This is a really cool fangame, and everyone should know about it.

(Nintendo took down the game, so just google it and you should find it)
Seriously go play it it's really good.
To this day, it's still satisfying as hell to hear Samus read that iconic line:
"The last Metroid is in captivity. The galaxy is at peace."
...Of course we all know that's a big fat lie, but it doesn't make it any less satisfying to me.
It was super badass to tie it in to Super Metroid. Also I played this when it came out and never noticed the dedicated to Iwata. That's awesome. This game was so good I won't what happened to the people behind it.
After my first play through I was pleasantly surprised to hear that line
I closed the game and immediately did a playthrough of Super Metroid :D

Every time I play the official remake I always get confused thinking there's gonna be a second phase to the queen metroid.
The queen Metroid looks so much more animated.
The one who made this masterpiece should make a deal with Nintendo. Nintendo would make a ton of $$!

just a quick point, I don't think that they could remake any future games with the same impact. fusion would need better graphics to re capture the feeling of the game being scary and super metroid is too slimier to am2r's engine. they could change things but their game play engine feels iconic and changing it would loose the charm that am2r has
Nintendo SHOULD have thought of that, but they were too shortsighted and anal to get over their own pride...
Nintendo actually banned this game for some reason. It looks really good though. I'm at least glad nintendo made their own remake.

A great fan re-make I enjoyed, and already Nintendo has answered to our request and officially the remake is happening. Plus were getting Metroid Prime 4 as another surprise.

The dev is keeping with the tradition of using Godzilla monster roars for the bosses. Very nice.

The metroid queen, alone of her entire species, genus, family, order, class, and probably phylum if we're honest about it, is indeed "vaguely reptilian" without actually being a Hard-To-Destroy Reptile.

I had a glitch with the gravity suit that persisted until I cleared the game. Once I get the suit Samus disappears; you can still see the screw attack effect, and other particle effects like speed booster but, other than that you are completely invisible. I had to beat the omega metroids with varia suit taking HUGE amount of damage (it was on hard mode) so yeah. Many people were reporting that as well on the site and now It seems it only affects some people.
i just hit and run the omega lol with those gaps to hide in. honestly the zeta metroids were the hardest lol
The game got a 1.1 patch that fixes that.

there is a metal version of the queen fight theme on youtube that is awesome. I recommend you convert that video to mp3 then convert the mp3 to a .ogg file and replace the queen theme in your am2r files by naming it exactly the same as the old queen theme. It makes the queen fight EPIC! especially if you power bomb the queen right as the track hits it's last note. just try it.

It's called MQ2, and it's from the first "Harmony of a Hunter" album produced by Shinesparkers.
You *can* find it on RUclips, *or* (better idea) you can download it for free and not waste bandwidth/need an internet connection for it all the time. They also made a second (even better imo) album called "HoaH: 101% Run". Nearly every source track from the Metroid series that didn't get an arrangement on the first album gets one in the second album, and (unlike some of the tracks from the first album) they're all pretty good.
This remake is the shit. Got it before it was taken down and I love it. The new one is cool but I like this one better.

Shutting this down was such a stupid decision on Nintendo's part
If I'm not mistaken, it's a situation where Nintendo pretty much had to issue the takedown notice, as in some regions (USA being a major one) companies can weaken or even lose their intellectual property rights if they don't actively enforce them.
At least Nintendo seemed to have a sense of reason to it, letting the original dev finish and release the game before sending the takedown requests some time later. They could have killed the game at a far earlier stage if they wanted to, but seems they wanted it to get out there on the internet, but also enforce their IP rights.
And afterward, there's been patches and mods done by other people, as IIRC, the original dev agreed to stop development as per the takedown notice.

Samus Returns was so corny with its QTE boss finishers and surprise Ridley fights. This feels more like Metroid

How nice of the devs to let the player fire some fucking missiles while being in the queen's maw. Played blind on hard and shit like this should be a cutscene, not a quick time event without showing you what button to press.

Don't think it will happen. They remade this game cause it was on Gameboy and not played much. Also it was all monochromatic.
Super Metroid is still enjoyed to this day. It still makes money (before Switch made it free on their service) so there is no need to remake it. it's considered one of the best games of all time and still looks and feels great to play.
If they decided to remake it with more content and kept certain things alive (like short charge speed booster, mockball and the wall jump system) then fuck yeah remake it.
Rom Hack called: Super Metroid: GBA Edition. That's the closest you'll get.
Nintendo is so embarrassed that fans can make a better game than they can, that a lawsuit happened. Sad that Nintendo is losing it because of holding on to the pass than seeing what fans want.

I downloaded this before Nintendo got to it, I liked it but the ending was bugged. Ending loading zone failed and I fell under the floor. Oops.

I just watched the endboss of the original Metroid 2 and I have to say... this one here is allot worse. It starts at 2:06 ... until 7:46. That's like a good 5 minutes doing the SAME THING over and over and... over. Three full times you need to shoot the mouth, the projectiles it spits and then go to the next spot.
So... BORING. If at each of the three steps the the boss would be doing SOMETHING ELSE... but nope. three times the same thing.
This looks just as lame as the new Metroid 5.

Fuck out of here, I thoroughly played all three Metroid II games and Samus Returns might just be the worst of the three. It was solid but the way they ruined the ending was baffling.
