To the people disappointed that I didn't mention that Cerberus's greek name (Kerebos) meant "the spotted one," and therefore Hades named his dog "Spot" - it didn't pop up anywhere in my research and there's good reason for it: IT IS NOT TRUE. Article is linked, but in summary that theory came from a possible connection between Greek and Sanskrit in 1967 which has since been disproven. I'll admit that had I thought of it I absolutely would have discussed it, but solely for the purpose of debunking it. sententiaeantiquae.com/2018/08/11/no-internet-kerberos-is-probably-not-spot/

You missed the mention of Cerberus in Aeneid where we learn of its penchant for cakes. Also, The 2 pups theory can be linked to Vedic celestial hound Sarama who gave birth to a pair of brindle dogs called the Sarameya (lit. offspring of Sarama, also an archaic term for any dog as Sarama is the mother of all dogs) which were given to Yama, god of death/hell to guard the hell (underworld/patala and hell/naraka are two different place)

Bonus fact: in some translations of Ancient Greek to English, Cerberus translates to Spot. The guardian of the entrance to the underworld is named Spot. And he’s a very good boy.

You forgot what his name is translated into. Cerberus means spotted. So he is literally named Spot. Also I don't mind the rationalization of the myths.

Greek myths are as you say easy to explain but sometimes difficult for us humans to imagine. Im still thrilled and happy to be as part of your creations. Every week without fail you've always been there for me and all of us here. You've made a lot of rough nights a little less rough. Your fan Dan :)

i'll admit i enjoy your takes on "rationalizing" the myths... so i'd love to see a video that's JUST THAT, so that the people who don't want to see that can just not click on it... but the humor in a tongue-in-cheek "that's WAY more believable than a three-headed dog!" video that covered most of the "monsters" would be fun to watch...

Thank you Jon for bringing to your viewers the Greek and Roman legends. I read then when I was a pre-teen and loved them. So you have kept a satisfied viewer and THANK YOU. Although unable to be Patreon I do always hit the like button in the hope it eventually gives you some recognition for the work you do. As I now an old "dear" it is also most appreciated that you have sub-text so everyone can appreciate your videos. Again THANK YOU.

Congrats to you and your Patreon for this milestone! I'm so impressed at how you've grown the channel in the couple years I've followed and watched! I thought it was a big deal right up front when you said this vid was brought to us by your Patreon instead of a sponsor. Great work!
Also, I find the research into practical history around mythology quite fascinating and would love to hear more of that in your content.
