Really intelligent way of making the first boss of the game feel memorable, as the original fight is very cut and dry in 2D. This fight adds a lot more tension and plays to the mechanics of the control style better.
Makes sense why others don't go this route. Many players find it more natural to play a 2d game with a proper d-pad or analog stick. For them, using WASD feels unnatural for something that requires precision platforming. WASD is fine for FPS games, though, since you don't need that much precision to move your character. Also, 2D Metroid games can get away with 8-direction aiming since the lack of a third axis makes aiming so much simpler. In short, people prefer controllers over keyboards for 2d Metroid games since you typically need a fair amount of precision for platforming and don't need that much precision for aiming.

Incredible job! Part of me wishes for the controls to be purely Super Metroid style, but at the same time, I am blown away by the way you all combined the free look feel of the mouse and scanning, but kept the 2D spirit. 10/10 on beautifully blending SM and MP. Outstanding work!
I was never a fan of the 3D genre of metroid and now someone made something even better than the original 2D metroid AND the fan made games too (mostly AM2R which I still love). Can't wait to try this out.

I kept seeing thumbnails of this for a while and thought it looked kinda like a janky flash game but damn it actually looks really good in motion. Pretty funny how much it looks like SR and Dread too with the free aiming.

Presumably, when people release these glorious demos of unfinished projects into the wild, they are dreaming of their game impressing the relevant IP owners and this blossoming into the next 'Sonic Mania'. This is a Nintendo IP, however. Those complaining "why did release this before you completed development??". The answer, simply, is as per the above. It's a developmental flex. The demo isn't so much for us (initially) but more of a CV piece for potential business interest a la Sonic Mania. Failing that, such talent will have to go the Bloodstained 'definitely not Castlevania' route ❤️
This is what games were about in my opinion. Sprites and limiting pixel backgrounds that become unlimited in our minds - endless possibilities that know no boundaries for adventures and circumstances! Interactive well made levels. Mesmerizing music that completes the emersion...
It's incredible how they transformed the 3D level structure into a 2D environment. They managed to copy the rooms so accurately that I can see myself playing Prime and following the normal path of progression. The tunnel with the bugs on the second floor and the wasps right before the gate, it's all there.
I'm blown away with this! This shit is CRAZY. The amount of detail is astonishing. The visuals, some top notch shit for the indie industry; THE ATMO, HOLY SHIT! The encompassing of the spritework art and the progressive music is on some other level. Kudos to the devs for giving us full the Metroid experience. Also, very cool implementation of mouse and keyboard to emulate the Metroid: Samus Returns Remake feel to it. I think they should go all out with that idea and add a melee counter as well. The enemy AI is actually aggressive, so it makes sense to add a counter. Probably not as easy as MSR, people seemed to have an issue with that, so something as tight as a 3rd Strike parry would be optimal and a double damage penalty if you miss the timing to deal with spam. All in all, good shit man. This is where Metroid is at and it should ever stay.
Wow I'm surprised there's still a Metroid Prime 2d project in the works. I remember years ago seeing the first iteration of this. Looks completely different now. Happy to see the project never died.
I am well over impressed with this. Especially the second part to the boss. Lobed the out of box thinking while incorporating a prior unit from a nastolgic game. The transition was seemless. It was perfection i swear. Good stuff. You can see the love in this game

Fun fact! In tallon overworld, next to those blast caps closest to the elevator to chozo ruins, you can morph ball down and get bombs, which opens up even more missile tanks! (I have been playing this demo for the past 2 hours lmao)

This is so compelling - before seeing this demo footage, I would have said "just leave the Prime features to 3D, no need to make 2D metroid something it isn't," etc. The way the scan visor is implemented with the free-aim is fantastic.

This is when the project felt legit to me. It's a remake with soul and originality.
I do think it's weird how it is the same design as B.O.X from Metroid Fusion since B.O.X was made by the Federation and this was made by the Chozo.

Technically at least most of this stuff isnt sprites, its 3D objects with a filter to look pixelated, like Dead Cells

I'm blown away with this! This shit is CRAZY. The amount of detail is astonishing. The visuals, some top notch shit for the indie industry; THE ATMO, HOLY SHIT! The encompassing of the spritework art and the progressive music is on some other level. Kudos to the devs for giving us full the Metroid experience.
Also, very cool implementation of mouse and keyboard to emulate the Metroid: Samus Returns Remake feel to it. I think they should go all out with that idea and add a melee counter as well. The enemy AI is actually aggressive, so it makes sense to add a counter. Probably not as easy as MSR, people seemed to have an issue with that, so something as tight as a 3rd Strike parry would be optimal and a double damage penalty if you miss the timing to deal with spam.
All in all, good shit man. This is where Metroid is at and it should ever stay.
Wow I'm surprised there's still a Metroid Prime 2d project in the works. I remember years ago seeing the first iteration of this. Looks completely different now. Happy to see the project never died.
It feels unique and special just like how i remember Prime 1.
This was beautifully done, I also love that the scan feature was included, in a 2d no less, I'm not sure if that's ever been done before.

I am well over impressed with this. Especially the second part to the boss. Lobed the out of box thinking while incorporating a prior unit from a nastolgic game. The transition was seemless. It was perfection i swear. Good stuff. You can see the love in this game

Fun fact! In tallon overworld, next to those blast caps closest to the elevator to chozo ruins, you can morph ball down and get bombs, which opens up even more missile tanks! (I have been playing this demo for the past 2 hours lmao)

Metroid Prime remains one of the greatest adventures ever.
This truly is amazing. If Nintendo were smart, they'd hire this guy, put together a team, and make this happen. But then they're not, so to the 'what if' basket it goes.

This is so compelling - before seeing this demo footage, I would have said "just leave the Prime features to 3D, no need to make 2D metroid something it isn't," etc. The way the scan visor is implemented with the free-aim is fantastic.
