Marc & Dave, thanks for bringing the best guests and allowing us to go on these crazy train rides with you! I really enjoy hearing all the stories and learning! Ricks video on the snare drum signal comparison with analog tape vs digital is mind blowing. We all talk about it but seeing the proof on screen is amazing. Just pull out old analog tracks, even for me on a 1/2 in Tascam 38. On a 2 inch with more space it’s pretty dramatic. As usual technology gets shoved down our throats. Ok, enough rant, great channel guys!

    I am a left handed guitarist and play right handed. I didn't really give it much thought when I started, but later had the same exact thought as Dave on that. When I picked up the guitar, I naturally gravitated towards fretting with my left hand. I didn't know which way up it was supposed to be, I just did it. Maybe it was luck lol

    Just discovered this show a month or two ago, one of my favorites btw, and trying to play catch up as well as catch the new ones. At the section about “who buys cds anymore?” I’ve got to say that some do. The problem the band I’m in now has with that is that most people want vinyl. CDs sell alright, digital streams about the same, but most want to wait for vinyl, which we can’t really afford to do anymore due to the cost of it compared with other formats. I was in Europe a few years ago working the merch table for another band and it was the same. If it wasn’t available on vinyl they might buy a t-shirt instead or hesitantly but the cd. But they wanted the vinyl copy.

    Regarding modeling....I have a Kemper and love it. I agree with what Rick has to say except he is forgetting that many of us are in bands that play primarily very small bars and clubs. I would love to have a half stack but it is not practical for these types of venues. It is just way too loud. Even with a 2x12 my sound man and the whole band struggled with stage volume. Now, I run my Kemper to FOH and have a powered monitor so that I still have some onstage guitar volume. We go home each night able to hear and the FOH sound is incredible. Kemper has it's place.

    • @jmantheman5595
      @jmantheman5595 4 года назад +1

      I agree kempers and modelers have thier place .I have been asked by soundman at big casino shows and outdoor to not use a cab and go direct. To me it never sounds as good and it means a ton of tweaking to try to get a tone in on in ears that's even close to a real amp...
      But I've used the Kemper when I had to and it seems to be the way venues are going wanting quiet stages and no floor monitor wedges. Soundman now give you that look like ugh , when you try to use even a 2x12 ..

    One thought I had to purge...the fanfare (and rightly so) for the BE-100 Deluxe seems to have “overshadowed” the BE-50 Deluxe a bit. Now, I’ll admit I own and gig the BE-50 Deluxe and so may be biased but, that amp is just STELLAR...think Rick ought to consider it as well.😎👍🏼

  • @ravenhawk8758
    @ravenhawk8758 5 лет назад +6

    The problem is not that lyricist, can not write creatively anymore. Not exclusively, anyway. You also need to take in to consideration that, people no longer take the time to just listen to a song, and understand it. As life gets more technical and complicated, the simplest of messages become the hardest to hear.

    2:12:17 If the only instrument in the world was guitar, why not. So, not recommended for that reason alone. Piano, bowed instruments, woodwinds, it would be hard to transition over to them.

    2:00:00 I do believe I heard in another podcast that human being creativity peaks between 15 and 25 y/o (and also matches the peak in aggressive behaviors and unbalanced moods). I’m paraphrasing here because I can’t find from which podcasts I heard it, but I do remember it was a psychological study regarding human behaviors;
    I remember it very well because it made me think about the fact it was the age I did created a lot of “new songs”. I always put that on the lack of knowledge, from knowing how to play an instrument, or how to produce a song, or even to listen many other artists, when I was younger, I wasn’t excelling on any of those domains; so maybe I was not “limited” by those either; while now, when I compose a new song, I immediately think about another song that use similar chord progression, or song structure, or tones, mix tricks, etc... and I probably unconsciously try to conform myself to those “standards”. So maybe, ignorance is blissed for creativity; (that’s what I’m telling to myself to avoid as much as possible music theory; therefore when I do mistakes, I just pretend to “explore” new horizons)

    I wouldn’t say there’s a shortage of strong lyricists today. I would say there’s a dearth of a such lyricism, though, on Top 40 radio whereas in the ‘60s and ‘70s (and even in the ‘80s and ‘90s) there was a far greater variety of genres and artists in such stations.
