Are Gi I can relate to you. I retired in the US at 56 after working for 30 yrs. But not really retired because here I started my own business. Now I’m 65 and I’m glad umuwi ako. Life in the Philippines is priceless!
My American Husband wants us to semi retire na sa pinas next year, He is 42 I'm 41. Planning to sell our house disorder sa America, and use the money to start a small business sa pinas
Love your video about retirement in our motherland. I’m 61 na but now I’m getting homesick every day just watching RUclips videos of many foreigners blogging about our country. Last year I went back and stayed my longest for so many years: 1 month. Normally, 2 weeks lang and back to the US again. I realized how much I really missed on so many years of changes in our country, our city, our neighborhood. New restaurants every time I went home, new high rise condos, new gated community, new mall, new roads, new bridges, new high ways! Grabe Ang changes talaga. But the one thing I missed are my time spent in the provinces. The beaches, the breath of summer breeze, and the amazing sunsets. I thought of purchasing a condo in Manila but looking at the opportunity to purchase land and property in the provinces have also their pluses and benefits. My mom used to live here in the US but she opted to move back home where she is more happy now. I miss the Philippines sobra but I still have yet to decide if I really want to move back home for good. I’m actually wanting full retirement so I’m still enjoying work here sa US. Healthwise, kaya pa. I’m also in the Healthcare field so I find it enjoyable taking care of people. It keeps me busy and have a reason to wake up in the morning. Anyway, wish me luck, hope I get to go back again this year. That is how much I’m enjoying my time back home recently.
I think what you're doing is right...testing the waters...staying longer for vacation in the Philippines. Although vacation mode is different from actually living there. But your mom is a testament to the benefits of retiring in the Philippines. Good luck to you!!
I become emotional whenever retirement comes to mind. I offer my heartfelt apologies to those who, after years of diligent work and saving for retirement, faced unexpected events that led to significant losses. This situation is especially harsh for retirees
Today, it’s easier to figure out how to improve your retirement savings. With inflation, you can use a professional portfolio manager to explore different markets passively. The impact of US dollar shifts on assets is complex
Even if finance isn't your strong suit, you can always bring in an expert. My $850,000 retirement fund took a nosedive in April, but I quickly called in a financial advisor. They crafted a smart plan to turn things around, and I’ve since pocketed over $250,000
There are a few standout experts in this field. I’ve tested out a handful over the years, but June Renae Matthysse has been my top pick for the last five years. Her performance is consistently impressive, and she’s a real name to know in the industry. Check her out
I found her contact information, emailed her, and arranged a call. Fingers crossed she responds. I plan to start next year with a solid financial footing
Ate Gi, thanks that I got confirmation of my reasons why I retire at age 62 FROM MY WORK in Dubai. Before I am doubtful and regretful of my decision but now I am sure. Thank you and I pray for your happiness with your family and husband.
Hello, just like you I retired at 60 for the same reasons that you mentioned . It's been more than a year now and I never regretted my decision. Wishing you all the best as you enjoy your retirement years
Hello Ate Gi, nagretired kami ni Missis at 56.5 at 55 years old. Now we are living in Angeles City Pampanga. We had our little house build and trying life here in the Philippines. Like you, we just got overwhelmed with stress and realize life is too short. Now living simple life and looking forward to traveling. You mentioned about going to walked the 500 miles walked in Spain and I too is planning to do that next year.
@@JRPOSTMAN1999 hindi po ba binabaha dyan sa Angeles? We are interested to buy a home there for retirement too. Thank you po for answering my questions
Very true and relevant po ang video niyo. I am also a nurse here in UK. Worked as a nurse in UAE before moving to UK.
Hello! As I preach about retiring quite early, i know it's not an easy thing to do. It takes a lot of thought and justifications to actually take that leap. That's why I applaud you for retiring at 55! I still have 2 years to go. But we njoy traveling even before retirement. My husband and I call it "practicing retirement". Kamusta naman po ang being retired sa atin? Ok po ba?
I’m 36 years old nd living in Denmark but we are also moving to Philippines in 2 months and can’t wait for it. We really love being in the Philippines.
@@bornonjuly7052 i just realize po that there’s actually more opportunity in the Philippines, i see endless of business opportunities in our country than here. And besidess, it’s also good to spend more time with families.
You are an eye opener to many of us nurses here in the USA. Your perspectives about retirement in our native land are true and factual. I've been sharing your blogs with our colleagues who are ambivalent to retiring to our native land.
Hello! Thank you for sharing my videos. I only mean to share my experiences and perspectives without the intent to convince to retire in the Philippines. I realize that Philippines is not for everyone, not even for some FIlipinos who have adapted well to their lives abroad. I deeply appreciate your support for always watching my videos. MARAMING SALAMAT!
Husband & I retired a year & half ago, went back home to PI after 45 years in US…. We’re enjoying it & no regrets. You can visit us in Alfonso, Cavite next to Tagaytay, anytime.
I’ve been retired for 8 years now after working 38 years sa USA. I have 25 years sa Calpers, civil service (sales tax collector) and early retirement sa SS age 62 contribution total 38 years. Gusto kong bumalik pero natatakot ako. Hindi ko alam kung saan ang ideal na lugar for clean environment and safety for myself. Also, I’m not sure what requirements needed to retire in the Philippines dahil I don’t have dual citizenship and I’m hesitant to get one. I lived alone dito sa America, I have 3 children and 3 grandchildren pero alam mo na sa America, kanya kanya. Lahat nang mga anak hiwalay kami, iss sa San Francisco, yung isa sa Seattle, at yung is sa Colorado at ako sa Las Vegas, NV.
Just rent a condo in BGC. Very good location near St Luke's hospital it's near eveything. 1st step is to apply for dual citizenship every Monday check their site for online application at appointment sa phil consulate. @bengbeng208
Good call Ate Gi. My husband and I retired at age 56 and are enjoying our life here in the US and in the Philippines. And when we get bored in these 2 places, we can travel anytime and anywhere we like. Good luck and best wishes on your retirement.
Ate Gi!!!! I don't mind waiting for the next video if the quality is this good! The writing, voice over, the editing is on point! All your musings about life and retirement mirrors ours kaya relate na relate kami sayo! We are retiring in 2 yrs God willing, as soon as my husband turns 60. It will be difficult as we will be keeping our hous here. I am currently only 51 but has had a KT already for 6 yrs now. I am in relatively good health and trying my darnest to stay as healthy as i can for as long as i can, but you never know di ba? Kaya pinagmamadali ko na si hubs. We will be home in the Philippines in 2 weeks for a vacay and also to start preps for our future plans. Will be starting a business over there as well to help augment our retirement income na rin. I wish us luck ate Gi! Hope to be y'all's friend when we are both retirees in the motherland. We will be living in the Tagaytay area and hope to invite you pag may bahay na. hehehe looking forward to the next vlog!

Thank you for all your contents Ma’am. 3months palang ako dito sa US pero I am planning na para sa pag uwi ko. Totoo yung “Life in the Philippines is Priceless”.
It's never too early to plan for retirement. Yung mga anak ko, as soon as they started working, I asked them to start their retirement accounts. Compound interest builds over the years. Sani nga ni Einstein, compound interest is the best invention ever made. :-)
Miss Gi, nasa parehas ako ng sitwasyon at planu katulad sa nyo. Ofw naman ako sa SG for 16 yrs now balak ko na rin umuwi its about time na din. Philippines is calling me na. ❤ God Bless.
Hello Ate Gi, nakaka aliw po ang mga videos nyo. My husband I are in the same boat as you. Came here in 1999, now planning to go back to Pinas after 5 years, by the time our bunso finishes college. We share the same reasons for early retirement. As a nurse too, I work in Nursing facilities, it really open your eyes. They save money for retirement, wait at retirement age to enjoy their savings BUT they become sick, debilitated in their 50s and some in their 40s, never get the chance to enjoy what they've worked for. Then conflict arises between the children or next of kin, some court is involved fighting who gets the inheritance or the state/government will take it, or to pay for long term placement. It really sad to see these situations. It feels really good to hear people with the same outlook as ours.
Ate/Tita Gi I'm a big fan of your Channel. I'm 31 and turning 32 soon, my wife and I have been money Saavy the past 5 years and also planning on retiring a lot earlier than the norm. Magandang umaga po from Ilocos. Nakakatuwa po ang inyong mga videos, Ate Gi. Hi @AteGi another great blog again. Every time I watch your video It motivate me to really retire early perhaps 62. Just like you I started late in my retirement investment and does not really have any idea on money wise expenses when you are in Philippines. I plan seguro to have a part time job while in Philippines para lang may libangan tsaka mag travel too. Although, I take advantage to travel while I can kc nga I know when you reach a certain age mahirap ng mag travel.
@@felisak6053 hello! Yes, let’s not postpone traveling. It’s best to travel while we are still earning. The downside is that we have limited time kasi we need to go back to work soon. But we’re thankful for everything we have. We know that the Lord will continue to bless us at the next stage of our life. Thanks for always watching!
Hello ate Gi. I don't normally comment on posts here on YT pero I can't help making an exception to your video. First, I appreciate the transparency and honesty. Wala akong pagkukunwari or pretensions na naramdaman. Ang gaan ng pakiramdam ko while watching your video. Maganda din ang pagkakagawa and the narration is perfect. By the way, I am here in California and moved here 20 years ago via family petition. Nandito family namin including my 91 year-old mom. I am now 53 and works in the medical field like you. The reason why I am commenting is that pareho tayo ng goal to retire early and we have a lot of similarities especially in our values and how we look at life (your reasons 1-3, I fully agree 100%). I can say that we are a rare species here in the US kasi naman alam natin na bihira sa mga pinoy dito sa America to know that they already have enough and to prioritize living life to the fullest. Like you, I am now financially stable and no financial obligations. I was able to reach this stage despite traveling 3-4 times a year for the past 18 years kasi I lived below my means and lived a simple life. I prioritized saving money since I started here in the US. Dalawa lang kami ng asawa ko and our 3 cats. We are looking to move either to the Philippines or to a country in Europe (Spain or France) in 9 years or less. I have very flexible schedule naman sa trabaho kaya para na din akong semi-retired for the past 15 years. Anyways, kudos to you again! It feels so refreshing to find someone who looks at life in a similar way that I do. Ang galing mo! Subscribing to your channel right now :)
@noodleAdik Hello! First of all, thanks for taking the time to comment. It feels great connecting with someone who share the same outlook in life. I'm happy for you that your entire family is in the States na. That's the best. Truly, home is where our family is. My best to you on your retirement plans. Spain and France are both close to our hearts. We plan to stay there longer and immerse ourselves in their cultures when we retire. The Philippines, of course, will be our home base. She did mention before that she will also be caring for her mother in place of her sister who has been doing it. On top of that, being a nurse entails serving the sick.
I wish I can do the same retiring in the Phil. Kaya lang we are all here in the US. I am single & I'm taking meds for hbp & cholesterol. Thank God, everything is in control & I'm an active person. I've accepted it. Kaya siguro pasyal na lang sa Pinas.
Same situation here except sa health. I am not taking any maintenance meds. I was in Pinas Nov 2023 to Jan 2024 and for some reason I missed my family right before Christmas. I think I was used to be with family every Christmas holidays after living in the states for 46 years. I have a small house built in Tarlac to serve as my retirement home although we have a family house in Quezon City. I think I am not ready to move back in Pinas yet although I have retired for almost 4 years now. I still have house here in California and all my siblings are nearby. For now, I can go back and forth in the Phils and do my travels until I decide where to retire.

All I can say, and I'm saying it to myself every time I worry about my financial stability in the future, "people survive with less" as you've said. In short, nabubuhay nga yung iba na less than pa sa minimum ang kinikita at masaya pa, tayo pa kaya.
It’s good that you have an open mind knowing what to expect in PH. For the same reasons that you mentioned, I also retired this year, quite early at 51 yo after years of corporate life/ stress as a Finance professional. I now enjoy slow living, taking care of my dogs, family, have more time for spiritual life, while I do active investing, stock market trading on the side. My younger sister COOKED POT ROAST at our cousins in the Philippines. The entire recipe costs over PH peso 1,500 at SM Groceries. Basic meat (2 lbs.), potatoes, celery, and carrots. My cousins and their kids were astonished! they could not stop eating. Although they regularly eat beef, they prefer having pork as main dish. My sister loves choice fish only. Before her vacation ended, she made spaghetti with out of this world meat sauce, which my cousins confessed they never had before.

I love the soothing narration, wisdom & valuable information you shared. Most especially the shot of Foster City lagoon. My American dream now is to retire at 60 (as early as 55) to escape the high cost of living in the US, slow travel in Latin America & live a quiet simple life.
Ate GI, I'm saving earnestly because they kept the price tag of aging hidden. What is enough, we'll never really know but I've decided that someday soon, I will no longer keep chasing it because while I can save money, time can run out. Thanks for sharing your wisdom. It hit me at the end of your video when you said, "Totoo 'yon"! I got all choked up and almost cried. 🥰
I intentionally made my music upbeat in the end to prevent people from crying 😘 The cost of aging is relative. If we can live our lifestyle reasonably and have been practical with our savings, ok na yon.
@@official_ate_gi_channel Saving and investing are essential. I’ve enjoyed living minimally for sometime now, within reasons. Finally another video from you ! I totally agree with you . Been in Cali for 22 years! But with what’s going on the government… I have to wait a while… soon we will be home
As much as ones financial stability upon retirement is a must, retiree also have to account for 8 hours a day 5 days a week. People, regardless of where they retire, feel isolation and loss of worth. Its great you are addressing some of these things because retirement can also add a different type of stress and the feeling of "what to do". There is a difference between having 3 months off of employment work than being off and retired...
I would like to retire at an early age, 65 maximum and 62 minimum age... I like the idea of enjoying my life in the Philippines and do what i want whenever I want, and that's real freedom. I will vlog my life coming to retirement very soon.
Thanks for an inspiring narrative about early retirement. I stopped working about 2 years ago and I’m now 55 and my husband as well. As for me stopped working mainly because I was diagnosed w/ SLE seven years ago. Luckily I worked as a nurse in a county hospital in the US for years which entitled me to retire as early as 50(CALPERS).Although I applied for retirement at 53. Currently doing a European trip and heading to Spain soon. Thank God with medication I am currently doing fine and trying to live life to the fullest as long as I can. We already have a place in Batangas where we will settle after our European tour.
Im retiring back to the PI from Bay Area next year at 53. "Frog in the Boiling Pot" maybe a myth but somehow there is a partial truth in it. The level of stress at work place are immensely growing everytime without knowing it. We kinda just like take and take on the stress level until we all fall down.
@@doodsnagali9935 that’s true. And since I used this frog in boiling water myth, I’m more and more aware of my stresses. 😩 But I still have thing to accomplish before retiring so work pa more. When im off, i just find ways to relieve the stress. Thanks for watching!!
The same here in Canada.Very boring place specially when you are now old.Hapiness with your relatives, simple life living in the philippines no stress and serving God.that is the best decision.Life in the western countries are stressful.

Great analogy on the frog that is placed in a cold water that is slowly heated! While I may think I am not stressed in my current work, I need to entertain the possibility that I may be and just not notice it. I am nearing 50 and I contemplate on early retirement to maximize the healthy years living life on my own terms. Having seen multiple early retirement channels and survey, financial insecurity may be top of mind but study suggests that this is often just a mental aspect. No amount is ever enough and we often just keep moving the bar once we hit a specific milestone. We then end up delaying retirement for "...another year".
Correct. And study shows that people usually save more than enough. In fact, Boston University study reveals that 18 years after retirement, most retirees still have 80% of their retirement savings intact. So the mental aspect that it may not be enough persists, since retirees are not spending enough, not enjoying the money they saved for retirement.
We had a person at my old job that died a week before her retirement. A lot of us believe she died because of stress. Basically, no plans once she retires. You have to have plans and goals when you retire. I can retire now if I want to in my mid 40s (passive income set and healthcare set) but I don’t have any plans what exactly what I’m going to do once I retire. Goals, I do. But the good thing is that I gave myself a deadline. Which is approximately eight years from now. Going back to live in the Philippines is one of the plan. I’m just hoping to God that I get to live many more years once I retire.
@@jefpduct8725 And that is always our prayer: To be in good health when the time comes. No amount of planning can account for our health’s turn out. But with faith in God, we will be fine. Thanks for watching!!
I'm 67 and still working. I don't plan to retire anytime soon. Last year I had a surgery and was advised not to do anything physically challenging. for a month. For a month! And that's when the thought of retirement scared me lol Anong gagawin ko kung wala na kong gagawin? Travel? One week or two? Repeat? Then what? Nakakapagod din ang travel kala nyo. Working keeps me sharp. I work for a global company. Lucky me our dept is like a startup with lots of fun young people. No stress environment so far and I am on flexible schedule so wala ding stress sa traffic. I've been blessed. Nga pala, I just started collecting SS so we've been saving and investing.
@@WAN2TREE4 awww.. you are so blessed to have a job like that. Apart from you loving it, the young peeps will keep you youthful. And a flex schedule is icing on the cake!! I think as long as we’re content with whatever stage we are in life, we’ve got it made. Thanks for watching!
I may not in your situation or someone's situation yet when it comes to age with more experience and wisdom but just a friendly advice, I think you had mentioned or suggested this already in one of your videos but for the purpose of some viewers here who are also interested to move back to the Phils. for good, I would say before deciding for the big one, try to live in the Philippines first or any place where you prefer to stay for retirement, for 1 to 2 years before you do the move. I know for most of us who were born and pretty much were raised in the Philippines will probably find it a little easier just to think about it but try to consider the possible factors that might concern you in the long run (health access, emergency needs, safety, travel time, people, gov't leadership, calamity and disaster response, living situation, etc.) and the overall aspects. Most esp if you had lived abroad and got used to your current living situation. Fully immersed yourself again to see and assess if this will work for you long term. After you did all of that, planning and saving up for your future retirement home and other business to venture out for extra income will be a plus! It is indeed fun in the Philippines not until you experience the said factors I just mentioned above. God forbid.🙏 But, those are just realities we have to face tho.😔 Again, this is a case to case basis. This may not apply to everyone so you can disregard this if you think this is not applicable to you for any reason. Whatever works with you are still your ultimate decision. Good luck!

If I were in your position i will also do the same, tulad nga ng madalas nating marinig, life is too short at dagdagan ko na rin ng kasabihan na, " we work to and not live to work". Siguro para ma-enjoy natin ang retirement years natin, dapat ay alagaan natin yung kalusugan natin, health is wealth ika nga. Congratulations!
We're with you Ate Gi! We retired to the Philippines 5 years ago at age 58, and have been enjoying early "retirement" life. We are not super rich but have more than enough. Yes, we could have stayed longer in the USA, but you know what? You realize Time is more important and valuable than money. If you have enough, why slave away to earn more? When is it enough? Everyone needs to answer that question for themselves. We have no regrets at all ... Just got back from Hawaii visiting relatives... After 3 weeks was already feeling homesick for the Philippines 😂
Discovered your YT channel today, and enjoyed it! We are in the same boat Gi, planning our retirement and trying to decide whether we stay here in Australia, or retire in the Philippines. Financially it make sense, but we have our daughters here which makes us want to stay. Ahh decisions, decisions! I'll watch some more of your video to gain insights. cheers!
Separating from family is a tough choice. My perspectives in retiring aren't meant to persuade, but I hope it provides a perspective that people can consider. Thanks for watching!
There's no place like home ... iba pa rin ang saya sa Pinas. I live permanently in other country for 9 years now, but I already acquired properties in the Philippines balak sana namin ibenta kaso we decided wag nalang because we are still considering retiring in the Philippines in the future ☺
This is the reason why I'm advocating for Geriatric Care Management sa Pinas and Dementia advocacy on the right language and approach. Pasno Kung tumanda na tayo? Kaya ba tayong alagaan? Me pera nga tayo pero walang enough infrastructure for Geriatric Care sa atin. Hindi pa portable ang Medicare. Yung naipon natin mauubos sa medical Care. I like your video. Maybe we could collaborate in the future. Beautiful soothing voice, too. 😊
Thank you Ellen! I was a geriatric nurse director for many years. I'm watching your talk about Dementia: Up Close and Personal. Amazing! Yes, maybe we could collaborate one day to broaden knowledge about geriatric care sa atin. Thank you for watching!!

I want to retire kung may 50k/month sana na passive income. Stress will kill me early, kaya gusto ko nlng mag fulltime farming and venture into agribusiness. Dko akalaing ganito pala ang adulting. Your vlogs help me to plan and navigate my retirement in Philippines easier. At nabibigyan ako ng reassurance na its ok talaga to go back kasi kadalasan pag sinasabi kong uuwi ako for good lagi nila ako dini discourage at mahirap nga dw sa pinas. Pero kung araw araw naman akong nalulungkot dito ganon din dba?
@@Narsisis hello! It’s good that you have goals that you’re working for. Bedside nursing is really hard so you may want to consider looking for other nursing positions.
They crafted a smart plan to turn things around, and I’ve since pocketed over $250,000
That’s wonderful! Do you think your advisor might be willing to speak with a stranger? I’m in serious need of proper portfolio allocation

I wish I will retire at 56
Why did you choose Angeles Pampanga for your retirement home po?

We share the same reasons for early retirement. As a nurse too, I work in Nursing facilities, it really open your eyes. They save money for retirement, wait at retirement age to enjoy their savings BUT they become sick, debilitated in their 50s and some in their 40s, never get the chance to enjoy what they've worked for. Then conflict arises between the children or next of kin, some court is involved fighting who gets the inheritance or the state/government will take it, or to pay for long term placement. It really sad to see these situations. It feels really good to hear people with the same outlook as ours.
That's true. People in healthcare are exposed to these realities so often that it becomes an eye opener. Thank you for watching.

Travels abroad I need my kids to join us , and be our diy travel guides 😅
You got personal tour guides! lol! so good to know that things worked out well for you.

That's Amazing!!! Enjoy!!! Thanks for sharing!

Congrats for reaching that milestone. It is certainly a blessing to have that option. Iba parin talaga sa atin.
totoo yan! iba talaga sa atin. It's true that we are blessed to have another retirement venue. Many people don't have that blessing.
Same din po mindset ko. I’m 35 right now and plan ko mag retire in my 40s. Just came back from Pinas at ang masasabi ko mas masaya pa din sa atin.
Iba pa rin sa atin, no? It's good that you are planning for retirement now. Save more, spend less (for now) to achieve your pan to retire in your 40's. Thanks for watching!
I love the soothing narration, wisdom & valuable information you shared. Most especially the shot of Foster City lagoon. My American dream now is to retire at 60 (as early as 55) to escape the high cost of living in the US, slow travel in Latin America & live a quiet simple life.
Looks like you live in the same area where I live ☺ .Bay Area cost of living is just too high. My best to you on your retirement plans!

I retired at 58. It was the best decision I made. Fully agree with all the reasons you are retiring early. Contentment is the key to a happy retirement.
I am with you on that. Contentment is key to happiness, doesn't matter where we are.
It is a win-win situation I believe. So really, nothing to worry on. Health what matters the most.
You are absolutely right!

That is true. I talked about that in another video, the 4 stages of retirement. Thanks for watching!
@@official_ate_gi_channel That is a great video! Physical, mental, and emotional health needs to be in focus upon retirement!

This indeed the way it should be! I started retiring when I turned 40 so at least half of my life is enjoyable.

Hi Ate Gi

We had a person at my old job that died a week before her retirement. A lot of us believe she died because of stress. Basically, no plans once she retires.
You have to have plans and goals when you retire. I can retire now if I want to in my mid 40s (passive income set and healthcare set) but I don’t have any plans what exactly what I’m going to do once I retire. Goals, I do. But the good thing is that I gave myself a deadline. Which is approximately eight years from now. Going back to live in the Philippines is one of the plan. I’m just hoping to God that I get to live many more years once I retire.

Good luck!
Everything you said is practical and good advice. Thank you!!
