- Since making this video, I think I figured it out! The original 2 blade propeller was extremely out of balance. I balanced it and hope that the mid range vibration goes away.
I apologize for the crappy camera work while under way. There were a lot of boat wakes that day. Oh, and I forgot to mention. I had a little passenger on the engine. Can you find it? - Авто/Мото
what a sweet little motor, its so clean ide have it stood in my living room,
thanks for sharing this with us ive never seen one in that color scheme, really pretty.
Thanks for watching!
Got to love the Honda people…they build quality motors from Jets to boats, cars to generators. 👍👍
Consistently solid products, no doubt.
I have an early 80s version of the Honda 7.5, doesn't look like they changed it much in over a decade. Still runs.
I understand that they did some revisions, but I don’t know what they are.
@@GearHeadJP probably cdi ignition and graphic changes on the cowl. Wish mine had the 1971 colours, they look epic.
Loved Your Video, KB
Much obliged.
Ive worked for Honda marine for a long time and the only one of these that ive ever seen was in the museum at Motegi. Very very cool!
Wow, good to know. I guess this engine is rarer than I originally thought.
That motor sounds really good. That water is pretty clean looking too. You really do have some cool motors Mr..
Thanks 👍
Performs better than I would have thought.
I was surprised too!
Fifty plus years old definitely puts it in the antiques category. I acquired a Johnson 20 of the same vintage and no mechanic will touch it
Those old 20 Johnson’s were great and will run forever if serviced properly.
Learn to fix and maintain it yourself, it’s a gat hobby to get into. For the omc motors, parts are still available.
I have the exact looking one. 1974 b75 bought the whole boat set up from him , he bought all new in 1974... runs perfect. 2nd pull start after sitting for a month. Mine blue and white.. have video on here somewhere of it.
Great engine right!
@GearHeadJP love it! Have the original manual, receipt, has original honda gas tank and tool kit with oil container for engine oil.. pretty cool I think!
It's BEAUTIFUL!!! I would have had to have it as well.
Right?!
That still looks good now
Doesn’t it though!?
Think that's an antique? I once had a 1946 JOHNSON 5 HP that I ran on Puget's Sound on a 10' Sorensen skiff. It had BRASS fittings and copper tubing from the fuel tank to the carb. It was American steel, ran well, and was basically bombproof. HOWEVER, since I ran it in salt water, to care for it, I had to flush it with fresh water for about 20 minutes.
They don't build them like that, anymore, but the Mercury four stroke, ( 5 HP ) that I own in the present, is a pretty good outboard in it's own right.
Different skiff and outboard, today.
I also ran two ELGIN, ( SEARS ) 3 HP long shaft outboards, that I picked up at a garage sale for $100.00 ,( this was in the 1970's ) on a lighter 10' OLYMPIC skiff on Lake Washington. True antiques, even then.
Nice story. I’ve got quit a few running outboards from the 20’s and 30’s, but they just aren’t as “useable” for me. They have their place in history and I still use them occasionally.
Love The Color
Me too!
Would love a peek under the hood!
I’ll see if I can make another video of this engine some time.
This is a 1971???? It looks so much newer than that. Honda was ahead of their time.
As far as I can figure…yes.
Is this a 2 stroke or four stroke? Sounds like a 2 stroke. I know Honda became all about four strokes at some point.
And to get 20mph out of a 7.5hp is Amazing!!!
What size aluminum boat? We’re you by yourself? Are you over 200lbs??? Makes a big difference for us larger folks.
Love to see the balance Prop video!!! In smooth water too!!!
4 stroke. 12’ boat. Alone at 190lbs
Ya, for a 4-stroke, it's crankin up the R's! I still have a Nissan single 5HP that can hit up to 18MPH on my light weight 12 foot aluminum fishing boat.
😲
Honda never made a two stroke outboard.
China is making Honda outboards now. Was skeptical, but unfortunately true. This is an awesome looking motor.
Thanks. I believe that move in production is only for their engines that are under 5hp.
no way that make anything over an 8hp in China. Absolute nonsense.
What propeller goes for this? Any idea?
Also gotta add this if you have work with these more, is this motor really same as 10hp? Only difference is camshaft?
It has a large diameter low pitch 2 blade propeller originally. I’m working on a 3 blader for it. As far as internal details, I don’t know. I think the 10 came out late 70’s early 80’s and was a different powerhead and they tuned it up or down for 7.5 or 9.9hp. I know the intake and carburetor are different for sure.
Hmm 2 blade really? So that is B75K1 ? Mine is K2 and i got 3 blades on mine.. 🤔 Just wonderin cos honda made both K1 and K2 71-77
Yes, I believe mine to be a K1. It had the original propeller on it, and I got it from the original owner.
How much do these rare motors cost? And are parts readily available?
Value depends on your location. The market for antique outboards is not very strong. For me it’s more about fixing them, using them, and appreciating them for their differences and function. You can typically pick up most brands for under $300. I was able to find original, new Honda service parts for this engine on eBay.
@@GearHeadJP
Right on👍
Thanks for your reply!
I recently picked up an 80s era for about 50 bucks. It had a small prop problem I had to fix, though.
Looks like new
It cleaned up nicely.
1981 is the model year honda was the first with a reliable 4stoke outboard engine the rest copied them
Earlier than that!
Nobody else noticed the frog?
You win the prize! That engine runs so smoothly that he was hanging on for the ride for quite a while.
Could have used this video a year ago
Oops. I only got this engine a month ago.
Boat resonance...
Yes, and I found out after this video that the propeller was VERY out of balance.
