I ordered this airbrush today specifically to prime with Stynylrez (UMP), very happy to have found this video as it seems they are the perfect combo.
I have got mine this week, thanks for the review, it definitely helped me making up my mind! thanks a lot! cheers!
Just recently picked up PRN1 trigger type airbrush with a 3mm needle for base coats. Very happy with a trigger airbrush and just figuring it out. I was pushing to much air and going through paint fast. No matter what you choose, if your older like me a trigger airbrush a much better choice.
Just bought one Paul many thanks for the review mate its a great brush
I have the Procon Boy FWA with a 0.2 nozzle, it is a brilliant high quality airbrush.
Rumor has it they moved the Iwata instructions box away from the Mr Hobby instructions in the packaging department !! ;) looks to be a great airbrush for the money. Thanks Paul for anther great review !
been eyeing this one up for a while, just need to bite the bullet really , as for using the index finger, my misses always uses her index finger on me. even when i sprayed full size cars i always used my index finger as it makes the spray gun more controllable and comfortable to use
it looks like a great airbrush
I just got mine doday too!
What did you use to open the jar of paint - nice airbrush
I absolutely love my PS-290. Priming or varnish application is a doddle with it and the finish is just perfect. Any chance of PS-770 review?
Bought a PS-770 a couple of weeks ago. it is versatile, reliably does thin lines on demand, handles beautifully. Already got a PS-290 which is awesome for primers and undercoats.
Do you see this as a better option than an RG-3 for most modellers? I'm just wondering if I should sell my RG-3 and get one of these or is there an argument to have both?
I have a Hseng HS-AS186 Air Compressor With a tank which says that it provides 23 L/min. It is just a generic style compressor do you think it would be adequate?
How do you think it would do with 1/100-1/60 scale Gundam models? Im in the market for a trigger job and that fan cover is very appealing.
I just bought this airbrush (and the handle) about 1/2 an hour ago. Had my eye on it for quite some time. Mr. Hobby told me in an email that it will be powered sufficiently by their L7 tankless compressor (which is what I own.) so I really hope it works ok!
Thanks for watching - Paul :)
Jay, how did that L7 compressor work out for you? I’d be interested to know how the brush handles a 7L/min with 22psi max pressure compressor. Cheers
@@jamesbgreat I haven’t had the chance to use it yet. But Mr Hobby has said to me via email... “14.5 PSI is enough pressure for PS290 to function properly if you are airbrushing Mr. COLOR. You may need to spray at a higher pressure if you are spraying thicker paint.” & “The spec of our airbrush may be different to other manufacturer’s airbrush.
0.009-0.1 MPa is enough for PS290 to function properly if you are airbrushing thinned paints.”
The difference between the round and fan patterns is noticeable and I've found I only use the fan. You can whack on a primer or a base colour onto a 1/32 model aircraft in a couple of minutes with the PS 290. I love it. I use a SparMax air compressor rated at 0.81 CFM but that's at 60 PSI so at 20-25 PSI it will cope with the volume no sweat.
Is it better than an Iwata?
btw, great review
Iwata instructions? maybe confirming the factory link then
That brush looks very similar to a Grex TG airbrush! the body is just about exact as a Grex...
Cheers mate, thanks for watching sorry about the late reply - Paul :
Looks great Paul, but only really for the larger areas as you said. The quality is superb and it's just amazing how quickly it primes the F16 in your video. Looking forward to more videos soon and the next Live Show too. Have fun mate,
Joe
round cap for wet coats.
I have to put that on the wish list. wife will kill me if I buy that right now LOL
Hi Paul,
I just got mine and was wondering if you could help me figure something out. With the paint cup removed, I noticed that my ps290 has a strange "gap" in the back side of the paint channel (a few mm above the hole where the needle retracts into the airbrush body). I have a few other airbrushes (a H&S evolution and an Iwata NEO) and neither have anything resembling that. I initially thought that it might be a defect, but that gap seems to be quite symmetrical and has well-defined edges, so I was wondering if you know if that's something that's supposed to be there and if your model has it as well.
Thanks for your help and for your videos, I have been enjoying watching your builds!
I no longer own this airbrush so can’t help sorry buddy. I doubt it will be a defect. If in doubt contact where you bought it from
It's an Iwata...
Hello! I’m trying to figure out how badly my compressor is going to struggle with this gun. Just curious if the recommendation you mention of 35L/min is at a certain set pressure? For example, the grex tritium .5 fan cap requires less L/min as the pressure is lowered. I’m curious if the PS290 has a 35L/min @ such and such pressure listed on the box or instructions. There is literally bugger all on this anywhere. Cheers mate.
Mine coped ok with it
strange, around the 5min mark you say "no double action on this" then go on to describe how you can get airflow if you only pull back the trigger a little and later in the video more paint does come out if you pull the trigger all the way, so the brush IS decidedly double action lol.
This airbrush for me uses up a lot of paint. Is that the case for you as well?
Thanks
Yes its a large needle and that was this type of brush is designed for, thanks for watching or commenting - Paul :)
Will a bigger Iwata cup fit this airbrush?
`im not sure sorry
Would this fit in a standard airbrush holder? The one where you insert the brush into a tube thing
I don’t think so no
@@InternationalScaleModeller oh hey thanks for replying, for cleaning do you find this particular airbrush more difficult to clean over the pen holding style types?
And also do you find a massive difference in spray quality over a cheaper airbrush vs a more expensive one like this one?
These are more difficult to clean than a gravity airbrush. And you will find the better the quality airbrush the better it atomises the paint. Which should give you a better finish.
looks like it is IWATA, as the instructions reference the IWATA site...
Whitelabelled product rebadged by GSI Creos. Made in the same factory and many parts interchangeable.
so you need some serious compressor power to run this, which most people dont
But some people do so this is for those people :)
hi i want to get into airbrushing but dont have the money to anything expensive is there anywhere that do cheap compressors and airbrushes? thanks
Bob Bennett harbor freight!!!
Harbor freight!!!
@@viciousndallas I been using my Harbor Freight for 2 years with my Grex TG3 spray booth round and fan spray
This is an old video but still relevant. The constant pushing of UMP products does get rather tedious. Why not have a banner at the beginning and end of the vid. instead simply noting UMP products used in the making of this production unless otherwise stated? Simples.
Or simply don’t watch :)
