  • Purchased this motor along with a bunch of parts for Elgin and West Bends to build another motor at Tomahawk 2023 from Tom Johnson. This one had a bad set of points. It probably still needs the timing addressed, but it is running decently now.

It does look pretty decent and it runs well, although not quite as smoothly as my other one. Thanks for watching!

Nothing wrong with a solid respectable 15mph. Runs out nice and smooth and idles down pretty well. Overall a nice little motor there!

This one does OK. I got very close to 17mph top speed with this and it was steadily over 15 so that's decent for a motor of this size. I believe there's room for improvement on the idle, but it's OK. Overall, I'm happy with it and glad to have it in my collection. Thanks for watching!

That thing runs pretty sweet as is. It's definitely worth fine tuning the timing. Keep in mind that a 16' boat is on the larger size of hull for 12hp. 12'-14' would be the sweet spot for that power. When I was growing up we had a 13' aluminum that was rated for 15hp. I do love the that late 50s/early 60s look of that design. Good save.

It is running pretty well, but I believe there is still a bit of room for improvement. One would think that a 16 foot boat would be on the large side for a 10-15hp motor, but this Alumacraft K is pretty consistently the same to maybe 1/2 mph faster than my 14 foot Alumacraft FD woth the same motor. The only downside is that the wind has a bigger effect on it than the shorter hull. I will have to run my other Elgin 12hp on this boat to get an exact comparison. It ran 19-20mph on my '73 Sea Nymph 14R before I sold that boat. Thanks for watching!

Thank you. I like these 12hp West Bend built motors. I'm still looking for an 18hp West Bend. Thanks for watching!

Hey Ben 👋 do you have a Mercury part number for the impeller on this? Or any part number for an impeller? Thanks Ben 😊

I do not know this part number. I may be able to find it given some time. Chrysleroutboarddude may get you what you're looking for. Thanks for watching!

Where can I find the flip down door on the carb adjustment for sale?

I would keep an eye on Ebay and maybe post a want ad in the classifieds on AOMCI.ORG. there may be someone in the club that has one kicking around that they can spare. All mine have a home. Thanks for watching!

It's not real fast, but it's decent for a 10/12hp motor. It still seems to run just a little rougher than it should but it isn't bad. I probably need to dial the timing in a little better. These points are a pain to adjust for fine tuning. Thanks for watching!
