- In this episode, I get the intake manifolds reattached, all accessories and belts, carbon canister, intake and fuel injection systems finalised. And I attempt to start her up!
Wow 80 mins and not a second of it wasted ,in fact I wish I saw more. Excellent work on both the car and editing 👍👍
So glad there's no music or other distractions. Just pure content.
Very enjoyable to watch.
Sometimes you find a gem of a channel, this is one of them. Glad that I found yours!
Filmed perfectly with good commentary that I can learn from.
You deserve that pint, fantastic work, attention to detail is brilliant. Great work and you should be proud of that engine
55:07 looks like it just rolled off the assembly line in 1994!! Nice work mate
This is the most comprehensive M70 content I've ever seen.
Try M539 Restorations 😂😂😂
@@davidfitzpatrick4041a job like this is something he’d do between oil changes just for fun 😂
Since you say there is rust in the rear suspension, you should remove the rear subframe and see what, if any rust is hidden. Great job by the way! I just finished doing the heads on my 91 850i, and my first start, happened pretty much the same as yours did😁
Project M539 reloaded.
A lot more details and just as good.
Keep up the good work.
Great project... at 13:35 your rubber fuel return line touches the air cond. fill line. You shoud add some extra thickness at the place where they touch if you cannot put some space in between. in time it will eat through the fuel line.
Well done Sir!
This episode was worth the wait.
It brought such a large smile on my face when you cranked her up!
Keep up the good work!
Finally I would definitely do the body work prior to the suspension etc...
I must admit, when i saw you realizing the starter is broken, i thought, oh no another month or more to wait until we get to see/listen the engine running. Great job, great content which was worth the long waiting. Thank you for sharing it. 👍👍🤝
Great video just needed an intermission. You can restore discolored reservoirs for washer fluid and coolant with sulfamic acid. Works perfectly. Will try to post the RUclips link. Cheers
An excellent job by a true professional and a Guiness test by a true Irishman ! I do like BMW they are superb. A few years ago I had an E32 seven series, 3 litre, which I kept for 10 years; Glacier Blue and Dove Grey leather. I miss it. Interestingly I sold it to a man from the irish Republic. A V12 8 series is the tops. I thinks its worth you carrying on with the restoration, thought its expensive.
Fabulous walk thru + Play by Play Commentary.
Thank you Steve! I just did a lot of the same work to my 850 6spd. Practically new rubber parts everywhere, bead blasting intakes and other parts. I was hoping for this video 2 weeks earlier, however I got my car pulled together and running past weekend. Actually, your videos inspired me to dig deeper in my 850 and replace more necessary parts. Great to see your car start and run, great work!!!!
That’s a beast of a job restoring the engine bay and the rebuild of top end. Always a bit worrying on first start ( just finished a total rebuild of my e39 M5) plus a huge relief when it fires up and completes its first heat cycle. I’ve been using your video for a diy guide on the intake gaskets for my 91 850i/6. The old wiring casing(plastic shielding) and rubber hoses (fuel, pcv) are completely brittle. It’s like delicate surgery trying not to break anything that isn’t being replaced yet at least until the engine is up and running again
No envy here, only admiration and congratulations.
Feature length, eh? Savage work gone into that. A beaut, no doubt. Can't wait to see it out and about 👍
Respekt and thanks for this wonderful job, what a great pleasure to see the fruits of your work resulting in a shiny and perfectly working engine. I am looking really forward for your new videos. The main reason I bought a dirty E32 750i that sat for 16 years are your videos. Tks again.
Always a satisfying moment after all the graft with these big engines well done 👏
Great work Steve... I drove a 1991 850 for a month or so a few years back...told myself I would do a restomod on one in the future..time to do it.
Your channel is very helpful. I built an Ultima GTR in 2010.. pretty straight forward so am looking forward to buying and starting.
Great job Steve
Mark....New Zealand
Finally. Yes. loving the series, been waiting patiently since the last one. Awesome work!
Thanks Steve,Excellent work!
Now I know how to replace my starter motor!
Great mechanic skills you have sir
Eventually!!!!! Roll on seeing this on the roads in Louth
I wondered what had happened to this old girl! Good to see the progress and the engine sounds healthy. Looking fwd to what comes next.
I had a 1991 in calypso red, it had FIKSE forged alloys and a Dinan 3.94 limited slip differential, 2 chips for the motor and 1 for the transmission, it removed the 155-mph speed limiter, the car was set up at Sears point raceway.
Hi Steve, it’s Alan, the last owner of your beautiful 850. Fantastic work under the bonnet and really pleased that the engine was in good enough condition to benefit from the extensive rebuild and all your effort. I hope the rest of the car can also take the work that’s needed. I look forward to seeing the videos when you are ready. Best regards.
The joyous “holy fuck” when it turned over made me a fan. Congrats!
I simply LOVE watching your work, superb video. Thanks
Congratulations, well done sir! I’m traveling the same road with a ‘98 540 and can’t wait to turn the corner on putting it back together again and starting her up. Cheers!
Welcome back 😊. Awesome and detailed video as usual. Waiting anxiously for the next video. Greetings from South Africa.
Well done to you sir your a very lucky man having the intelligence to strip and re build that lovely car excellent to you enjoy your Guinness
Must be a great feeling 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥that first start 👌🏿👌🏿👌🏿amazing work
Well done, fantastic job on restoring the engine bay and getting the beast alive again.
I feel your pain on the starter motor job, I am going to be doing that on my car soon (1997, M73 E31, LHD that I've owned since 2007). My car hasn't been used much for the last 4 years and now needs a fair amount of work. I'm going to be doing as you did - replace all rubber hoses, all coolant hoses, all hydraulic lines, I have a leak from one of the valve cover gaskets and the oil pan looks like it's been leaking too. Headliner is sagging. It sounds like a long list but in reality, for a 24 year old car it's still in amazing condition. I crawled under it yesterday to see how the underside has fared, it's actually in great condition with no rust, at least I won't have too many battles against the dreaded tin worm!
Good luck with the rest of the work, I've subscribed and I'm looking forward to watching new videos from you - I watched all of your E31 series so far :-)
That engine bay is pristine
Big thx for all your videos ! It's really helpful
Love the excitement in your voice throughout this video!
Congratulations - BIG moment!!
I wasn’t able to save my fuel pump assembly and simply rewire it, replace pumps , hoses and rubber mounts so that set me back 1100$. It adds up fast $$$. But I believe this model will continue to grow in popularity and value as there simply isn’t anything else that looks even close to its appearance . Not sure how much driving enjoyment it gives (since my 850i/6 isn’t road ready yet) but I have 2000M5 for that
No words to express how helpful this is. Thanks for taking the time to share!
A great video. I really like your comments and descriptions as you progress.
It's Christmas every time you turn the key. Congrats Mate
Steve. Greetings from the Virgin Islands. What an absolute treat it was to watch you go through this process. It was fascinating to see not only how it was done but also getting to see how you kept all of this so organized. Excellent job on the whole series. Can’t wait to see you continue on this journey.
The “dont f*ck this up” moment was the subscribe decision point for me. Great narration.
Very nice! Love to see more.
Started like a german uboat. But you did a perfect job. Love your video!
Love the channel! Incredible work.
Just one small advice, more episodes but shorter, it's better for us and for you I think.
Great work really ! These 1 hour and 20 minutes felt like a breeze. Looking forward to the next step
Perfect Work 💙💜❤️ Respect 👍🏽
Great to see another 8 back on the road soon. I put a Quaiffe LSD fitted to my CSI so worth looking at, it makes a big difference in cornering and on wet surfaces. Having the whole rear axle refurbished with new bushes also notably a big improvement. New shocks all round will be worth doing,
Just wow, amazing work! I'm restoring the m73n of my 750ial currently. Moving in on the finish line to start up
Awesome detail subbed to see how the rest goes given the quality of work done.
Nice work man!
Great job! Congrats! I used to have 2001 BMW 750 IL, love that engine!
Very nice rebuild. One bit of advice, a new starter is a absolute must no sense going to such lengths only to not be able to start up.
Без лишней музыки, хорошее видео thanks mister
Learned a bunch which, should make my job way easier........nice work.
Finally a RUclips suggestion worth watching!!!!!!
Great videos. I enjoyed watching them all the way from Portland Oregon.
More than an hour full of entertainment, THANKS A LOT!
I had an ear to ear smile when that baby fired up 😄 You did an awesome job sir as always, loving this series so much. Can't wait for more. Have a good one, cheers ✌
Just seen this channel, it looks like i will be busy watching this on my night shift.
Only just found the channel really enjoying it
Welcome back 🙂 love your episodes. Hope for more. I would proceed with the rust and afterwards the suspension issues. Keep on with more often videos
Great job mate!
Superb stuff :-) Transmission fluid level must be checked when it's warm, it can make a good bit of difference. Our E34 Alpina B10 M30 has one of those throttle bodies because it had the optional traction control.
Well done 👏✔
There is some special about a personal with passion.
The day I build my own engine, it'll be an inspiration by passionate people like you. You and Sreten ( M539 Restorations) are just awesome 👌. Well done.
Wll done! Your practical approach is very good!
The Guiness smoothness test was epic. Incredible job, well done. Good luck with the rusty parts.
Well done mate just watched your video on the 850i enjoyed every minute of it 👍👍👍
Steven, this is absolutely fantastic job ! Attention to detail is incredible! Very happy for you amigo!!
Incredible! I've been rationing these videos for myself since discovering your channel a few months ago, almost a bit sad when I started watching thinking the finale would be your last. Looking forward to body and suspension work!
Best video to watch if u cant sleep haha good job m8!!
I am really happy for you it started man, great job! Glasblasted aluminum will have a slightly rough service which makes it perfectly fine and ready for quick and nasty white oxidation, and the adhesion of dirt and grease will be much more easier. I personally would have chosen for soda ore water blasting, which is good for cleaning. So it’s good you’ve coated the parts. I am not so of the cohesion of clearcoat on, even blasted, aluminum. But I certainly hope it will stick and won’t peel off in the future. Than again, grate respect for such projects!!!!
Great episode, fun to watch. I do have an E32 with this engine and I think it does not sound properly. It sounds more like an old V8 engine. This V12 sounds more smooth, like an aeroplane. Hard to describe, the engine sound more contans, you cannot hear any cylinders. You might have a look into this, I am sure you will find the cause :) good luck!
Love to see a new episode Steve
Glad to see the result so good. Congratulations!
Excellent video and great progress. Congratulations. You might want to consider a new timing chain tensioner, there seems to be some chain noise at idle.
It's on the list! 🙆
I don't think one pint is enough, have another you deserve it,excellent fastidious workmanship it was a pleasure to watch. If I may can I offer some advice on what to do next,I speak as a retired panel beater.99% of cars apart from the crashed ones, end up in the scrap yard due to bodywork faults i,e rust.Mechanical work can always be repaired,no so with bodywork it's very costly these days and on some cars you are no longer allowed to MIG weld or Gas weld certain areas of the car, these areas either have to be spot welded or bonded to maintain it's designed crumple zones. My advice would be,do the bodywork next.
Thanks Brian, that's the plan.
Please do the suspension and all the things now that you have done so much love to the engine. Keep it up!
Love watching these videos on complex engine configurations and then go work on my w124 300d lol
Great work well deserved pint. One of my dream cars. 🏴🏴🏴
Wow just wow running like come from the first day from deler .
Guiness test was wonderful!)
Thank you sir for all your hard work, just the mechanical work alone is crazy and I can't imagine the editing/filming part, has to be 100's of hours. You sir are a beast! Can't wait to see the next one.
I love that "10 second refurb" at 54:38. I'm sure that it took a lot longer!
Can’t believe how smooth it runs. Congratulations man. Hope you get all the funds you need to keep it up.
I properly enjoyed this.
Congratulations,great job TITAN!!!
Absolutely amazing work!!
Very nice, cheers for making these 😁
Great video ! By far one of the most in dept videos of the e31 . I appreciate you taking the time to show us everything in detail .
That was a hell of a job there. You deserved that pint of Guinness.
Nice job! There should be a 'seal' between the engine cover and the intake runners too
Great job , hope to see the next episode soon.
I would vote body work first then suspension and interior/electrical gremlins last.....and also a ceramic coating of anything that can be coated
Magnificent! Function and form, beautiful attention to detail and did it the right way. Solid investment in doing it ALL the right way. Congrats and look forward to seeing more.
good to see you're back!
You did a phenomenal job on this vehicle and should be commended. Congratulations!
Incredible. It is the word. You deserve more subscribers regarding your care on your job! Thanks for the serie!
