  • We take a trip down Denmark Street in London to catch up with the one and only Doug from The Doug & Pat Show to try out an original 1958 Gibson Les Paul with our RevivalDRIVE pedal!
We introduced Doug to the Origin Effects RevivalDRIVE and we were later joined by Matt Gleeson from Monty's Guitars to discuss PAFs.

Wow. This is next level of tone obsession. I bought my custom RD as soon as it became available in my city. Today I ordered a second (regular RD)! Got tired of moving my most prized pedal from my home rig to ampless board and back everyday!

Found an amazing deal on the Revival Drive Custom ($350), so grabbed it! But, does it do low gain, slow hand blues sounds? Like a blooming low gain drive with articulation.

I had a '57 Les Paul Junior that loved B and a '62 Les Paul Junior that loved G. I miss 'em

It's interesting, isn't it? Many Strats seem to love Eb as Mr Hendrix proved.

In fairness I suspect he did it for his voice as much as anything. Also I think in the R'n'B world he came from it might have been easier for playing along with keys and horns and so forth. I don't really know enough theory to back any of this up but it's all grist to the chit-chat mill.
ps - I remember buyng Hendrix sheet music in 1968 when I was starting out and nobody knew about the tuning down thing so everything was written out in Eb or G# or whatever (presumably by a session player paid by the hour) with power chord diagrams above the bar lines. It was all very un-revealing and unhelpful...Hahahahaha
pps - great compressor by the way.

@@PaulMcCaffreyfmac Thanks! I'm sure that you're correct in why Hendrix chose to detune - regardless, Eb does sound better for a lot of guitars.

It's weird how some tunings 'feel' more right than others even if the listener doesn't have perfect pitch. I can only imagine it must be something to do with the absolute frequencies that exist in nature already.... Having said that, Eb tuning must sound weird to folk who DO have perfect pitch or maybe it is all, literally, relative.
ps - I've just realised how patronising "great compressor by the way" might sound. I do apologise for that. I have had the chance to play a friends' and I meant it most sincerely :-)
