Wow this video is a late bloomer I guess lol. But hey, I super appreciate you watching this!!
A few notes since so many of the comments are asking the same questions:
-I don’t know why I didn’t mention the Spazer Beam combo either sorry. I said all the beams have combos, but only showed three of them. We'll call it an oversight while editing the script.
-If you're asking "why didn't you include [blank technique] in the video?" the video itself and description state "here's some of the techniques" and "here's three techniques". At no point do I claim that these are *all* of the game's hidden moves, just a few for people to get started with if they're just getting into the game.
-I mentioned that a lot of these moves aren't superbly useful or some of them being outclassed by normal item pickups. Many people have corrected me saying these can be quite useful during speedruns or randomizers. That's fair, but when I said that I was really talking about during a normal, casual play through of the game.
-I absolutely should not have said the game is “free” since it’s really locked behind a subscription. That was just a poor choice of words. My b. Sorry.
-Sorry that the sound of my voice upsets some of you. You'll just have to deal with that.
Thanks again for watching folks! I appreciate it.
@Muni_zklzpro it’s one of my favourite games of all time. I really hope you’re enjoying it!
@@CaptBurgersonAwesome video, but a liiitle incomplete. The techniques aren't mandatory casually but speedrunwise, they sometimes are not an option, but a necessity. The wave beam charge combo, known in the community as X-Factor, is the best way to quickly deal with bosses, but its really hard to aim right. Well-timed crystal flashes make it possible to do reverse boss order. Still, very entertaining video
I did want to mention there is a point right at the end of the game where the Crystal Flash is appropriate to use. Without giving away spoilers, it is where you are drained of all your health and then left that way. You do have to manually use your reserve tanks in order to do that, as they are not drained automatically in that scene
Though it is still useless, as there is a place to recharge your energy right after that, but it is still fun
Your voice upsets people? Shameful to write something like that. :D
I consider your voice and clear pronunciations comfortable. Otherwise, I wouldn't have kept watching all the dungeon analyses.
I know it's subjective, just wanted to give the "narrator" some positive feedback.
It's important to note that when doing the crystal flash, you must have at least 10 missiles, 10 super missiles, are 11 power bombs.
11 power bombs so you can lay one and stay on 10 or 11 after laying the first bomb? If the latter, it mildly bothers me lol
@@relinquiem
11 so you can stay on 10. Have to lay that first sacrificial one down first.
@@Zexidous I always wondered if there was a way to avoid spending that 1 extra bomb.
I have no idea why I did everything he said and still the crystal flash didn’t work I held on the buttons and tried to press the buttons at different times and still it didn’t work. I was using the switch. So maybe it was a problem with that I give up on trying to do the stupid crystal flash other ones worked but not the crystal flash and I don’t get why
@@goob6355Another thing that isn’t mentioned when doing the crystal flash is that you must have less than 50 energy to do it. This means nothing in your reserve tank, no extra e-tanks and below 50 health. And it does work on the switch version I have tested.
I'm surprised that you didn't mention the Spread bomb. Charge up your beam and go into morphball with a full charge. It's useless but cool to do.
0:40
@Espartanica That's not the spread ball. The spread ball spreads alot of bombs around you.
That's completely different from a HEALING TECHNIQUE!
@@yorelyoung6407So that clip of Samus spreading out bombs around her is a healing technique? Did you watch from the timestamp or just look at the exact second I marked?
@@Espartanica the time stamp shows her in an energy field, being healed.
Oh wait. You meant 0:42.
Great video! You forgot the spazer charge beam combo which makes sparks circle around Samus and then rain down. I think you’re right the wave beam combo is most versatile. Crystal Flash is really cool but I feel like it’s rare you would be less than 50 health AND in a safe spot to use the technique.
I'm curious as to what would happen if you do it with enemies around you? I've only done it in safe places and can't imagine monsters being able to interrupt it anyway, but I'd love to try it out.
@@Lordcamilli Samus has no s during a Crystal Flash, so she'll take damage for every frame an enemy is in contact with her. It's very possible that you'll die instantly that way, so they can be very risky to pull off.
Some important notes I'd like to point out:
- Samus has no IFrames during a Crystal Flash. If an enemy walks into you, you'll take an absurd amount of damage, and the healing most likely won't be able to make up for it.
- I always struggled with horizontal Shine Sparks as a kid, so if you're struggling, try this: If you hold A instead of tapping it, Samus will hover in the air for a brief moment before launching. If you press forward during this time, Samus will launch forward. This is also helpful for trying to initiate Sparks in mid-air, which you can do by pressing R during a spin jump (though you have to let go of it before you try to spark)
That's how I learned to do it too. It's so satisfying when you finally get something and it's by a different/uncommon method
I remember learning how to shine spark as a kid and I thought I had gotten myself stuck. No instructions just a bird jumping super high over and over. Put 2 and 2 together and shine sparked out that hole and I nearly orgasmed. Easily one of my favorite gaming memories
Thank you for sharing your anecdote regarding this amazing game. ❤
That... Could've probably been worded diferently, but it's a good way to put it
Wall jump had me feeling this way when the snes mini came out lol
@@skulisoul please explain
@@Commander-peepers "...Nearly orgasmed..."
So cool that the heal is possible. I tried as a kid so many things trying to do this move. Never knew though whether it was even possible but the cinematic tease had me obsessed
Same. I never knew you had to be below 50 health with no reserve energy in order to pull this off.
While it's not an advanced technique, an often overlooked one is the Moonwalk option in the settings. It allows you to walk backwards while shooting. There aren't a whole lot of situations where that even comes in handy, let alone is necessary, but it's fun to try.
When shinesparking horizontally, make sure you HOLD A, and then immediately hold left or right. Pressing the direction first results in a somersault, while letting go of A before pressing the direction just results in an upwards shinespark.
I was today years old when I found out about those charge beams tricks. This game came out 30 years ago and I'm just now finding out about them.
@@bigfatiori Same!
I believe the game only starts showing this stuff after you've completed the game, I could be wrong but that's when I started seeing the demonstration past the title screen.
All I know though was as a dam kid seeing em done with no explanation crushed me😅
Very cool. After I beat dread I decided to go back and replay all the 2D Metroid games saving this one for last since it was my very first Metroid game. I knew about shinesparking but never knew these combos existed. Can’t wait to dive back into this after like 25 years lol.
How did I not know about the charge beam combos until now? It's only been 30 years!
After all these years, I’m embarrassed to say I’ve been using the dpad to diagonally shinespark and didn’t know R works. God dammit.
Wow !! As if Samus wasn't already overpowered, I didn't know she had ludicrous mode too !! This is so cool l
Once you get the rotating ice or wave shots on the screen, you can go back into Samus' weapons, reactivate them, and those beams will be part of the shots on screen as well.
Awesome tutorial on one of my favorite games of all time. I still have the Super Metroid cartridge and SNES console and both still works after all these years. Might be a collector's item or worth money one day. Thanks for sharing!
It's worth a shit ton of money already today
You can do a Charge Power Bomb shot with the Spazer Lazer, it's a vertical room clearing move and it is shown in the demo...kinda surprised you didn't cover that one
I remember watching those special techniques during the demo/intro of the game and wondering how to do them (and also what they did exactly), but never figured it out. Thanks for sharing!
Wow, 30 years and I didn't know these. Thanks!
Cant wait to try these out! Finished Super a couple years ago, but never 100% completed it. The shinespark details eill help greatly
When the game came out there was an accompanying comic that referenced the “spirit bomb” thing to recharge health. I pulled it off once by mashing buttons. Never knew how to actually do it until til now.
Excellent video, great production quality and straight to the point. 10/10
The Wave Charge ability is called "X Factor" by the fandom and speedrunners like to use it for scoring quick kills on later bosses like Botwoon, Phantoon, and I think Ridley.
I remember her using Crystal Flash in the comic that ran in Nintendo Power at the time.
I never knew about the healing move 😯 This is a game changer. I can play without worrying about health 😄
I had no idea how to do any of these. Incredible video!
Feels weird to have known this for 30 years.
I’ve been playing this game since the SNES days and I never knew the shine spark could be aimed diagonally. Nice share!
For people who play on emulator: It works with bsnes hd beta 10.6, but not with ZSNES 1.51. This is probably because ZSNES can't read four inputs at once. I just tried it and put L and R on the same button as X and suddenly it works.
Since when?
zsnes is outdated anyways. you can be susceptible to bad links through the app. Better to use snes9x. If you use a front-end like Retroarch, it uses "cores," which are like emulators that work as plug-ins, and you can use the snes9x core for snes games.
Thanks for the video! I truly gotta get my hands on a good copy of this game again, my childhood copy was lost to time 😞 I own every Metroid game physically except for super ironically. I know I can play super elsewhere but I’d love the authentic feel of playing the original
I was 13-14 when this came out, mind blown. There wasn’t a Game Guide or anything to show you how to do these. Always wondered smh
I’m 40 now. Nostalgia
The official guide by Nintendo actually covered all of these, but it was only in print for the initial release
Crystal flash can be useful on challange runs/speed run categories like reverse boss order. It can help you get through norfair without the varia suit.
I'm sure someone has pointed this out already, but iirc after you trigger a charge beam combo you can change your equipped beam and the already-released projectiles will change to match that beam output. So release an ice beam bomb and switch to plasma for a more effective shield, for example.
0:42 - oh, that's a nice move, let's see how OP will explain how to do that
end of the video - never mind...
You just go into morph ball while you have a charge shot lol
Seen the crystal flash but didn't know what it was called or how to do it and I did NOT know you can shinespark at an angle! WTF! This game was SO far ahead of its time.
Charge Beam by itself (w/o any other beam selected) let you charge it until you glowed, then jump and act as a low-grade Screw Attack. This was useful if you had to jump up or down to platforms where some enemy was camping out, but you couldn't shoot them. You could play the whole game without it, but it was yet another interesting move.
Mmmhm, it's particularly useful in the early game
I need to try these for sure thanks 😊
I didn't knew about the diagonal shine spark jump.😮
Last time I played I couldn’t remember how to do the charge beam tricks. I knew they existed. I experimented with them when I was a kid. But I didn’t remember how they worked.
Most of the time I see or hear about people using Crystal Flash it's in a randomizer race, where they are trying to go as fast as they can.
Don't say something is free if I need a subscription to access it, that's not free
You know what's nice? CONTEXT.
Chained bomb jumps. Pretty hard to pull off compared to later games, but can let you sequence-break some areas.
I'm suprised not many people knew how to use the "shields" on Super Metroid, it was something I knew for like 20 years lol.
As someone who loves metroud but is super terrible at it, I WISH I had known about the healing ability
Well explained, thx.
Omg these were so cool using the first time omggg
i knew these just didnt know how to do them thanks bro
Walljumping in SM has always eluded me, which makes doing randomizers extremely difficult.
I struggled with learning how to walljump properly once I figured out it could be done. The problem I had was that I was always trying to press jump and the direction I wanted to go at the same time. It doesn't really work this way. If you spin jump into a wall and then just let her fall down, slightly tap the other direction and you will see her plant her feet on the wall. The direction is what preps her to do a walljump. Then you press A immediately after the direction and she will kick off. The window of time is VERY small. Just learn to slightly delay the A button press after the direction press and you'll figure it out.
Crystal flash could help in hell runs
ive seen it on weird order speedruns, hot norfair with no suit upgrades. i remember thinking, there's no way they can make it back. i was proven wrong.
Nice video! Im playing super metroid for the first time, and im so amazed... but these tricks are amazing!. I'm a little stucked with the space jump (i dont know how it works exactly, sometimes Samus mid-airjumps and sometimes she dont). I will practice these instead.
Happy new your! Thanks for the video!
There’s definitely a rhythm to get space jump working properly, it takes practice! You’ll get it! Cheers
I've had issues with this in the past as well and I'm pretty sure it has to do with how you do your jump. If you simply press A she will jump straight up and will not spin. If you press A and then press a direction she will also jump without spinning and move in that direction. The Space Jump cannot be used while she is jumping like this. You must press A while holding a direction for her to spin while jumping and this is the only way for Space Jump to activate. It can be frustrating, but you eventually get used to it.
Crystal Flash is a new one for me.
Only used that recharge thing cause GamePro said i could. Lol. And I learned to bomb jump cause I wasn't able to wall jump. I remember bomb jumping all the way up to that entrance on the left on the surface.
Awesome
You can also do a morphball spark .
Please do a tutorial of how to become better at walljumping. Also, how to hold on to the shinespark charge. There are some bits of Fusion and Zero Mission where I can’t get certain missile packs cos I don’t know how to hold/release/hold/release the charge.
All you do to hold your charge is crouch while speed boosting then to spark you gotta press jump and quickly pick a direction.
For advanced shinesparks you can store them on ramps, but only in fusion/zero not super.
Poor forgotten SPAZER beam😢
May it rest in speaze
I only ever used the crystal spark once in fusion to see if it was possible.
I honestly actually learned to wall jump on a snes emulator on my phone. Surprised me i got really good at it still can't mach ball at all though
I played this game when it was first released. I never discovered any of these. Back before internet everywhere you had to have a magazine subscription to Nintendo Power to get all the intel on features like this. Or a friend who did. Or trip over them by accident. If you had Forbidden Jutsu knowledge of a game you became a god on the playground for a few days. Now we can exist in a Schrodinger's box of knowing everything and nothing at the same time. I don't know if this was ultimately good or not.
I’ve been playing this series and especially this game way too long to not know the last 2 moves.
I unironically, totally already knew these techniques!!!!
I SWEAR I DID!!!!🤯
Great video, sir.
Sadly won't be able to attend tonight's stream, sir🤕
Great vid. I ❤ this game 🎮💯🎮💯
That's it for Dread and experiment n°Z-57 that guy should have dropped the function to Crystal Flash. Edit and why they removed those move in Fusion, Zero Mission, Samus Returns and Dread ?
Why did you not cover the charge and spazer beam? It has a combo too. Video feels incomplete.
Man I could barely hear your commentary over the MUSICS PLEASE tell where I can hear these reimagined versions of the old music that's in this video, the best redux's I've ever heard....and that's alot
Oh these are all from the actual game OSTs. Some from Super Metroid directly, a few are from Samus Returns.
Charge beam with ice.. go to start screen and swap beams for glitchy effects.. youre welcome!
Samus becomes alot more powerfull with those beam combos
Muito top!!
Is not difficult to find a video on the tricks found in this game. I have one of those in my favorites from over 10+ years ago! 😊
You missed the Spazer Power Combo.
Damn I had 10 health left in Norfair omw to Ridley and the crystal flash woulda actually been so useful
You can farm infinite health from the enemies that spawn in those rooms if that helps
Is there a reason you didn't include the spazer charge?
Mmm maybe murderbeam tutorial...?
I'm a little sad that you didn't show off the Spazer beam combo
I didn’t mention it directly I guess but I figured it was covered when I said that all the beams had combos lol
Crystal flash doesn't work for me, may need some kind of suit/armor for it to work
You do need morph ball, power bombs, missiles, and super missiles for it to work.
you need 10 of both missles and 10 powerbombs
11 power bombs are necessary along with 10 of each missile
Remember:
Less than 50 health
At least 10 Missiles
At least 10 Super Missiles
And at least 11 Super Bombs
11 PB is because we place one for the CF correct? Also, reserves need to be empty?
Why aren't more of these in more games?
Why skip the Spazer combo?
I don't know for sure, but maybe he never tried that one?
Best game ever
How speedruners can charge de speed boost in a short room with no space to run?
Metroid speed runners are just built different
All that learning to code paying off lol
Or bomb climb
Did you skip the Spazer Charge combo? If so, I don't really blame you, that one was kind of bad.
I didn’t mention it directly I guess but I figured it was covered when I said that all the beams had combos lol
@@CaptBurgerson True, but there's only 4 combos so not covering them all is a little silly to my mind.
@@jonothanthrace1530 yeah in hindsight maybe I should have
0:41 He says these moves aren't mandatory and are outclassed by some other items and equipment later. However if you play randomizer the beam combos are actually quite useful. I had a seed recently where I had to enter a room with two giant sidehoppers without any upgraded suits, and no E-tanks. I used the beam combo since I had power bombs, plasma beam, and charge beam. It was able to wipe out the sidehoppers without me getting killed since they would have easily taken me out in 1-2 hits, losing some progress. Crystal Flash is a rare one to need, but can be useful in a pinch. And I'm certain that assessment didn't apply directional shinespark which is frequently used by speedrunners and randomizer racers.
I wasn’t really taking randomizers into account when I said that, just thinking of the original game. And definitely shinesparking is always useful haha, you’re right about that
Super zelda and super metroid had super dash movez.... somethjng new games need to bring back in all genres
I was really pleased when Dread brought back the speedbooster and shinesparking
@@CaptBurgerson i felt dread was a little lacking tho, as like overall size but maybe i missed half of it or something
@@CaptBurgerson i was too busy shinesparking everywhere 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I think I have wrong copy of my game cuz this tricks don't work. Even charge combos.
where's mockball ?
Mock ball is technically a glitch exploit. The techniques I included here are all “secret” moves but not glitches.
You do this great vid, but then completely skip over one of FOUR beams for the beam combo and just ruin it. Did you do this? Are these someone else's clips? Couldn't find or create footage of it? What happened here?
I don’t know what happened either
underrated game
i don't think you know what underrated means💀
Your intro is so damn long, bro.
Yeah I don’t use that intro anymore. This is an old video
you forget a murder beam
The murder beam is a glitch. These techniques are not glitches.
@@CaptBurgerson oh ok
That’s a Lie
What's a lie exactly?
All of these secrets are well documented tbh, so I can promise you that there is no lie here.
@@CaptBurgerson I am late but I think he means the crystal flash due to either him remapping his buttons or the SNES on switch version. (I haven't tested if it works on switch but that's why I'm here on this epic video again.
@@sanspewpew I actually recorded my footage on Switch, just for ease, so it does work!
but I said at the beginning about the button mapping, so if that is the case they weren’t paying attention I guess haha.
Thanks for watching the video! Hope you found it helpful!
@@CaptBurgerson I actually did it right after the video it's pretty cool but I don't see myself just healing mid battle against ridley.
It's like "Hold up bro let me heal real quick you just stand around k?"
I came to learn to do wall jump and he skips explaining it
Sorry!
@@CaptBurgerson ))) everything's cool!
How is the free when you have to pay for the service? You can't play the game without paying a monthly fee. Also, I found a bunch of videos showing how to do this and some of them are all way older than this, by a decade. But better late than never right?🤦
Saying “free” was perhaps a poor choice of words on my part
Don't say "lovely people." You're not British.
LOL are you serious? 😂😂
I’m Canadian; it’s something a lot of people say around here.
Actually, my family IS of British descent anyways so like… what are we even trying to gatekeep here? And why?
@@CaptBurgerson Being Canadian is no excuse. Act like a man.
Great video! No mention of the short Shinespark? I'm playing Subversion 1.2 (should have called it Kuntroid), there's SO MANY unty things in this hack. The Shinespark seems to work when it wants to. Never had such a hard time Shinesparking. Idk if the dev has an upgrade in the game for super short Shinespark or they're just an obnoxious a hole, but some of the SS blocks are in areas where there's little to no room to run up to speed. It seems a LOT of youtubers cheat their way through a lot of these rom Hacks. Maybe the only way to play this one is with cheats? That's wack impo. I don't like using cheats. Anyone else out there play Subversion and have issues with Shinesparking?
