 2x/week. (As if naman kakayanin ng savings ang full retirement 😂). It’s always a question din yung magkano ba ang kailanganin to retire or work part time comfortably. Baka naman meron ka ganun vlog in the future hehe.. Salamat sa pag share. 🤗

@@official_ate_gi_channel Saka working part time works perfectly dahil sa trabaho ko benefited p din pag part time, work 2x/week, 5 days off. May med, vision, dental and pto benefits. Malaki bagay ung medical lalo na sa mga bata pede ko sila covered til 26yrs old (i think) as long as dependent ko sila. Unlike full retire, wla na income na papsok (besides sa investment income) tapos right off the bat at least $2K + na agad sa monthly medical expenses.. It just make sense in my opinion work part time if I want to slow down na, hopefully in 5 years siguro pede na 🤞🤞Sana 😂. Depends on your next video, will look at the numbers 😂.
I feel so fortunate that by a twist of fate I had the opportunity to be an immediate American citizen from my father's service in the USNavy inspite of being born in the Philippines. Hello Ate Gi! I am also a RN here in USA- im at young age, pero iniisip ko na ung retirement ko haha. Thank you for the tips para sa retirement plans in the future!
Spot on. Most of my aunts were teachers and retired as principals. They all took a lump sum worth millions. But in the end, their hard work took a toll on their health. My father was the eldest of 12. He made sure his siblings and his 6 children got an education and have degrees. Retired with 0 bank account and no properties. Because of the health programs in the Philippines, we decided to have our parents live with us in the US. Besides the care we are providing, my father wants to live in the Philippines. He died while his children were all in the US. My brother in laws ill father came to visit from the Philippines and to his doctor. He had enough time to see his children and grandchildren before passing. I keep on telling the younger generations, that our elders did the sacrifices so we can have a chance for a better life in a foreign land. Life in US is not easy but the chances of progress is way better than in the Philippines. In the Philippines, we don't stress that much because we are living poorly. Blackouts every week, no AC and no plumbing? We can still laugh and enjoy living. It's a 100 degrees where I live and I'm privilege to have AC and ice cream.
I have been in California for 63 yrs now, came here 1961, all my brothers and sisters are all here ,my cousins also, nieces , nephews, so we are what like nasa 100 na yata dito families ko , I cannot see myself retiring in the Philippines when everyone is here already my 9 siblings..cousins and all their kids. I hardly know anyone in the Phillipines na.

I left PI in 1978 and am glad I did. Not everyone enjoy retirement in Philippines. Wish you all the best!

Ganda ng kwento te Gi.. Been researching about retiring early about couple of years now. But tulad nung isang example mo, I love my work and realized that the most I can do probly is work part time 2x/week. (As if naman kakayanin ng savings ang full retirement 😂).

A very inspiring stories.
Retiring in the Philippines is not for every Filipino. Ang saya nyo dito sa States, nandito na lahat ng pamilya nyo! Nakakatuwa naman.
Ya the reason why you retire there is to be with family
